Does Mail do newsgroups..?

If not then what do I use to read newsgroups on my Mac..? I used to use Thunderbird for EVERYthing on XP.

it would be nice to do ALL my mail in one mail client.
Newsgroups are not mail. Newsgroups are a completely different protocol, and work very differently. It's true that there are some applications that bundle multiple functions into one program. (I've never seen the advantage myself.) Mail concentrates on being a simple mail handler without becoming bloated with features that can be better handled by a dedicated application.

  • Mail and newsgroups account not set upcorrectly

When I want to e-mail an article and click SHARE and click send e-mail and then when I want to send message I get a SEND MESSAGE ERROR, SENDING OF MESSAGE FAILED.  PLEASE VERIFY THAT YOUR MAIL AND NEWSGROUPS ACCOUNT SETTINGS ARE CORRECT AND TRY AGAIN.  Where do I go to fix this.  I thought everything was set up correctly. (Thunderbird is the sending e-mail company).
    Thank you.

I am confused. There are two or three "sends" in your desctiption. The typical case is you are reading an article on a web page and click on the "share" icon. You are then prompted to enter the email address or addresses of your intended recipeint(s), plus your name and email address, after which you click on send or continue to actually transmit the email. If that is the case the only reason for obtaining your email account is to verify your ID to the web page. The resulting email is sent using an SMTP serrver associated with the web page where the article appears and has nothing to do with your email client, or your email account.
If you send a regular email, in other words you are not clicking on a share icon on a web page or in an email, creating a new email message from scratch and sending it, does everything work as it should? If so there is nothing wrong with your mail and newsgroups account setting. The problem is in the JavaScript or Java used on the web page where you clicked on share and there is nothing you can do to correct or change it other than contacting the webmasster for the site and telling her about the error.

  • When I send an email from Mac Mail, why does Mail go to the background and the Finder comes to the front? I want it to stay in Mail.

When I send an email from Mac Mail, why does Mail go to the background and the Finder comes to the front? I want it to stay in Mail.

Did you check your user name and password in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your email account, tap SMTP, then tap the primary server name.  Make sure the settings there are correct.

  • With an IMAP account, if "Store sent messages on the server" is checked does Mail only store mail on the server?

With an IMAP account, if "Store sent messages on the server" is checked (in Mailbox behaviors) does Mail only store sent mail on the server?
So should it not be checked if you want Mail to store sent mail on the server and the computer?
    Thank you.

    Hi Norm G,
Thanks for your comments and the link to further information.
With it checked you will get both on the server and the Mac.
I have it checked, yet when I pause the curser over Sent mailbox the tooltip says "Contents stored on server. Name on server: Sent Messages". Does this mean stored only on the server or also on the server?
    What does your tooltip say?
At the moment sent emails only appear in that Sent mailbox. If Mail also stores them on the Mac should they also appear in another Sent folder "On My Mac"?
    Thanks for your help.

  • N Mail, when using "reply all" why does Mail automatically include my email address in the cc line? Whey would I want to include my email address in an email I am sending.  Anybody have any idea how to stop this?

In Mail, when using "reply all" why does Mail automatically include my email address in the cc line? Whey would I want to include my email address in an email I am sending.? Anybody have any idea how to stop Mail from including my email address in the cc line when using "reply all"?

Automatically cc myself is not checked.  I did find out that if you have multiple email address that all of them need to be associated with "My Contact" tab.  Thanks

  • Why does mail stop working?

Why does mail stop working when it has worked fine for years?

OK, thank you.  I use apple for e-mail.  I have an @me address and I have long subscribed to mobile me, which has recently become icloud.  Yesterday the @me mail account appeared to stop recognizing my e-mail password for my primary mail account on my two imacs but not on my ipad.  The most recent e-mail I have received on my imacs is 7:16am yesterday, but I know from my ipad that I have received numerous e-mails since then.  I have other mail accounts, including one for the school where I teach.  I am receiving e-mail on the school account ok.
I made no changes to my password or otherwise for my primary mail account any time recently.  I also still have my @mac address.
Generally, I do not understand icloud.  I do not understand how to sync information across computers.
When I go to preferences in mail and I click and accounts and account information, I do not understand anything that I see there.  When I try to re-type my password, there seems to be no way to save it except to switch to another mail account.  I know from past experience that if I attempt to fix whatever might be wrong with mail I do not know what I am doing.
Any information would be helpful.  Thank you.

  • Does Mail automatically seek IMAP settings?

Does Mail automatically seek IMAP settings over POP?
I'm having ongoing probs with IMAP with Sky and it's Google inspired webmail and I have tried the POP settings but nothing happens, just get the ~ next to the account.
I have asked Sky why their POP settings dont work [waiting for a reply] but every time I have created a new account Mail seems to seek the IMAP options first.
If Mail does default to IMAP, is there a way that I can create a new account and me tell it which type of account to define?

Basically I want to do the reverse of what is discussed here.

  • Group mail alert - Does Mail have one

It seems many people in business have done this once. Sent a group e-mail out to 50 or 100 people by mistake.
Does Mail have an alert that could be turned on to warn you that you are about to send out a group e-mail (perhaps noting whether the addresses are visible or invisible)?
If not, does Apple have a suggestion box?

    Welcome to the discussions, alphajack7.
    No.

    I also found my to-do's for my imap account in /Users/<username>/Library/Calendars/(long letters-numbers name).imap/(long letters-numbers name).calendar/Events/(long letters-numbers name).ics.
In addition, I found to-do's created in iCal in /Users/<username>/Library/Calendars/(long letters-numbers name).calendar/Events/(long letters-numbers name).ics. Scroll through the files in the events folders, find the date created or due date of the to-do and double click it. It will take you to the to-do in iCal.
In general, the to-do's will be in the Events folder of the Calendar they were created in. The iMap to-do's add another layer to the file structure.

  • Does Mail have to be open to receive messages?

    Hey guys
Does Mail have to be running to check and get messages?
    Thanks

Depending on your mail service, there are frequently small utilities that can periodically check your mail server and give you a pop-up notice that there is new mail, and then you can launch Mail to look at it.
For example, Google's GMail can be check by several utilities, including Google's own "Google Notifier".
Try doing a search over at MacUpdate.com for mail checking utilities.

  • Does Mail work on 10.4.11?

I'm trying to setup Mail on an eMac (PPC) runing 10.4.11. The setup seemed to work fine. I could send a message TO this account, but I could not compose and send messages FROM the account. It's a MobileMe account. Does Mail still work on PPC Macs running 10.4.11?

Hi Richard, yes, Tiger's version of Mail is v2.1.3 & should work for many .me functions...
I have Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, can I still use MobileMe?
Most MobileMe features work with Tiger, but you must be running the latest version (currently version 10.4.11) and MobileMe features will still appear as .Mac. Some features, such as Back to My Mac, do require Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. For details about using Mail with MobileMe in Mac OS X 10.4.11, read Setting up MobileMe email on your Mac.

  • Why does mail keep creating a new junk mail folder?

Why does mail keep creating a new junk mail folder at the bottom of my folders. This is in addition to the standard junk mail folder.

    Hi Michael
    Welcome to the forum.
Do you have Stuffit installed and are saving to the desktop?
Because in that case it is Stuffit decompressing the Pages document's package.
Just save to your document folder.
