Does Mail handle junk mail across accounts?
Are all mailboxes affected when you mark a message as Junk, or does it maintain a database for each account under Mail?
I was referring to new incoming mail after marking one as junk. I have two work accounts and they both receive work announcements, though one of them in theory shouldn't be. The problem is having our not so tech savvy staff delete that account from the mass e-mail list. I was hoping I could mark anything from that list as junk in one box without having it be marked in another.

Mail Smart Folders across accounts / between Macs
OS X Mail Smart Folders are very useful, but I have one problem:
My "Unread" folder between accounts and Macs has two criteria: Unread, plus on one account, not in a certain Inbox. Now, the mail account that I use for that 2nd criteria is only set up for use on one account. I have 2 accounts on my Mac Pro and 1 account on my MBP. When I check my Mail Unread folder on the other account and other Mac, the Unread folder syncs across iCloud, but since that email account I use for the 2nd criteria is not set up (active) on the other account / Mac, the Unread folder essentially breaks. If I edit it, then it breaks on the other user account where that 2nd criteria is effective.
Does that make sense? Anyone else having iCloud Mail Smart Folder sync issues across accounts / Macs?
Running OS X Yosemite all up to date on everything.iCloud does not support or sync Smart Mailboxes or local folders. You can create mailboxes at the iCloud.com site that will be IMAP and show in the Mail sidebar under the iCloud folder. Those will show up on all devices.
Other than that, iCloud will only sync Mail's main mailboxes (default mailboxes).
In Addition to better explain:
Local folders under On My Mac are folders only located on the computer. They are not part of any IMAP or Exchange account.
Smart Mailboxes are for the most part just search engines. Messages are not stored in those, but they merely point to messages which actually reside in the original mailbox where they are stored. -
Hello,
Yesterday under sufference I moved across to I-Cloud from my Mobile me accounts.
I had a deadline of 30th June to merge my email accounts or they would of ceased.
In order to remain compatible I also bought the Lion OSX platfrom which was upgraded from Snow Leopard.
I have moved all my .mac and .me accounts across to I-Cloud and the Connection Doctor recognises them to allow email to be downloaded,
but its seems when the SMTP part of the loggin tries to connect its booted off the mail server.
Im know that I have probably not managed to merge across competely to I-Cloud successfully and wondered if any one can please tell me the
setting I need to change under the mail preference account profiles to ensure this will work correctly.
Thanks
DeniseHi Roger, Thanks for your suggestions. Do you think in fact that I could delete the SMTP part of the mailservers. It appears that they are dedundant as it now says it used Icloud only?
Thanks

With an IMAP account, if "Store sent messages on the server" is checked (in Mailbox behaviors) does Mail only store sent mail on the server?
So should it not be checked if you want Mail to store sent mail on the server and the computer?
Thank you.
iHopeHi Norm G,
Thanks for your comments and the link to further information.
With it checked you will get both on the server and the Mac.
I have it checked, yet when I pause the curser over Sent mailbox the tooltip says "Contents stored on server. Name on server: Sent Messages". Does this mean stored only on the server or also on the server?
What does your tooltip say?
At the moment sent emails only appear in that Sent mailbox. If Mail also stores them on the Mac should they also appear in another Sent folder "On My Mac"?
Thanks for your help.

Why does mail keep creating a new junk mail folder?
Why does mail keep creating a new junk mail folder at the bottom of my folders. This is in addition to the standard junk mail folder.
Hi Michael
Welcome to the forum.
Do you have Stuffit installed and are saving to the desktop?
Because in that case it is Stuffit decompressing the Pages document's package.
Just save to your document folder.

Maii does something called "accountverbindingen controleren" (checking account connections)
Activity window full text:
accountverbindingen controleren
verbinden met server 'smtp.<ISPname>.com'
(checking account connections
connecting to server 'smtp.<name>.com')
It seems to do this every time Mail encounters a glitch in the connection or when I did something in Preferences.
The result often seems to be that I get blocked on the common mail ports at my ISP for "spamming activity"
What does Mail actually do when it says this?
and how can I stop/prevent Mail doing this?Everything that is pre-installed on the iPad is free : http://www.apple.com/ipad/built-in-apps/
You can also download a copy of the iPad manual from here which has brief chapters on each of the built-in apps (plus iBooks which is a free download) : http://support.apple.com/manuals/ipad/
In terms of when you will be charged, then that will happen when you click on 'buy' on an item in the store (they are charged immediately). Some apps also allow you to make in-app purchases within them (though you can prevent them being possible by setting restrictions on the iPad via Settings > General > Restrictions : understanding restrictions). Some apps also allow you to take out auto-renewing subscriptions within them which are charged automatically each week/month/year until you cancel them e.g. newspaper and magazine apps.
Note that whenever you change the credit card details on your account you may see a temporary store holding charge on it, which should disappear within a few days - so if you've just created your account don't be surprised if you see a $1 'charge' on it for a few days -
Interesting db mail issue. If i click send test mail from sql mgmt studio, it works fine, but when i execute a SP to send a mail, it fails. One thing I noticed is that the "LastModified" column in the mail log shows the domain account when a test
mail was sent from mgmt studio, but show "sa" when the SP was used to send mail.
This is from SQL 2012, did not see this in sql 2008, looks like 2008 always used the service account. any ideas ?
Get this error:
The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 1 (2013-04-30T16:36:52). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Client does not
Thanks.
RangaHi Ranga,
I also use SQL Server 2012. I send a test email through SQL Server Management and the last modified By “sa”.
If you used stored procedure to send a test email. Please use the command below:
EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
@profile_name = 'Adventure Works Administrator',
@recipients = '[email protected]',
@body = 'The stored procedure finished successfully.',
@subject = 'Automated Success Message' ;
I can both send test email through SQL Server Management Studio and SP. Make sure you have the right profile. Since you could send test mail via SQL Server Management Studio, please try again to send it via SP.
Thanks.

My e-mail, exchange account, on iphone, displays an out of date signature. My Outlook displays the correct signature but this does not appear to have replicated to my iphone. The standard signature still says "sent from my iphone" which is fine but I need desperately to change the exchange signature as the office address is incorrect.
I have already tried that and this doesn't work. The signature is pulling incorrectly from exchange but I don't know how.

Why does Mail (OSX10.8) show my Yahoo account as "offline"
Why does Mail show my Yahoo account as offline? I have to use a different outgoing mail server as a result.
Hey there Mike,
It sounds like you are seeing in the Mail app that your Yahoo account is offline. Take a look at the following article to help you troubleshoot the issue:
Mail (Mountain Lion): If a mailbox is offline

Am I backscattering? and non mail user accounts having mail received.
10.6.4 Server fresh install on a new Mac Pro. I have configured our mail server using only Server Admin. Junk mail is set to be redirected to the junkmail account and not bounced.
FIRST ISSUE - am I backscattering? In looking at the logs I see what looks to me like attempts by our server to notify a presumably forged sender that their message was being turned down by our server. The log listing below for 1 message as an example uses the term bounced once each for the destined user (who is set NOT to receive mail in WGM) and our postmaster account.
I am seeing lists of delayed items in the mail queue in Server Admin > Mail > Maintenance > Mail Queue. All of those messages are going from the Mailer-daemon to the presumably forged FROM: address of items delivered to our junkmail account.
SECOND ISSUE : The requested user in this example does not exist as an email recipient on the server. Shouldn't the message be refused outright? These messages are being accepted by the server and Server Admin > Mail > Maintenance > Accounts keeps showing mail accounts for the user here and another user that are the server is not accepting mail for. If I delete the account in Server Admin window above, they return again within a day or so. Ideas?
Thanks for looking at this.

Why does mail stop working?
Why does mail stop working when it has worked fine for years?
OK, thank you. I use apple for e-mail. I have an @me address and I have long subscribed to mobile me, which has recently become icloud. Yesterday the @me mail account appeared to stop recognizing my e-mail password for my primary mail account on my two imacs but not on my ipad. The most recent e-mail I have received on my imacs is 7:16am yesterday, but I know from my ipad that I have received numerous e-mails since then. I have other mail accounts, including one for the school where I teach. I am receiving e-mail on the school account ok.
I made no changes to my password or otherwise for my primary mail account any time recently. I also still have my @mac address.
Generally, I do not understand icloud. I do not understand how to sync information across computers.
When I go to preferences in mail and I click and accounts and account information, I do not understand anything that I see there. When I try to re-type my password, there seems to be no way to save it except to switch to another mail account. I know from past experience that if I attempt to fix whatever might be wrong with mail I do not know what I am doing.
Any information would be helpful. Thank you. -
Synchronize Mail Across Two Computers
Hey everyone!
I have two iMacs running 10.5.7 with Apple Mail set to download email from my own domain with a POP server. I have a gigabytes of locally stored mail that I would like to have synchronized to another, iMac also running 10.5.7. I don't have the option of IMAP, but even if I did, the gigabytes of saved mail would go over my quota.
I tried using Live Mesh, but it does not support files in the /library directories, and MobileMe does not support IMAP/POP accounts.
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance!there is no good way to keep POP mail synced across two computers. one time syncing is possible by exporting a mail archive and moving it to another computer but it's not something you want to do on a regular basis. the best i can suggest is to check the option in mail preferences->accounts->advanced to keep messages on the server after retrieval. this way you can download them to both computers.

Emailing from iPhoto using Mail & .Mac account in a foreign country
Hi all.
I love the OSX integration of being able to just select some photos in
iPhoto and click the email button. Opens up Mail program and sends away.
It makes it very easy and simple for someone like my girlfriend who would rather not think about where things are stored and how to attach them.
I even made her get a .Mac account to simply things even more!
Great.... but......
Off she goes with the iBook to Thailand to do her wholesale shopping.
With a new digital camera, iBook, .Mac account and iLife 6 all packed too.
(plus a quick lesson in using iWeb to get photos to a web page).
So now she takes some photos, loads them into iPhoto, edits, crops,
makes them look pretty. All in the comfort of her own room. Then off
to the Internet Cafe she goes, pays for a wireless hookup (the iBooks got airport). Goes to iPhoto, selects the photos, clicks email. Mail opens and a
new message with the photos already attached opens. After typing a message and sending the message......an error gets returned saying unable to send message do to SMTP outgoing server.
Having ran into this issue at home already, I followed instructions I found on the apple site regarding changing the mail setting account info SMTP server port number. Well that worked for home and after trying to get her to change it via the numerous numbers suggested from the Support pages on apple. Could not get her to be able to send an email (even when selecting .mac as the selected outgoing mail server).
Any suggestions on how to get this to work.
I just went into the new web .Mac mail and while you can attach files.
There is no way to use the iPhoto program to do this or to just be able to drag and drop from iPhoto to .Mac webmail.
Trying to show her the pathway to find her photos in the Pictures folder is not really an option.
thanks
KerryHi Kerry
Some ISPs don't allow one to send email via another connection to prevent spammers using their servers for relaying junk.
I suggest that she use the webmail function of .Mac.
She could export the files to desktop, making sure that she adjusts the file size in the dialogue box so that the files are not too large, and then add to the email via the normal webmail interface.

When I send an email from Mac Mail, why does Mail go to the background and the Finder comes to the front? I want it to stay in Mail.
Did you check your user name and password in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your email account, tap SMTP, then tap the primary server name. Make sure the settings there are correct.
