Does Mail offer an Entourage 'Identies' function

I've been a loog time fan of Entourage but feel time has come to convert to Mail which I use at work but not at home. The problem is I have several different 'identities' setup within Entourage and want to retain the privacy of those accounts. I've experimented with Mail but there does not see to be a way around the problem of having all your emails regardless of whatever account visible. I know I can set up different users on my Mac but switching my whole system just to check emails is not an option. Is there a way around this problem even if it meant having 2 versions of Mail with different accounts. Many thanks

Set up your accounts.
When you open Mail if you hold down on the shift key Mail will open without selecting a folder.
No messages will be visible
Beside the Inbox you will see a disclosure triangle.
Click on it and it will reveal your individual inboxes for each account.
Select the "identity" you want to view and only its contents are visible.
Select another account "identity" to view its box and the other identities messages are not visible.
If you sometimes walk away from your desk and security is an issue, go to your System Preferences>Security and put a check in the box to "require password to wake up this computer..."
Then either select "sleep" from the apple menu when leaving your desk or set your energy saver settings or screen saver settings to kick in quickly if you are away.

  • Mail 2.1 / Entourage/ MS Exchange

I've searched all over the forums and Google but couldn't find the answer I needed.
My company uses Exchange and I successfully setup Entourage. Public folders work, email works, calendars works, etc. The only issue I have with it still is setting up the GAL/LDAP for the address book. I can't find that info in Outlook 2003 to copy to Entourage. If anyone know where I can find that I would greatly appreciate it.
My main question is regarding Mail 2.1 and Exchange. I have been unable to setup Mail with the Exchange server. Does Mail 2.1 use IMAP only or WebDav or MAPI? I'd love to just use Mail and get rid of Entourage. It never connects no matter what combination of settings from Entourage I copy into it.
Also, does anyone know what a GAL/LDAP server address would look like if I was trying to guess it to add into Address Book or Entourage? Is it typically something like "ldap.domain.com"?
Ideally, I'd love to use Address Book and Mail. Any ideas? Thanks!

I haven't used Exchange since v5.5, but at that time it offered standard ldap (port 389) services, as well as imap.
If your exchange server is running ldap you can connect to it via its normal dns name, the same name you entered to get your IMAP mail. So if your pop/imap server is mail.mymail.com, that is what you would enter into the ldap server field.
One thing you might need to get from your email admin is the "search base". If Address Book doesn't connect at first you could try entering cn=mymail.com where "mymail.com" is the right half of your email address.

The HP8610 does not offer the option to reverse print order. I downloaded the HP8600 driver and was able to do this. Will the driver for the HP8610 be updated to include this anytime soon?

I've found that the Music Search function has been crippled in recent months - it no longer dynamically updates the list on the right as you enter letters.

  • Does Mail work on 10.4.11?

I'm trying to setup Mail on an eMac (PPC) runing 10.4.11. The setup seemed to work fine. I could send a message TO this account, but I could not compose and send messages FROM the account. It's a MobileMe account. Does Mail still work on PPC Macs running 10.4.11?

Hi Richard, yes, Tiger's version of Mail is v2.1.3 & should work for many .me functions...
I have Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, can I still use MobileMe?
Most MobileMe features work with Tiger, but you must be running the latest version (currently version 10.4.11) and MobileMe features will still appear as .Mac. Some features, such as Back to My Mac, do require Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. For details about using Mail with MobileMe in Mac OS X 10.4.11, read Setting up MobileMe email on your Mac.

  • Where does mail store downloaded photos

Where does mail store downloaded photos?

If I understood you... you can export your entire iPhoto library to an external Hard Drive? I could only see import option...
You're welcome. Yes, that is correct. In iPhoto, File > Export... > Select external drive.
You said your drive has to be specially formatted - is that for if you want to export your photos to that drive? Or do you mean if you wanted the iPhoto library to be located primarily on the hard drive?
I meant the latter > specifically, your external drive would need to be formatted in this manner if you wanted your primary iPhoto library to reside on an external drive and function correctly. This format is the format of your MBP's internal drive.
Format the drive as FAT32 using disk utility to make the drive universally compatible between OSX/windows. Place the JPEG images on the drive. Transfer between machines with no problem.

I'M looking for a mobile app that can be used on a Chromebook or iPad that provides the PDF editing functions offered by Acrobat.  Does Adobe offer such a product?  If not, what do you recommend from the currently available apps.

    AFAIK, no.

  • Does Mail have a "History" button?

I remember when using Entourage, it had this History button you would click on to read the original email. Some poeple don't include the original email, and it's a real PITA looking in the Send folder for the original email.
Does Mail have something like the History button in Entourage?
    Thanks
    -Dean

    Hi Dean,
There is no history button, that I know of, but while in the Inbox, if you control-click on the Sent mailbox, the messages in the Inbox and Sent will be blended together, and will respond to sorting by Subject, or Thread. When Subject, Mail ignores the Re: in the Subject line, and organizes correctly. If organized by Thread, then View/Select/Previous Message in Thread should work.

  • Does Mail search use Spotlight?

In Apple Mail, the search functions work poorly for me. I can find things by the category "From," for example, but searching for something in the "Entire message" doesn't find things that are there.
Does Mail use Spotlight for its searches? I have disabled it because it slowed down my old iMac too much.

Yes, Mulder is right, Mail Uses Spotlight for the Entire Message search (but not the To, From or Subject).
I am also running on a flat panel G5 iMac and found that with a clean Spotlight Database, Spotlight really speeds up and makes searching in Mail invaluable.

Thanks Dave. I went to Betalogue and went through all the posts and I finally found a way to fix the Search Entire Message Spotlight problem in Apple Mail - at least it worked for me. I have been trying to fix this with all sorts of solutions for months and it turns out it was related to a problem with the Launch Services Database. I confirmed this by looking inside my user/library/mail folder and seeing that inside each Mailbox folder, the sub mailboxes all had standard folder icons and not the inbox tray style icons.
Note that you can easily fix this through Terminal Commands, and not all the following steps are completely necessary, but there are many people looking at these threads that want to just push buttons...
*== So here are my simple steps to fixing Apple Mail Search ==*
    1. Attach and turn on any external hard drives you have that may have a copy of Mail.app on them
    2. Delete all OLD copies of Mail.app that you can find (don't worry about Time Machine), but make sure you keep the latest version of Mail.app in your working Applications folder.
~ This is so that the LaunchServices database won't easily become corrupt again
    3. Install the latest version of Onyx - free to use and download from www.macupdate.com
~ I suggest Onyx, because some people don't want to mess with the Terminal.
    4. Quit all open applications and run Onyx (it will want to check your Hard Drive etc...that's OK).
    5. Go to the Maintenance pane and then the Rebuild tab and select only the LaunchServices box. Click Execute.
~ This should fix the primary problem with searches
    6. When that process finishes, select only the Mail's Envelope Index box. Click Execute.
~ This should fix related problems with other searches
    7. When that process finishes, select only the Spotlight Index box. Click Execute. (This process of Rebuilding your Spotlight Index could take hours depending on how big your hard drive is).
~ This will give you a clean fast Spotlight database that Mail uses for Entire Message searches.
    8. Quit Onyx
    9. Open Mail.app and test your Entire Message Search!
    ====
Hope that helps - it certainly, finally, did for me!
    Bryce.

  • Does Mail App has an offline feature like Google Mail?

I store all my emails on my IMAP .me.com account, but when I am offline I cannot access any emails. Does Mail App has an automatic sync option with locally stored mailboxes? Or is there an offline option such as Google Mail offers?
    Would appreciate any help.

I'm not sure what Google Mail offers, but in Mail Preferences, Accounts, (select the account) and click on Advanced, there is an option for how to store messages for offline viewing.
However, I have mine set not to keep any messages, but when offline, I still have the local copies of all the messages.

One thing I really like about using Firefox and such webmail as yahoo is that firefox allows the input of bullets, etc. I think even Entourage has this.

  • HT204053 Does the MobileMe iDisk continue to function in iCloud?

I like to use the iDisk to share files between my PowerMac and Macbook.  I can't tell from the iCloud web site whether or not iDisk will continue to function after MobileMe is cut off.  Will it?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately, iCloud does not offer equivalents to Mobile Me’s iDisk, Gallery or Web Hosting services. You will need to find a third party solution to replace these services. You might consider DropBox, SugarSync, MediaFire or any other service that offers online storage. (not all these alternatives offer all the services previously provided by iDisk)

  • Does DW offer coding for zoom capability?

At this address there's sophisticated zoom coding but it apparently only applies to wordpress documents (wpmu.org/magic-zoom-uses-fancy-javascript-to-zoom-images-on-your WordPress...).
    Does DW offer such capability?

I upgraded DW to a test version of CS5.5. I downloaded the widget browser. I opened the jqzoom widget in the browser, which widget provides the zoom capability I'm seeking.
I then created a test page, and copied the widget code onto the page, in its respective <head> and <body> sections. This includes the following code placed in the head section:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>
    <title>jqzoom : Position- bottom 1</title>
    <script type='text/javascript' src='js/jquery-1.3.2.js'></script>
    <script type='text/javascript' src='js/jquery.jqzoom1.0.1.js'></script>
    <link type='text/css' href='css/jqzoom.css' rel='stylesheet'/>
I then tried the zoom function. Nothing happened.
In the CS5.5 split view, three 'tabs' (or 'separate elements' ???) appear among others, along the top of the page. These are: jquery-1.3.2.js, jquery-jqzoom1.0.1, and jqzoom.css. If I click on any of these 'elements' I get the message, that the element is "...not on the local disc." If I then click on the word "get" next to this statement, I get the message that element is, "...not in a defined site".
So, while these 3 'elements' -at least the copied coding from the widget as noted above, are all within the <head>  section of this test document where it is said they should be, they're not "on the local disc" and/or not "in a defined site". So, what does this mean?
This  jqzoom widget only includes two tabs: 'live view' and 'code'. My assumption is that I would just copy the code to the page, and that within CS5.5 the functionality of the copied code would be handled. Obviously, I'm wrong. What to do?

  • Why does Mail not support read receipts?

I find it hard to believe that there is a single email application that doesn't support read receipts. For me it is a fairly basic feature I would expect any decent Mail application to have.
I am currently in the process of writing an email to a company and I want to make sure they get it - a read receipt is how I want to verify that they've had it. Why does Mail not support this?
If I am going to have to accept that Mail is not the first class application Apple keeps parading around - is there an alternative that offers this and other features I would expect to find in Microsoft Outlook (minus the calendar etc...)?

Outlook uses a Microsoft-proprietary system for "read receipts", so there may be no way Apple could implement it, or there may be licensing fees involved, or Apple may just not feel that it's worth spending the money to implement. Outlook which is designed to work primarily with an Exchange server, so it's in Microsoft's interest to support Exchange features (note that even Microsoft in their own Mac app do not support all the features theydo on Windows).
You can express your interest in this feature to Apple via their feedback pages, if you wish:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
but support for return receipts in any system other than Exchange is very unlikely, since as Matt said it is not part of the Internet email specification and hence not widely supported at all.
    Regards.
