Does "merge in Photoshop" always mean HDR?
I have CS4 and am familiar with HDR techniques either with Photoshop or Photomatix. But occasionally I hear of images being "merged" in Photoshop and don't know if this means HDR, or using different exposures and/or layers to create an image in another way. Can anyone educate me on this please?

Only when calling out HDR specifically, as in 'Merge to HDR Pro...'. "Merge" as in Photomerge is used to stitch together multiple images for panoramas, collages, architectural photos, etc. where one single frame is not able to capture the intended image.
You might also hear 'merge' used in reference to merging multiple layers into a single layer, or 'merging down' referring to merging an active working layer down into a composition layer.

Does screen sharing icon always mean someone is watching?
Is it always true that the existence of the sharing icon means that another computer is looking at my screen?
I have noticed that sometimes, but not always, as soon as I enable screen sharing, the sharing icon appears at the top of the screen; even though no one is apparently sharing my screen. I limit who can share to my own login credentials; I use a strong password and while it is always possible someone got it, it doesn't seem very likely they would turn on screen sharing at the exact time that I enabled it. When I click on the icon and then click to end screen sharing, the icon soon reappears.
Also, typically when you are sharing "on purpose" and you click to stop the sharing, you are given a warning that the other user will be disconnected. I don't get that warning when I stop the sharing, which leads me to suspect that indeed no one is watching ... which begs the question of why is the icon there if no one is actively sharing?Hi,

This is the same app as invoked in the Go Menu > Go to Server > VNC

When I do this via the Go Menu I am asked to Log on to the other computer.
I have not got the "Remember this in my Keychain" activated.
I have not played around with it enough to find out if it will try to reconnect if the second (Shared) computer is shut down before the request end has Quit the App.
I also Quit by using the App Menu rather than the iCon drop down and so do not get the message.
Also if I use the Red Button on the Screen asking to Share the window closes and the App Quits with no warning popping up either.
I think, looking at your phrasing in the Post, that this has something to do with the way you are ending Screen Sharing - either stopping Permission when Connected or shutting down the the Shared Screen Computer whilst still sharing.
The other computer (asking to Share) is then trying to re-establish the connection - possibly with Keychain Stored info as soon as Permission is granted again."

We don't know because update function is hidden so deep in the Menu bar's help item that many people don't even know about it. Now you are telling us that an icon is on your desktop so this is completely unusual.
Are you sure it is not the icon for the PSE10 to make it easy for you to launch it? Can you post a screenshot of what is on your desktop.

Photoshop and Radiance .hdr format

Photoshop does not work properly with Radiance .HDR files:
Using FORMAT=32-bit_rle_rgbe
1) It ignores PRIMARIES variable on read, always assuming primaries to
be: sRGB with D65 WP (0.640 0.330 0.290 0.600 0.150 0.060 0.3127 0.3290)But according to the spec default WP, if no PRIMARIES is present, is 0.333 0.333 . 2) On write, photoshop never embeds the color profile, which is ok.
The problem is that it makes an assumption about the default WP being 0.3127 0.3290 instead
of 0.333 0.333 again.
Using FORMAT=32-bit_rle_xyze
1) I'm not quite sure about what causes this:
I converted .HDR (sRGB with D65 PRIMARIES, the only 32-bit_rle_rgbe
format photoshop reads properly)
to xyz with Radiance library, saved it in 32-bit_rle_xyze then I
opened both of them in Photoshop and see some color shift to blue in
the converted xyz file.

PRIMARIES
The CIE (x,y) chromaticity coordinates of the three (RGB)
primaries and the white point used to standardize the picture's
color system. This is used mainly by the ra_xyze program to
convert between color systems. If no PRIMARIES line
appears, we assume the standard primaries defined in
src/common/color.h, namely "0.640 0.330 0.290
0.600 0.150 0.060 0.333 0.333" for red, green, blue
and white, respectively.Photoshop uses ICC profiles. And we can't really translate raw primaries into an ICC profile: too much information is missing. So we fall back on the "missing profile" logic in Photoshop as if the file had no profile data.
When we write the file, we give the values specified by the document ICC profile. Again, we can't translate that to raw primaries -- because again too much information would be lost or missing. And 0.3333, 0.3333 is almost certainly an incorrect white point (equal energy whitepoint, not matching any useful standard).
When reading and saving XYZ data from radiance .hdr files - we use an XYZ profile. So far experiments with known image data have rendered correctly in Photoshop. They may not render correctly in applications that are not fully color managed. -
Minibridge not working properly when merging 3 JPG files to HDR
When I select three files with mini bridge and then select Photishop...Merge to HDR Pro... then I get an advise to better merge three RAW files...and END.
When I open the same three files and then go to Automate...Merge to HDR Pro....I get the same warning, I press ok, Then I get a box where I can assign exposure informations to every picture and then the HDR is created.

2.. Did you make the three files from one camera raw file and if so how?
Yes, I made them by underexposing and overexposing them 1 f-stop which is possible with RAW files.
I opened my RAW file with Camera Raw, set the exposure to -1, 0 and +1 and developed the photos into JPEGs. The exposure informations were seemingly not saved during the process.
3. In what application and what were the settings for saving the jpegs?
I used camera RAW to create the JPEG files

It works fine and I get a dialog questioning me about the exposure settings when opening the single files first and then convert it into HDR
It doesnt work and I dont get that "Manually Set EV" box when using Bridge or Mini Bridge.
Since the exposure settings would just have to be "virtual" the "Manually Set EV" dialog could as well be implemented into the automated process using Bridge. -

How does Merged Dimensions Work in WebI created on SAP BI Queries

I need to know how does Merge dimensions work in WebI when using SAP BI Query as source?
Below is my understanding when connection is defined for the universe on oracle database:
1) To get the data in merged dimensions, there must be physical join (Either Direct or vai some other tables) between different tables at backend level (This means there must be join between tables in Oracle database.)
2) we get the UNION of data when dimensions are merged at webI level.
I dont know how this works in SAP BI.
Since there is different data model defined for different BI Queries in SAP , and for each BI Query and there is seperate Universe, So how can you get correct data in WebI when there is no connections in DSO's used in different BI queries?
Can any one suggest me the way data apperas in merged dimensions for WebI created on SAP BI?I assume we are only talking about merging dimensions in Web Intelligence here and not on the BW backend. this is a client side mere where you have 2 resultsets.
if you want to do this on the BI server side it would be a multi-provider combining different InfoProviders - or a InfoSet - depending on the join type you need. MultiProvider is a union, Infoset allows you to choose

Hi All. In my console appeared message "console: Could not find image 'BackArrow' ". Does somebody know what it means ???
BRI believe this to be a bug in Console.app and that it started with 10.7.3 or 10.7.4. The message is generated by Console.app (Console: Could not…). On my system it is always these 2 messages and they are triggered by launching Console.app.

Try opening and closing Console.app a few times and you’ll see. I suppose this is just a bug where the app is trying to locate some of its resources which might just be icon images for back/forward that are (maybe) no longer used but still referenced. -

thanks a lot for your reply. It actually helped me: I turned on and filled in "5GHz Network name", gave the 5GHz network another name and forced the iMac to connect to this network. It wasn't actually that seamless, because for some reason the 5GHz network appears much later in the site survey than the 2.4GHz one, and when I first tried it and didn't see the 5GHz network in the list, I typed the network name manually. This way I verified that the 5GHz network at least works.
The fact that the iMac connects to the stronger signal is interesting, I would expect kind of a more intelligent behaviour from one Apple device talking to another Apple device, but never mind. Yet one more thing: now I can see that the 5GHz connected iMac has Signal -57 and Noise -96. Doesn't this mean that this network has better signal-to-noise ratio than the 2.4 GHz network (which has -69 and -96 respectivelly)? So why does iMac choose the more noisy network anyway?

Does merging layers make smaller png images?

I am curious about something and cannot seem to find a specific answer...
Does Merging Layers before saving the image for the web make the file size smaller?
Or does it not matter how many (open) Layers the image has when it comes time to save it for the web?
Thank you very much for your time.If you flatten before you save for web you loos your layers, your work. If you use save for web or save as to save an image file in a file format that does not support layers like Jpeg and PNG. Photoshop will temporary flatten the current document change color depth to 8bit if need be, optionally convert to sRGB color space then encode the images into the file format you want to save, write the file and then revert your document to the state it was in before you did the save for web or save as. You can then preserve you work by saving the document into a file format that supports layers, PSD, PSB or Tiff.

My imac is doing strange things:
-delaying between users: when closing session it goes to blue, then takes a while to appear users signin box, and then wont recognize mouse command to enter until a couple of minutes later... then everything seems alright until....
-it gets stuck between things, the rainbow wheel appears and its just delays there forever....
-and every now and then the mouse starts flickering and bouncing wildly onscreen.
I ran the appel hardware test and it detected an error:

Does anybody know what that means? HELP!WZZZ answered about where to get iStat. And do check the SMART status. If it is an overheating problem due to a fan or logic board problem, your hard drive is possibly cooking itself to death. If so it isn't a faulty hard drive even though the hard drive might fail. So assuming it's a temperature problem, even if you are able to repair things on the disk with software, that is working on symptoms, not causes. I could be wrong however.
RE: AppleCare: Your iMac came with one year of AppleCare (Apple's warranty program), but within the first year you can buy 2 more years. You have to extend by the one year anniversary of purchase of the computer. Your 10,1 is too old to still be in the first year, and since you asked what it was, I'm sure you don't have it. Bottom line meaning is that whatever this problem turns out to be, you'll have to pay for it. Unless there is something like this. It is for 2011 iMacs with certain Seagate drives. You can put in your serial number for fun, but it looks like yours is too old. Lastly, some people have had Apple help them anyway if it is just out of warranty, but many have not. Your machine is one of these. Type in 10,1 in the search box. Is there an Apple Store near you? Just b/c it's out of warranty doesn't mean you shouldn't have it looked at by Apple. But no one here can say at all what Apple will or will not do.

Lightroom does not open photoshop using "Edit in adobe photoshop CC-" command.
I updated lightroom and photoshop using the CC desktop. (LR V5.3 x64, PS V14.6.2 x64) This broke the “Edit in adobe photoshop CC…” command.
Based on advice from this forum, I unistalled both programs completely and reinstalled them. The
“Edit in adobe photoshop CC…” command is still broken.

After downloading the latest version of iTunes and updating my iPhone, everytime I turn on my computer I receive a message that reads: "AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Entry Point Not Found. Yes. I just solved the problem on my PC. Here goes...
Issue: My Windows7 computer was producing the pop up box with the error text as you described.
The Problem: You have another application on your computer that uses the like named .DLL file... in this case a DLL supporting SQLite on your local PC.
Solution:
1. You need to use the Windows File search feature to look for the name "SQLite". This will quickly locate the offending DLL in the other application.
2. Decide which program you like the most, in my case "Mobile Me", and uninstall the offending application.
3. Uninstall Mobile Me.
4. Restart your PC.
5. Reinstall Mobile Me.
6. Mobile Me should sync at this point, but if not, restart the PC once again.
In my case, the offending program was my Aptana Studio development application. I had recently the SQLite3 database to my Ruby On Rails configuration...
This is where the file was located:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Aptana Studio 2.0\plugins\com.aptana.radrails.sqlite3.win32_3.5.7.1278709071\vendor\SQLite3.d ll
