Does Mountain Lion (10.8.4) come with SharePoint plug-ins, or did I just install these?

I did a custom installation of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac on my MacBook Air running 10.8.4., but I changed my mind and decided to uninstall it.
I only installed Word, Excel, and Proofing Tools (English only).
I'm reading up on how to fully remove all the tidbits Microsoft sprinkled about, and I noticed a couple files on my system:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SharePointBrowserPlugin.plugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SharePointWebKitPlugin.webplugin
I didn't include SharePoint in the installation, so I'm not sure that's where these files came from. It's a new machine, so the only alternative is that they were included with OS X 10.8.4, in which case I'm inclined to leave them be.
Does anybody know more about these files, where they likely came from?

AFAIK OS X 10.8.4 does not come with SharePoint plug-ins. Those are from Microsoft and are most likely added by SilverLight.
I am running OS X 10.10.1 and Office 14.4.6 and I do not have SilverLight installed... I do not have those two plug-ins you mention. Thus I don't believe Office for the Mac 2011 loaded them.
Hope that helps

  • Don't own Mountain Lion even though it comes with rMBP?

    Hi!
It seems that I don't own Mountain Lion in the app store so I have two questions.
    1. Should I own it? It does come with the machine after all
    2. If I don't own it, how do I make a clean install of Mountain Lion?
Sorry if I'm missing something obvious.

Clck your Apple menu icon top left corner in your screen.
From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
Mountain Lion is installed on your Mac if you see Version 10.8  (or 10.8.2)
If your Mac came with Mountain Lion installed, it won't show under Purchases in the App Store.
If you need to reinstall Mountain Lion or repair the startup disk, use Mountain Lion Recovery.

When are you seeing these messages? When Safari is running? If so, some web site is trying to perform a Java attack.
There is virtually no reason to have Java on in your web browser. Open Safari's preferences and turn off the check box for Java. Leave JavaScript on.

  • Since installing mountain lion i have a problem with mail. when i delete a message close  and open mail the message has come back. please help!

Since installing Mountain Lion i have a problem with Mail. I delete a number of messages from the same person but keep the newest message in my Inbox. I actually delete them from the Trash. The next time i open Mail the deleted messages are back again. Can anybody please help as this is getting annoying. Thanks in Anticipation.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

  • Why does mountain lion "bunch up" all my microsoft office documents that I have open when I hit f3? When I had snow leopard for example, if i had 4 or 5 different microsoft office documents open at the same time I could hit f3 and easily pick one of them

Why does mountain lion "bunch up" all my microsoft office documents that I have open when I hit f3? When I had snow leopard for example, if i had 4 or 5 different microsoft office documents open at the same time I could hit f3 and easily pick one of them.
Notice how in the photo, I can't identify which MS office document I would like to switch too. Perhaps since the Dashboard and Desktop windows are at the top of my screen now Apple doesn't let you have all the applications take up the full screen and be sized individually so that you can have a better idea on what to pick.
I like the idea of grouping to an extent... If you have a bunch of random things it was hard for me to decifer between what was safari, chrome, or word. But now that they grouped them like this, if you have multiple pages of one program running, you can't switch between those pages easily like before.

If I wanted to open any of my Applework documents I had to open them one at a time and resave them with pages. This could take weeks.I have 1000s of apple work documents.
You don't have to open and re-save every AppleWorks document you have right now. Just wait till you need one, then do it. The documents aren't going anywhere.
Am I dealing with Microsoft? This was a BIG surprise to me that Apple would release an OS without testing all programs.
Frankly, it is not Apple's responsibility to ensure compatibiltiy with every piece of software available for OS X. That is the responsibility of the software vendor. Lion has been available to developers for several months before it's release, so Microtek had plenty of time to update their software. Yet they did not. How is that Apple's fault? I think Apple was very generous to give you a refund for Lion.
I'm not trying to belittle your frustration but I do think your ire is misplaced.

  • Does Mountain Lion support trim for SSDs? ...

I've been reading various forum posts and I find conflicting info. I did se several references to a tool called 'trim enabler.'
I have a late 2012 Mac Mini with Mountain Lion and installed a Samsung 830 SSD.
System Report shows that trim is not enabled for the drive. Does Mountain Lion support trim for these drives? How important is it to enable it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

Apple does not support the 3rd party drives.  To enable it (without installing another software package), you can visit the website:
    http://digitaldj.net/2011/07/21/trim-enabler-for-lion/
I ran the series of commands on my Mac Pro and it did enable TRIM.
the webpage even has a backup/back-out procedure.
Without TRIM, my computer was running extremely slowly.  After enabling TRIM, my computer ran substancially faster.

  • Does Mountain Lion support Word 2008?

Does Mountain Lion support MicroSoft Word 2008?

I had completely uninstalled Office '08 on my old computer running Snow Leopard and had already made the switch to Office '11 when I got my new MBP with Lion. Since I used Setup Assistant, everything migrated well and I've had no trouble with ML and '11.
However, if you visit the MS Office for Mac user forums you will note that many users of '08 - and Word '08 in particular - are/were having problems with Lion and, now, with ML. I would suggest that your wife just customize '11 to her liking - shortcuts can always be modified (well, most of the time).
There are instructions on how to completely uninstall '08 here.
