Does moving my service to a new device prevent me from tracing my stolen iPhone?

My iPhone was recently stolen. It was powered down at the time. I am using the "Find iPhone" app and have the phone set to "Lost Mode Pending". If I move my phone service to a replacement iPhone would that prevent the Find my iPhone app from locating the stolen phone even if someone powers it up?

The tracing is based on the stolen iPhone having Find My Phone turned on, linked to iCloud, and the iPhone must be powered up and connected to the internet. Anyone of those is missing and it cannot be found.
The tracing is not dependent on the phone service provider unless you cannot access your iCloud account.

I would suggest restore from a backup if you have the backup available. This way settings and other items will be restored once the process is complete.

If the iphone device is removed from the Find my Iphone app in Icloud, does this mean that it is unlinked/removed from the account after the account is removed manually in the icloud settings of the phone? Yes, you likely got a returned (already purchased by someone else) device. Return it where you purchased it from and get a new device. No NEW Apple device will have someone's email address on it.

New ios device - prevent apps from automatically being downloaded

Hi.
I dont want any apps being automatically downloaded on a new iphone. When ever I have previously signedin with my apple id on a new device, all my old app get downloaded. This is a little annoying and slows down the device loads while it downloading 100+ app
Any help would be great.

Moving iPod touch contents to new device

I lost my iPod touch back in March. Have tried finding my device, and it always says Offline. I have a new iPod touch being delivered today. How do I go about getting all the apps, music, etc. from the backup of my old iPod to my new one?

New kernel prevents computer from booting

i installed kernel26-scsi 2.6.13.4-1 by means of pacman about a week ago, ran lilo, rebooted to find that before lilo loaded the screen had a bunch of "99"s printing across the screen. Once they stopped printing the processor hung. Every time i restart this happens. I booted to knoppix and installed the same kernel again but it still wouldn't boot. so I booted to knoppix again copied the contents of my scsi that i was trying to boot from to my ide and wiped my scsi. I put in the arch 0.7 cd and did an ftp install on the scsi drive. I installed kernel24-scsi since i had trouble with doing a fresh install with udev, lilo, and the kernel26-scsi, hoping that when i got it running i would be able to put kernel 2.6 on it. it still boots to a bunch of "99"s printed accross the screen and stalls the cpu. Is this some kind of hardware issue with the new kernel or can anyone help me solve this problem?

As you have not told us you where prepared for udev/devfs - and 80% of help calls here and in irc have been udev related - phrakture had to guess - he did a quick shot and missed. So what?

Unfortunately, I don't use or kn ow lilo very well. As far as I know, lilo has some strange issues if beeing used in a dual boot to windows or linux scenario, and some other strange behaviours. Furthermore, 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 etc seemes to be a lilo message that should tell you lilo can't get further then stage one. This can be a damaged mbr, for example, or if windows has repaired the mbr and destroyed lilo, or a physically damaged hard disk. Have you rerun "lilo" or "liloconf"? They will reinstall LILO to the drive and make the second stage loader look in the right spot...which apparently it is not, hence the L 99 99 99 99 ...
As you tried a reinstall using ftp, I think you could try cd based install, to be sure. I would recommend to use grub instead of lilo.

Text flows create a delay when an overflow creates a new page, preventing you from reading the page number, giving error

Hi all!
I am creating a script to generate automatically a photo catalog; the idea is to prepare a master document with a text frame in the master spread with auto flowing, then insert images with their caption by the script, letting the system create automatically the subsequent pages when necessary by an unique flow of text.
My catalog is divided in sections, each represented by a different master spread; so I have to know in which page I am working when the script put there an image, just to link the current page to the proper master spread.
To simplify everything I have resumed the core of my script here, using text instead of images:

The big problem is: when the first text frame is full and an overflow is generated, a new page with a new text frame belonging to the main text flow (as the master spread wants) is generated; but it seems my script requests the page number before the new page with the new text frame is born, and an error is given.
It seems like the script goes too fast in respect to the creation of the new page.
If I delete the line thisPage = story.insertionPoints[-1].parentTextFrames[0].parentPage.documentOffset; everything is ok.
I tried to introduce a delay until 3 seconds without any effect.
I tried also to show or zoom the new page before the page number request, thinking to force the system to wait until page is really born, also without any effect (by the way, I was not able to show the page during the script's additions of text!).
Someone can help me?

Why does Apple refuses to use the activation procedure in iTunes to block a stolen iPhone 4S

My iPhone was stolen in Buenos Aires by two, male and female, professional culprits roaming the tourist areas.
Blocked the iPhone (SIM card), filed a police report and activated "Find my iPhone".
Called Apple support with proof of ownership and asked them to put this iPhone on the blacklist in order to avoid activation on iTunes.
Thieves and people trying to buy cheap iPhone's will end up having just a heavy iPod touch. That will learn the fat bastards.
Hope Apple will soon introduce a new App; Explode my iPhone in the face of a thief.

Sync used new iPad with iTunes w/o setting as new device or restoring

few weeks after using new iPad that never synced with iTunes (backing up to iCloud), i want to sync iBooks and Aperture photos from iTunes library.
But, when i connect my iPad to iTunes using usb cable, there are only two choices: Set as new device or restore from older backup. I dont want to sync anything but iBooks and photos. What could i do?

Hmm, is Whitson's iPad the current name of the device, or an earlier iPad? Does that image you've shown occupy the entire iTunes window or is the usual column of library sources and playlists shown down the left-hand side. If the list is there then the iPad should appear as a device that you can right/option/cmd-click on. Failing that with all your purchases having come from the store you should be able to set up as new device and then reacquire all your store content but that would lose any data and settings. I suppose that after restoring as new, then backing up to the machine, you could then try restoring the backup from the cloud, and then if needed go through the original process as I suggested.
You might find that if you opt to set up as new nothing actually changes until you choose some content to sync, which may give you the opportunity to use the process I've previously outlined. Sorry I can't be clearer but I know that method has worked for a few people who have had to switch computers after a crash. I'm not personally familiar with the process under your precise circumstances.
The "cut the cord" feature which allowed you to set up the device without connecting to a computer is all well and good but if you have to go through this sort of effort when the time comes that you want to hook up your device to a library on your computer it becomes a complete nightmare.

How can map bookmarks be transfered to new devices?

Book marks on maps cannot be transfered to new devices through icloud. This makes you have to re enter each book mark into the maps of the new device.
If icloud saved map book marks and transfered them to new devices, then setting up a new device with information from previous devices would be easier

I have an Epson 4180 flatbed scanner which will copy my 35 mm slides 4 at a time. It takes about a minute a slide. The software that came with the scanner imports the pictures to the mac in JPG form. I then import in into I-photo. I had about 4000 slides collected over 50 years and there are a 1000 in my I-photo library. This software will also scan the slide and convert it to PDF which is handy for copying and sending correspondence or whatever in E-mail.

I have an apple ipad dock (30 pin) which I used for an ipad2. Can this charge other 30 pin apple devices? I have tried an old ipod nano but it doesn't fit. I wondered about older models of iphone or other ipod models.

I have tried it again with the Nano and on a closer look it's appears that the contours of the device prevent it from sitting/ connecting properly in the dock. The dock is shaped so that it rest against a back piece, just behind the connector, so unless the device shaped in the same way as the ipad then it's unlikely to connect. I should have realised this before I posted. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
