Does MPE Affect My Exports?

I've just made a bunch of changes to my system in an effort to speed up my slow exports.  I now have them exporting and rendering faster, but I did so many things at once that I'm not sure which thing has made a difference.
I reinstalled Win 7, and also CS5 PP, and in the process I forgot to run "The Hack," ahem, for my GTX480 Nvidia card.  So MPE isn't on now.  And things are faster, at least exporting.
Is it possible that the MPE can actually SLOW things down?  Especially since isn't not an officially supported card?

That's true, but there's a difference in whether AME is acting as the master application or as the servant. When you use the Queue command, you're putting the sequence into the AME queue for processing later by AME, with AME as the master. It then calls a headless version of Premiere Pro to render frames that AME then encodes. This is different from the File > Export > Media command, which uses the main Premiere Pro application to render frames and then sends those to a servant AME instance for encoding.
There are pros and cons to both ways. One of the cons of the queue approach is that it isn't CUDA-accelerated.
