Does my activity monitor look ok?

I was just wondering if anything looks suspicious to you guys as i don't know what to look out for when on Actvity Monitor. I am really paranoid about threats and viruses etc...
Thanks.

Good question.  You don't need to worry about running those.  They will run automatically when needed by the system.  The information they generate (some) is sent to apple automatically (unless that setting is disabled).
If you want to look at the output of these files, most can be found in the console (Utility/Console).  Open the app and look at all the system messages your Mac generates....on the right hand side I would bet you already have a crash log or spindump that was collected without you even knowing it.

  • Activity Monitor looks weird

Activity Monitor on my friend's MacBook isn't displaying right. The graph for "show cpu history" looks like it's cut in half with a white line of pixils. Weird. Any ideas? (The dock icon looks like that – with the line – too.
    (I don't think I can add attachments, but here's a screenshot.)

    Great news!
Still haven't seen that on the 8 Core Mac Pros!

  • MacPro Quad Core 32g Ram running slow Logic using only 9g in Activity Monitor

Well its taken a while, but this is my first foray into the world of forums! I'm so hacked off with this regular problem and havent been able to find anything anywhere to solve it i thought i'd see if anyone has any similiar issues and maybe even a solve to it.
So.... im an orchestrator and producer and after my mid 2008 Macbook Pro with 8g ram started freezing up i invested in this 3 years ago -
Mac Pro 2x 2.4ghz Quad Core intel Xeon and stuck in 32gb of lovely Crucial RAM and 3 seperate internal 1TB drives with one for operating system (10.6.8), one for Audio recording/saving and one for all my sample libraries.
32gb ram - should be enough i thought!
So i regularly run at least 30 VI's - Ni The giant, Spitfire Orchestral librabies (say 12 string instruments up to 0.69g per load) LASS strings, plus perc STYLUS, ABBEY road drums, Trillian basses (acoustic/electric), ominisphere etc etc. So pretty hefty sample instruments. But theyre sooo nice!!
In addition, the 32 bit server will come alive (NOT! So unstable i find) with my Waves plugs etc.
Looking at ACTIVITY MONITOR however i might be not touching 9 gig (and sometimes even less) of usage for Logic, and only say 800MB for 32 bit server and have NOTHING else open - and what do i find .....
    - Mouse lag and cant really do anything with the mouse whilst playing the track - cant adjust volume - too slow, zooming problems
    - Takes a good 2-3 seconds for track to stop playing
Dont get System OVERLOADS so much, its just that the system goes REALLLLLY slow.
    What ive tried- - -
    - Running Mountain Lion off another drive (havent had time to install it and wanted to be sure everything worked etc)
    - Tried all audio prefs - large/small buffers/threads etc and yes i am on 1024.
in a nutshell how come with 32g RAM everything is so slow when barely using 10g of that???????
I dread getting to the end of a project cos i know im gonna be freezing so much, but with so much editing all the time for the orchestral parts i need everything unfrozen and working.
Sorry if this is long winded but wanted to describe what im experiencing.
Any feedback most welcome! Thankyou in advance.

    Hi
    A few thoughts:

The 32bit server is a pita: Waves v9 are 64bit  compatible (they run fine). 32 bit VI's can be run outside Logic using Vienna Ensemble Pro (see later)

Some of these VI's are extremely CPU hungry: Abbey Rd drums for example, really do hammer the CPU. What does Logic's Performance meter show in the way of CPU load. What does Activity Monitor show regarding CPU load?
With 32G of RAM, this should not be the issue, but you might have general CPU problems (see above), and you may also have Sample disk streaming limitations if all the Loibraries you mention are on the same drive. How does Activity Monitor look regarding disk access? You might find it helpful to add a second drive and split the sample libraries across 2 for faster disk access.
I presume that you have plenty of free space on the System drive?
Logic can get sluggish if the Undo info gets way too big, and also if there are loads of regions in the Arrange: check Options:Project Information.
Many are finding some benefits (me included) by running the VI's in Vienna Ensemble Pro:
Better CPU load distribution than directly in Logic
"Persistant Samples": they can remain loaded whilst you switch Logic Projects
Logic is effectively running much less itself, so generally flies.
32bit Plugs hosted separately in VEP so no 32bit Bridge issues in Logic
Something to consider, though perhaps not yet, would be setting up a Slave computer using VEP.

  • Why is all my new mail in Archive not my Inbox & Activity Monitor

    Three questions.
    1.     All new mail from ntlworld & gmail now automatically goes into Archive.
    2.     Why does the Activity Monitor state that I have nearly half a million email incoming
    3.     Why does email arrive WAY before on my iphone/ipad.. it takes ages for it to arrive on my laptop. Sometimes I have to log out and log in for it to appear

I've got exactly the same behavior with Yosemite, suddenly no new emails hit my inbox and everything goes in the Gmail (Tous les messages) folder. Looks like someone once again changed the behavior.
Does anyone has a clue on how to fix this?

  • Thunder bird is deleting my emails shortly after they arrive. The activity monitor shows they are deleted. I cant find a way to stiop it.

As stated, the emails disappear even as I watch. I have no filters set to delete and also I thought deleted emails went into the trash but they are not.

In that setting I have not enabled the adaptive junk mail controls, the square is unticked. Similarly the global junk preferences.

  • Memory shown in activity monitor is incorrect

why is the activity monitor showing a descrepancy with the physical memory installed?

Why do you think there is a discrepancy? If you click the apple on the menu bar, and about this mac, how much memory does it say you have? What does the activity monitor say you have (and where are you reading it from)?

  • There ' is a panel that sayscopy' preparing to duplicate to "desktop". I clicked stop three days and it still trying to stop. Tried to 'force quit' does not show up, looked in activity monitor but i am not sure how it is listed. I am new to the mac world.

there is panel in the upper right corner of my screen that says 'copy' preparing to duplicate to "desktop". I clicked stop three days ago and it is still trying to stop. Tried to 'force quit' does not show up in finder, looked in activity monitor but i am not sure how it is listed. I am new to the mac world.

    Force quit/Restart the Finder.
    Then for safety...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • How does Activity Monitor Touch work?

Just wondering if anyone knows how this app works. The screen shot makes it look like it tells you much much time you spend playing games, on factime, reading, etc etc..... Does the iOS store this type of info in memory somewhere? Just curious how they would retrieve/calculate that type of info....
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/activity-monitor-touch-free/id395986290?mt=8

I'm not sure where they get the 'data' they say they are monitoring, but that app is worthless because some of the 'data' is not even accessable to iOS apps.

  • Why does airport base station show up in activity monitor if I do not have nor us it?

Been having internet problems and been watching my activity monitor a lot. AirportBaseStationAgent shows up often as does loginwindowagent and a few other odd ones. This happens even when airport is off and I am doing nothing but watching the monitor.
On a seperate but like issue - My internet is continually spotty and I stay online by running the dignostic thing in network. I hit it and it shows the last two or three lights orange for just a sec and then green...do again immediately same thing until I get green consistantly - then internet works fine for a bit and then have to do it all again. The first day I change router info or the first day i erased everything on my computer it did not do this and internet was great, but now back to having to run it constantly or weirdly, if I constantly run pages at say wiki I get less interruption. What is this? I feel like someone is on my computer and all I hear is how unlikely that is and why? I dont' know why, I just know it really seems that way.
Any help on either question???  Please?

thanks, figured it out..must have been a case of the fat fingers.

  • "Activity Monitor" utility does not update the "CPU Time" column in real ti

If I use Activity Monitor to display "All Processes", why doesn't it update the "CPU Time" column in real time? It updates the "% CPU" and others, but not the total "CPU Time". I have all columns viewed if that matters. However if you double click on a process in the Activity Monitor window, the details about the process are displayed in another window (number of threads, ports, CPU Time, Context Switches, Faults, etc), and as long as that detail window exists, the "CPU Time" column is updated in real time in the main Activity Monitor window. Is this a bug or a feature?? Does Leopard do this also? Have lots of free memory so that is not an issue. Thanks...
    -Bob

I noticed the same behavior reported by Bob: Not regarding the "process filter" or the "update frequency" selected "CPU Time" column is only updated when details dialog is open. I noticed it just today (which triggered the search here), I wonder if this "feature" has been always present or maybe activity monitor is getting lazy?

  • Activity Monitor does not want to open

    Hello all!
As you see, question in subject. I am trying to open Activity monitor on MacBook Pro and it is not coming up.
    All possible updates are installed.
    Thank you for answer,
    Ivan

Open the Console application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and look for log entries made around the time you tried to open the Activity Monitor.
If you see a message about the pmTool not being setuid root, use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to repair permissions.
If you see a message about GraphKit not being found, see this thread for a fix.

  • Activity monitor does not show processes

When I run activity monitor it will not show any activity. Also, it does not show system memory, disk activity, or network. I think that the CPU section it not running correctly, either. Any suggestions.

Nevermind..... I was using the activity monitor that transfered over from the powerbook!!

I can't run activity monitor application. It just processes with the multicolored disc spinning, but does not open.  It also won't close without using "Force Quit." When I access it in Force Quit it's listed as not responding. I am getting the messase that my start-up disc is full, but I can't assess the status without using the activity monitor app. Thanks for any assistance you can give. -F.J.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your hard drive is full, you have to delete files. Open Finder, search in all your user's folders and delete files that you don't need, or move them to an external drive.
When the hard drive is full, OS X works slow and applications may freeze, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the reason why Activity Monitor isn't working
