What version of Windows are we talking about and what do you expect to accomplish doing this? Also FYI if that laptop doesn't have drivers for the Unbuntu O/S don't expect to get help in this forum for it.

Can my early 2008 macbook intel core 2 duo laptop be dual booted?

    Welcome to the Mac community.
Boot Camp has a great support page - I would look at it carefully if I were you.
You can install it from your Snow Leopard install disks.
    Best of luck.

  • Can my Macbook Pro support dual boot and Secret World

    Hi
My MacBook Pro has the following specs
Processor  2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
I was wondering if it can first of all, support dual boot, because I would like to play a Windows based MMORPG. And I was wondering if there are risks involved? I'm also worried because I like Mac's secure delete trash function and won't having a Windows platform affect that?
Furthermore, can it support playing Secret World with such specs?
Secret World is an MMORPG I'm not sure what the minimum requirements are.. It doesn't say, but anyone has a guess?
    -EDIT
OS:      Windows XP (SP 1)/Vista (SP 1)/Windows 7 (SP 1)
PROCESSOR:      2.6 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
MEMORY: At least 2GB RAM for Windows XP / 3GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7 *
VIDEO CARD:     nVidia 8800 series 512 VRAM or better/Radeon HD3850 512MB or better
    DIRECTX: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

If you have an MBP with a Core 2 Duo processor and a clock speed of 2.16 or 2.33 GHz, your max is 3 GB. If you have a 2.2, 2.4, 2.5 or 2.6 GHz clock speed your max is 4 GB.
Check Apple menu > About this Mac for processor type and speed.
I can tell you what you should see - C2D at 2.16 or 2.33 GHz. Those machines have a 3 GB max stated by Apple, but will actually use ~3.2 GB if you have 2 x 2 GB installed, and you get the (marginal) benefit of having a matched pair. In that case, it's also 'normal' for About this Mac to show 4 GB even though the memory controller can only access a little over 3 GB.

  • Making a Windows 7 Toshiba laptop a dual boot system (w/ XP)

I am looking to probably get a Toshiba laptop here in the next month. Most likely it will be one that will include WIndows 7. While I have another desktop with Windows 7 installed on it and like it for the most part, there are a few pieces of hardware I have that aren't running correctly right now under W7 due to drivers not being availble for it. Therefore, I made this custom desktop a dual boot system with XP & W7 on it.This way I have XP on it for when I might have to use these pieces of hardware.
I would like to possibly do the same thing for this new Toshiba laptop as well. Have XP on it in case I need it for incompatible hardware & compatibility issues that may arise. Can I easily put XP on a Toshiba laptop with W7 already installed? I would have to create a separate partition to possibly put XP on as this is the way I prefer to have it when making a dual boot system. However, I have several concerns if trying to do this. They include the following:
If I create/add another hard drive partition for XP, will I essentially make the recovery partition/software useless?
When I have made dual boot systems in the past, I usually have to start with the older OS. Then add the newer OS and it will do it automatically. Take care of everything for the dual boot menu. I have experienced problems when going backwards (like this) though. Will that happen as well & I'll then have problems getting back into W7?
If this is the case for both, do most Toshiba Laptops come with recovery software on CDs? This way I can maybe wipe the drive out, install XP and then install W7 (w/ the CDs) in order to make a correct dual boot system. Or does the recovery software/CDs need to be speically ordered directly from Toshiba & that is generally why they just put it on a recovery partition instead?
    Solved!

Wise of you to investigate in advance.
Your best bet by far nowadays is to get a laptop with hardware virtualization and either the Professional or Ultimate versions of Windows 7 installed. That way, you can use XP Mode.
       Windows XP Mode (Toshiba)
       Windows XP Mode (Microsoft)
You can even open an XP program directly from a shortcut in Windows 7.
For current models suitable to run XP Mode, I suggest you call ToshibaDirect at 888-520-3926.

  • Can I run XP AND Vista 64 with bootcamp?  Or does it only allow dual boot?

    Hi Folks.
Reinstalling Bootcamp. Want to use Vista 64 for faster Mental Ray rendering on 3dsMax, but I still want to play games on XP. Can I do a triple boot install with Bootcamp?
If not can I do an XP install then do a dual boot within my Windows partition or will that confuse bootcamp?
Anyone had any luck with this?

Easiest if you install Vista first to a boot camp space that will be large enough to hold all the Windows OS's you want to use. After install, right click My Computer -> Manage: select Disk Management; you can shrink Boot Camp partition C, which leaves OS intact but allows another install to new D: "drive" created from shrink. Option key at start up allows boot for next install. You can control resulting Windows multiboot from System Properties->Advanced tab->Start and Recovery Setting.
Because Dos isn't there for FDisk at start up, in XP, I've done same with Diskpart.exe which is likely in \System32. Have not done this in Mac.

  • Does my laptop support Sata 3?

Hi I own a HP ENVY 15-J181na, I am thinking of buying an SSD dive to replace the one that came with the laptop. I would like to know if this laptop supports Sata 3 so that I will be able to take full advantage of the speed of the SSD?
    Thanks

Hi: Unless someone with the same model number as yours has installed a SATA III drive, and can report that it runs at the SATA III speed, no one will be able to give you a definite answer. I can tell you that the chipset your notebook has definitely supports SATA III, but there are a few models that also supported sata III, but only ran at the SATA II speed because HP decided to hook the sata drives to the sata II drive controller instead of the SATA III controller. Most likely it will run at the SATA III speed, but there is a remote chance it won't.

  • Does Photoshop CC support dual monitors

I just got off a chat with PS CC support. Since the latest update I have to click several times on photos edited in Camera Raw before they open in PS. The support person tells me that Adobe does not recommend the use of dual monitors. I have been using dual monitors for over 5 years, my computer has plenty of horsepower and every photographer or designer I know uses at least two monitors and sometimes more. It seems ridiculoyus to me that Adobe would say this. Has anyone else run into this concern? Thanx
    Jim Cummings.

Jim, can you correlate the delay with anything other than Photoshop/Bridge?  What drive is the Bridge cache saving to?  What drive is Photoshop's primary scratch space assigned to?   I'm wondering if those drives are needing to wake up from sleep mode.
If this is happening with previously processed RAW files, could it be to do with their Sidecar files?  Do virgin RAW files open OK?  You could try converting to DNG perhaps.  John Nack blogged about saving a ton of drive space converting all his RAW files to DNG a few days ago.  Whoops!  I just checked and it was to do with Lightroom

What's you internet connection like, and are you using Sync Settings?  Have you installed any new fonts?

  • Does my laptop support UEFI

Hi, i have a dv6-6170us laptop. I want to know if its support UEFI.
I have the latest bios update, the F 1b.

I can finally see the images. Did you enter the BIOS and click on the Security options if they exist?
Your images do not show that. InSyde BIOSes normally have sections for Configuration,Security and Boot Options.
Power button , immediately tap the Esc key  a few times to invoke the startup menu and then select F10 for the BIOS. F9 is for the Boot options. There is also a Boot options screen in the BIOS.

For effective HD video editing, a laptop with the following

  • HT1461 Since when did Apple support dual-booting Windows?

I thought Microsoft and Apple were enemies.
That would be like Apple supporting the installation of Android on an iPhone.

Since around 2006 natively, and long before by emulators.
If Apple and Microsoft were truly enemies why would Microsoft produce and sell Office for OS X?
