Does my mac have to be on to use apple tv

I was thinking about picking up an apple tv sometime soon but I wanted to know if you need to have your mac on to watch purchased content on the apple tv.
So say for instance I buy an episode of Father Ted on my iPhone 4 or Mac, would I be able to watch this purchased content later at some stage using my apple TV directly through the internet without needing my mac on?

That would be a nice feature but still not quite what i'm after, main thing is that if my mac has to be on and running itunes to watch through apple TV it would be useless for other people in the house when I'm not around with my macbook. Was really hoping apple TV would just stream from the net using your itunes account to validate what you have already paid for....
(incidentally what are the rules about purchasing stuff on different devices? If i purchase a hd film on my mac can I also sync/download it to my iPhone too?)

  • I AM STRUGGLINT TO ACCESS MY IPHOTO'S AND HAVE TO GO THROUGH APPLICATIONS TO ACCESS MY PHOTOS. HOW CAN I CORRECT THIS PLEASE. DOES THE MAC HAVE A DEFRAG?  TX

I am having problems viewing my iPhoto from the dock and have to go through my applications to view. What do I have to do to correct this please? Also does the Mac have a defrag function? I have also been advised by the sales person that the Mac does not need an antivirus programme, is this true?

I'm sorry but your post make no sense
first off All Caps is not necessary and makes things hard to read and is consider shouting - it is rude
Second you do not have "an iPhoto" - iPhoto is an application that manages photos - the photos are stored (by default) in the iPhoto library in a SQL lite database and you use the iPhoto program to manage them
I am having problems viewing my iPhoto from the dock and have to go through my applications to view.
can you please explain this in some detail. When you launch iPhoto by clicking on the iPhoto icon in the Dock what happens?
As to your other OS questions this is certainly not hte best place to address them - we are iPhoto users just like yourself here  ---  basically as I understand it (and I have had had Macs for 30+ years) there is no "defrag and you do not need one - and antivirus is your choice - most people feel it is a waste of money on a Mac but some like to have it

  • Does PSE6-Mac have Date/Calendar View?

    Hello
Years ago, I used PSE for windows and I liked the date/calendar view, especially since, if I remember correctly, I could add text to a date even if I didn't have photos associated with that date.
Does PSE6-Mac have this date/calendar feature?
If not, do you know of a calendar application that does link with a set of photos, to link by date
    Thank you -

    No.
PSE for the Mac has no Organizer features whatsoever.

  • How much does reinstalling Mac 10.4.11 cost at the Apple Store?

My iBook freezes at startup. No matter how many online tutorials I have used, it just will not work. How much does reinstalling Mac 10.4.11 cost at the Apple Store in the Danbury Fair Mall?

If you already have the Tiger re-installation media, dont pay to have it installed. There are many excellent sources on the web  that have tutorials that you could print out and have handy, or you could view the tutorials on another computer nearby. Also many cities and towns have local computer clubs that meet up to exchange ideas and chat, some specifically apple. I would ask around. Many of these clubs are free, and the members help each other at no charge
If you dont own a Copy of Tiger, Craiglist or eBay might be your best bet. Just dont overpay. People like to charge exhorbitant amounts of money for older copies of OS X.

  • Does FrameMaker 12 have an LEID value for use with serialization via AAMEE?

Does FrameMaker 12 have an LEID value for use with serialization via AAMEE?

I wish life was that easy :-).
You have a valid argument; So I had this kind of test going. I had 50,000 messages of
type-1 first loaded into the queue. Then I had 100 messages of type-2 loaded on to the
    queue.
At this point, I issued a conditional dequeue that skipped type-1 messages and only
asked for type-2 messages. I saw the full table scan.
Then I created another test case 1 million type-1 messages had to be skipped.
Still full table scans. I am not convinced that the doing full table scans is the best query
plan out there. Cost Based Optimizer tends to disagree for some reason. May be
it is right; But I have to avoid FTS when possible. As you know, not only blocks
used by the existing rows in the table get scanned, but also every block until the
    high water mark level.
One might say for a table with volatile data that comes and goes on a daily basis, million is an extreme case. Howvere, I am building a general purpose infrastructure based
on AQ and cannot rule out consumers who misbehave.
Are there better ways to handle multiple types of consumers on a single physical queue ? I need to be able dequeue specific consumer types if necessary, and this has to be
    done in a performant manner.
Other alternatives I can think are
    1. Using a multi consumer queue such that there is one subscriber for each message
type. Use multiple agent sets in a listen method to listen to messages and then
control what agents we pass into listen method.
    Any pattern suggestions welcome.
    Thanks

  • Does 2012 mac mini get very hot when using logic pro

does 2012 mac mini get very hot when using logic pro

Are you saying that your machine does or is it an enquiry before buying ? I use a 2011 server model - well, it does get hot over a period of time, but I've very rarely heard the fan kick in, its a surprise when it does. As far as I know the casing has been specifically designed to conduct heat, rather than having any fancy grilles and so on, being so small in size. I haven't found it to be cause for concern, if that's any help.

  • I have been taking photos for years and have thousands.  When I use Apple TV screen saver, it seems only to grab a handfull and repeats them.  Is there a configuration setting that will allow me to have the screen saver grab more than just a few?  Thanks.

The device has an 8GB drive for caching streamed meida, a small portion of that is used to temporarily store photos for the screensaver. It may vary depending on resolution etc but it seems to be around 100.

  • Does my Mac have a DVD player?

Does my computer have a DVD player?

    Lobes72 wrote:
We just bought this 2 weeks ago and there is no opening for a DVD??
That is correct, in 2012 Apple ceased including a DVD drive in iMacs. There are external solutions, you can locate a USB external DVD drive that is compatible with OS X from multiple sources including Amazon and OWC (www.macsales.com). Apple also sells their own external DVD drive, in the USA online store the link is:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD564ZM/A/apple-usb-superdrive?fnode=5f
The price of Apple's is kind of expensive however it is designed to match the esthetics of Apple computers so it looks good.

  • What does the Mac Pro do? and who uses it?

Hey guys, I want to know What does the Mac Pro does and which type of people use it.

To add a slightly less technical perspective, I bought a new Mac Pro because it fits my preferred working style rather than because I need its specific computing power (And also because my 2008 MP crapped out and I got tired of fixing it).
When my old Mac Pro died, I ran out and bought a Macbook Pro Retina and used it as my desktop while waiting for the new cylinder MP. The MBPr was stunning and performed like a champ. However, I was reluctant to use it as a laptop (i.e., travel with it) since it was my sole platform for client work and I didn't want to jeopardize my ability to work/deliver should something nasty happen on the road.
So maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, but I like to have a desktop mac for my primary workstation (I'm a graphic designer and photographer) and a laptop for the road. I use a high-end, wide spectrum monitor for color critical work, so while it's true that an iMac would have the power to run the stuff I need, I prefer to have options with my monitor.
Again, just another perspective that might factor into a purchase decision. How do you like to work and what works best for your situation? It isn't always mandatory to have the fastest and latest (unless, as in my case, it falls into your established criteria/working style).

  • HT202157 Does anyone else have a problem with the latest Apple TV update?  My Apple TV no longer can load movies from my iTunes library, including ones I've already watched or were watching.  Can I roll back this update, and if so, how?

After updating my Apple TV, it will no longer load movies from my iTunes library.  Music works, but no movies.  I've turned this puppy every which way but loose, but no joy.  Is there a way to roll back an update?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Does your iPhone have to be unboxed at a Apple retail store?

I was just wondering if you bought a iPhone 5s with a carrier, would you have to get unboxed at that Apple store or can you take it home still boxed and wrapped up?

    bpatel095 wrote:
yes, in order for them to insert the sim card, but im sure you can ask them to just give you the sim in your hand and say youll put it in later.
Carrier phones have the SIM pre-installed.  Insertion of SIM is not a reason to unbox the iPhone and the buyer has no need for SIM in hand.
Most users (experienced or not) can activate and configure their own device by following the instructions on the device.

  • Does the Mac have a registry?

In Windows, when you uninstall a program, it leaves various dll and registry entries. What about a Mac?
There are various software programs in Windows that claim to be able to clean up registry entries from uninstall procedures. Can you buy such programs for the Mac?

Simple answer..... no... Mac OS X is not Windows!
The applications are self contained (you can right mouse click on them and "show content" to see what makes up the said application.
This does have a MAJOR advantage over Windows, it means that your system will ALWAYS be lighting fast no matter how many apps you have!
There are some residual data left behind after you simple drag the application to the trash to delete, in your <home>Library-Application Support-<application>... This is to keep certain info by some apps... ok to delete as well.
If this is helpful, click on "Helped" or "Solved"
    Have fun deleting your apps!

  • Why does my Mac have so many updates?

My Mac constantly needs updating. It reminds me like everyday that it needs an update and then I'll update it and then a few days later it needs another update! This is really frustrating because my internet is too slow to update it all the time. Why does it do this?

If the update hasn't been applied, it will probably remind you until it's been applied. It will probably remind you at least as often as it is set to. You can use the Software Update system preference to turn off automatic updating.
Why would the system nag you often about an update? Because updates contain bug fixes, and it's good to have the latest fixes. On top of that, software updates contain security fixes, and Apple is very interested in making sure all users have the latest patches for any security holes that have been discovered since the last update. Because as you know, malware and security problems can cause you major problems if they are not blocked by the system. And as far as Apple is concerned they do not want any security problems to end up in the news if thousands of users were to be affected. So they issue fixes as soon as they can.
