Does my Mac Pro have no Airport at all?
Hey people,
Just recently bought a new Mac Pro - Quad Core one - it's great!
However, does it not have airport at all? I didn't click the Airport Extreme option, but I thought there would be something in it. When I bought a G5 (three years ago) I didn't select an Airport option, but had it installed anyway. Here, I assumed the same.
My next question is, can I simply use the Airport Enabler option? Or do I need to purchase the Airport extreme card?
OR...can I take the card, assuming I have it, out of my G5?
Any thoughts, guys?
Primarily I just echo the others. It could invalidate your warranty if you install it yourself. That said look on these forums for postings on installing. There will also be links to other sources. I recall one hat gave some good pictures. The problem seems to be varying advice on which of several particular spare wires you use and which one is left for bluetooth. So you could proceed on bad advice by chance. Further it still seems to me to be not the easiest task, though you may be nimble.
My advice would be to check up with your nearest authorised repairer on the costs. If it is not too much give the job to him. He will also be able to get the NCard. Mine was pre ordered. Get it in then you have it. The other option which I don't recommend though there is no problem with it, is to get an adaptor to put a card slot on per a usb or fire wire port. Put into that slot one of the N cards that exist. I have an Edimax card on a Powerbook G4 and one on a Powerbook Titanium though they are per a built in slot. Neither have any built in N capability.

I bought a Power Mac G4 (version=3.3) second hand from my company. It is running Mac OS 10.2.8 and Microsoft Office X. I wish to connect it to my BT broadband hub. However, it does not appear to have an AirPort card and even if it did I was told that the BT hub mainly works with microsoft rather than apple products. Can anyone advise me how I can connect and what products I need to buy?
Many thanksJohn Galt wrote:
These are readily available on eBay etc. and are not expensive.
See http://www.airportcardsdirect.com/ these cards are cheap and not sold via DOA-Bay.
John Galt wrote:
The PowerMac3,3 uses the original AirPort 802.11b card. It may also need a card adapter to enable it to mate with the internal connections - I'd have to check on that.
Not true. Those adaptors were intended for the iMac G3 (long outdated) and only the iMac G3. All G4 machines just take AP Cards the way they are.

You should also look into upgrading it to OS X "Tiger" but make sure you get the original retail install CD. It will be black with a large "X". Grey discs are machine specific and will not work.
Actually I HIGHLY recommend upgrading to OS X Leopard. Tiger is no longer supported by hardly anybody (Apple, Adobe, etc) and Leopard is still the minimum for most things nowadays. If you want more life out of this Mac, then I would highly recommend installing Leopard. And as mentioned above you NEED a Retail DVD. (The Leopard DVD has a little Purple in the Center of the DVD and a BLACK X in the center. -
Does the 2012 Mac Pro have 2 CPU socket always? If I buy one CPU setup, can I upgrade it later to 2 CPU?
If money is no object, OWC will swap 2010 or 2012 Processor shelves for whatever you want as long as you have a working Mac Pro 5,1 shelf to swap and a ton of money.

The basic charge is US$949 starting from the 2.8 Quad.
• to move up to the 3.33 hex add US$550 to the base price for a total of about US$1500.
• to move to dual Quads or dual hex ADD $1470 to $4250 to the base price. -
why does my mac pro gets extrwhy does my mac pro gets extremly hot about 20 min or so that im on and freezes about a 1 hour that im on then i have to power off etc can u help me pls
You can find out what processes are loading your system by running Application Monitor (in Launchpad > Utilities if you're running Lion or Launchpad > Other under Mountain Lion). Select "All Processes". Sort the display by CPU% (click on the label of that column). What processes show over 10% CPU?
Also, when you click on the CPU button on the lower bar, what shows as your % idle? (Mine is showing about 98% just reading and posting here.)
If no process is causing the heat, you could have a hardware problem. -
Does the Macbook Pro have a program to run Windows built in? If not, what is the best program to do so. Purchasing a new Mac.
No. The Mac does not have anything to run Windows
You must install either virtualizrion software or use BootCamp to create a partition for Windows. Once you have done that then you must install Windows.

Does the macbook pro have a built-in dvd player?
This is the only new MBP you can purchase with an integral DVD drive at this time:

A retina MBP will require an external DVD drive.

Does the Mac Pro v1.1 support SATA II 6Gb/s?
Does the Mac Pro (late_2006) support SATA II 6Gb/s internal hard drives?
Of course not, not in the sense that 6G existed but you still can use any SATA II/III specification drive.
So yes they are supported in that sense.
Only limit is if you use current SSD you still get great IOPS and such just not the sustained writes.
NO Mac Pro actually has an SATA III port. And it is more about features and specs and all drives have to be backward compatible or drive vendors would be foolish and go out of business (not everyone can or wants or needs to upgrade their motherboard).
You can add PCIe SATA 6G such as CalDigit and others. -

Does running Mac Pro for many hours hurt it?
Hello,
I'm planning to run my MacPro for 8-10 hours a day and I was wondering does running the computer for many hours during the day is potentially dangerous for Mac Pro?No problem at all. However, under heavy usage you will find that it better to have enterprise class drives and a professional class UPS. The Mac Pro will actually have no problem with running 24/7/365.

What does the Mac Pro do? and who uses it?
Hey guys, I want to know What does the Mac Pro does and which type of people use it.
To add a slightly less technical perspective, I bought a new Mac Pro because it fits my preferred working style rather than because I need its specific computing power (And also because my 2008 MP crapped out and I got tired of fixing it).
When my old Mac Pro died, I ran out and bought a Macbook Pro Retina and used it as my desktop while waiting for the new cylinder MP. The MBPr was stunning and performed like a champ. However, I was reluctant to use it as a laptop (i.e., travel with it) since it was my sole platform for client work and I didn't want to jeopardize my ability to work/deliver should something nasty happen on the road.
So maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, but I like to have a desktop mac for my primary workstation (I'm a graphic designer and photographer) and a laptop for the road. I use a high-end, wide spectrum monitor for color critical work, so while it's true that an iMac would have the power to run the stuff I need, I prefer to have options with my monitor.
Again, just another perspective that might factor into a purchase decision. How do you like to work and what works best for your situation? It isn't always mandatory to have the fastest and latest (unless, as in my case, it falls into your established criteria/working style). -
Does the macbook pro have the capacity to print direct to blank cd?
does the macbook pro have the capacity to print directly to blank cd? If not- can you suggest an add-on product that will work with the mac pro?
Unless you have a printer that can feed and print on a physical CD then you cannot. This isn't a function of the computer. Printers can usually print onto labels of any sort, but not directly onto the disc itself.
