Does my MacBook have some sort of graphics lag?

Hey guys.
I've had my MacBook for two weeks now, and it’s been an "okay" experience. I detest the high-pitched sound it makes; it’s driving my crazy when I'm working on essays late at night. But alas, it’s not my primary annoyance.
Recently I've noticed horizontal lines running up the screen when the Flurry screen saver is running (Screen grab: http://img113.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture4jc0.png). This line runs up the screen every few seconds, and its really irritating. Presumably this is something to do with the MacBook graphics chip? I would really like to know if this problem occurs in other MacBooks or if I have some sort of defect in mine.
It also does the above when viewing iTunes visualisations in full screen.
Any thoughts/comments would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Chris.

Devin,
Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.
I did the test and got a score of 84 which seems to be pretty average for a MacBook, compared it to a few and the memory seemed to compare well to most MacBooks (Link: http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc1=188535&doc2=1)
Not really sure then - If your MacBook, and presumable others, struggle on it, then maybe it is just literally the chip working as hard as it can. I'm just trying to reassure my self that I don’t have a faulty unit.
On a side note, the high pitched sound on mine comes from the top left of the machine near power adapter connection - It exerts the high pitched noise whether or not it is plugged into the AC power. It's not so bad in the day, as I don't really hear it in louder surroundings, but at night it’s absolutely infuriating - I just run a few programs in the background and it fortunately stops. Certainly not ideal, I'll probably end up phoning Apple Care about it, as I'm sure it’s not an intended sound.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • How much ATI does a macbook have?

My child wants to get Team Fortress 2 but i heard it didn't work on his friends computer. How much ATI does a macbook have?

Acually I'm sort of right since AMD dropped the ATI name in Aug. 2010. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon And Apple didn't use them in MacBook Pros until 2011 http://support.apple.com/specs/#macbookpro
Current MacBooks use the NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory. They've used the Nvida since early 2009 http://support.apple.com/specs/#macbook

  • Does my Macbook have Keylights like the Macbook Pro does?

I was watching the Macbook Air guided tour, just to see if buying my Macbook was a waste of money if Apple released a better Macbook, but i still don't understand which is better (processing wise) because there is no really websites on it at the moment.
Any way if you can answer that then go ahead, but back on topic. I was watching the guided tour and i noticed the Apple guy (sorry, i forget his name) explained that just like the Macbook (I don't know if he said "Pro" or just a Macbook in general) the Air has a light sensor in it that can detect decreases in light (or increases in darkness, whichever works for you) and respond accordingly by turning on lights under the keys so that you can see them in a dark enviroment.
So i quickly shut off the lights too see if my Macbook did what the Macbook Air and Pro do, but nothing happened. So i fiddled around in keyboard and mouse settings and i couldn't find anything remotely close to lighting on my keyboard. So i started looking at the keys, and they appear to be grey letters, but maybe its just me because isn't there a possibility that they are clear and i am only seeing the darkness thats underneath them. So instead of getting all bent (because staring at a key for a couple minutes is really frustrating) i decided to come here and ask does my Macbook have keyboard lights that eluminate keys?

Thanks for the star. Still - it's a fairly minor thing. There needs to be some justification for the additional price of a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air.
Illuminated USB keyboards seem to be relatively inexpensive if you must have that feature.

    Hello 23435,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPhone was knocked out of your hand and now it displays blue and black colors on the display. It does sound like this iPhone may need to be evaluated for service. If you would like more information about this process, please refer to the attached web link below.

  • Does T61 models have some keyboard backlight or something similar?

    Hi
Thank you for reading my post.
Does T61 models have some keyboard backlight or something with light the keyboard when we are working in the dark?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sorry, no ThinkPad has a keyboard backlight
However, they do, with the exception of the tablets and SL series, have the famous ThinkLight  which you can turn on in the dark using the Fn + PgUp key combination.

Actually, after scouring the web, I see that RogueAmoeba also has a free utility called LineIn which simply sends the audio in to the audio out and doesn't interfere with other programs like iTunes!
On the other hand, after downloading and trying it, there is a noticeable latency between what goes in and what comes out.
The latency is in the computer, not the software. Most of the latency is in the A/D and D/A conversion.
You need to connect the analog input to the analog output directly to get zero latency.

I am so done with this.  8,000 songs on my iTunes app and now I only have 256 songs!!  I purchased a new computer and had backed up all my content onto an external hard drive.  When I downloaded the content onto the new computer, I was unable to access my music for 90 days!!  What a bunch of BS!  $8,000 down the drain, just like that.  This is ludicruis!  I have tried to contact support but they require some sort of serial number, don't have one, this is not an Apple computer.  So their support ***** as they only give you one option to contact them.  I still have my content on the back up but am afraid to re-download in fear I won't have access to the material for another 90 days!  Has anyone else had this problem?  I feel like I've been ripped off!
Oh, right, in order for me to post this message I had to select a community.  If I don't, it won't post it.  What a bunch of control freaks! I'm just going to select one to get this posted and hopefully, someone can help me.

  • Like many others, I`m a business man and in many ocasions I need to access xls files (Excel) but being able to change using macros like in simulators. I think apple should provide this in the iphone or maybe have some sort of app which we can use?

I am a business man, and in many times a need a very important tool which I think an iphone should have which is some sort of app which will allow you to make changes to any xls file(Excel file).
I find apps that allow me to see and open these files but do not allow changing numbers on files with Macros.
A example is when you have a xls file using macros like in a simulator.
You have to change the values according to different client and it just doesn`t allow you.
I think iphone is a very decent phone but I just think that apple should povide this option to all users which would definately be alot happier.
I work at a finance company and need to use finance simulators with Macros.
Can you have an app that allows me to do this?

Since Excel is a microsoft product, they would have to make the app.
"So why does apple even open these files when they belong to Microsoft?"
You prefer, since Apple does not make excel, that they not make it possible to even view an excel file?
    Odd take.  All or nothing?

  • Shouldn"t they have some sort of esearch warrant before they go in to my personal space and lock out my music??

I just downloaded 10.2.2 last night.  Before that I was having trouble with Itunes mixing up files - I'm pretty sure it happened when I downloaded new versions - it took me a while to notice something was wrong.  I would have duplicates of a lot of songs.  then I discovered they were not really duplicates - they were songs with some other name attached to it.  A techie advised me to turn off the library search in Options and that may have helped. I downloaded 10.2.2.  thinking it mighrt be better now but during installation part of the progress meter said something about scanning the library which made me go "Huh?" Now I find that large chunks of my library are simply not available to me to play, burn, or ??.  They are still listed in the library but I get a message that says  "...can't be located.."
The ones I can't acess are:  1)  an album that my daughter purchased on her computer.  I understand we can add each other to our accounts and that will help.  but 2)  I have a player that burns from vinyl or tapes to disc.  Some of those files - not all - are locked out, and 3)  an album I purchased online from a recording entity is locked out too.  I may have some bootleg files but they, and my old, out of copyright files, don;t seem to be affected.
What I tried:  re-opening the zip files I purchased in Windows Media and then importing them into itunes.  etc etc..  More back and forth stuff and I got them to actually play in itunes but when I tried to burn a cd for backup, they wouldn't burn - and now another song that I hadn't had trouble with before, wouldn't burn either.
I'm wondering what in the world kind of program writers are on this itunes thing.   It is squirrely beyond belief.  It appears that it might be some kind of misguided effort to police my music purchases.  I just hope I can somehow salvage my  LEGITIMATE music before the Igestapo takes it all away.

The ones I can't acess are:  1)  an album that my daughter purchased on her computer.  I understand we can add each other to our accounts and that will help.
Did you or your daughter copy that album to your computer from hers? If not, then it's not surprising you can't find it. You have to move tracks from computer to computer yourself.
    2)  I have a player that burns from vinyl or tapes to disc.  Some of those files - not all - are locked out
I have no idea what you mean by this. Can you please explain further?
an album I purchased online from a recording entity is locked out too.
From where did you purchase this album, what format it is, and what do you mean by "locked out"?
I can guarantee you that nothing sinister is going on. Apple hasn't reached into your computer and disabled anything. It's either a program error or, as seems to me more likely, a misunderstanding on your part about some issues and perhaps incompatibility between iTunes and the format of some other content you've acquired. If you'll please post back and provide more details, avoiding the unnecessary ranting and hyperbole, someone here can probably at least explain things it not help get them sorted.
    Regards.

  • Does the macbook have a cd drive?

I wanted to load some software on my daughter's new macbook while she is away and can't find a cd drive. i don't have it with me right now so don't know the model number or operating system, but do know that it cost $999 a few months ago. Thx.

MacBooks have media drives, yes. (MacBook Airs are the only models that don't.) It is located on the right side (facing the display). It's just a slot.

  • Why does my macbook have the gray screen when it starts up?

my macbook pro has just started doing this - i keep it plugged in most of the time, and this has never been a problem for my previous macbook or before with this macbook until recently. every time i shut my laptop, and then open it later, it brings me to the gray screen with a white bar that loads pretty quickly, and then it brings me to my password login page. however, it takes a little longer for my mouse/cursor to be functional at this screen. any idea why this is happening? i have never had it do this before so i am not sure what is going on because i haven't been doing anything differently.

Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->

  • Does Apple have some sort of Trade-In program at any of their local stores?

I bought a Mid-2010 27 in. iMac from a producer friend of mine, it has the newest OS X, a 2TB hard drive and 16 GB of RAM. I'm wondering if I could go to one of their local stores and put my current iMac towards a newer model.
If anybody has the answer please let me know.
    Thanks everybody!

No, Apple do not do part exchange. You can sell your iMac on eBay and put the money towards a newer one.
