Does my new flat have a phone line?

Is there a way BT can check whether:
- there is/has been a phone line to my flat - cannot find box outside
- if it is still active

Are you trying to place an order with BT, or another service provider, as its Openreach that manage the connections, not BT?
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • Can you have two phone lines?

I was just wondering if you can have two phone lines going to the same house one for home and one for business?
If yes how would they do it? Just connect another line from the telephone graph to the house?
    Many Thanks Luke

You can have as many phone lines to your house as you like: each pays rental.
I work from home so have two.
One is for phone calls only, t'other has my broadband and BTV on it.
The phone calls only has unlimited 24/7 calls; the second comes with after 1900-0700 and free weekend calls.
Shame BT are phasing out BT BB Talk; under that regime every customer has two phone number/lines on one copper/fibre connection

FWIW, from my experience I was not able to get this to work.  When I conected a second bluetooth audio device the first device disconnected.

  • What exactly does a new poster have to do to get permission to post images?

Recently there was a forum update that disabled new posters to add images
(AND links?) Supposedly this was to reduce spam. So far so good.
Not surprisingly, immediately after the update we have numerous posts in the Forums Issues forum complaining about this feature and no doubt plenty of users just submitting to this policy in silence.
This whole feature is a SEVERE (that's right. bold AND in caps) hindrance. I don't have the stats, but I'm sure a considerable percentage of
(non spam) original posts are from new users with no previous forum activity. Pictures are especially important in the Chart Control forum as visualization is what charting is all about.
(This is the forum I frequent. So yes, I'm biased.)
Ofcourse, I'm sure the forum developers have weighed the pros and cons and studied the stats and then decided what to do after serious consideration...
The question is: What exactly does a new poster have to do to get permission to post images? Wait for how long? Reply to a confirmation email? "Participate" more?
(Say it ain't so.) How much more?
If there really is a workaround by adding an image tag with the edit html button, I don't want to hear it. It's as silly a way to add images as in the before times, the long long ago.
(Also, if this is possible, this whole restriction feature is actually worse than useless. Spammers will exploit this sooner than later. (A very good point made by our dear friend Quincy in a post that has since been deleted it
    seems.))

I believe answering that question defeats the purpose of having the "feature".
    I suspected as much.
I was hoping to add some explanation to the chart forum FAQ, I guess "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account."
(if this really is the only message new posters get) will have to do.
I still feel this is more of a hindrance to the quality of the forums than not. As confirmed it seems by Naomi, spammers already have a workaround.
Sipla, it sounds like we should add this FAQ to this article:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7359.forums-help-faq-en-us.aspx
    What do you suggest?
What does the message say to the user who cannot post links and images yet? We should map to that language.
    Thanks!

It says "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account."
If this means you will get a verify email, then you should get a verify email.  The message infers that either action will be taken by the forum mods that will be apparent to the user or that the user needs to take some sort of action.
If this is not the case, the wording needs to be changed; it should not mislead you.  This is an incredibly vague status message.
I do not have any record of a verify email in my inbox history.  All I have is an email this morning from MSDN Site Support (I also posted a request yesterday in MSDN Site Feedback) asking me which account I needed verified.  I only have one account.
Almost immediately after I replied, I was able to post links and photos.  Honestly I do not know which came first though, the "verification" or my reply to the email or someone noticing the thread about compaining about it a month after signing up.

  • Is it possible to have a phone line connected to a Mac Mini (OS X10.8.2) so you can use your computer with Parallels (Windows xp) to dial into a modem to download data being collected and stored at the remote location?

Is it possible to have a phone line connected to a Mac Mini (OS X10.8.2) so you can use your computer with Parallels (Windows xp) to dial into a modem to download data being collected and stored at the remote location?

Hi, do you mean a real Dial-up Modem as in the old days?
As I recall, the Apple USB Modem won't work in 64 bit OSes, but there are others that will, I think this is one of them...

Or is the Modem on the other end Cable/DSL/FiberOptic?

Do you have an active data connection (wifi or cellular)? Have you tried resetting the phone by pressing and holding the Home and power buttons until the apple appears (this is different than just turning it off and back on).

I do not really know but try a Reset  [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release].

  • Does The New iPad have GPS receiver? Can I use it as car GPS navigate?

Hi, Does the New iPad have GPS receiver include as hardware? Can I use it as car GPS navigate?

If you get the WIFi+Cell model of iPad, then it does have GPS. You can use it for navigation if you purchase an app that provides downloadable maps. The built-in Maps app can work for navigation, but it doesn't provide turn-by-turn and requires an Internet connection to function and so usually isn't practical for in-car use.
    Regards.

  • Move to a new flat - problems activating a line

    Hi there,
I have just moved to a new rented flat and am trying to set up all the utilities. I have a BT socket in the wall and when I plug a phone in it I actually get a dial tone.
I dialed 170170 and got the phone number of the line, I also get the options you usually get if it is a BT line.
I am trying to activate the phone line but BT are saying that even though I get a dial tone I still need to pay a conection fee because the line is disconnected at the exchange???
I dont really undrestand that. How can I get a dial tone and actually get the phone number if the line is disconnected according to them?
Can anyone give me some advice? They are asking for the usual £127 connection fee which I am obviously trying to avoid.
    Many thanks in advance!

When I simply ask what time it is please do not send me instructions on how to make a watch. I still can not find the calender file. This should be as simple as: Thunderbird stores the calender files as c:/....../ ..

  • Does the IPhone 3G support multiple phone lines?

Looking into purchasing the iphone 3G - does the 3G support multiple Phone lines or numbers? Such as a business and personal number?

You should probably call and ask AT&T, as that would be something that would need to be configured on their end.

  • 4 engineers still have unusable phone line

Cutting a really long story short.
Two years I've had a crackling phone line, it disconnects the broadband and it gets worse during damp or raining conditions.
I have had four different engineers all say they did something but it comes back within hours.
I rely on my phone line because I am severely disabled paralysed from the chest down and have an emergency condition which I need to keep in touch with my carers. Currently relying on mobile, but this is unacceptable as signal is getting worse.
Don't like using the disabled card.
Here is what my phoneline sounds like and this is not a bad day. I'm just fed up with it.

Does the new iMac come with a DVD drive

Forget the Apple external optical drive.
It is the same one they used to install in iMacs.
It is still a cheap unit, not great on longevity, prone to premature failure and it is waay overpriced!

Yes, both the iPad 2 and the new iPad have front and back facing cameras and they have the FaceTime app (unless you buy from UAE or Saudi Arabia where there FaceTime is no FaceTime app).
