Does my phone have to be connected to the internet for the find my iphone app to work?

it claims on the apple website that you can see a satellite map and everything from your computer just as if you were using another iphone to try and find your own phone through the find my iphone app,i signed into icloud through my computer but it says it cant find my phone because its offline,im 98% sure the find my iphone app is activated on my phone right now,so does that mean my phone has to actually be connected to internet to be found because that would be stupid..

Yes, The phone needs an active data connection, either through WiFi or Cellular data.

  • My OSX10.6.8 only connects to the internet for 5 second intervals??  Modem works fine (husband is not having problem on other computer), restarting doesn't work.  Can browse web just fine for 5 seconds until it disconnects.  Help??

I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8, but this problem has occurred also while I was running OSX 10.5.  This problem happens about once every two or three months, but seems to occur randomly.  When I try to connect to a wifi network on this computer, it will only connect for approx. 5 seconds before disconnecting, either telling me the password is wrong (which it is not) or a "connection timeout" message.  During this 5 second window, I can access the internet just fine until it disconnects me.  I don't understand why it is doing this.  My router/modem is working fine, my husband is using our other computer without problem.  In the past, restarting my computer a few times seems to do the trick.  But at the time of my typing this, it has not made any difference.  I am currently connected via an ethernet cable, but I would like to go back to being wireless.  Any advice for me?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I probably can't help much, but I have occasionally had the same problem. You might try going to System Preferences>Network and look at your Airport connection. See if the diagnostics can help.
    Good luck!

  • Connecting to the internet for the first time

i have a new macbook, and i dont have a clue how to connect it to wireless networks. I dont even know what equipment you need. I have attempted to connect it to the house wireless network, and while it connects, the internet does not work on it. I need basic instructions on what i need- do i need a wireless card or base station?? help would be very much appreciated.

If the macbook "sees" the network, but doesn't connect it's probably a security related issue.
Click on the blue apple in the upper left hand corner of your screen, then select "System Preferences", then select "Network".
In the list you should see "Built-in Ethernet", "Airport", and "Built-in Firewire". Select "Airport" and click on the Configure button.
You should see your network name (called an SSID) listed in your Preferred Networks. Click the name, the click the Edit button. This is where you would setup your security to match what your wireless router is using.
You may also need to include the MAC address in the router to allow the computer to speak to it - in Apple speak this is listed as the Airport ID which is above the list of networks.

  • Why does my phone have to vibrate twice when I plug in the charger

I have had an iphone 5 for about a year now and I am very disappointed with Apple and will be changing to a different phone as soon as I can. The fact that apple makes the phone vibrate twice when I plug in a third party charger is obsurd. The apple charger is much worse and breaks sooner than the thrid party charger, but since apple want to make money they are forcing a notification that says this charger may not work properly (actually works better than apples charger) and causes the double vibrate.
They also failed in reconizing a computer, as I have to verify that I trust my home computer everytime I plug it in, also causing a double vibrate. It can't remeber that it has been plugged into this computer many times?
Very disapointed in apples ability to live up to the high end cost of their devices and I will definetly be switching to a different device (which has also made me decide to not buy other apple products)
It would be nice if they would address this problem as it affects every iphone and is a huge negative to ergonomics and functionality of the product.

  • Why does my phone keep popping up messages "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iphone" when there is no cable connected?

Why does my phone keep popping up messages "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iphone" when there is no cable connected? This has been happening since IOS7 was installed and has become worse with 7.1. I have reset the phone several times with no change. The phone charges properly & I have never used anything but an Apple Lightning cable.

I already cleaned the port with compressed air before submitting the problem. I since cleaned it with a toothpick and dug out some more lint. this seems to have just about fixed the problem since I have only had the error pop up 3 times since then and i was getting the error constantly before.

My iphone4s does not turn on,when I connect to power ,it shows the message "connect to itunes" but when I connect to iTunes,my pc does not detect my phone,so iTunes does not detect my iPhone.

Are you running the most recent version of iTunes for Windows on your PC?  You may be running an older version that is incompatible with the 4s.
    Hope this helps

My westel modem (that I rent from my phone provider) quit working with the internet.  My airport extreme seems to be working from the dsl (phone) connection through the westel, then through the ethernet cabled to the airport extreme.  Do I need the modem?  Is the ethernet route less efficent that going throught the internet connection?  If I don't need the westel modem; how do I make the dsl conection to the pone port in the wall?  Thanks for help on this!

Ok, so are you saying that your Internet is or isn't working?  Does it work if you plug your computer directly into your computer and bypass the router (make sure you power cycle the modem when you do this)?  If it is working this way, then a new modem isn't going to solve a problem with your Internet not working.  If it is going slow (try running a speedtest) then you need to call your phone company to have them take a look at why your Internet is slow.  If it runs fine this way and then slows back down when you go back through your router there is something else going on.  Try unplugging both the modem and the router, let the modem fully sign back in and connect to the Internet, after it gets signed in, plug your router in, and then after it boots up fully, try running the speedtest again...See if that helps any?  Sometimes it's just an IP conflict that happens when the dynamic IP that is assigned by your Internet Service Provider changes and the change doesn't flow smoothly.
