"Does not allow relaying"

I have just started to get a message saying "Does not allow relaying" when I try to send an email. This has not been a problem before and I don't know how to resolve it. Can anyone help me please?

If so many, if not all, ISPs block sending email using SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) servers that are not theirs. The solution, if your personal ISP provides this, is to use both SMTP Authentication (SMTP Auth) and/or an alternate port. See this example of how I have my iPod Touch (4G) setup to use both with my normal Cox HSI ISP SMTP email server.

This configuration allows me to send email while connected to any ISP when I travel around town or the country using Cox HSI email servers.
If your ISP does not provide either SMTP Auth and/or an alternate SMTP Port then you could...
* Setup and use a Gmail (free) account (or similar account) that provides this...
* Use webmail from your ISP...

    Your email provider has blocked the standard mail port 25 for sending emails and is requiring a different port. This is to avoid mail relays that use mail clients to send spam. You need to find the port that is used by your provider for sending outgoing mail. Then change the settings in your email account on your phone to match the port. You will also have to provide some security credentials for the account.
    You can also try deleting the email account from your iphone, and the adding the email account back as this will many times set the correct port for sending emails.
    You could also do a Google search on the the settings for your device with your email provider. That will provide you with the proper settings.

    On the email account's settings (Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and tapping on the account on the right), go into it's outgoing SMTP settings and try putting in your email name and password (they might currently show as 'optional')

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
    The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
    The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
    Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
    Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
    Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

    The issue definitely sounds like your Outgoing/SMTP settings need to be changed.  Simply set them to the proper settings for your provider as was suggested above.

    The SMTP settings can be edited on the iPad/iPhone by going to Settings--> Mail, Contacts, Calendars, edit the account having trouble, click the Account, then at the bottom is the SMTP server info, click on it to edit it further.
    It should allow you to edit the primary smtp server and let you enter all the good stuff as you see in the Knology link above.
    Some providers require you to register your account on their service like AT&T.

    Try going into the account's outgoing SMTP server settings, and if they are not already filled in add your account id and password to the outgoing settings : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then select the account the account on the right-hand side and go onto into it's SMTP server settings

    From which account does the email not send?  When sending from an account, the iPad will first try to use the aoutgoing server for that account.  If it can't it will try the other accounts listed.in the setting on the iPad for that account.  It soulds like the server for the account is not working and that the alternate server is resjecting the messag since it did not originate ffrom the account associated with that server,  That is to prevent sending spam.

    I recently had to reset everything on my iPad due to iOS 6 upgrade. Now when I try to reply or forward emails from my preferred account (not iCloud ), I receive a note indicating the message could not be sent because the server does not allow relaying. What can I do?

    It happens when I try to reply or forward to anyone.
    I read another discussion string on this and someone indicated to turn off authentication. Mine wasn't on so that was not the problem. However, I selected Authentication to see what was behind it and  mistakenly touched one of the authentication types. Now it will not let me un-select it.
    So now I have two problems. Can u help please???

    Hi, I've suddenly encountered this problem.  I have a 1st gen iPad.  I've reset, deleted, re-added, turned on both outgoing servers, added my password--this last doesn't stay in the primary outgoing server field; when I go back in, the password field is filled with the (optional) text again and when I 'click' into the authentication box, the password is no longer checked.  However, these are all filled in the secondary outgoing server, so it shouldn't matter.  Restarted the iPad a couple times.  Using system 5.1.1--I think that's as far as I can go.  Any miracles out there?
