Does he not need tools like XDCAM transfer (or XDCAM browser) from Sony ?
midnightraj said he had converted the mp4 movie to mov, and that this mov file played (albeit dropping frames) inside FCP X, so my perspective was in working with content thas was already inside FCP X.
I have no specific knowledge of xdcam, and it may well be that using the xdcam transfer tool is the best choice.

    Depends of the specific kind of file you are trying to play. MOV refers to the file container. Any data compatible with the system used to create the file can be placed in an MOV file. If you don't have the same codecs available on your computer to play back the file or if your version of the QT player does not expect expect the encoded data to be in an MOV file container, then it cannot/will not play the file. Use the Finder Info window, media player Inspector/Information window, or a dedicated utility to determine what compression formats were used to create the MOV file and then install the required codec(s) if available.

    I may have found an answer here:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive
    They only thing I can assume is that my external hard drive was slow to start and iTunes defaulted to its old directory (see the last paragraph at the link above). However, once my external was recognized shouldn't everything have fixed itself?

  • Quicktime will not play .mov files since Lion installation

    When using Quicktime 10.6, I am receiving the error message "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." when attempting to open .mov files.  Prior to installing OS X Lion, there were no issues with playing .mov files.

    I'm having the same problem. Using a clean install of Mac OS X (10.7) Lion and QuickTime 10.1.
    If I go to finder:
    I can click on Icon's Play arrow and the Movie will play in the icon.
    I can click on the file icon and press the spacebar and the file will play in QuickLook.
    If I doubleclick on the icon to open the file in QuickTime, I get the "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." message.
    If I right click on the icon and click open with... QuickTime, I get the "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." message.

  • Safari does not play movie stream

    Does anyone have any idea why Safari does not play the movies on the web page
    http://www.3sat.de/delta/
    You can find them under "Web-TV" (you have to click a little bit until a small window opens which has a button called "video starten" at the bottom right).
    I believe the movies are reaplayer video streams.
    Needless to say that the movies work just fine in Firefox ...
    Any ideas, hints, pointers will be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Gabriel.

    it also has the option to open in WMP.

    Safari is also picky about code, this one is not the poorest & it does work for me so it seems something is interfering in your user account or computer,.
    Have you tried the site in a test account if not that would be telling.

  • Quicktime not playing .mov files

    i have a problem with quicktime. it doesn't play .mov files. if i try to play .mov files that are embedded in a .pdf file, a window opens but stays blank, although the progress bar moves. if i try to open the files in quicktime, there's no window, just the progress bar that moves. i run the latest version. i've already tried reinstalling - didn't help, uninstalling completely and installing - didn't help.
    help?
    many thanks!
    diana

    Quicktime>Quicktime Player Preferences>Advanced
    Click on the MIME Settings button.
    In the next window that opens up make sure that Streaming-Streaming movies is enabled (checked).
    While you’re at it make sure all the boxes are enabled by clicking on the corresponding triangles so that they are pointed down.
    This will show the “hidden” boxes especially the *QuickTime Movie* box. This box will enable you to play .mov files.
    Click the OK button.

  • AppleTV Not playing .Mov files that will play in iTunes

    After Major Hard Disc issues I had to use a Data Rescue II to retrieve the files.
    All seems fine now except Data Recover II converted all of the m4v to mov files?
    They play fine from iTunes, but apple tv does is giving me an error that file format is not recognized or it just does not load...
    File Details are as follows:
    Kind: QuickTime Movie File
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Bit Rate: 158 kbps
    Video Dimesions:1280x720
    Video Codec: h.264
    Thanks in advance peeps!

    what's the framrate?
    bear in mind that just because something is in itunes, does not mean it is appletv compatible.
    also, have you tried simply changing the extension back to .m4v ?

  • Quicktime 7.3.1 Player, Does not play movies locally on Vista.

    Interesting and frustrating problem. My QT player plays movies from web browser but will not play them locally. Windows Vista Business, 32 bit OS, QT pro will play the first 5 to 9 seconds of a movie then hang the system. Then I can not shut down QT player, without Ctrl, Alt Del. Local .mov files I am trying to play are only 4 to 15 MB. Is this an issue with Vista? Or the latest QT player? Or is it the latest Direct X? Or is it the latest driver update for my video card ATI Fire GL V7200 - the latest catalyst control center SW? All drivers and SW have been recently updated to latest. I tried changing the Advanced Video settings in the QT player, "Safe Mode GDI only" vs Direct X settings? Nothing changes the fact that I just can NOT play any .mov movies locally. I'm calling Adobe tomorrow. Am I the only here with these problems?

    +I was just wondering if perhaps the RAID was affecting it somehow? My system is setup to store all Files on a data partition with Raid 1 setup.+
    Older versions of the Intel Matrix Storage Managers (and associated drivers) could cause similar issues in RAID setups. Seen a few of them fixed by upgrading them.
    However, having taken a look at your dowwnloads page for the wx8400, it's not clear to me whether or not you've got an Intel Matrix on the PC.
    ... One thing that did come up was the following document:
    HP xw4400, xw6400, xw8400 Workstations, and HP Proliant xw460c Blade Workstation - SYSTEM BIOS UPGRADE REQUIRED; Certain Intel Processors May Cause Unpredictable System Behavior
    So it may be worth checking to see if your BIOS is up to date, first.
    Here's a link through to the relevant xw8400 downloads page:
    Download drivers and software: HP xw8400 Workstation (Vista 32-bit)
    Was your BIOS at 2.18 or higher? If not, does an upgrade assist with the QuickTime behavior?
    +Not sure what readyboost is?+

  • IPhoto 9.6 Does Not Recognize .MOV files!!! - HELP!

    Re: iphoto won’t import mov video
    in response to léonie
    I just read the thread to which léonie pointed. (Thanks!)
    In System>Library>Caches, I had a file named "com.apple.xpchelper.cache". That file showed a modification date of yesterday -- I don't know what changes this file. Quite likely it was the install of 10.9.5 that I did yesterday.
    Now, I was lucky enough to have a clone of my system from 3-4 days ago. I copied the older (cloned) version of this file, which itself had a modification date of about a month ago - to the working system. (I first renamed the current "com.apple.xpchelper.cache" to be safe.)
    Then, I restarted ... and everything works like before! All movies play, and I can import.
    I am not sure at all why this happened or why the above has fixed things for me, but it seems it has!
    I am very happy to have fixed this issue without having to do a system recovery, which always has hitches here and there, and takes a decent chunk of time no matter how "backed up" you are.

  • IPhoto does not play movies from digital camera

    When transfering photos and movies to iPhoto, the movies are not playing in iPhoto.
    Error message:
    THE MOVIE CAN'T BE OPEN. YOU MAY NEED TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE TO PLAY THIS KIND OF FILE
    I am using iPhoto '09 v8.1.2 and QuickTime Player 10.0 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3
    I deleted QuickTime 7 Pro after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
    My digital camera is a Pentax Optio S6 that creates movies in the MPEG-4 format. The ending of the movie file after transfer to the Mac is .avi
    What Codec do I need? Or should I reinstall QuickTime 7 Pro?

    Try install Perian

  • Mediaplayer does not play movie on XP, it does on Win7

    I have a Mediaplayer object in a Fx 2.1 beta application.
    It links to a MP4 movie and plays perfectly on my Win7 development laptop, but it fails to play ( white space ) on my target deployment XP machine.
    The MP4 plays on the XP box in Media Player, so it is not a codec issue ( I think ).
    Anyone ?

    I tried to use a WebView with a HTML embedding a video, that does not work either. I guess the JavaFx Webbrowser does not support <Embed>If the video plays in the JavaFX MediaPlayer it will also play inside a WebView, just use the html5 video tag rather than an embed tag.
    The following application will play a VP6 encoded FLV inside a WebView.
    import javafx.application.Application;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.web.WebView;
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    public class WebViewVideo extends Application {
      public static void main(String[] args) { Application.launch(args); }
      @Override public void start(Stage stage) {
        WebView root = new WebView();
        root.getEngine().loadContent(
          "<video width='320' height='240'controls='controls'>" +
            "<source src='http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/products/javafx/oow2010-2.flv'/>" +
          "</video>");
        stage.setScene(new Scene(root, 340, 260));
        stage.show();

  • IDVD version 7.0.3 (1110) does not support .mov files???

    After the last software update (01.26.09) I can't open my projects made with iDVD 7.0.2 just some days before the update. While opening an old project I receive system message about lost video files. When I try to drag this files manually, I receive message: Unsupported File Type: Broken Reference Movie in: 'name of my .mov file. Meanwhile, the files are on the same place as before.
    Is somebody here who have met this problem? What to do? How to come back to previous iDVD version?

    Yes iDvd does still supports .mov
    However, it's a QT Reference movie you are dealing with and anytime you move this file from it's original location you'll confuse iDvd. The solution is to re-establish the link so that it's no longer a broken link.
    iDvd should give the option via a dialog box to find that particular asset before it proceeds any futher. Is it not offering you this option?

  • Video does not play when imported from FCP

    When I import a clip from FCP into motion the clip opens up however only one frame shows up in the motion viewer. When I press play, there is no video..only that particular frame that was showing.
    The media tab shows the .mov file, and plays it in seperate window when i double click on it.
    Thanks for helping me out.

    How do you bring the file into Motion and what file are you actually opening in Motion?
    Are you exporting your FCP project as QT? or
    Are you sending your FCP project to Motion?
