Does OEM version of XP home work with BootCamp?

I've got an OEM version of Windows XP Home coming in tomorrow from NewEgg. Does anyone know if it will work with Boot Camp or do I need the full retail version?

There are full OEM versions, so if that is what you ordered you will be fine. The OEM version is intended to be sold by a PC maker and then installed on the PC he built. Usually, when you buy an OEM version the retailer will bundle it with a piece of cheap hardware (CD Rom audio cable) to comply with Microsoft's requirements.

  • Which Versions of VS Does Each Version of the SDK Work With?

The PAM only talks about the versions of the .NET Framework - not the versions of VS.  And there basically is no Developer Guide since sometime in early BI 4.0 that might have this info.
I have a client who is having issues with their BI 4.0 SP6 code after migrating from VS 2010 to VS 2013.  Based on conversations around which versions of Crystal for VS will work in which versions of VS, I'm almost certain that this version of the SDK is not supported in VS 2013.  But I'd like to have "official" documentation to show them and a URL I can point them to where they can get this information as new versions of VS come out.
    Thanks!

    Hi Dell
I can always count on you asking DE greatest of questions
The "party line" is; it is not the app you will be working in that is supported or not, it is the framework. Thus that BI 4.0 SDK for .NET will work in Delphi, or VS 2013 as long as these support the framework BI 4.0 works with (e.g.; 3.5 and 4.0). Now. Since the BI 4.x SDK is only to be used in managed applications, there is no craxddrt.dll version 14.x installed and thus no CR designer in the .NET IDE. I have never seen this documented in an official type of doc. However the BI 4.0 PAM says:
Contrast this with 'SAP Crystal Reports, Developer Version for Visual Studio .NET". As the install of this product does incorporate the craxddrt.dll into VS to give us the CR designer in the .NET IDE, there is a dependency on the correct version of VS (e.g.; SP 10 for VS 2013, SP 4(?) for VS 2012).
I suppose all of this boils down to; yes, migrating BI 4.0 SP6 code from VS 2010 to VS 2013 should work.

  • Will a DSP version of Windows XP work with Bootcamp?

Hi all. I am a semi-recent Mac convert. I have used Windows-based computers my entire life. I am an engineer and I use a lot of 3D modelling and FEA-analysis-type programs, all of which require a powerful computer and all of which are Windows-based. I bought a MacBook Pro with Tiger a couple months ago and will never go back to a PC for regular everyday computing. Very wonderful machine and well worth the money. I only wish now that I had waited for Leopard to come out so I would already have Bootcamp.
I now would like to upgrade to Leopard in order to get Bootcamp so I can set up a partition for XP. I realize that this requires a purchase of a full version of Windows and OS 10.5. I would like to purchase a full DSP version of XP Professional, since it is generally less expensive than OEM and has unlimited installation capability, rather than just a single license. DSP, from what I understand is supposed to be identical to the OEM version, minus a manual, a box, and tech support. I don't forsee a problem installing this on my Mac with Bootcamp, but I wanted to know if there's anyone else out there who has tried this and succeeded/failed at it before I start messing with my system. Remember, this is a full version of XP Professional that I'm referring to...it's just that it's a DSP version with a volume license, rather than OEM, with a single license. Thanks!

    James Bond 007,
Alright cool. Thanks for your help. My only prior experience with any operating system was with Windows. Buying a Mac has certainly shown me that I don't have to deal with regular system freezes and crashes as I did with Windows.
    Barlsaxshorty,
OEM stands for "Original Equipment Manufacturer". OEM versions are usually what comes preinstalled on a new computer. Like DSP (Delivery Service Partner) versions, they don't come with a box, a printed manual, and usually no tech support or rebates. This means the software can be sold for much much cheaper than retail versions.
As per James Bond 007's response, you will be able to install an OEM FULL version just fine. A full version means that you are installing a particular type of operating system (such as Windows) for the first time. An upgrade is only for owners of previous versions of that software line. For example, someone with Windows 2000 currently could buy an UPGRADE to Windows XP at a significantly lower price, which only includes those resources necessary to make the upgrade that the previous version didn't contain. A FULL version of Windows XP is what would be installed on a computer that did not previously have a version of Windows on it, such as a Mac. In order to run Mac OS 10.5 AND Windows XP through Bootcamp, you will need to purchase a FULL version, whether it's a retail, OEM, or DSP version.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

The version of the CR designer that the reports were created in is really not that important. Though more on that below. What you need is Crystal Reports XI R2A (11.5.x). That is the last version of CR to ship the Report Designer Component  (RDC) that you are presumably using at this time. Note that this version is out of support thus no fixes, no phone support, though we welcome your queries on these forums. To obtain CR XI R2A you will have to contact sales; 866-681-3435. Do not get CR 2008 (12.x) as this version does not ship the RDC and only has the SDK for .NET and Java.
Re. version of the reports. While the version of the designer the reports were created in should not be that important, the older the designer, the more potential problems you may run into. Updating the reports to CR XI R2A is highly advised. You can do this manually by simply opening the reports in the designer and saving them - making sure they still run once that is done. Alternatively, you can do this in code by simply using the .SaveAs method, or exporting to rpt file format. This may not however update the database connectivity correctly (the database engine was completely rewritten in CR 9) and testing will be needed to make sure these reports still work. This is particularly true of your version 8 reports. Version 9 reports and later should be OK.

  • What does HTML have over PDFs when working with data?

I'm doing some research for a client whose company is moving from PDFs to HTML for their in-house user interfaces.
What does HTML have over PDFs when working with data?
    Thanks!
    Luke

PDFs can indeed work with data and can be programmed with javascript. You can do some pretty interesting things with it. It is even possible to create interactive forms on the web using PDF, however it requires server-side support. As a general rule, though, PDFs are terrible as a web interface and it's far easier to work with HTML and PHP.
HTML is lightweight and PDF isn't (in case that seems like a small thing, it's actually a big negative for PDFs). The success of your PDFs will depend on the versions of acrobat your users use, and getting data in and out of the PDFs will require learning far more about Acrobat's FDF format and XML implementation than you may want to know.

  • Does the Pocket Projector by Brookstone work with the iphone 5?

Does the Pocket Projector by Brookstone work with the iphone 5 ?

I have the Brookstone DLP Pico projector. I purchased it from EBay not too long ago. It worked before with the previous version of Apples iOS. I would view netflix, youtube, and videos.. I have an iphone4.
Now with the latest update to ios7, tried it last evening with netflix and youtube, it does not work at all! This is rediculous, restricting access to something we had access to before

  • Why does my camera connection kit not work with my ipad 1 after updating on ios 5?

Why does my camera connection kit not work with my ipad 1 after updating on ios 5? What can I do to make it work again?

It should. It will only respond if there's something on the card for it to respond to, so do you have pics on the card?
And if it's messing up; try giving the iPad a restart. Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see hte red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again. That can clear up any glitches on the device itself.

    http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/
I'm pretty certain that I got my version of stuffit, which has worked excellently on my Intel MBP, from that site. I downloaded it around the time when I first got the laptop, so I'm pretty sure that's the site.
If it's not let me know and I can give you links to a different site, or I can just e-mail you the installer file directly.
If it doesn't work for any other reason, or does the encrypted thing that you stated, let me know I'll look into it.

  • I just downloaded Maverick on my Macbook Pro from 2011.  When I try to open iPhoto, it says that I have an old version that doesn't work with Maverick.  None of the solutions stated on this forum work for me, because there are no options displayed.

After downloading Maverick on the MacBook Pro that I bought in 2011, I am unable to open iPhoto. The message says "You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X.  You have "iPhoto" 9.2.3"  What???  That is ridiculous.  Why doesn't Maverick download everything?  I've tried the "fixes" I found on this forum, but none of them work for me, because there is no workaround via the library.  I can't access the library.

I have an old iPhoto version and it still works with Mavericks, the version before yours, that is puzzling.
