Does Oracle Lite support Oracle Spatial

Does anybody know whether Oracle Lite or Personal Oracle supports the Oracle Spatial plug-in. Also, for extra credit does anybody know what the difference between Personal Oracle and Oracle Lite is?
We will be needing to provide some attribute and spatial data from our Oracle Enterprise database to several laptops for field personnel using an electronic map we developed. We would like to use a portable version of Oracle that supports Oracle Spatial objects.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

oh, I didn't realize it was so limited. No, that won't do. We're looking for a "mini" version of the real production database including stored code, triggers etc. Should be scaled down enough to allow rapid syncing of data and schema changes from the production (or really QA) database, but full enough to include the objects necessary to allow the developers to test their code changes to the front end applicaiton on their own environment.

  • Anyone know when will Oracle VDI support Oracle VM Server x86?

    Hi there.
    Is there a roadmap or plan for Oracle VDI support Oracle VM server x86?
    I think we need enterprise class(type-1) hypervisor.
    DH,

    I dont think its in the roadmap because Oracle VM does not lend itself nicely to all the technology deeply embedded in Oracle VDI, namely, VRDP which is a proprietary remote desktop protocol Oracle VDI leverages to paint screens directly from a VirtualBox remote display session. The only thin Oracle VM (Xen) has close to this is the dated VNC protocol.
    We went down this road early on, expecting Oracle VDI to integrate, but the more we learn about how Oracle VDI does things, the more it doesn't make sense to adapt Oracle VM Server to do this.
    I don't know Oracles plans surrounding this (who does?) but it would seem it would take ALOT of work and redesign to make that happen, whereas they already acquired Oracle VDI (and VirtualBox) from their SUN acquisition.

  • Migration Oracle lite to Oracle XE

    Hi,
    Does anyone know a way for a migration from oracle lite to oracle xe? Does there anywhere exist tools for it?
    thanks & regards,
    Andreas

    I think that this is usefull feature for migration fom one Oracle version to other Oracle.
    For old Oracle 8i I'm used ODBCOraclizer to resolve this problem.
    But it is not works with XE correctly :(
    Thank you.

  • Does Studio Creator support Oracle ADF Faces and other components?

    Hi everyone
    According to:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/doc/faq.html
    "Although ADF Faces is "vanilla" JSF we have not been able to run with Java Studio Creator Build 04.06.2. We are working with Sun to resolve the issues in Java Studio Creator."
    Does anyone know if Oracle ADF faces now work with Studio Creator and if so which version.
    In addition I am also looking for JSF visualization components. In addition to advanced 3-D graphs (send as PNG to client) I am also looking for components to visualize the structure of a website. These all need to work with Studio Creator.

    Importing 3rd party libraries used to be complicated. The .complib stuff was added precisely to make it easy.
    It does make packaging slightly harder for third party -vendors-, since there's one extra step, but this makes everything easier for (the much larger number of) users of the third party components, since the packaging format specifies a bunch of stuff that we used to have to ask of users when trying to add the jar and associated metadata into the IDE.
    The complib stuff is documented, so if you're producing a 3rd party JSF library, or if you really want to use one that hasn't yet been packaged, you can do the steps yourself.
    See http://wiki.java.net/bin/view/People/EdwinGoei -- the first couple of links describes the process. Yes, we're working with third party vendors to get this done for their component sets, and yes, there's talk with other IDE vendors to standardize all this.

  • Does 9i Lite supports OID on it?

    Can any one please let me know is Oracle Internet Directory supported on Oracle 9i Lite DB?
    In fact we are planning to use the Branch Office version of 9i Lite and we want to store
    the Branch Office users credentials in the Branch Office server, this requires LDAP
    we can user other LDAP as well but if we can use OID that will be greate.
    As for as I know OID requires a full oracle 9i database, correct me if my assumption is wrong.
    Thank you
    H.M.Mallik

    Hi everyone. I've read in the documentation for 9i Lite both that 9i Application Server is a required component, and that 9i Lite can run without 9i Application Server (using the Web-To-Go component).
    As far as I can tell, the Web-To-Go component is only intended to work on laptops (as opposed to the PocketPC-based handhelds like the Compaq iPAQ). Can Web-To-Go be used to synchronize data between the main database and a handheld, or does 9i Lite need 9i Application Server to work with handhelds? The principal members of the 9i Lite environment are the Mobile Server (WebToGo & MGP) and Client ODB (erstwhile PoLite). 9iAS is NOT required for installation and use of 9i Lite ODB on any client. 9i Lite can run independently of any web based listeners and synchronization architecture.
    9i Lite ODB has two implementation modes in the 'Windows' world. First is WIN32, intended for Intel based PCs, Laptops, etc. Second is PocketPC (currently compatible with PPC 2002).
    The Mobile Server is comprised of the WebToGo and MGP, both are Windows based products. WebToGo is Oracle's implementation of Apache Web Server which is wrapped in Oracle APIs and functionality. We have tested WebTogo in Standalone mode and regularily synchronize between this and 9i based PocketPC clients. We do not use 9iAS nor do we use Apache independent of WebToGo.

  • Oracle Lite and Oracle 8i Client on Win98

    I've had Olite v8i running on my Win98 machine for a while now. I just installed Oracle 8i Client on my machine. Now, my JDBC driver for Oracle Lite does NOT work. What could have happened here??
    Thanks.

    HI Jeremy,
    I think, Your PATH was cranked up.
    The JDBC driver for OLite normally does not use any OCI DLLs, so that should not be the problem. As I said, the OLite dlls may be missing now from the PATH.
    Any error messages? "Does not work" is a bit... fuzzy.

  • Oracle Lite vs Oracle XE

    What's the different between "Oracle Lite Edition" and "Oracle Express Edition"?
    Please give me comparison table with Data Volume, Memory, No of users, License and other key features..

    They are two different code lines. Oracle Database XE is based on the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Code line and as such supports the SQL and PL/SQL dialects, and standard data types found in Oracle. Oracle Lite has a different code line, albeit with similar data types, similar SQL dialects, but no PL/SQL.
    Oracle Lite is a very small footprint database - around 6 Mb I believe. It runs on Windows/Linux and also some OS on smaller devices, such as phones and PDAs. Oracle Database XE has a larger footprint (considerably) and will not run on phones and PDAs.
    Oracle Lite is multi-user, but is mainly designed for disconnected mobile applications, where the device/machine synchronizes a subset of data with the main Oracle Database. Oracle XE is multi-user, and can also replicate data to and from a 'main' Oracle Database.
    Unfortunately I don't have time to get into a full feature by feature comparison. We will do soemthing like this for production however, as it's sure to be an FAQ. In the meantime, if you told us what your considerations are I could provide some insight into which would be the better solution.

  • Oracle Lite Support for Nokia E-Series (Symbian OS 9.2)

    Are there any plans to support the Nokia Enterprise Series of handsets running the Symbian OS 9.2 in the near future (i.e. E60/E61/E70).
    Thanks.

    Ciao
    all Nokia 3rd edition have Flash Lite 1.1 embedded so they
    currently do not support FL2.
    Nokia will release FL2 on the 3rd edition feature pack

  • Sql-92 syntax in Oracle Lite 8i

    The Oracle Lite documentation instructs the developer to enact this change to polite.ini to use sql-92 syntax:
    Running SQL-92 on Oracle Lite
    As mentioned in the preceding section,
    Oracle Lite uses Oracle SQL by default.
    However, if you want to support SQL-92 by
    default instead of Oracle SQL, you can
    change the SQL compatibility parameter in
    the POLITE.INI file to SQL-92. To change
    the parameter, add the following in the
    POLITE.INI file:
    SQLCOMPATIBILITY=SQL92
    See the Oracle Lite User's Guide for more
    information about the POLITE.INI file.
    However this does not appear to have any effect. For instance, this query in the polite sample database:
    select product.descrip,price.stdprice
    from product FULL OUTER JOIN price
    ON product.prodid = price.prodid;
    generates a syntax error:
    ERROR at line 1:
    OCA-30021: error preparing/executing SQL
    statement
    [POL-5228] syntax error
    Is there more steps needed to make Oracle 8i Lite SQL-92 Compatible???

  • Oracle Lite vs. Oracle 10g Express

    What is the difference between Oracle Lite and Oracle 10g Express Edition?
    Can an application written for oracle lite work out-of-the-box for the express edition?

    two completely different products. express is essentially the same as the server oracle database. same functionality, same sql and pl/sql support, same structure.
    olite is a different architecture in terms of data files, and the sql is slightly different, and does not support many new facilities. there is no pl/sql at all and performance/tuning is different.

  • Stream Corrupted Exception using ORACLE LITE 8i

    Our application on the client needs to insert word documents in the form of BLOBS in the ORACLE I LITE database.
    I am using the below JDBC driver to store and retrieve the BLOB from the database and i have the ODBC driver for the Oracle LITE installed on the machine.
    String jdbcURL = "jdbc:Polite:egcaspacclient";
    String uid = "system";
    String passwd = "***";
    String driver = "oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver";
    But i try to read the BLOB from the database i am getting a streamCorrupted exception while reading the StreamHeader. I am using ObjectInputStream and ObjectOutputStream to store and retrieve the BLOB information.
    I infact tried the same code with the ORACLE8i database and it is working.
    I read some documentation that Oracle LITE supports storing the BLOBS.
    I am wondering if anything wrong with the driver i am using.
    Also the datatype in the BLOB column of the database is showing as undefined. But i see some information is stored to that column when i insert the BLOB.
    I would appreciate if anybody provide with some clues.
    Thanks
    Surendra
