Does Oracle8 support catalogs

Question

I'm trying to use getCatalog() from jdbc to list catalogs. I am
using jdk1.7 from blackdown and jdbc drivers from Oracle. On
Linux i get a runtime error 'no suitable drivers'. If i use a
DOS window in Win95, i don't get any errors, but it comes back
saying 'the current active catalog name is null' and 'the
following catalogs are available in this database' followed by a
couple blank lines. I can make queries such as 'select
table_name from user_tables' and get the correct results, so i
know i am connected ok. I use "TABLE_CAT"
and "ALL_OBJECTS" trying to get a catalog name. Should I use
something else?
