The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

E4200 No Longer Sees My Iomega 1TB External Hard Drive

Hello - I had an Iomega 1TB External Hard Drive connected to my E4200 router. I had shares confgured and they were properly running on the network.
As of yesterday, this all stopped working. The router does not see the drive; it is as though it is not plugged in.
I rebooted the router and it still does not work. I've connected the hard drive directly to my PC to verify that it works there, and it does.
The router is running Ver.1.0.03 (Build 14) of firmware (the latest).
Any suggestions?

I've done as you suggested - I did this during a chat session with a support resource from Linksy. Things still behave the same.
I have tried your suggestion of trying another disk. I had an old Maxtor drive that I connected to the router; it works fine!!!
I've since done a chkdsk on my TB drive, and it checked out clean.
I'm guessing here - it appears that the 1TB drive is not identifying itself to the router's satisfaction, but it is OK for Windows XP. What's odd is that this all worked a week ago. The only thing I can think of is that we had some power outages during a recent storm that messed something up (which shouldn't be the case since it is all connected through a decent surge protector).
Any other ideas are appreciated.

Can Time Capsule support an additional external hard drive?

A friend of mine is using Airport Extreme and has both his printer and external hard drive hooked through it accessing both wirelessly. The Apple site says this works great with Extreme but does not say you can do the same thing with Time Capsule. I called our local store and she wasn't sure. Both Extreme and Time Capsule have one USB port so no matter what, you have to split the USB(I know this works with Extreme). All my music is on an additional hard drive and it would be great if I could access it wirelessly. If anyone has done this with time capsule please let me know. I want to purchase it but if not I will go with Extreme.

I have a CS6 Disc I purchased. It does not seem to fit correctly in my external hard drive so I can download the software. Is a special kind of external hard drive required. I have a MAC Book Pro Yosemite version.

I recently purchased an Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium software so I could use a more updated version of Photoshop & Illustrator. My new Mac Book Pro does not have an internal hard drive. I was told by Apple to buy an external hard drive to download the software. I bought an LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer compatible for MAC. When I went to put the disc in the drive it does not seem to fit in the tray properly. Is there a special size external drive I need to purchase to do this? Please help if you know the answer. Connecting an Iomega 4TB External Hard Drive to Time Capsule

I recently purchased an Iomega 4TB Hard Drive:

and I'm trying to connect it to my Time Capsule. However, I'm unsure of which of the four RAID settings to use...
- Simple (Non-RAID)
- Spanned (JBOD)
- Striped (RAID 0)
- Mirrored (RAID 1)
I've read several tutorials on how to connect an External Hard Drive to a Time Capsule, and none of the methods work. When I connect the Iomega to the Time Capsule, its visible in the Airport Utility window, but not the Finder window. So the Time Capsule is reading the drive, it's just not appearing in the Finder, where I can read and write to it.
Any ideas?

The Time Capsule work with most disks that are not software RAID volumes (no more than one volume per physical disk).
If the disk is a self-contained RAID that presents itself to a computer as a single volume requiring no software support, then it may be supported. Put in other words, if you can access this drive while it is connected directly to your Mac, you should be able to access it when it is connected to the TC.
Which RAID settings you choose would be dependent on what your requirements are for storage capacity (RAID 0) vs. redundancy (RAID 1).

Iphoto 11 does not recognise iphoto 9 library stored on external hard drive

Hi anyone,
Been tormented for a full week now where I have "lost" nearly 100Gb of phots. It is driving me insane! I have tried all the possible remedies - the Comd Option functions on iphoto start up, the rebuild, the rebuild on iphot manager, changing the "show package contents" options - but nothing.
The problem. I recently upgraded my mac and with it the software - going from iphoto 09 to iphoto 11. I had been using a smaller library (15Gb) stored on my Mac which migrated fine. The issue was when I tried to connect into my external library that things went haywire. The photographs on the external harddrive show as black squares on iphoto 11, sometimes it briefly flashes the underneath image, but none of them are able to open. The migrated images are fine.
I've tried to then create copies of my external hard drive library but even when I play around with these copies the problem persists. I am terrified that I've corrupted the parent. The external library still opens fine on my old machine on iphoto 09. When I look at "show package contents" under preview on the iphoto 11 mac, the images come up fine so I know they are (at least the majority, there seems to be some phots missing!).
I am at the very limit of my technical ability and sanity. I don't have a time machine backup, my parent library isn't fully backed up so if I revert back to a stored master I will lose a couple of months of photos which included last summers Olympics.
The other threads don't seem to cover this exact problem - has anyone else suffered? Any remedies would be gratefully appreciated and would move me down the stress ladder by at least a couple of rungs.

Well here's the first problem:
The drive is in MS-DOS (FAT) format (a 500Gb Lacie).
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos. So, get the Library onto an appropriately formatted disk.
If you're thinking of reformatting that disk, remember that doing so will erase it, and so make sure you back it up first.
I would try open the Library from an appropriately formatted disk. If the issues persist them try the rebuild with Library Manager again.

Hard drive was recognized by my HP Laptop w/ Windows Vista. Replaced it with Pavilion Desktop w/Windows 7 (64 bit).

Have you been able to test any other devices in the ports on the desktop you are trying to using with Iomega? Example, have you tried using a regular usb flash drive or another external hard drive to see if the computer recognizes the device in the same port?

Sharing a lightroom catalog - Does housing the catalog and images on an external hard drive work?

I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
The workflow would look something like this:
Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR
"ClientCatalog" is created
Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks
Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog"
Make suggested edits to images
add detailed tags and metadata
upload to various social media sites and websites
return hard drive to client
Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Can anyone fill me in on potential problems I might have overlooked? Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive) that you would suggest?

Not gone, just mis-addressed. It can be re-addressed as necessary. I believe it is enough on MacOs, to name the drive. On Windows, the details vary by OS version (Google for instructions) but this is for Win7:

After doing this, on re-starting Lightroom and opening the Catalog, the images will at first go offline (previously used location not found). To get them back online, it will be necessary to re-browse the parent folder for all your image folders, to reflect its new location under the new drive reference. That done, the Catalog location info for all the images and subfolders located under that parent folder, will be updated automatically. If this parent is not currently showing in the LR Folders list, you can right-click and choose "Show Parent". LR's display then reorganises to reflect this actual hierarchy.

Yes, PROVIDED the external enclosure supports those drives. Older enclosures may not go larger than 2.2TB.

Iomega 250 external hard drive - not all files show up

I purchased a MacBook Pro last weekend. I have an Iomega 250 Gig external USB/Firewire hard drive. I have been able to connect it through USB and Firewire to my Mac. I have video clips in windows media player, quicktime and real player formats on the hard drive. All of my word files and music are showing up on my Mac but the video files do not. Does anyone have any suggesstions on what I can try to make them show up?

I hope you mean you have tried USB and FireWire separately. Don't use both at the same time on the drive. FireWire should be a bit better.
Did you generate this disk on a Widows machine? If so, it may be in NTFS format. The Mac can read, but not write or modify a NTFS disk.

By not showing up, do you mean the video files won't play? Real files need the free player from <http://www.real.com>. Some Windows Media files can be played using software from <http://www.flip4mac.com>, but their Intel version is not out yet. Do any of the file or folder names begin with a period? That would make them invisible to the Mac.

Upgrade to Yosemite on external hard drive

I want to try Yosemite out, via an external hard drive, and leave Snow Leopard (for now) as the main OS on my iMac. Would you confirm that what I'm intending to do is the correct procedure?
Download Yosemite from the App Store onto my iMac
Double click the .dmg and point the installer at the external drive
Set up a new user completely unrelated to my existing ones
Complete installation and log out
To try it out, reboot iMac with Option key, choose eHD and go into Yosemite
Go through my apps (except Safari / Mail / iTunes / iPhoto) one by one - taking as long as I need - to see which don't run
Are there any other apps which will upgrade their libraries etc and therefore won't run in Snow Leopard?
If I decide - at any point - to finally upgrade to Yosemite, how do I upgrade over Snow Leopard so that
all my users and settings remain as they are?
I keep iTunes 10?

I would have to go back and check, but I think iTunes 12 is what is the version Yosemite insists on to run. iTunes 10.7 is not likely to run under Yosemite. There is no longer a custom install as in the good old days...only install.
Of course you can play around and see if you can get iTunes 10.7 to run under your external drive installation of Yosemite, since a part of your purpose is to experiment with it.
Be sure to partition your external hard drive before installing and make a clone backup of your internal drive so you have that to fall back on should anything go wrong with the internal installation when you get to that point.
I would be VERY surprised if Yosemite can only run iTunes 12? iTunes is an Apple product that is supported all the way back to Tiger, maybe even further. I've never found an older version of iTunes (that is still available from Apple) that won't run on the latest OS. I will not touch iTunes 11 or later with a bargepole, and it would stop me upgrading to Yosemite as I have several large projects on iTunes going back years, all of which require Cover Flow and List View and all sorts of other things no longer part of iTunes. I'm no fan of Album View, I don't know why Apple thinks everyone uses that or even wants it. I've used iTunes going back to iTunes 2, and I'm not going to lose my projects or start finding them awkward to deal with, or lose the Doug scripts which I depend on. However I can always try out 10.7 in Yosemite, as you suggest... [/rant]
I currently back up via Time Machine - presumably that's all I need rather than a clone backup? I still have my Snow Leopard install disks, and anyway I'll know soon enough whether I want to upgrade, from running Yosemite on the eHD.

Safari crashes after installing iomega external hard drive

I've just installed the iomega desktop external hard drive with firewire and usb 2.0. I'm presently connected to my computer by the USB port. Everytime I go to access Safari or Mail they quit on me after a few seconds. I've now disconnected the drive from my computer and it's fine. I did to a Disk Utility repair after the installation but that didn't help. Is there something I neglected to do? Is there a problem between Mac and Iomega? Should I use the firewire instead?

Are you saying that your internal HD doesn't have an operating system on it either, meaning you can't boot your iMac at all? Or that the external was also named "Macintosh HD" in which case, having been erased and reformatted (hopefully with a GUID partition table), you'll need to clone your internal to it once again.

Problems with iomega External Hard Drive on MacBook Air

Hi community!
I'm experiencing some problems with my MacBook Air and an external hard drive and I'm wondering if anybody would be able to help me out.
I own a MacBook Air running Mac OS X 10.7.3. When I connect my iomega 500GB external hard drive, the Finder is able to pick it up, but when I click on the drive name, it spins forever without the Finder responding for a long time (it basically crashes the Finder with a spinning ball staying forever). The light on the external hard drive flashes intermittently when I first plug it in, but after that stays constantly lit. So I guess the disk has power, but something else is wrong with it.
It was working fine earlier today but I accidentally pulled the cable out while the disk was working. I'm hoping this hasn't permanently damaged my drive.
Any help on what I could do to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You might try launching Disk Utility, and then select the drive in question to run a "Verify disk" on the drive. This may indicate any errors in the file system of the drive that might be preventing the successful reading of the disk.
If the disk is empty, you may want to re-partition and reformat, so as to start with a "clean slate".
