  • Does Mountain Lion Have PDF Editing Features?

I need to fill out documents and forms that I download or scan into my computer as PDFs. Does OS X have this capability or is there some plug-in, freeware. or low cost PDF editor that would fit the bill?

For those tasks that are too complicated for Preview, I use PDFPen.  Here's their website:
    http://www.smilesoftware.com/PDFpen/index.html
As you can see there, they have a free trial available.  (As I recall, the free trial is functional, but just prints their logo if you print output.)
I have no financial interest in PDFPen.  I am a satisfied customer of theirs.

My Daughter likes to create Calendars, as a Document,  in Mircrosoft Publisher; does Acrobat Pro have a similar feature? do make such a document?

No, but that's not a problem. Acrobat isn't used to "make" documents in the way Word, or Pubisher, or whatever is. Instead, you continue to use Word or Publisher or whatever, and CONVERT the file to PDF. For every change, no matter how small, you change the original and make it again.

  • Is it just me, or does mountain lion have more beach balls, longer boot time, and other unexplained weirdness that clears up with a reboot?

I'm having mixed feelings about Mountain Lion.  On the one hand, I like some of the features that more closely integrate with my iWhatever.  I appreciate having the notes, reminders, imessage, etc that makes it so I can switch from a mobile device to desktop device.
But on the other hand, I see far more beach balls, such as when simply starting Safari.  Applications take a long time to initialize as they try to, I'm guessing, sync with iCloud.   I get more application hangs.  You know, the ones that leave you dead in the water until you reboot, but then mysteriously vanish for weeks.  and boot time is frustrating.  I spend far more time waiting for my desktop and applications to initialize and stabilize after a login.
Granted, much of my frustration here is not based in the technical.  It's based on "user experience" where I don't normally pay attention when it's working well. It just feels to me that the behaviour of ML is much more similar to windows of the past, where a reboot once or twice a day cured most ills.
Is it just me or does anyone else have similar feelings of disappointment.
    thanks!

Hmmmmm... OK y'all have got me thinking.
I normally run disk check and repair, this time it found a number of files and links related to printers and image devices, stuff that isn't likely part of the issue.  There were three links, however, related to core graphics.  the permissionss were  rwxr-xr-x when they should be rwxrwxrwx.  I don't think those are involved, but alas they are fixed.
It seems like much of my issues seems to revolve around the mounting/access of resources outside my laptop, be it icloud, nfs server, samba server, etc. RIght at this moment, Finder is hung hard.  I tried to force restart it, and in the Force quit menu I now see two Finders.  One will kill and restart immediately, one does nothing.   And I can't open a finder window period.
In fact, just before writing this, I was attempting to edit a text document in StarOffice, and StarOffice went to lunch trying to access my samba share.  Now before y'all go nuts about any samba server side issues, let me say that while my MBP is having issues accessing my samba shares, none of my other computing devices are.  W7 laptop pulls up samba file system as fast as if not faster than it's own local file systems.  My other MBP (older core2 duo, but still on mountain lion) does not seem to have any issues.  I don't believe it a server side issue.
So I asked myself, what's different on my 2.66 gb i7 MBP??  It just occurred to me that I have one piece of software that's pretty deeply rooted in file system management....   Tuxera NFS.   I see that it has not been updated since updating to Mountain Lion, so I am going to check that out, and will post results.

  • Does DMU utility have a REVERT feature?

    Hi All,
    Just thinking...
1). We do the pre-scans and make sure no errors on the Migration panel prior to conversion.
2). We will do RMAN and COLD backup to be sure.
Just in case, if conversion errors out, are there safety features built in place to be able to revert to old character set?
    thanks

DMU does not offer any conversion rollback feature per se but it comes with built-in conversion error handling such that if the conversion process is interrupted by an error condition, it's possible to resolve the issue and resume the conversion. If you really need to rollback your database to the state before the conversion, you can restore from backup or use the flashback database feature.

  • Does iPhone voicemail have this standard feature??

Remember when (with previous standard cell phones) while you were listening to voicemails, you had the option to reply to the voicemail without actually calling the person back?
Like, the feature would bypass the actual calling on the person and go straight to their voicemail inbox.
So if you didn't want to speak to them but you had to tell that person a quick message, you could do it.
In fact, I have a business and to save me time people sometimes do that to me.
The phone doesn't ring it will just alert me when I have a new VM.
Can I do this on my iPhone in any way???
    Thanks!

    Hello, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iPhone itself does not have this. This is typically part of the voicemail service features provided by your cellular provider. More info on AT&T Wireless voicemail below.

You may also wish to contact at&t wireless and inquire if they support such a feature through their standard voicemail access which is accessed holding down 1 on keypad on iPhone. You can also submit feedback below.

  • Does the nano have a reminder feature?

if not, would it be plausible to expect an update that syncs reminders or calandars with your phone? that would be amazing.
    also, siri

The closest thing to a reminder is probably the timer.  If you have a suggestion, I would use this link as Apple does not monitor these forums.

  • Does After Effects have a backup feature?

After Effects just crashed on me and I lost my project. Is there any way to recover that project. I didn't save it I know it was dumb of me. I tried reopening After Effects but nothing popped up. I also use After Effects CS5.

The Automatically Save Projects preference in the auto-save category is now on by default, beginning with After Effects CC (12.2).
Note: An even better approach than relying on auto-save is to use the File > Increment And Save command regularly and habitually. The Increment And Save command has a couple of advantages: it allows you to determine exactly when to save, and it does not overwrite previous saved versions. Once you have developed that habit of using Increment And Save, you may choose to turn off auto-save. (That’s what I do.)

  • Does installing lion have an effect microsoft office software installed?

Im thinking of installing lion onto my macbook pro.
WIll it have an effect on the microsoft office software that i have installed?
    Regards
    Angelo

Depends on what version of Office you have installed.
    2004 won't work at all.
2008 and 2011 will work fine.
Some people have a PowerPC based installer for 2008. If that is your case, then you can install Lion and everything will continue to work, but if you have to reinstall office for some reason, it won't work.

  • Does Captivate 6 have a packaging feature like InDesign does?

I had a project that suddenly stopped working. When I tried to open it it said it was corrupted and the dialog box said to check if there was enough space etc etc. I found a work around using a clear cache app. So now I want to store the project in a ferw places just to be safe. How or what is the best method for this? I did a save as of course but it only saved the actual captivate file and none of the associated files. So I'm wondering if Captivate has some sort of packaging feature (remember collect for output with Quark?). Any ideas? I'm on a Mac using OS 10.7.5
    Thanks!

    Yes.
    See http://www.apple.com/iphone-6/specs/
It's in the "External Buttons and Connectors" section just a little above the halfway point on the page.
