Does OS X Mountain Lion support Windows XP?

I was wondering if Mountain Lion supports it because I want to be able to play games that are only compatible with the system. I don't have a Windows 7 disk and I also don't plan on spending over a hundred dollars for the software, so I guess Windows XP is my only option.
Thanks.

Thank You for the kind link to an additional place to voice the need for running Intel based OS's to Apple hardware.Apple is a great piece of hardware and these forums are a great place to learn and share knowledge. But please realize, forums are more then an open place to share, they are also a knowledge base for developers to gleen information. How else do you think they learn about the bugs other then from people who demo the releases prior to market deployment.

  • Does Mountain Lion support Windows XP?

I have a macbookair running snow leopard and VMware fusion 3which runs Windows XP, If I upgrade to Mountain Lion will XP  be supported?

The issue for you is not whether XP is supported but rather is your version of Fusion supported. Go to the Fusion site and ensure your version will work with Mountain Lion. If it will you are all set. If it won't, upgrade to a version that will work or switch to another VM that will work with Mountain Lion. Once your VM works XP will work.
If you are planning to install XP using Boot Camp rather than in a VM like Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox, then XP won't work with Mountain Lion.

  • HT3669 Panasonic D-C 262 driver, does the OSX mountain Lion support this printer?

Anyone knows if the Panasonic laser Printer D-C 262 is supported by the mountain lion OSX?

Please verify the model number.  I cannot find a good match for a D-C 262 device.  Is it a DPC 262 model or something like that?  I might also help us to know what country.  Many times manufacturers have completly different support pages for various regions/countries.

  • OSX Mountain Lion supports Windows 8 pro???

    Hi all,
The latest version(s) of bootcamp states that supports Windows 8 pro.
Has anyone tested it yet?   I want to go for it but before erasing the whole thing I want to be sure that it works.
    I'll appreciate your feedback.
    Cheers!

OS X 10.8.3 and newer include a Boot Camp Assistant version which is compatible with Windows 8, but only for some Macs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
If your Mac is compatible (it doesn't look like it's compatible), follow these steps to install Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf You don't have to erase the hard drive.
There are a lot of users who have tested it and it works properly. The only thing you have to do is to install the Boot Camp Support Software in Windows, so your MacBook Pro will work properly in Windows

  • Does Mountain Lion support trim for SSDs? ...

I've been reading various forum posts and I find conflicting info. I did se several references to a tool called 'trim enabler.'
I have a late 2012 Mac Mini with Mountain Lion and installed a Samsung 830 SSD.
System Report shows that trim is not enabled for the drive. Does Mountain Lion support trim for these drives? How important is it to enable it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

Apple does not support the 3rd party drives.  To enable it (without installing another software package), you can visit the website:
    http://digitaldj.net/2011/07/21/trim-enabler-for-lion/
I ran the series of commands on my Mac Pro and it did enable TRIM.
the webpage even has a backup/back-out procedure.
Without TRIM, my computer was running extremely slowly.  After enabling TRIM, my computer ran substancially faster.

  • DOES MOUNTAIN LION SUPPORT MICROSOFT OFFICE 08?

When I upgraded to Mountain Lion I was unaware that it did not support MicroSoft Office 98. I'm on a budget so I am asking if Mountain Lion supports
    MicroSoft Office 08.
    Thanks for your responses.

Yes, Office 2008 will work, but it would be better to upgrade to Office 2011.
You can upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Does Mountain Lion support Word 2008?

Does Mountain Lion support MicroSoft Word 2008?

I had completely uninstalled Office '08 on my old computer running Snow Leopard and had already made the switch to Office '11 when I got my new MBP with Lion. Since I used Setup Assistant, everything migrated well and I've had no trouble with ML and '11.
However, if you visit the MS Office for Mac user forums you will note that many users of '08 - and Word '08 in particular - are/were having problems with Lion and, now, with ML. I would suggest that your wife just customize '11 to her liking - shortcuts can always be modified (well, most of the time).
There are instructions on how to completely uninstall '08 here.

Apple has been known to make changes between the GM and public releases. It's rare, but it has happened. In addition, RoaringApps also does not test these apps themselves; they rely on user reports which may or may not be accurate or current. So while RA is a useful guide, it's not definitive. Only the app's developer should be relied upon for official information on compatibility.
We should not discuss the GM release here, by the way, since that's still under NDA.

  • How does one silence mountain lion startup sound?

How does one silence mountain lion startup sound?

After asking this question many times and always getting the ususal fixes (that don't work in Mountain Lion) Psst, Startninja, turn down the sound when you shut down, yada yada yada. And the "why don't you just put it to sleep" comments :/  duh..  Sometime we want to shut it down!! Even Apple support has no idea how to do it. Here's is the fix and it is so simple it hurts.
Controlling the volume of the startup chime is easy to set in the System Preferences Sound panel, but you need to make two different settings if you have external speakers connected to your Mac. There is no need to use scripts or any other coding to make this adjustment.
There are both internal and external speaker output settings in the sound preference pane. In order to adjust (or turn off) the volume of your Mac's internal speakers, nothing must be plugged into the headphone jack. Keep in mind that this setting completely controls the volume of your internal Mac speakers, so if you mute the sound, and have no external speakers, you will get no sound at all from your Mac.
To adjust the volume on your Mac's internal speakers:
Unplug speakers or headphones from the headphone jack.
Go to System Prefs > Sound, then click on the Output tab.
You will then see Internal Speakers (Type built-in) highlighted in the window.
Adjust the output volume (which also controls the chime volume) in the slider at the bottom of the window. Remember if you mute it there will be no internal speaker sound.
To set the volume for your external speakers:
Plug in speakers or headphones to the headphone jack.
Go to System Prefs > Sound >, then click on the Output tab.
You will then see Headphones (Type built-in) highlighted in the window.
Adjust the output volume (which controls the chime volume in the external speakers) with the slider at the bottom of the window. Remember if you mute it there will be no external speaker sound.
