Does Pages recover unsaved documents if your computer crashes?

I had some things open in pages (A story, some notes from class) that I hadn't yet saved, and then my computer crashed totally at random. Is there any way to recover them? I know Word has unsaved document recovery....

If you never saved it, No.
Are you still on OSX 10.5.8?
ForeverSave Lite will automatically save for you. OSX 10.7 will also autosave, but still needs to have you save the first time so it knows where to save it.
Word must leave a heck of a lot of randomly named files lying around if you never save.

There is no built-in Autosave feature in iWork's components but such a tool is available for months.
    Go to my idisk:

    and download:

I was able to write the tool but I can't install it for you

Well, here's what I found out that works for me...
I had a Pages icon on my dock, and launching it brought up version 4.3.  But I went to my Apps folder and found the new updated icon there and when I launced that it brought up version 5.01.  So apparently the Apple update process left two versions launchable on my iMac.  Weird...

  • Can you save your itunes and songs onto an external hard drive so that incase your computer crashes you will still have all your music?

Can you save your itunes and songs onto an external hard drive so that incase your computer crashes you will still have all your music?

The procedures below are for "moving" your library but as long as you don't delete it from your internal drive you are basically backing up.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Simple answer:  Copy your whole iTunes folder to the external drive.  For subsequent backups you might want to learn about cloning and using a tool that only does incremental backups of recently changed items rather than copying all your files each time.

  • When your computer crashes how do your get the music on your iphone back on your new computer

when your computer crashes how do your get the music on your iphone back on your new computer?

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • HT4641 Does pages have a document password protection function

Does pages have a password protection function since adobe PDF for IPhone3gs or IPad2 does not?

If you were to think laterally about this, you could also create encrypted archives for just those folders or files you were interested in to minimise the possible harm. Similar to the disk images Magnus suggested, but slightly less trouble. Modern Macs are very fast at unarchiving these files so you can work on them then archive them again without too much trouble.
I am a great fan of those tiny USB harddrives and thumbdrives, which easily slip into your pocket so you can take them with you.
My backup consists of a set of three 4Gb USB thumbdrives for my documents and 3 differently colored USB harddrives for my larger material.
If your work is on these, you simply detach them from your computer and keep them locked up or on your person.
Nobody will be able to access those without bailing you up.
… And of course you can use a combination of any and all of the above suggestions.

  • Can you recover unsaved documents after the application shuts down

I just finished editing a previously saved 5 page rough draft and i was trying to add a header before i saved my changes and then the Pages application shut down. Now after 3 hours of editing, all of my changes are now deleted. Is there any way to recover an unsaved document? Is there like a temporary storage file or autosave file I can access? My paper is due tomorrow so any responses would be greatly appreciated.

You haven't said what version of Pages on what version of OSX but since OSX 10.7 they all require you to save the first time to create the named file that all subsequent versions will be saved to.
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/29454/foreversave-lite
Will prompt you to save the first time and then save at set intervals.
Apple as usual has created a novel auto-saving and versioning system that falls at the first hurdle.
It should save a temporary file in Documents with a unique System tag, or the first line of the document, if you haven't saved within 5 minutes of opening it.
Then if you chose to not Save, move that copy to the Trash.
Finally to give you a 3rd chance to recover, let you reopen the unsaved document from the Recent menu, returning the temporary file from the Trash.
This would cover the usual human behavioral problems. People tend to get into their work and forget to do the mundane things like Save until too late. It is easy to hit Don't Save when that pops up either by misclicking, or out of some long standing habit. Only thinking about it after the event.

  • Syncing documents with your computer

Can you save a document created on your iPhone and save it so it can be read on your computer? Ideally the document could be updated by syncing it to your computer. Is there an application that can do that?
    Thanks very much.
    All the best,
    Tom

According to the webpage, you can't view files using Phoneview, just copy them to your phone:
"Note: Files stored on the iPhone using PhoneView cannot be viewed on the iPhone screen."
You may try the app "Air Sharing" to copy files to your iPhone and view them, but you can't edit or send them from your phone.

  • Why does the "You need to restart your computer" error appear when I open Vuze?

    Hi there,
I apologise that this has probably been asked many times however none of the relevant threads I have come across solved my issue.
I have the most current version of Vuze and a Macbook Pro (Version 10.6.8 OS X).
After using Vuze for a year with zero issues, today I have had to restart my MBP several times due to this error message which is displayed in 5 different languages: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again."
This error only occurs when Vuze is open.
No idea why this is the case. Could it perhaps be a file I am downloading?
Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Don't unplug the M-box while your MBP is on.

  • Recovering a Numbers doc after computer crashed

    Hi
I was working in a numbers spreadsheet when my computer crashed. Although I have time machine, I could not locate this file. I hadn't yet named it/saved it, but had been working in it for 1/2 hour or more and thought it was saving every 10 minutes or so the way excel does. Nothing else was lost. My backup seemed to have everything but that single numbers file.
Is there another way to recover an unnamed numbers file?

I understood what happened. No one is ever happy about losing their work. A lost half hour isn't all that bad in the whole scheme of things. My typical strategy is to save often when doing tedious work (such as data entry or careful arranging of objects on a sheet) but otherwise I usually go past a half hour before saving. I also do not back up hourly or even daily but I often use several computers in the course of my work so I have recent versions of my files on several systems (includin a flash drive). I suppose a crash would cost me a day's work.
