Does Partitions take up database storage space

Thanks in advance.
I have tables with partitions that do not have data stored in them yet, does partitions without data stored in them take up database storage? How do you measure the storage used by a tables partitions that do not have data stored in them yet?

Is there a benefit to asking the same question over again? (If so, I'd love to hear it.)
Or would you be willing to continue with the original thread at Oracle Table and Index Partitions storage consumption?

What is "Other" and why does it take up so much space?

What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
    as recommended by:

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:

  • Free space of mdf and ldf does not match with database free space

In SSMS i saw file size related properties and found below details for one database. Here values does not match with other properties. Here size of the mdf, ldf and total size matches with other values under each window. But Available free space of mdf and ldf
if added then it does not equal to Available free space shown in shrink database window and free space shown in database properties. This is true for any database. Why is it so? Please can anyone explain the logic behind this?
    Under database properties:
    Size: 91.31 MB
    Space available:13.40 MB
    Under database file properites:
    mdf size:17 MB
    ldf size:75 MB
    under shrink database:
    currently allocated size:91.31 MB
    Available free space:13.40 MB
    under shrink file-for data file:
    currently allocated size:16.38 MB
    Available free space:12.63 MB
    under shrink file-for log file:
    currently allocated size:74.94 MB
    Available free space:55.62 MB

    Hi,
Database properties and database shrink show the total (log+data) values. Others show the individual sizes, log and data separately.
    I hope it helps.

This does not answer my question. If you add allocated space of mdf and ldf it equals to database allocated size. But i am asking why this ldf and mdf free space together(when added 55.62+12.63 ) does not equal to database free space?

  • HT201318 How long does it take for the storage to be upgraded? I bought it this morning and it still hasn't gone on?

How long does it take for the storage to be upgraded? I bought some 12 hours ago and it still hasn't gone on my iPhone 4

    Hi Katie,
Where are you looking on your phone to determine how much storage you now have? Are you looking under Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup?
If so, and it still doesn't show the correct storage, try resetting your phone. Hold down the Home and Power buttons and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears. Then check your storage again.
    Post back with questions!

  • Does iwork take up alot of space?

I just got a new macbook for christmas
    and i got iwork
i was just wondering if it takes up alot of space.

"a lot" is a relative term. iWorks takes up more space than Apple programs used to, but less space than MS Word. You can find programs that use less space, but they probably won't do as much.
Look at it this way. If you have an 80 gigabyte hard drive,iWorks uses less than 1% of it. In other words, if you have 80 million dollars, you've spent $661,000. You have over $79 million left.
That's a lot of money to some people, but not much to someone who has $80 million.

  • Why does "other" take up so much space on my iPhone?

I got an iPhone 5s 16 GB at the end of June 2014.  I keep running out of memory and when I recently plugged my phone into iTunes, I noticed that "other" is taking up around 3 GB of space. I know the usual delete pictures and browsing history spiel, and I've done it all. People also say that Settings>General>Usage>Manage Storage is a good way to tell what is taking up space, but I went there and manually added all of the numbers and they only add up to 8.6 GB vs the 11.6 that my phone says is occupied, leaving an extra 3 GB unaccounted for and confirming my suspicions that "other" is not included in this. People keep telling me it's the operating system but isn't that already taken out of the original 16 GB and why you really only have 12 GB of storage to begin with? As I was looking through different forums and discussions, people kept saying to restore the iPhone from the iTunes backup and I am wondering if that would actually work...does anyone have experience with this? (Also would this delete my apps and music as well? I'm not very familiar with the restore from backup and could not really find any good information on it.) Do I just have to live with "other" eating up this much space on my phone? I've had iPods and I have an iPad, and I've never had this problem. Any help at all would be very appreciated, as this is very frustrating. Thanks.

That is normal size for others.. mine is around 2 GB.

  • Why does Calendar take up so much space and why can't I add events or sync?

Since I updated to ios7, my calendar hasn't worked at all. It used to sync with my Google calendar. Now I can't see any events in my calendar. The + sign to add an event is always greyed out so I can't add events. And something I've just noticed is that Calendar takes up 473 MB of space on my phone, making it one of the biggest users of space. (This might be related. If I search for an event in my calendar, it shows a long long long list of events that all say "New Event" that are scheduled to last all day. I can't delete these. It says they are assigned to "Untitled Calendar."
I've tried all sorts of combinations of turning on and off syncing calendars with Google and with iCloud. I can't detect any change. (My Mavericks calendar works just fine and syncs with Google.)

    Hello chinchillababiz,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with iOS storage. It contains helpful advice and information that may assist you in managing your data:
See how much storage you've used on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
If your device is near its capacity or you get an alert that your storage is full, you can remove some of your less used content to make room for more.
View storage usage on your iOS device
Tap Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage to see the amount of space each app and its content takes on your device.
Tap an app for more detailed information about its usage.
Depending on the app, you might be able to delete some of the app's content, or delete the app and all of its content.
View storage usage for your iOS device in iTunes
When you connect your device and select it in iTunes, you'll see your usage by content type:
Audio: Songs, audio podcasts, audiobooks, voice memos, and ringtones
Video: Movies, music videos, and TV shows
Photos: Camera Roll contents, Photo Stream, and Photo Library
    Apps: Installed apps
Books: iBooks books and PDF files
Documents & Data: App content such as contacts, calendars, messages, emails, and their attachments, Safari Offline Reading List, and files that you've created in your apps
Other: Settings, Siri voices, and other system data
Hover your mouse over the content type for more information about usage.
iTunes displays how much space the selected songs, videos, audiobooks, and apps use in the status bar on the bottom of the screen. You can also see this information by selecting an item and then choosing File > Get Info. The size is available in the Summary tab.
You can transfer or sync content to your computer from your device. If you want to remove certain types of content from your device, learn how to manually manage content using iTunes.

  • Does hibernation take any hard drive space?

    Hi.
I am the proud owner of a brand new Toshiba I received for Christmas. I am asking this because last night my battery was running out of power and then my mom called me to the living room and eventually the battery ran out and the computer hibernated. When I turned it back on it went back to what I was doing when I left the room, working on my manuscript on Word. I am wondering if this will take up any hard drive space. That way I will know not to let it hibernate again and to be sure to plug the thing in before I leave the room.
    Thanks for your help!!
    Magali.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

In hibernation, data from RAM is dumped to the hard drive. Your hib file (it's a hidden system file usually located on C: as hiberfil.sys) will be equivalent to the amount of RAM you have on your computer. The hib file continually exists, in order to be ready to absorb your RAM upon hibernation. It does not increase or decrease in size over time. The drive wear is insignificant. It's basically a way to have your precise computer state perfectly conserved (as with sleep), but without draining battery or AC power (unlike sleep).
If you don't plan on using Hibernation I believe you can turn it off and free up the disk space - Look Control Panel / Power Options / Advanced Power Settings

  • Database storage space in BW

    Hi,
Our BI dataabase growing everyday 4 - 5 GB, but actually our source system database size ECC - 700GB and BI database size 1200GB.We are not sure how it growing irrespective of source system. We are using BI7.0, MS SQL
Is there a way we can restrict the datase growth.Appricite for your inputs.
    - Thanks in advance
    Kristne

    Hey Kristne,
There are several ways to restrict the DB grow,
    First please follow according to:
SAP Note 706478 Preventing Basis tables from increasing considerably
The next step is to find the most largest table and growing,
you can do this in transaction DB02:
'DB Analysis' - 'Top n largest tables' and ' Top n modified
Now, you would be able to see which tables are growing,
if this table contains application data, than the growing must be
due to the growing in the ECC, and that's normal, otherwise,
you would have to check this specific table (and how you should reorganize this table)
    p.s
you can also find the lastest tables by executing the following SQL:
select [reserved (MB)], [unused (MB)], [Table Rows],
    right(space(16)left(user_name(o.uid),16),16)'.' as [Schema], left(object_name(i.id), 32) as [Table]
    from (
    select top 50
    left(convert(char(18),convert(money,(sum(reserved)/128)),1),15) as [reserved (MB)],
    left(convert(char(18),convert(money,((sum(reserved)-sum(used))/128)),1),15) as [unused (MB)],
    left(convert(char(18),convert(money,(max(convert(int,convert(char(11),rows))))),1),15) as [Table Rows],
    id
from sysindexes where indid in (0,1,255)
    group by id
order by [reserved (MB)] desc, [Table Rows] desc) as i
    inner join sysobjects o
    on i.id = o.id
order by [reserved (MB)] desc, [Table Rows] desc

  • How Long does it take to receive a space grey iPhone 5s in November, 2013?

I ordered online a 16 gb Space Grey iPhone 5s on November 5th.  The Verizon website said it would ship within 2 days of November 6th.  Well....it's almost the beginning of December and I'm still getting the "order being processed, check back tomorrow" message when I check the status of my order.  I'm starting to think if you order online you are stuck at the back.  They might have the phones at the stores so they get the people who wander into the Verizon stores can get their phones before they can change their minds.  Would I be best served by canceling my order and just going to a Verizon or Apple store.  I waited a couple of months before ordering assuming it wouldn't take this long.  Anyone order online something similar recently and received their phone?

  • I have a 16GB iPhone 4s and currently I have around 100MB left. It says my photos take up 6.34 GB   I really am unsure how because I only have 252 pictures on my phone (not including the 5 photos I've on my Photo Stream). Why does it take up so much space?

I have less than a GB of apps and just over a GB with Other... To be fair I have around 22 videos which people have previously said in the past is my problem but I still can't see how because in total they all add up to 35.59... I've had a go deleting absolutely everything (including apps, photos, texts, history on the phone, websites etc) and still my phone is out of memory. my sister has about 200 photos and on her phone it only takes up around 3GB ?
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas it would be appreciated...
(I am very reluctant to putting all my photos on my computer and deleting them off of my phone at the moment because I don't trust they're safe incase one day my laptop is wiped or something).
    Thank you,
    Lauren

Make a backup of your laptops hard drive to an external hard drive or a thumb drive.
Videos take up a lot of memory.  One second of videos is like dozens of pictures.  How much time, in total minutes & seconds, do all 22 of these videos add up to?

  • What is the "Download All" button at the bottom of my playlist and why when I select it songs begin downloading and take up my storage space? If I don't download them the songs will not play correctly....

I have activated iTunes match and iCloud, now when I go to my Music app and choose me 'best' playlist, I see a button at the bottom of the list that says download all.  If I choose this option every song in that playlist begins downloading (near 1,000), this is taking up memory on my phone instead of using the cloud.  If i DO NOT download all of the songs they do not play correctly (skipping certain songs, not playing all the way through, etc.)  What's this all about and what can I do about it?  Why are my songs not just playing through iCloud? I thought that was the point.....

To be honest, you shouldn't need a great 3G service for it to be able to keep up with a song, but if it's a very weak signal then it could be the problem.
Unless you have unlimited 3G then I would recommend using wi-fi anyway, as you could easily run into monthly limits otherwise.
Do you think that it works better with wi-fi than 3G, or just the same? If it is the same then I would have to question whether this is actually your problem.
As to whether you should download songs beforehand, I would say that as a temporary measure it probably makes sense if it's possible as it will download them anyway and that way you get to listen to the music properly. However it does mean that you have to start downloading before you start listening which may be annoying.
I'd be interested to hear whether the performance is better with wi-fi than 3g though. It could be that I'm barking up the wrong tree.

  • What exactly is "other" and why does it take -up so much space?

I'm trying to free up some space on my iPad2, and see "other" is usiong 6.7 gigs..  What exactly is "other"?

Actually "other" is app data, Safari Bookmarks, calendar entries, text messages, notes, Safari History, email messages and things like that - stuff associated with apps - but not the apps themselves or any other media.
Your "other" should be nowhere near 6.7 GB. You had a corrupt sync. You can try restarting, the iPad, rebooting it by holding down on the home and sleep buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears or unsync all photos and music and then resync all photos and music.
However, many times you need to restore the device to factory settings and then restore from a backup in order to reduce that bloated size. That should probably be no more than 1 GB and more likely between 200 and 750 MB in total size.

  • Australis does not take up enough vertical space.

Removing the option to use small icons was a step in the right direction, but there's still too much vertical space. I suggest adding more padding, larger icons, and perhaps more default toolbars to reduce the vertical viewing space to about 1 pixel.

I assume that this is not really a problem, but rather meant to be ironically to emphasize that the Australis design is taking a lot more screen estate for the user interface then the current release leaving less room for the browsing area.<br />
The OP seems to suggest to enlarge all toolbar items that much that the full screen minus 1px will be taken up by the toolbars and its icons.<br />
Yes, the Australis design is taking up more screen estate as this is to prepare for touch screens and tablets that need larger icons.
There will probably be themes and extensions that will address this expansion for normal screens and allow for more browsing estate in these cases.
