Does Patch set 3 include latest CPU ?
I know that the 10G R1 patch set 3 (9.0.4.3) is cumulative in that it can be applied to any 9.0.4.x release; but, regarding security, is it safe to assume that it also includes the latest (APR2006) CPU as well, or does that need to be applied before patch 3?
Let me explain, although I am sure Jan can clarify further if required when he comes on line.
If for example, 10.1.2.3 came out on the 15 March (made up date) and we said that we have not yet completed our certification testing.
Then between the 15th and the 30th March we run all our tests and everything passes (it can take a week or so to do the testing). Then on the 30th of March we can say "10.1.3.2 IS certified".
So, we don't need to patch it, its just that we haven't completed all our certfication testing by the time the product is released.

Latest CPU patch for 10.2.03 database
Hi,
Could any one let me know what is the latest CPU patch avaliable for 10.2.0.3...?The terminal CPU patch for most platforms for 10.2.0.3 is Jan 2009 - see "Terminal Patch History" section of MOS Doc 1159443.1 (Patch Set Update and Critical Patch Update October 2010 Availability Document).

Install the latest patch set for Oracle 10.2.0.4.0
I install SAP PI 7.1 EHP1 on Windows Server 2008 (RC1).
I already installed Oracle DB software 10.2.0.4.0
Now I would like to install the latest set for Oracle 10.2.0.4.0
I downloaded the following files from Service Marketplace:
- p8559467_10204_MS_WINX8664.zip
-p7592030_10204_WIN_GENERIC.zip
- Opatch_10204_Generic_v5.zip
- and 3 Patchset files (Patchset_10204MSWINX8664aa.bin, Patchset_10204MSWINX8664ab.bin, Patchset_10204MSWINX8664ac.bin )
Question:
1) What is the procedure/order to install the patch set?
2) Where (in which directory) should I put the 3 Patchset files and which commando should be used here (opathc apply)?
Thank you!> - p8559467_10204_MS_WINX8664.zip
> -p7592030_10204_WIN_GENERIC.zip
> - Opatch_10204_Generic_v5.zip
> - and 3 Patchset files (Patchset_10204MSWINX8664aa.bin, Patchset_10204MSWINX8664ab.bin, Patchset_10204MSWINX8664ac.bin )
That one is for updates 10.2.0.<4 to 10.2.0.4. Since you are already on 10.2.0.4 that one is no more necessary.
> 1) What is the procedure/order to install the patch set?

See Note 1137346 - Oracle 10.2.0: Patches/patch collections for Oracle 10.2.0.4
Basically you will
- patch Opatch
- unzip the patch to a directory where <sid>adm has access
- stop all Oracle Services
- then execute opatch apply

10.1.0.4 patch set results in corrupted database
Hello!
I have installed database 10g and applied the 10.1.0.4 patch set to it. After the successfully completed installation tasks, I have proceeded to the post-installation tasks. I have set the initialization parameters successfully and everything was fine until I issued the STARTUP UPGRADE command and got ORA-01034 and Ora-27101 errors:
ORA-01034 ORACLE not available
ORA-27101 "Shared Memory Realm Does Not Exist"
I have tried suggestions posted here and on Metalink, but nothing worked. Since then I am just going in the circle trying different fixes. Should I recreate the Oracle service using ORADIM utility?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Edited by: rootsman on Apr 12, 2012 1:36 AMHi Rootsman,
There are 2 possible causes for this issue.
1. Because an incorrect syntax was used to apply the SQL part of the patch. If the password for the user is not added in the command line, the rcuJDBCEngine will fail. The rcuJDBCEngine will not prompt for the password (like sqlplus does), if it is not provided on the command line.
- Incorrect syntax
+$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rcuJDBCEngine sys@<host>:<port>:<SID> JDBC_SCRIPT post_install_script.sql $PWD $ORACLE_HOME+
- Correct syntax
+$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rcuJDBCEngine sys/<password for sys>@<host>:<port>:<SID> JDBC_SCRIPT post_install_script.sql $PWD $ORACLE_HOME+
2. This problem may also occur if the password has been supplied on the command line but includes some special characters.
The solution is to stick to the syntax described in the README.txt which states to enter the sys password on the command line:
+$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rcuJDBCEngine sys/<password for sys>@<host>:<port>:<SID> JDBC_SCRIPT post_install_script.sql $PWD $ORACLE_HOME+
If there are any special characters in the password, enclose the password in single-quotes ' '. For example:
+$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rcuJDBCEngine sys/'<password>'@<host>:<port>:<sid> JDBC_SCRIPT post_install_script.sql $PWD $ORACLE_HOME+
Hope your problem gets resolved.
Thanks,
Cris -

Can i install 10.2.0.4 patch set 14 on my client when SERVER is at 10.2.0.4 patchset 5?
======================================================
We have a customer with DB on windows-2003 64 bit with following homes.
At Server version:-
DB version is 10.2.0.4 patchset 5,
client1 is at 10.2.0.1.(patchset i am not sure)
Client2 is at 10.2.0.4 patchset 5.
Customer running some sqls which are taking more time from CLIENT2(10.2.0.4 patchset5) than CLIENT1(10.2.0.1). offcourse both CLIENTS connecting
same DB. we identified a bug(6350579). This bug was resolved in 10.2.0.4 patch 14(7677781).
Now my question is Can i apply this patch only at client side with out applying at DB level?
I mean i will create one more new client called CLINET3 (with 10.2.0.4 and i will install 10.2.0.4 patchset14) and then run the SQLs from new client CLIENT3. is this supported method or not?
Reason being customer does not want to install 10.2.0.4 patchset14 at DB since Customer is happy with DB performance.
We are getting problem only when we connect to DB from cleint 10.2.0.4 patchset5. if we connect to DB from Client 10.2.0.1, SQL performance is very good.
Please advise me on this.
Regards
Nagendra. You can upgrade your client with the latest patchset/bug fix (if you have tested it on some other machine and found that your issue has been resolved) but be prepared to handle any unusual errors that might arise due to this combination.
Personally, I never prefer having a client running at a higher version than the server but there are some situations where we need to and we need to make sure that, even though Oracle must have tested certain scenarios, we do not run into errors. So test, test and test before changing anything in production.
