Does Photo Stream copy onto your iPad?

Hi - My 32GB iPad mini is havind trouble with storage and It says I have 1,053 photos on it, this could be why I do not have much space left!
However in my camera roll I do not have this many photos, does Photo stream copy onto it?
Thanks
Tom

I don't use Photo Stream, but I think that they are copied onto your iPad - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486 :
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
You should be able to confirm by going into Airplane mode (Settings > Airplane Mode 'on') and seeing if you can still view those photos whilst the iPad is offline

  • Does photo stream save onto my computer or stream?

when i have photo stream turned on on iphoto, i think it's actually saving the files on my computer. i checked this by going to File Reveal in Finder.
I thought this was suppose to be streaming? why else would it have the little wifi type icon on the bottom left of the photos in iphoto?
this seems redundent on my computer. basically, every photo i take on my photo or even import to iphoto, gets doubled.
so now i have a photo album that i made on iphoto after importing pictures from my nikon. so it saved it on iphoto, then updated it to photo stream. so now i have a copy of each of those photos twice now on my computer. this is taking up a lot of space.
is this right? or am i completely wrong?

I share your frustrations with Photo Stream. While it is great for quickly accessing random photos on other devices, it makes proper photo management a pain. The same photo easily ends up in both the Camera Roll and Photo Stream iOS folders, as well as in the Photo Stream section of iPhoto, AS WELL as in an iPhoto event called [month] Photo Stream".
Deleting the photo from the Camera Roll does not delete the photo and vice versa, so deleting a photo is troublesome. And by creating monthly photo stream folders it makes it hard to maintain a nice event-sorted photo album.
The alternative I employ is to have migrated to Google's Picasa (not just to fix this issue but also from general annoyances with iPhoto and lack of online features). It does the same role as iPhoto (I.e. offline store of all photos and management/organising of them), and I sync all my photos with Picasa Web Albums which I can easily upload to from my phone/iPad/etc. Not only is my photo management sorted but I have a permanent online backup of all my photos. It also let's me share any album/photo with people which is handy. I therefore disable photo stream and upload any photos to any album I want from my phone, instantly accessible online anywhere.
This has been quite an undertaking for the last few days so I thought I'd share!

  • Running out of internal storage space! Want to make room by deleting photos WITHOUT LOSING MY PHOTOS! Can I delete the Camera Roll yet still keep my photos in Photo Stream?? Will doing this free up ios storage? Does Photo Stream auto delete ever?

Hello, I am out of internal storage on my Iphone 4 ALREADY (Just purchased 3 months ago!). I need to clear up some space so I can do updates and take new photos. I was thinking about backing up my Photo Stream to the icloud and then deleting my Camera Roll.
1.) Is this a terrible idea??? I do NOT want to lose those photos! But I NEED more space on my phone!
2.) Will deleting Camera Roll free up space (a sufficient amount? My Camera Roll is at 4.5 GB)?
3.) Will deleting Camera Roll delete my photos from Photo Stream also? It doesn't seem to.
4.)  Does Photo Stream ever automatically delete photos???
5.)  Is there anyway I can save the pictures from my phone to my computer??? I can see the photos on my computer when viewing them through Photo Stream, but those are not permanent, correct?
This is one of the most ridiculous, confusing and unnessacary things I've ever known! Why oh why can't we just have a good ol' SD Card??? (My Droid never ever ran out of storage and I had it for 2 years...)
I tried backing up my photos in Itunes, but I don't have a new enough version. I tried downloading a new itunes and it still tells me I don't have the new version.
I have been working on this for 4 hours, its 2:30 am and I am going to bed. I am sorry I had to ask, but I've been searching and searching and just cannot find the answers. Thank you so much for your help!
6.) Also, I haven't been able to find the videos using the Icloud or the Photo Stream either...
7.) Do you have to have your device (pc) synced with icloud to access the info you backed up from iphone?? Like can I show my cousin my photos at her house using her computer by just loggin on??? Or can I only view my contacts, calender, mail, notifications, and such?
8.) Where on the icloud would one find text messages or other saved info??
Thank you so very much for helping me!!!

What I would say is best is to import the videos and photos to your computer so that you can delete camera roll photos with a copy of them in your possession:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
In regards to backing up Photo Stream
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486:
Does Photo Stream use my iCloud storage?
"No. Photos uploaded to My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams do not count against your iCloud storage."
However, you can do the tedious task of moving your camera roll pictures to photo stream by ensuring photo stream is turned on for your device and take a screen shot of each picture in your camera roll to move it over.
To take a screen shot, just press the "Home Button" and the "Sleep/Wake Button" at the same time while viewing the image.
1.)  It's not a terrible idea, it can be tedious though.
2.)  Deleting a bunch of photos/videos from a camera roll 4.5GB in size can definitely free up space
3.)  Photo Stream photos, as you said, appear to stay upon deleting the photos.  (Tested it personally)
4.)  Photo Stream has a limit according to:  (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4858)
Essentially, it won't erase your photos until you tell it to.
    5.)  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083  (As shown above)
6.)  To update iTunes, you must download and then "Run" the download you get off the website.  Otherwise you will just have an installer program sitting there not updating iTunes.
7.)  You can bring up your Photo Stream pictures anywhere you have Photo Stream capabilities.  For a computer at someone else's house, they would have to have the iCloud control panel (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1455) on their computer and be signed into their Photo Stream and viewing your profile's pictures (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4379)
8.)  On iCloud, you can backup your text messages, but you cannot view them independently on www.icloud.com.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4859
"You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails"
Hope some of this information helps!

does photo stream take up space on my iPod?

They may if you delete the photos from your Camera Roll album but leave them in your PhotosStream album.
Otherwise not. There is only one copy of the photos on the iPod but you can access it either from your Camera Roll or PhotoStream albums.

  • I am getting photos streamed to my iphone/ ipad that I did not take.

Very often I will have photos in my photo stream on either my ipad or iphone.  I am not taking these photos and I have no idea who is.  Why does this happen, how do you prevent it.

If your fiancée takes photos on her device, they will be automatically uploaded to her Photo Stream, which you both share because you share an Apple ID. You can turn off automatic uploading in Settings > Photos & Camera and uncheck My Photo Stream.
In the future, I would recommend you keep your Apple ID to yourself and not share it.

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

  • How do I get my entire photo stream to my new iPad. I use my ICloud and some of them showed up but most if them did not. I am trying to sync the photos from my phone to an iPad 1 and iPad mini.

Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

    Hi Jose Sam,
It sounds like some of your photos are over 30 days old.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3989
I see different photos in My Photo Stream on each of my devices.
Your device will keep up to 1000 photos, even if they are older than 30 days. Photos older than 30 days are removed from the iCloud server, so all devices may not have the same photos, depending on when you enabled My Photo Stream.
You may want to sync the older photos through iTunes to get them on your new iPad mini.

Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.  Then log back in and re-enable, respectively.  That should jump start Photo Stream on your Mac.

  • How does Photo Streaming works?

Hello, I know what does the Photo Streaming funcionality does basically, but I wanted to know what is behind taking a picture and then seeing it in my mac afterwards.
Also some concrete questions I had were:
How long does it take for a picture to get into the iCloud server? and how long does it take to get into iPhoto?
If I had a picture in my iPhone and I mistakenly delete it, would it be in my Photo Stream? Any exceptions?
Is it completely automatic? Do ALL my devices with my account get this photos?
and Finally, Do they need storage when synchronized?
    Thanks!!

    iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
How do I delete photos from my Photo Stream in iCloud?
Individual photos cannot be deleted from your Photo Stream. You can, however, delete all the photos in your Photo Stream by clicking the Reset Photo Stream button in your account at icloud.com. The Reset Photo Stream button will instantly delete all Photo Stream photos stored in iCloud, but it will not remove any Photo Stream photos that have already been pushed to your devices."

Why are the photos I copied onto a DVD from iPhoto not viewable on a Windows PC?

Because you did it wrong? It's hard to know unless you tell us what you did.
    What should work:
Select the photos you want to share
File -> Export and export them to a folder on the desktop. Burn that to the disk with the Finder.

I'm trying to add a GIF image to my photo stream by putting it in the Uploads folder on my PC, but it won't come up on my iPod Touch. Does photo stream even support GIFs, and if so, any guesses to why it might not be working? It has worked with JPGs before.

Only if you have iPhoto setup to automatically import the Photo Stream photos.
Otherwise they are just on the iCloud server and will be removed after 30 days.
