Does photo stream pictures take space on my computer

does photo stream pictures take space on my computer

Only if you have iPhoto setup to automatically import the Photo Stream photos.
Otherwise they are just on the iCloud server and will be removed after 30 days.

  • Does photo stream use storage space on iPhone?

Mine came with 13.5 GB, am down to 6.2 available, also, if i transfered all of my iphone photos to my photo library on my mac,it should be safe to delete them on phone's camera roll and steam, right? I want to delete them because my photo stream is a replica of my camera roll, and if it is using storage space on phone, well that's just a waste of space.

if i transfered all of my iphone photos to my photo library on my mac,it should be safe to delete them on phone's camera roll and steam, right?
Yes. Both iPhoto and Image Capture include an option to delete photos/videos from the iPhone's Camera Roll after the import process is complete as with any other digital camera.
If you don't have another iOS device and you aren't interested in making use of the iPhoto option on your Mac to automatically import photos from your Photo Stream so you don't have to do this manually, you don't need Photo Stream enabled. Be sure to import from the Camera Roll often and/or back up your iPhone regularly without having Photo Stream enabled.

  • Does photo stream take up space on my iPod?

does photo stream take up space on my iPod?

They may if you delete the photos from your Camera Roll album but leave them in your PhotosStream album.
Otherwise not. There is only one copy of the photos on the iPod but you can access it either from your Camera Roll or PhotoStream albums.

  • Running out of internal storage space! Want to make room by deleting photos WITHOUT LOSING MY PHOTOS! Can I delete the Camera Roll yet still keep my photos in Photo Stream?? Will doing this free up ios storage? Does Photo Stream auto delete ever?

Hello, I am out of internal storage on my Iphone 4 ALREADY (Just purchased 3 months ago!). I need to clear up some space so I can do updates and take new photos. I was thinking about backing up my Photo Stream to the icloud and then deleting my Camera Roll.
1.) Is this a terrible idea??? I do NOT want to lose those photos! But I NEED more space on my phone!
2.) Will deleting Camera Roll free up space (a sufficient amount? My Camera Roll is at 4.5 GB)?
3.) Will deleting Camera Roll delete my photos from Photo Stream also? It doesn't seem to.
4.)  Does Photo Stream ever automatically delete photos???
5.)  Is there anyway I can save the pictures from my phone to my computer??? I can see the photos on my computer when viewing them through Photo Stream, but those are not permanent, correct?
This is one of the most ridiculous, confusing and unnessacary things I've ever known! Why oh why can't we just have a good ol' SD Card??? (My Droid never ever ran out of storage and I had it for 2 years...)
I tried backing up my photos in Itunes, but I don't have a new enough version. I tried downloading a new itunes and it still tells me I don't have the new version.
I have been working on this for 4 hours, its 2:30 am and I am going to bed. I am sorry I had to ask, but I've been searching and searching and just cannot find the answers. Thank you so much for your help!
6.) Also, I haven't been able to find the videos using the Icloud or the Photo Stream either...
7.) Do you have to have your device (pc) synced with icloud to access the info you backed up from iphone?? Like can I show my cousin my photos at her house using her computer by just loggin on??? Or can I only view my contacts, calender, mail, notifications, and such?
8.) Where on the icloud would one find text messages or other saved info??
Thank you so very much for helping me!!!

What I would say is best is to import the videos and photos to your computer so that you can delete camera roll photos with a copy of them in your possession:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
In regards to backing up Photo Stream
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486:
Does Photo Stream use my iCloud storage?
"No. Photos uploaded to My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams do not count against your iCloud storage."
However, you can do the tedious task of moving your camera roll pictures to photo stream by ensuring photo stream is turned on for your device and take a screen shot of each picture in your camera roll to move it over.
To take a screen shot, just press the "Home Button" and the "Sleep/Wake Button" at the same time while viewing the image.
1.)  It's not a terrible idea, it can be tedious though.
2.)  Deleting a bunch of photos/videos from a camera roll 4.5GB in size can definitely free up space
3.)  Photo Stream photos, as you said, appear to stay upon deleting the photos.  (Tested it personally)
4.)  Photo Stream has a limit according to:  (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4858)
Essentially, it won't erase your photos until you tell it to.
    5.)  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083  (As shown above)
6.)  To update iTunes, you must download and then "Run" the download you get off the website.  Otherwise you will just have an installer program sitting there not updating iTunes.
7.)  You can bring up your Photo Stream pictures anywhere you have Photo Stream capabilities.  For a computer at someone else's house, they would have to have the iCloud control panel (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1455) on their computer and be signed into their Photo Stream and viewing your profile's pictures (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4379)
8.)  On iCloud, you can backup your text messages, but you cannot view them independently on www.icloud.com.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4859
"You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails"
Hope some of this information helps!

  • HT201077 Why does photo stream on my i phone have more of my pictures than photo stream on my mac?

Why does photo stream on my i phone have more of my pictures than photo stream on my mac?

Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.  Then log back in and re-enable, respectively.  That should jump start Photo Stream on your Mac.

  • Time Capsule gathering Photo Stream pictures?

Is there a way to make Time Capsule gathering Photo Stream pictures, instead using Mac or PC for this task?
Managing (a fast growing amount of) pictures on the iPhone (/iPad) is a big "pain in the ***" today...
Here is what I am looking for as a perfect solution for this challenge:
    1. You can configure Time Capsule in a way that it gets automatically all iPhone (/iPad) pictures via Photo Stream, and stores them permanently (like a Mac does today via iPhoto)
    2. You can mark selected pictures on the iphone as "store permanent on the iPhone" (favorites like childrens pictures etc.)
    3. You can select a time frame  when pictures are deleted automatically on the iPhone (of course deleted only when they had been stored permanently on Time Capsule)
    4. You can select how many pictures should be stored (via Photo Stream) on your iPhone
    5. You can access ALL pictures on Time Capsule directly from the iPhone. (The overview about pictures would work with thumbnails to reduce required storage for the preview; selected pictures can then be downloaded. For the download you can select a reduced resolution of the picture to save download capacity)
    6. Option to backup pictures on an external harddisk and/or online storage

I'm not sure where to move the photos--in a seperate photo file or directly into iphoto.
This is really a question for the iPhoto support forum, but since I have done this, it might help to know that the iPhoto Library is stored in your Pictures folder on the Mac.
Click the Finder icon at the far left of the dock at the bottom the screen to locate the Pictures folder.
When you open iPhoto for the first time, you may need to "point" iPhoto at the iPhoto Library by holding down the option key as you open iPhoto.
Please post in the iPhoto support area on specific iPhoto questions.

  • Does Photo Stream copy onto your iPad?

Hi - My 32GB iPad mini is havind trouble with storage and It says I have 1,053 photos on it, this could be why I do not have much space left!
However in my camera roll I do not have this many photos, does Photo stream copy onto it?
    Thanks
    Tom

I don't use Photo Stream, but I think that they are copied onto your iPad - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486 :
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
You should be able to confirm by going into Airplane mode (Settings > Airplane Mode 'on') and seeing if you can still view those photos whilst the iPad is offline

  • Can't find my photo stream pictures anywhere, my even in "collections"

I can't find any of my photos from my photo stream. I have very limited space on my phone, so I routinely delete my photos, but I always thought that they would be safe on the photo stream. Now it's gone. All of my photos are gone. I'm left with only the 80 photos I've taken in the past few weeks. I trusted photo stream to hold onto my photos for me but I can't find it anywhere!! I know that Apple changed everything by lumping all of our pictures into collections, but none of my photo stream pictures are there and I've read that they should be! I have no idea where to go to retrieve them. Are they all just gone now??

Thank you for the reply! Where would I go to find the rest of my photo stream pictures? Is there somewhere online I could go to retrieve them? The only photo albums I have are:
    All photos
    Favorites
    Videos
    Recently Deleted
And then I have the collections section. My pictures aren't in any of them, and I have no photo stream folder.
Back when I did have the photo stream folder, it held pictures that I had taken months ago. It was at a 1000 picture limit of course though.

  • Shared photo stream uncontrollably eats space?

With shared photo streams, the consumer (or person shrared too) does not have the ability that I can find to ignore or delete certain photos.  Nor can I find a way to set a timelimit for them to disappear/be removed from your iOS devices.
Since you can't just subscribe on one device (if you subscribe, and have photo stream on any device, all devices get the shared streams) how is one supposed to limit/manage the amount of space that shared streams consume?
Looking at my iOS devices, I have a huge amount of "Other" space being consumed when looking using iPhone Explorer, seems to be photo related.  My guess is photo streams.  Is this a correct assumption?  or does photo stream do something intelligent like if they photo hasn't been accessed on X days, delete the local copy?
Is they only way to ask the publisher of the stream to clean up their stuff?
Seems a bit braindead if this is as it appears.  Hope to see imporvements with space management in iOS7.

  • How can I save my photo stream pictures?

So, Apple in it's infinate wisdom has nearly ruined my honeymoon and I'm at my wits end to save what is left of my digital archive of the trip.  How on earth can I SAVE my photo stream pictures OFF of an iDevice??  I have 210 pictures that I desperately need to save onto my computer and the only place they exist at the moment is inside the photostream.
Not that it matters, but let me vent... the reason they only exist is in the photo stream is because of Apple's under-prepared servers for iOS5 deployment and a glitch in iTunes that wiped my phone immediately as I plugged it in today (no sync, no confirm, just plug, beep, and then a wiped phone in under 5 seconds).
I lost all of my phone content, which luckilly I'm an exchange user so the most important stuff is always duplicated off the device.  But my pictures and video from my week long honeymoon were on my phone and while SOME of them did sync to iCloud, not all of them did (still don't know why THAT is - but that's the next mission) and NONE of my videos were in the cloud.  On top of that, no backup has been done by iCloud in over a week even though I have been on wifi and charging several nights on the trip, and all last night once I got home.  No backup.  Wiped phone.  *** Apple.
Where I stand right now is a photo stream full of pictures that I want to save and cannot seem to get to.  First thought was that since iCloud is a cloud based service I bet I can log into a web site and see all of my content an save it from there.  Nope.  This is Apple so of course that option would make too much sense.  All I can do from the web portal is look at pretty icons and delete my pictures.  I can't even browse them, much less save them.  Again, ***.
So next on my now restored phone (from a week old backup) I can see my photo stream and a nice little save button exists.  Good, that'll save it to the camera roll and I can copy them off like the other pictures.  Nope.  I select some pictures, click save, and nothing happens.  I select 20 or so pictures, click save, and 2 pictures show up in my camera roll??  Again, *** Apple.
So there is also an option to add the pictures to a new album.  Ok, here we go.  Select all 210 pictures, add to a new album, and yes it makes a new album.  Now to save that album off to my PC... NOPE.  The album is nowhere to be found in the file system (where the camera roll pictures live).
Ok, so at least I can now back up my phone so I know that these pictures won't just fall off the iCloud in 30 days.  Backup goes fine... and is 30M in size.  Son of a...!  There is no way that backup includes all those pictures.
I installed the Windows iCloud manager - that sounds like it would let you MANAGE your iCloud content, but nope.  You can manage your payment info, and have it stream NEW photos to you, but you cannot get to your existing photos!  One last time Apple... W T F.
How can I retrieve photos that are in my photo stream?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Yes you can do that, select the rectangle with the arrow in it, in the top right hand corner of your photo stream screen and select the pictures you wish to save to your camera roll then tap the save button at the bottom of the screen and choose camera roll from the options that appear.

  • Photo Sharing in ios 6 shows all my photo streaming pictures

I decided to test the photo sharing feature in ios 6. I created an album and sent it to myself and was horrified to see that not only could I access the test album, but ALL my photo streamed pictures were available for viewing. I created another album, sent it to a gmail email account I have and had other same issue.  Next, I created a third album and send the "public sharing" link to myself: it didn't show the third album but rather the previously created second photo stream album, even though I had already deleted it.
I never had this problem with MobileMe.
    ANy suggestions?

I just did the same upgrade with my 3GS.  I am having a similar problem.  My contacts are on the phone now, but my music and apps are not.  When I try to restore the back up this is the message I get:  itunes could not restore the iphone because a session could not be started.
I see my my music and apps in my itunes library, but if I try to autofill it to my phone I get this message:  itunes cannot add any songs to the iphone because no songs in library can be copied to the iphone.
    Can you help?

  • Does Photo Stream support GIFs?

I'm trying to add a GIF image to my photo stream by putting it in the Uploads folder on my PC, but it won't come up on my iPod Touch. Does photo stream even support GIFs, and if so, any guesses to why it might not be working? It has worked with JPGs before.
