Does Photoshop CS3 do a alpha fade like Flash?

I'm teaching myself Photoshop and I want to fade a background texture so that it isn't so bold. In Flash I would do this with the alpha controls, but I Googled alpha for photoshop and it wasn't what I was looking for. I've tried playing with the partially transparent gradient, using mulitple layers, but I'm not getting the desire results.
Any suggestions would be apreciated.

You can also apply a layer mask to the layer which creates an (alpha) channel in the channels palette, if you seek to have varying degrees of transparency. Then you can edit the layer mask by selecting it in the layers palette and painting it with paintbrush or applying a gradient. You can also turn off the other channels in the document and edit the mask in the channels palette as well.
In this image, #1 is what a layer mask could look like in the layers palette.
#2 is the button you would click to create a mask on the selected layer.
In the channels palette it would be referred to as : <Layer Name> Mask

Does Photoshop CS3 Extended support Thai fonts?

I am translating some short text in Photoshop to several Asian languages. I noticed just with the Thai language, that I get a series of X's with boxes instead of Thai characters. The characters are fine in other applications, including Flash CS3. Other than taking a screenshot in another app and pasting into Photoshop, does anyone know of a workaround? Should I install a particular Thai font that is supported by Photoshop? I am running Photoshop CS3 Extended on Windows XP. Thanks for any help.

Funny thing is you can tell their sales pitch was loosely translated. I gave it a try anyway. The instruction PDF was in Thai, their website was in Thai. But I felt brave anyway, seeing as I googled this application title and didn't see anything negative written about it. Then I go to the application icon in the system tray. As you can see from my screenshot, it ain't exactly user-friendly.
Bottom line... it didn't work. Anyone out there have a solution? I've searched everywhere... Am I the only one with this problem?

Downloaded Apple Maverick. Now I can't use my old Photoshop CS3. I don't like the new photoshop foremat because I cant see the small ruler measurements. Help, I wish to use the old Photoshop CS3.

Why does PhotoShop CS3 crash?

I have a brand new iMac and I've discovered that PhotoShop CS3 will NOT run on it. I really need to be able to run it, but it crashes literally every time I open it and try to open a file. I've deleted all PhotoShop folders and reinstalled but it still has the same result. This is the error message I get.

Je viens vers vous car cela fait quelques heures que je n'arrive pas a faire une manipulation qui me parrait pourtant simple :
importer un décor créé à partir de photoshop CS3 en arriere plan d'une animation faite sur Flash Pro CS5.5 ...
J'ai essayé en PSD en groupant mes différents calques comme ils en parle sur certains tutoriels : mon visuel comporte différentes traces "parasites" rouge...
J'ai essayé en JPEG : cette fois, c'est tout le visuel qui est de couleur rouge uni comme si je voulais mettre un fond rouge !
J'ai essayé en PDF en le glissant sur la scène : Le visuel est cette fois ci comme je le veux, mais impossible de le redimensionner ...
Je reste très frustrée et surtout complétement bloquée sur ma vidéo...
Si quelqu'un a une solution, s'il vous plait, aidez moi, je suis à bout !! ..

You really should think about a CC subscription Hudders. There is something very liberating about using Camera RAW as a filter in an opened image document, and you can do it on a Smart Object. The new features in each new version of PS have a habit of creeping up on you. You start out thinking , ‘yes this is nice, but is it really so very much better?’, and before you know it, you become utterly panic stricken at the very thought of not having those new features.
The new spot removal tool in ACR 8.# is like a Patch tool that automatically choses the best possible source pixels to fix a blemish, and I love it.

CS3 is a very old Adobe product and is not officially supported. Personally, i don't think CS3 will work on Yosemite and even if it does, by any chance, you will face many compatibility and functional issues like above.

Why does Lightroom color not match when editing in Photoshop CS3

I just started Using Lightroom 4, the only version of lightroom that I have used. Short version, saves me heaps of time. But I went to edit more in photoshop and noticed that the color is dramatically different. I have Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1)and the color space is ProPhoto to match lightroom. If I make edits in lightroom, say removing dust spots, it shows in the photoshop version. It seems that on the shadow side is where it really shows. My workflow would be to import as original RAW in lightroom 4 (canon 1d mark II) and go about editing. Right click to edit in Photoshop CS3, and this is where colors go crazy. Then if I save the file with no edits done in Photoshop and compare side by side in lightroom, they are completely different. What is causing the drastic difference?
These are screenshots where in the left screenshot the original image is the dark image and the lighter is what it looks like when opened in Photoshop. The compare in lightroom on the right screenshot is what it looks like when I saved the file from Photoshop. So how does opening in Photoshop, then hitting save change the image? If i make the edit in lightroom then export the jpeg and open in photoshop, I get the appropriate color, exactly the same as my original lightroom raw.
My external editor settings in lightroom are tiff, prophoto colorspace.
photoshop preferences are to preserve embedded profiles.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, when you "Edit in" Photoshop CS3, it should give a warning dialog that says the version of ACR in Photoshop isn't compability, with the option "Open anyway" (won't work well) or "Render in Lightroom" (which should be fine). Or, if you've created your own "Edit in" preset, you should get the option "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments".
So long as you've chosen "Render in Lightroom" or "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments" (depending on how you've edit up "Edit in...") then colour should be OK.
Colour options in PS should be something like:
Check all the "Ask when..." options, just to make sure you get warned of mis-matches. And I suggest the RGB policy should be "preserve...".
And the final thing: to be sure of no colour mis-match, you need a calibrated/profiled monitor (with a hardware tool like Spyder, ColorMunki, Eye-One etc). When there isn't a monitor profile containing a colour space (which needs a hardware tool, generally) then different programs can make different assumptions and display the same image differently.

I have installed Photoshop CS3, but it also installed other programs like Adobe Bridge, Device Central, Stock Photos, Camera Raw etc. I want to ask how can I uninstall them because I am using Photoshop only. And all of this other programs just take a lot of space on my HDD. Please help how to unistall them...!

You are saving maybe 600 MB and Bridge is an integral part of Photoshop as is Camera RAW which is a whopping 23MB.

Photoshop CS3 does not work Instantly then fails to close properly

ok so the main problem is that lately ive been working on a wallpaper for my site and just recently the program has been acting up. the best way to describe it is normally the marquis tool when you pick an area the line showing the border of the marquis moves kind of like an animation right? well in my case it works normally for a little then a little later(1-2minutes) the marquis stops moving. at the point that this occurs i can no longer see the marquis but can still move it with the move tool. i can see the marquis if im using the marquis tool and switch to another tool then click on the image area. also when i try to show/hide a layer at this point when i click the eye it goes away but you can not see the physical changes until i click somewhere in the image. now once this "problem" occurs and i try to exit photoshop the file will close, but photoshop itself will not, then i get an error message saying its not responding and i have to manually shut it down via task manager/ rightclick-close multiple times. i have normally been able to run windows media player, my antivirus download updates, and sometime other programs on top WHILE running photoshop cs3 extended and it normally doesnt have any problems.
now the file size i am working on is a psd amounting to almost 8mb. and it seems that high files like that seem to give it trouble so i thought maybe the ram access was a problem but i allowed the program under preferences 1.6gbs of physical memory to itself and it didnt change anything. also on the file i was using i was using alot of gradient filler layers to get my effect if that helps. i thought maybe something was wrong with photoshop itself as i have come into contact with viruses occasionally and somehow i had managed to get the frmwrk32 trojan that just recently was discovered but i fixed all those problems so after uninstalling and reinstalling photoshop it did not fix the problem.if its possible a key or something got deleted i can work towards that as well.
for now small files like jpegs under 1mb seem to load and i can work on them vigorously but i have yet to fully try out the memory method. i can provide the exact files i was working on in psd psb or any format necessary to help with this process.
for computer system records this is my info.
im using-
windows vista 32bit home premium SP1
model hp pavillion dv67000(special edition)
amd turion 64 x2 mobile technology tl-60 2.0ghz
3gb ram
nvidia geforce 8400M gs
I can provide any other information necessary or provide my files as well as test theory's. i hope to get this back up soon asap without having to reset factory settings or anything drastic. i thank you all for any help and i will cooperate as necessary thanks!

LR2 does not load images in Photoshop CS3

When I select an image in LR2,than choose "Edit in Photoshop CS3",Photoshop does load,but after that an "Open" dialog box appears,instead of the selected image.Same with "Open as a Smart Object".
Also in LR2,Develope Modul,Camera Profiles I don't see "ACR 4.5",although I did this update.
What I tried:reinstall LR2.Did not work.Reinstall PSCS3 with all updates.
Didn't work either.
My OS system is a Windows XP Professional Edition,SP3.
Please help with a solution for this problem.

Thank you,but it doesn't really work.
I mean,if you saw Scott Kelby's tutorial about Photoshop Integration at http://www.photoshopuser.com/lightroom2/,he opened a raw file as a smart object from LR2 in Photoshop,without making any copy (tiff) of the image.When I try the same,an "Open As" dialog box pops up in Photoshop,wich means I have to search through the folders to "tell" Photoshop wich image I want to open as a smart object.I tried it with tiff and jpeg,but same thing happenned.
The "workaround" way you suggested creates a copy,plus I have to convert the image into a smart object,instead of having LR2 doing it.
So the "Open as a smart object" and the "Edit in Photoshop CS3" commands in LR2 are just pointless this way.
