Does Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2 run safely on Snow Leopard?

I have an iMac running OS X v10.6.2  I use Photoshop CS2 but would like to upgrade to CS4 and Lightroom 2 however I continue to hear that there are numerous problems; crashes, etc. Is this still the case or have these problems been resolved?

There are some printer drivers that do not work correctly with Apple's new printing path that PS and LR2 use. If you let us know what printers you are printing to we can probably tell you if they will work properly or not or point you to new drivers or other information.

LR 2 seems fine on my imac - great in 64-bit mode.
Photoshop CS4 has some serious issues for me — I've been shipping off 3-4 crash reports to Adobe and Apple +per day+. I'd recommend holing off until PS CS5 comes out, maybe in a few months. It should be 64-bit, so it can use more than 4GB of RAM. And PS CS5 will hopefully dedicate more than one processor core to saving files.
If you just can't wait, you'll want to be running 10.6.2. There are some fixes to the OS resolving a font issue w/ Menlo and file saving issues with PS.

  • Compatibility between Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 5 on a Mac

    Hi,
    A beginners question:
I am about to buy a Canon EOS 1200D Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens. I am currently trying out Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. I have Ps CS4 and I am thinking of buying Lr 5 in the future after the trial and I want to work with RAW photographs in the main.
Are there any compatibility issues that I should know about with the software versions I have/might buy and the RAW images taken by this model of camera? I need to have the answer(s) to this question before I buy the camera and the correct software.
For your information, I intend using a late 2013 MacBook Pro with a retina screen and 16 Gig RAM.
    Many thanks,
    David
    (Brighton, UK)

The EOS 1200D was first supported in Camera Raw 8.4 and Lightroom 5.4
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Camera Raw 8.4 is only compatible with Photoshop CS6 and newer
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
So you'll be fine with Lightroom 5.4 or later.
However PS CS4 is not compatible with Camera Raw 8.4 and never will be. So you'll either have to upgrade to CS6 or join the Cloud.
Or you can use the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all EOS 1200D Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS4

  • Transferring Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom from Macbook to new Imac

    Hello all,
I am currently running Photoshop CS4 extended version 11.0.1 and Lightroom version 2.3 on an early Macbook model 1.1, I have the original install disks for Lightroom, but when upgrading to CS4 extended I downloaded the upgrade from the Adobe website. I am receiving a new Imac this month and would like to explore my options for correctly transferring (migrating?) these programs to the new Imac. My search on this forum reveals that migration assistant may not be the best option for these two programs, any insight is appreciated.

LR won't be a problem, just install it on the new computer. As long as you don't use them on both systems at the same time you won't violate the licensing terms.  If you LR was an update you will also need the key from the 1.x version.
For PS CS4 just run it on the MacBook and de-activate it (Help->Deactivate...). Then download the PS CS4 package from Adobe and install it on your new system using the same license keys you used to install it on the MacBook. Since you indicated you upgraded to CS4 (from what version you didn't say) you will need the license key from the original (CS, CS2, CS3??) and the license key to the upgrade to CS4.
After installation of PS CS4 you may also need to manually install updates as it is often the case that the Adobe updater doesn't recognize the fact that updates are available.

  • PS CS4 seems to run slow under Snow Leopard...

Hello, this is my first post at the forums.  I just did some tests and am a bit baffled.
    Scenario:
    Computer 1:
    - New Mac Pro quad xeon running snow leopard and PS extended 10.0.1, 6 gigs of ram with only photoshop running
    - opened a 52"x52" 300 dpi image.
    - cropped image and the cropping took a bit longer than I hoped for maybe about 3-4 min.
    Computer 2:
    - Imac Intel core 2 duo with 2 gigs of ram with PS and AI and other apps running
    - opened same image
    - cropping was faster than the Mac pro.... took about 2-3 min
    Any thoughts?
    Another Scenario:
    Computer 1:
    - New Mac Pro quad xeon running snow leopard and PS extended 10.0.1, 6 gigs of ram with only photoshop running
    - opened a 2.8 gig 300 dpi image.
    - cropped image and got a message saying operation can't be done because out of ram
    Computer 2:
    - Quad g5 6 gigs or ram
    - opened same file
    - was able to crop but it took a while.
    Any thoughts?
I wanted to see if it's the OS or the Machine but I tried to install 10.5 in the new mac pro and it won't let me.
Just wanted to share been looking around for any info about app speeds.
    - Nico

Oops I meant 11.0.1 also to clarify the one running on the imac is PS CS4 standard not extended but the one running on the G5 and Mac pro is Extended.

  • Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 3.3

Has anyone had an issue with color shifting when using Lightroom 3.3 and then editing a photo in CS4. I continue to notice a color shift when printing and can not resolve the issue. Using a Epson 3880 printer. After editing in Lightroom and then opening in CS4 for further editing and printing, I notice that the  print preview is exactly the same as the edited image, however when printed, I get a color shift. Never saw this as an issue prior to using Lightroom. Any suggestions?

Photoshop created files are now showing a color shift. So in other words
    all prints are unsatisfactory.
Have only minimal knowledge of color management issues. Seems to me that
some of the issues arrived since I converted files over from Photoshop
to LIghtroom and the conversion to dng from tif files. Not sure but I
believe that the images have color profiles attached. How can I check this.
Color settings - Working space (in photoshop) Adobe RGB
Color management Policies - preserve embedded profile

  • Most recent update to Photoshop CC and Bridge breaks use with snow leopard. need previous vsn

The most recent version of Bridge CC installed with adobe's updater killed my systems year long use of Bridge CC so it won't load.  I need the previous version.  I can't update to 10.7 for technical and other software workflow reasons.  How can I get back to the previous vsn that did work yesterday?

I would guess you need to uninstall bridge cc and then reinstall without applying the 6.1 update
(use the uninstaller in /Applications/Adobe Bridge CC)
You can download Bridge CC direct from here
Download New Adobe CC Trials: Direct Links (no Assistant/Manager) | ProDesignTools
And the Bridge cc 6.0.1 update from here any others you might need
(don't install the 6.1 bridge cc update, because that is the update that breaks bridge on 10.6.8)
All the Adobe CC Updates: The Direct Download Links for Mac OS | ProDesignTools
Be sure you follow the directions where it says Note: Very Important Instructions or the links won't work.

  • Can I run Photoshop CS4 and CS1 on the same Mac?

I've been building pages for a website on my old Mac with Photoshop CS1 then slicing and optimising them in ImageReady before uploading to the site I'm building in Dreamweaver where I put in the body text.
Recently I upgraded to a newer Mac running Snow Leopard and CS4 where I discovered that ImageReady is now considered a thing of the past. I read that Fireworks and Dreamweaver are now the most sophisticated way to go but after a month perservering with fireworks I'm finding it a very clunky, complicated way to operate. I don't like using it and I hate the prospect of starting over to re-build my existing site.
So... will my CS1 version of Photoshop and Imageready run successfully on Snow Leopard and, if so, can I have two versions of one program loaded on my Mac at once? The aim is to be able to use CS1 for Imageready and revert to CS4 for my usual work.

  • Installing DNG converter in CS4 and Lightroom 2.o

I am using Photoshop CS4 And Lightroom 2 on a windows 63bit platform. I have upgraded my camera to a Nikon 5200 and need to upgrade the camera raw file. I have downloaded camera raw 7.3 and it went through an install process for Light rpoom. However, Lightroom and photoshop still does not open the raw files from the new camera. What am I missing?

CS4 and LR 2.x are not compatible with ACR 7.3. You will need to Upgrade to CS6 or LR 4 or both to use your camera's raw files.
Or, you can download Adobe's Free DNG Converter and convert your NEF's to DNG files that are backwards compatible with all versions of Lightroom and PS back to CS2 (if memory serves).

  • Two identical XServes, both running 10.6 Snow leopard..

On;y one will update to 10.6.2.
The one stuck at 10.6 doesn't see the 10.6.2 update in SW Updates. I tried downloading the installer manually and it says "This volume does not meet the requirement for this update"...
    Thoughts??
    Thanks

    Saw that on one box.
Never got to the bottom of it, but I did get past it.
Create a backup of your source Mac OS X Server bootable disk on a scratch disk accessible to the server using Disk Utility, then use DU to wipe the target system disk, and then run a (clean) Snow Leopard Server install onto the disk, and then (as one of the last steps offered within the clean Snow Leopard Server installation) migrate your previous Mac OS X Server system settings into the new environment from your external (saved) copy of your original disk.
All this can (does) use the Snow Leopard Server bootable DVD, and the disk backup that you should have around regardless of the particular upgrade.

    Hi Daddyfred,
CS4 Photoshop has not been tested on Yosemite. But still you can try the Java 6 update using the below link.

Hi, Accidentally somebody screw up Photoshop CS4 and InDesign CS4 Master edition on a MAC computer in the school. The install discs did not start to run therefore I can't  reinstall the 2 missing programs. I want to install the softwares, therefore I download those from here.  The downloaded program refuse to accept the serial number which was given to the school when they purchased the Master Collection CS4 MLP A00. Thank you for your help, in advance.

    Hi Jeff,
Thank you. I am a little bit busy at work, sorry for the delayed reply. I tried to solve the problem, but it still exists. The 3rd of the Adobe disk is damaged someway. I tried to run on my mac at home and it has a failure. So I think we have no other choice that to download the full pack of master collection. I had a discussion with the IT expert and he figured out that company does not exist any more from where they purchased the Adobe Master Collection for Mac and PC. So If you would be kind to help me, what kind of information ID or any kind of document would be needed to identify the purchaser institute (us). I don't think any of us has an account at the Adobe. I will try to figur out. I desperately need to replace Photoshop and InDesign as without them it's really harsh to teach the kids fot the graphic design.
    Sincerely yours.

Can I run the Photoshop CC and Lightroom with Windows XP professional as the operating system?

The tech specs for Phtoshop CC and Lightroom indicate Windows 7 with SP 1 is required as a minimum, so XP would not be sufficient to run them.   Here's the Photoshop specs:
    Windows
    Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD Athlon® 64 processor (2GHz or faster)
Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1*
    1GB of RAM
2.5GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on removable flash storage devices)
    1024x768 display (1280x800 recommended) with OpenGL® 2.0, 16-bit color, and 512MB of VRAM (1GB recommended)†
Internet connection and registration are necessary for required software activation, membership validation, and access to online services.‡
