Does Photoshop CS6 autosharpen resized images?
Hi all,
I've been using Photoshop for my Photography for quite a long time and I have recently upgraded to Photoshop CS6. Whenever I resize my images in CS6, I get the feel (from looking at the images) that the application has autosharpened my images! I am quite sure about that effect because my resizing principles have remained the same since using CS5. And in CS5, whenever I resized to that same size I am resizing in CS6, I used to run the Unsharp Mask Filter to get my images look at their best! So there must be something going under the hood in CS6, or am I missing something obvious? Basically, I want to be in total control as to how much sharpness I want to apply to my resized images!!
regards,
Ali
In fact Adobe added the new interpolation method Bicubic Automatic new in CS6 and Adobe change Adobe's default Photoshop's Interpolation preference setting to the new method. However Adobe did not do a good job adding the new feature. If you leave Photoshop Preference set to Bicubic Automatic you may run into problems if you use scripts that transform things. For if the script tries to retrieve, change and restore your Photoshop Interpolation method Photoshop will wind up with an internal error. There are many bugs in CS6 this is one Adobe has not address yet.
Bicubic Sharper may work well on large un-sharpened soft images. It does not work well on images that have been sharpened.
Adobe scripts like the Fit Image Plug-in always uses Bicubic interpolation. Layer Transforms prior to CS6 always used Photoshop Preference Interpolation method. That is why the script I write retrieve this setting change it to Bicubic , transform then restore the Preference. CS6 now let the user set the interpolation method for some forms of layer transforms not all.

Does Photoshop CS6 Extended allows users to crop individual frames?
Does Photoshop CS6 Extended allows users to crop individual frames? As in just one segment of the video? If so, how is it done?
Hi there
The Crop tool in Photoshop functions by cropping the entire image area - however, you can use a Layer Mask to edit an indiviual video or animation frame, as shown below.
1. Start by importing your video or animation in Photoshop, making sure to convert frames to layers (File > Import > Video Frames To Layers...). Go to your layers panel and select the frame you'd like to crop. Turn on the visibility of the layer by clicking on the small check box to the left of the layer icon - it should turn into an eye as shown below. Then, click the "Add vector mask" icon highlighted below.
2. Next, select the Rectangular Marquee tool (or use an alternative selection method if you want a different shape) and draw a seelction around the part of your video/animation you want to keep.
3. Go to Select > Inverse to select the inverse of the area you just selected.
4. Grab the Paint Bucket Tool and fill the selected area with pure Black (#000000). This will effectively "crop" the layer you have selected. You can see below that the layer underneath my selected layer is now showing through where I filled the selection with black.
The great thing about using a mask is that you can edit it or delete it altogether if need be. Note though that the area you mask will show up as transparent pixels in your Timeline panel - you can see the layer I edited on the far right of my timeline in the screenshot above.
Please post again if you need additional help, or if what I demonstrated is not what you were trying to do.

Wanting to use Photoshop CS6 to open images directly from iPhoto 11.
Using OSX10.8.2 and iPhoto 11. Just installed Photoshop CS6 and want to open
images directly from iPhoto. Before I installed PS I was not able to edit photos
in iPhoto 11. Nothing happens when I click on ‘edit‘ it is blank.
And now it will not work using Photoshop CS6 either.
From Help Center I have gone to iPhoto/Preferences/ Advanced and chosen Photoshop CS6 to Edit Photos but then cannot find an 'Open' to click? Perhaps this is the problem?
When I select a photo in iPhoto and click the Edit button - nothing happens.
Please advise. GlenysThis may be of help to you:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

Does Photoshop CS6 support Nikon D810 raw files?
Does Photoshop CS6 support Nikon D810 raw files? Photoshop won't allow me to open the raw files and Bridge won't display the files either. I tried to download the camera raw plug-in 8.6 but read somewhere that Photoshop CS6 doesn't support it? HELP!!!
It should. The D810 had support since version 8.6. (A relative newcomer.) Did you use Help > Updates on the menu bar?
Take note that the updates for Camera Raw in CS6 only supports updates for cameras and nothing more. You won't get any of the new features inherent in the versions for Photoshop CC (like the filter brush in the Graduated Filter). -

Why does Photoshop CS6 blink on Windows 8?
When using Photoshop CS6, my screen blinks and flashes, especially when using editing tools or adjusting the image (increasing/decreasing size.) I am an Adobe Cloud member and using a new machine that has Windows 8 which I am still getting used to. I had been using my CS apps on my laptop/W7 with no problem whatsoever. Not sure if the OS makes a difference. Suggestions? Thank you.
This may help some people. On another site: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/342967-33-switching-onboard-graphics-nvidia-graphics-car d
A gentleman replied to the question of how one switches from the onboard (not so powerful) graphics processor to the video card (very powerful) using software in the case of nVidea cards. It is easy, and might work out some of the kinks. I have switched and will now try to see if I can mess up PSCC using the higher setting. bbiab
Yes, this is called 'Optimus Technology' developed by nVidia, where your main graphics card is the integrated one and it works together with nVidia dedicated/discrete graphics card to deliver great performance but still save battery live. It's basic, the nVidia one is powerful and the Integrated one is not. But the nVidia one is power hungry and quickly put down battery very quick, where the integrated one does not. So what nVidia do is, when you are gaming, they automatically switch to use the nVidia so the performance is high. When not gaming, you turn of the nVidia one and switch back to the integrated graphics. But this does not work when you don't set it up yet. Don't worry, it's not hard and does not require change on hardware, only software. The first thing to do is, go to your nVidia driver by right clicking on your desktop and choose 'nVidia control panel'. If you can't find it go and download the driver. After you are at the control panel of nVidia, in the left side of that window there is 'Manage 3D settings' Under the 'Select a Task'. Click on that and you see in the other part there is a 'global settings' tab and 'program settings'. Go to the global one and in the 'preferred graphics processor' choose 'High Performance nVidia Processor'. You should then have the optimus technology when you choose apply. The 'program settings' in the other hand is to choose what graphics card you want to use for each program of your preference. So you choose on your program and select your preferred graphic card there.
P.S. Some programs are sadly not supported by the Optimus graphic card, so which means that the program will still run in the main graphics (which is the integrated graphics) and you still have the integrated performance. To get rid of this issue you must to contact your nearest ASUS service to disable the optimus technology.

Photoshop will not resize images
As of today, PSE will not resize images for me. I typically use PSE for this function and am familiar with it.
I thought it might have been the windows update that occurred last night, so I restored my system earlier, but it does not help. I still can't resize images. Any thoughts? Thanks.Operating system?
PSE version?
What are the exact steps you're doing?
What are the details of what's happening when you try?

Why does Photoshop CS6 "Recover" large files that were properly closed in previous sessions?
I'm always fighting memory problems with Photoshop CS6, which I work in for 5 to 8 hours every day. I have a 27" iMac with a 3.4GHz i7 processor, 32GB of RAM,
AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 2GB Ram and over 1.5TB of available scratch disk space. After working thru a couple of large images I have to start monitoring RAM use via Activity Monitor and reclaiming RAM via Terminal very often in order to continue working.
I believe something strange is happening in the background because very often, when I start a new session, PS "recovers" a "large format document"... one that was properly closed in a previous session, and one that I have not asked PS to open. I can't help but feel like my whole memory usage issue is tied to the system somehow holding onto those "large format documents". Am I crazy? Is there any kind of troubleshooting anyone can suggest?
Thanks!
DaveWhat version of O SX are you using?
If your using lion or mountain lion you might see what the restore windows from previous sessions in the General>Preferences is set to:
lion:
1. Click System Preferences
2. Select General
3. Uncheck Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
mountain lion
1. Click System Preferences
2. Select General
3. Check Close windows when quitting an application -

How well does Photoshop Cs6 run on the 15" Macbook Pro with 2.6gHz?
I'm currently 'in the market' for a new computer. My desktop is fine, but no longer can handle all the tasks I can toss at it for work (i.e. graphic design). I have been carefully biding my time, getting as much use out of it and my essentially crummy Paint Shop Photo x2, and I believe now for it to be the time to invest in a Mac and the newest edition of Photoshop (CS6). My question is this: Which one of the two Macbook Pro 15" will work best with it, and yet still survive through the next few series of upgrades? My boyfriend says the higher one, the 2.6gHz guy, will do just fine for what I need, I'm just chewing my nails off at the price. And no, I'm not interested in the retina display model. Suggesting it is just pointless.
Basically, I'd like to know which Macbook Pro 15", the one with 2.3gHz or 2.6gHz, will suffice for the jobs I need to do, which include all areas of graphic design and artwork (hence Photoshop), along with heavy internet usage (7-9+ tabs open at any time), Word documents or the equivalent (Pages) and any extras (iTunes, Spotify). Bonus if it can gently tolerate things such as the Sims 3 and all its expansion packs. The nice thing about the 2.6GHz model is that it comes with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory. The 2.3GHz model only has the NVIDEO GeForuce GT 650M with 512MB of GDDR5 memory. And Photoshop will take advantage of that extra video RAM.
That said, I have an older (late 2011) 15" MBP with a 512MB video card and Photoshop CS6 (and the entire Adobe Design & Web Premium suite) works just fine. If I were you, I would buy the base 2.3GHz model with 4GB of RAM and upgrade the RAM, and possible the hard drive with a SSD, as you need it. You can upgrade your RAM yourself to 16GB and you will notice an appreciable difference in Photoshop speed. And I would recommend the RAM upgrade straightaway. You can then look at putting in a 512GB SSD for around $400 and you'll have one of the fastest machines around.
So go with the 2.3GHz and upgrade the RAM immediately. Good sources for RAM are Crucial, Corsair, etc. You'll get far more out of a RAM upgrade than you will the processor upgrade.

Photoshop CS6 Undo Resize bug?
I notice in CS6 (13.0.1 for Windows) if I size an image down (to let's say 200x200) and then Undo, the image is the original size again but the window frame is still 200x200 (or whatever), and I then have to either drag the frame larger or click the 'Actual Pixels' button to reframe it. CS2 never used to do that and it's annoying as I resize a lot. Is there anything I can do about this?
I suggest giving the Tabbed view a try for one full week. It will seem painful at first, but stick with it. There are advantages.
Like you, WAY back when Photoshop CS4 first came out I was loathe to use the new tabbed view, thinking that I really liked managing my documents in separate windows. For a long time I configured Photoshop CS4 to not open documents in tabs, using the windowed view.
But I always felt that I was paddling a bit against the current - not the way Adobe would rather I use Photoshop.
As it turns out, a problem with a particular plug-in - Genuine Fractals - in which it absolutely would not work properly in windowed view but would work okay in tabbed view, caused me to make what I thought then was a temporary change.
After a week or two, against all odds, and certainly unexpectedly, tabbed view began to grow on me. Long story short, I've never switched back. I've used Photoshop every day since (and I mean literally every day, sometimes all day) using tabbed view.
It's not evil. And it has some advantages.
You're probably thinking, "I'm not like that, I won't be able to stand it".
I thought that too. Try it.

Why does my iPhone randomly resize images?
Suddenly I'll have a string of photos that are only 640x480. The only thing I've down is download all of my images via Image Capture but it's random and does not resize all of them. Then I try to redownload them only to find they are small on my iphone too. I only use the apple camera to take these photos and they have not been sent, edited, or opened with any other app.
I have an iPhone 4s but this has happened on my older phones as well.It could be that someone is using FaceTime to call you! Open the phone application, click on "Recents" on the bottom, and see if that's the case.
