so yea , does doing that gradually damage the battery of the iphone 5 and overtime curtail the battery life and lifespan?? I play fifa 13 on my iphone 5 for lengthened periods until I can feel it get hot almost every day. Is doing that actually harmful to the iphone battery and its lifespan?? im curious becuz before I've seen on the apple battery care web page that heat is the factor that will degrade battery performance the fastest on idevices, so Im just afraid concerned. plz answer
Batteries have an expected number of charge cycles before they degrade and you begin to experience diminished battery life. While heat is a factor that will afect this, overall the number of charge cycles the battery has will remain fairly constant.
You will find if you are using the phone the way you are you would be charging the battery more often and it is this increase in the number of charge cycles that would be shortening the battery life. Does that sort of answer your question?

Since iphone5 6.1.3 upgrade mine has been running hot and totally reduced the battery life. Before I was getting 2days out of it. Now it's half a day ... No new apps and I've been closing down fully all apps. I think something is definitely up with 6.1.3
Are there many others experiencing this?The number of apps that run in the background are very few and far between. An app being in the recently used apps bar or dock means just that for the most part - the app was recently used only and is not running.
Have you powered your iPhone off and on and/or tried a reset which is similar to a computer restart since the update was installed?

I don't know why the battery life has just become so poor. I can listen to 1 song and lose 1/2% battery life. I had all the settings the same as before updating to ISO6 and now it just goes. I did drop it around the same time but I have a stong case so I don't see how this should effect it. If anyone knows how to fix it would be a great help because I used to love iPod but I am very dissapointed.

I am very disappointed with the battery life I am getting out of my Iphone 5S 64G. I charge it every night, and would be lucky to make 15 to 20 minutes of calls during the day and yet I am lucky to get much more than 12 hours of life out of the battery.
I have to make a conscious decision not to use it to avoid it running out on me. I had it back to the Apple Store last week and they ran diagnostic checks on ot and said that the hardware was within specs.
They replaced the software as it was showing that Springboard had crashed on several occasions. The other problem I was complaining about was that at least 2 or 3 times a day, the phone would refuse to wake up when I hit the home button. It would take sometimes up to a minute of pressing the button before anything would light up. The guy at the Apple store said that this was caused by Springboard crashing and that this would also be what is reducing the battery life.
I did notice that after they replaced the software, the waking up problem appeared fixed for a few days, but the battery life had not improved. Now the waking up problem is starting to return.
It is very annoying and somewhat embarrassing when you are with a client and go to make a call and your shiny flashy new Iphone 5 won't even light up. Especially when you have to borrow your clients Nokia....My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Im looking into buying 11'' MBA and i still cant deside if i should upgrade the CPU.
Surely i will upgrade the RAM to 4GB.
But Apple Store staff adviced me that if i upgrade CPU to 1.6Ghz it may reduce the battery life from promised 5hrs to around 4.5hrs... Is that true? Personally i think that is maybe not really true, cuz normally any OS have an option to control and set up a limit of the CPU performance and frequency speed in regards to manage the baterry life... it even can be adjusted either manually or automatically.. am i right? And actually if you dont use CPU intensive programs so it won't consume more power, right? And even in such case also you can set the limit of the CPU performance to save the battery...

And another matter - will the upgraded CPU get overheating sometimes and will it be "throttled" to control overheating ? as i heard...Higher GHz = More Power = Lower Battery Life

It can as with ios 7 it shows you all your downloaded music even if you dont have it downloaded to your phone. You can turn that function off in settings/cellular/music > off. You can also turn off music that isnt downloaded by going to settings/music. show all > off.

I recieved my iPhone 5 3 weeks ago and the battery life completely *****! After doing a few things and maybe using it for about 30 minutes the phone start overheating like crazy then the battery starts dropping very fast. Does anyone know if it's a problem with the iOS or with my phone? And is anyone else expierenceing these problems?
It sounds like you have an app that is incorrectly continuously using data and power... from normal use the phone should NOT be getting that warm... only constant video playing via data like Netflix for example would result in that...
I'd say that you should remove all apps in the recent app tray... tunr phone off... then once you power back on...
Hold BOTH home and sleep wake buttons together until you see a white apple symbol... then release both buttons...
This will ensure you have no apps running...
I've experienced a hang up with mail while out and about that has resulted in this on my iPhone as well... Once I performed these steps it was fixed... it seemed like it got stuck and that's what caused the warm phone and battery drain...
I notived that when it gets stuck (mail app that is) I will see the text connecting at the bottom and it never changes to "updated" like it should... this is my trigger that it's gotten stuck.
Have not really figured out what causes mail app to get stuck yet... -

I have never been so disappointed with an Apple Product such as the Iphone 4s. When I signed up with a new 2 year contract, I received my iphone 4s. I charged it fully the night before, then it didn't even last the day (with minimal usage). I turned off Location Services, Wi Fi, and Bluetooth, this helped a bit. But what is the point of turning these services off, when I NEED THEM!!! The wonderful new Siri doesn't work properly without Location Services turned on.
So I upgraded to the iOS 5.0.1. version - that did absolutely nothing to assist the battery life.
Apple, what are you going to do about it? My new Apple phone is a LEMON!
If I had of known how bad the battery life is on the iphone 4s, I would have got a Samsung Galaxy 2!!!!!It doesn't really matter whether I am talking to Apple or not (and I'm sure they monitor these comments), I want everyone to know how bad this new iphone 4s is, and all of it's problems.
Apple have already launched an upgrade to the software - it obviously did not help, as many around the world would concur.
As far as being patient and waiting for another "update in the works" is concerned, it is just not satisfactory. This is not a cheap phone, and those who are experiencing these problems, should not have to be paying a substantial amount of money, for a very smart phone, that obviously, has some serious problems. -

my iPhone is about 6 months old now and I would say I don't use it that much. Yet for the last month or so the battery life has been going down and today after having charged it to 100% this morning, it was at 5% at 4 pm this aft. help!!
Ok Fellas, let me give you a clue: Games, particularly those that make heavy use of graphics and sound are notoriously power hungry. In fact, when I was in the Navy many years ago, the folks working on the NTDS (Navy Tactical Data System) computers used a version of Space Invaders to load test the AN/UYK-43 computers.
I have also noticed that all of my laptops (I have a brand new Toshiba dual core, an older Toshiba single core, plus 2 Dell dual core machines) have significantly shorter battery life when I play Company of Heroes than when I am just reading e-mail or surfing the 'Net. I have also noticed the same behavior when I play games on my 4th gen Touch and my iPhone 4.
The fact is, iOS 5 did make some major improvements as well as adding some nice functionality like iMessage, wireless synch, and such, but the down side is that depending on how you use the device battery life can be shorter that what you may have experienced with pervious versions of iOS. Its just the nature of the beast...
