Does Power Nap Work on the iMac?

Just Want to Know if PN Works on iMac

Good point, though wake on lan would still be less of a power saver.
My iMac has an SSD... but perhaps the need for such a drive would be lessoned for an iMac that won't be bouncing around as much.
I can see if the CPU isn't ready for it as a good reason.  Otherwise its a nice feature, why not make it available to other systems....  there is no wake on lan on my home iMac, and I'd sure like to see some of this activity happen while I'm away from my desk.
I could see the VPN on demand being nice on an iMac as well.    Kind of "direct access" like?  (Windows feature)

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

  • Does power nap work while logged out?

Will power nap work while logged out and asleep, or do you have to remain logged in?

@Kappy, in my experience Apple does not post support documents that mention unreleased products.  The doc is dated in September.  No 27" iMacs shipped until December.
@Shootist007, the two power nap use cases I can foresee wanting on a desktop would be photostream updates and time machine backups.  When I am on vacation I load a lot of pictures from my camera to my iPad.  I'd love to see those photos updated in my iPhoto library before I even get home.  And, who wouldn't want their backups to happen while they are not using the computer?  As for the doc not mentioning the iMacs see the comment above.
I was hoping that one of the lucky people to have actually taken delivery of a late 2012 iMacs would comment.  Thanks.

    Hi,
I would try a Safe Boot first.  (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions.  (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs.  (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have  Web Browser open ?
This may point to  Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict.  It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing  what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded  apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?

  • My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter.

My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter. I also tried the HDMI to DVI adapter ane the Mac-Mini with same result. The monitor does work on my older Macbook Pro that has the DVI connector. Is it a Software/Driver issue ?

Should be extremely simple, please carefully read Connect multiple displays to your Mac. If you still have problems then it's probably a cable issue that would be resolved by replacing the adapter cable. You should be using this adapter. If you are using a third party adapter that might be your problem!

  • Can PC software work on the iMac G5 with Intel?

Can PC software work with the iMac G5 with Intel processor? I need to know! And also, is there a new apple computer coming out next year (2007) that will be able to run PC software? I am mainly asking because I want to know if I will be able to run PC games on iMac G5 with Intel or the new computer coming out in 2007. I need to know!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
iMac G5 Intel Processor   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows XP.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & XP, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
The Forum is at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology.
    Here is a link;
    Forum: Boot Camp Public Beta
Panther was the version of Mac OS X before the current version, Tiger. Apple Computer does not release information in advance of its introductions of new hardware/software and the rules of the Apple Disussions forbid "speculation." Boot Canp is Beta because it is not yet a permanent part of Mac OS X. It works fine. It does not require constant updates. It comes with instructions for its own installation as well for Windows XP SP2. You have to purchase Windows from Microsoft. Folks report that games run fine and that Windows runs better on their Macs than it ever did on their PCs!
Visit the Boot Camp forum at the above link for further info.

  • Why would one of my MacBook Airs be able to Screen Share from work with the iMac at home while the other MBA not...?

I have 2 13-inch MacBook Airs. Also an iMac.
I could ScreenShare  from both laptops at work with the iMac at home.
Suddenly I can only do so from one MBA, which sees the iMac, no problem.
But the other MBA cannot sse it any longer.
The MBAs can see each other.
All running the same OS and Apps.
    Only difference is...
All have Multiple Apple IDs. ( 2 )
But one MBA was recently set to use the 2nd Apple ID as the main Apple ID
while the other MBA still uses the 1st, as does the iMac.
    What is happening...?

    That's the reason.
Unless you're using VNC or Apple Remote Desktop (which I assume you are not) both the MacBook Air and the the iMac need to be using the same iCloud account.
System Preferences>iCloud and make sure Back to My Mac is checked.

  • Do the sony HD cameras work on the iMac G5 to make a HD movie on DVD?

I was told that the iMac does not burn a HD DVD. Is that true? I was also told that the Sony HD hard drive Camcorder HDR-SR1 has to go through a whole process before you can make a move, and that it actually downgrades it. I was also told that the HDR-HC3 (is the one with the miniDV) is the easiest to convert to the iMac to make a move, but then again it does not make the HD movies. I can't seem to find a difinitive answer. Can I get a HD video camera to work on the iMac? Is the miniDV better than the Hard drive? Does anyone have these cameras and editing? Please let me know, its for a Christmas Present. To go HD or not for the camcorder.

    Hello,
Welcome to the discussions. The iMac along with iDVD will not burn a HD DVD. There are two competing forms for high definition video discs: HD & Blu-Ray.
    http://news.com.com/FAQHD+DVD+vs.+Bluray/2100-1041_3-5886956.html
Currently, a burner for either of these isn't really economical (players start @ $500!).
The AVCHD format of the HDR-SR1 isn't what I would call Mac friendly nor what I would call editing friendly. The AVCHD is a very new consumer codec so who knows what support will be like.
    http://www.avchd-info.org/
Using a mini-DV camcorder is indeed the best and/or easiest way to import/edit movies on any platform. Now some will argue that a HDV camcorder (iMovie does support HDV) is the way to go. Keep in mind that even though the camcorder records in HDV, you still don't have a way to deliver a HD DVD as of yet. As such, the your HDV movie would be down-sampled to SD (standard definition) for burning to DVD. And importing and editing in HDV requires more hard drive space & patience! Personally, a good mini-DV camcorder is the way to go. It is the easiest way to get started, learn the ropes and let some of this HD/AVCHD/Blu-Ray/HD DVD dust settle.

  • Do both of Apple Store's iPod power adaptors work with the new Touch 2G?

    Hi,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
Looking to to get an Apple USB power adaptor for the iPod Touch 2G.
In the Apple Store, two are listed, one smaller (and newer) than the other. In the newer one, the prongs are not retractable; in the larger (older) one, they are.
    1. Does anyone know if the larger (and older) power adaptor works with the iPod Touch 2G USB-only interface?
    2. I know that many power adaptors and speakers and car adaptor sets, etc. in the past had a combo Firewire/ USB power interface. That is why the new iPod Touch 2G (or iPhone 3G) does not charge up or power up with these speakers and chargers, etc. (Speakers such as the original Bose Sound Dock).
    3. Is it true that the older (larger) power adaptor works better in all kinds of power situations (different outlets, etc. in different countries); that the older (larger) power adaptor is more travel-versatile? The Apple store perhaps notes a difference, noting that the newer power adaptor works only with USA-style outlets. I see no such note with the older adaptor.
    4. Finally, does anyone know of a USB-only interface that would work with the iPod Touch 2G that is not Apple's (and perhaps not as insanely priced)?

    Many thanks for further clarifying.
I don't know 100% for sure that the Apple USB cable for the iPod Touch is different than the Apple USB cable for the iPod Touch 2G.
    But:
I have read (somewhere) that the tiny pin connectors are different. That is why an iPod Touch 1G could be charged by (for example) a Logitech mm50 Speaker set and an iPod Touch 2G cannot.
An iPod Touch 2G can still connect to the Logitech mm50 Speaker set. It will still play and you will hear music. But it is no longer charging. And I have read of iPod Touch 2Gs getting very hot in these cradles. That can't be good for the poor iPod in the long run.
So for the Apple USB power adaptors to work, (which both came out before the iPod Touch 2G), they must have some override or blocked pin if they can work with both generations of iPod Touches.

  • Does Snow leopard work on my iMac G5?

Does Snow leopard work on my iMac G5?

Before upgrading to Leopard, be sure to determine if you need Classic.  You won't have access to Classic, unless you erase and partition your hard drive:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61301
Or use an external Firewire hard drive to run 10.4.11 or earlier.   Boot Camp is not available to iMac G5s.  iTunes 9.2.1 offers some compatibility in 10.4 for items you may otherwise want iTunes 10 for which requires 10.5 or later be installed.  See these links:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1056
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes_version_history
You'll need to use the original iMac G5 installer discs to restore your Classic environment, if you find you have to erase or partition a drive, unless you cloned it before.  See my FAQ* on cloning, which you should do before installing anything:

  • Why does Adobe sendnow work and the newest and greatest Adobe Send does not work?

Why does Adobe sendnow work and the newest and greatest Adobe Send does not work? I wasted about 8 hours on trying to get Adobe Send to upload 269 files that amounted to 469MB. When it did not work I made a zip file and after a lot of wasted run time that did not work. The first situation gives little indication of when a file is loaded compared to Adobe SendNow. In both cases with Send it failed with a message like only the first 50 can be loaded. When I went and looked none of them had been loaded. With the zip file (I wanted to hide the individual files so they would not be counted) it appeared to work but very slowly and finally said it was done and I went and looked and it had done anything for oever 2 hours except a false "I'm runninng" indication.
Thus, I took a chance with Adobe SendNow and it works great. It never gave me a limit on the amount of files nor on the size of the complete job. It shows me one file at a time when it has finished with the file uploading it. SendNow has never given me any problems.
Why woiuld you want to change the program from SendNow to Send without the newest program being the best, fastest, user friendly program of the two? It just doesn't make sense to me. I suggest that Adobe keep SendNow working until Send is fixed. I would also suggest that SendNow and how it looks be kept, called Send, then modify Send one thing at a time until you get it to the point you need it to be for Acrobat. I have heard nothing good and now I have experienced it that Send is a piece of junk. I wasted most of my work day on giving Adobe the benefit of the doubt to find out I made a very bad decision to trust Adobe to make good decisions on the transfer of a function to another place .... both Adobe's responsibility.without making it painless for your customers that totally rely on you. Don't throw away customer confidence as it is very hard to get it back.

Funny how you answer to "troll". (What's your handle on AT&T forums?)
Yep! Verizon living up to it's contractual obligations by not releasing updates. Caveat emptor!
I think there are some reasonable expectations here to keep customer's happy. When one carrier offers upgrades there is an expectation the same will happen across all the carriers. We have seen that except Big Red.
Verizon could have said the update is in MS court months ago and stilled the voice of the disgruntled, or at least redirected it, but instead chose to be silent. Not for market share but for partial blame I think.
We will have to agree to disagree since you only see Terms & Conditions and I, see customer satisfaction.

Yes you can. In iPhoto create a Album with the photos you want in it. You can drag them from your Events folder. In iTunes with your iPad connected go to Photos by cliking on your iPad. You can then select the album or events you want.
