Does Preview support PDF JavaScript?

Due to a PDF vulnerability, various security experts are suggesting turning off JavaScript in Adobe Reader. I don't see any way to do this in Preview. Does this mean that Preview does not support PDF JavaScript?

From this link:
-=-=-=-
"There are exceptions. Preview can't open protected PDF files, and it may not render all PDF documents properly. The PDF file format has become extremely complex over the years, including support for JavaScript, embedded Flash content, and other advanced options. Acrobat includes far more extensive controls and content capabilities than simply printing to PDF, especially if you need to manage image resolutions and formats. Of course, this complexity in Reader and Acrobat is where a lot of these security problems come from in the first place.
Since there is no risk unless you open a malicious file with Reader or Acrobat, one of the best steps you can take to limit the chances of future issues (aside from staying up to date with patches) is to set Preview as your default reader. Not that Preview is perfect, but we have yet to see it face the same number of zero day vulnerabilities or exploits."

  • Preview does not support PDF features

I have generated a number of PDF files in Adobe Acrobat that are questionnaires. The intent is to have the users fill out forms, click radio buttons and check boxes within the PDF and using buttons embedded on the questionnaire email them back to me. I have run into many problems with my questionnaires by Mac OSX users. It turns out when they open my Questionnaire (PDF) Preview launches instead of Adobe Reader. Evidentially Preview is the default application for PDFs. Preview does not support "calculations" "actions" for buttons including "submit a form" and does not auto font size in the forms they fill out.
Is there something in Preview that causes this issue that preview users need to do? It clearly appears Preview is not a good substitute for Abode Reader that is free and the standard for PDF viewing.

The issue I have run into is that Adobe has generated a way that you can distribute forms to a large group of people, they can in return send back the data that they filled out. Acrobat can then tabulate the data automatically. It is a very powerful tool.
I don't doubt it. However, it is a purely Acrobat solution. I'm sure there is other software that can do the same thing. Have you considered a web site instead? You could build an HTML page to distribute to people and it would have all the same features. Plus, it would work with any web browser.
The problem I have is Apple has decided to make Preview their default PDF reader application. When a Mac users opens the PDF file things may not work and they do not understand why. They get frustrated and quit filling out the form, therefore locking out getting data from all Mac users. This is an unnecessary burden to put on Mac users!
Then why don't you pick a method that would work with a stock MacOS X machine?
Adobe Reader is free so why compete with a free application??
Adobe Reader is free for end users to download. If Apple included it as part of MacOS X, the would have to pay Adobe many millions of dollars. Furthermore, while Acrobat Reader does have many nice features, it is a slow, bloated behemoth that fewer and fewer people want to use anymore. That is why there are so many other PDF viewers these days - people don't like Acrobat Reader.
I just think they should not have a fully functional PDF reader as the default application for PDFs.
Preview is fully functional. But Apple can't read Adobe's mind and support every new feature that Adobe throws in to try to keep customers. Your PDF solution is an Adobe solution. Adobe software just isn't as ubiquitous as it used to be. Times change. I suggest you look into some other method of form distribution, such as HTML and Javascript.

  • Does Preview compress PDFs when saving?

Hi.  My scanner can group separate scans into a single PDF on its own, but it is significantly slower than scanning documents separately and merging them with Preview.
Since scans are essentially saved twice when going the "merge with Preview" route (once when scanned, again when merged), I'm curious to know whether Preview compresses PDFs with each save.  If so, I'd like to know how lossy this process is.  Anyone know?
Thanks in advance for any help / info!

Preview suck!!! Please for your own sanity use acrobat to edit PDF. Get it from adobe.com

  • Hi. I use ExportPDF. Does Adobe support pdf documents written in Arabic Language? Does it change the documents in arabic language into microsoft word??

I have PDF documents written in Arabic. I would like to convert it into Microsoft Word. Unfortunately I am unable to do this. Please help me in my quiery. Does Adobe PDF converter support Arabic font??

    Hi Yousif04,
If your document has fonts attached you can convert to Microsoft word that is quite possible. But if the fonts were used to create the file arent present in the system the Microsoft word may not be able to retain the layout of the document.
There shouldn't be any problem for ExportPdf service to convert your document.
To check fonts used for that PDF. Open PDF either in Reader or In Acrobat. Click on File go to Properties. Document Property windows will appear there is Fonts Tab. You will the fonts embedded for the document.

Hi... I would like to purchase a Tablet Sony Xperia Z 2 10.1 (the last one of the Z series) and I was told that Adobe does not support Sony anymore.... I need to be able to open and read Adobe PDF files and I would like to know if this tablet can still use Flash Player...
Is there anyo who can help me with this? I asked in the shop and I was told "yes of course" , but when I contacted Sony directly I was advised to check with Adobe as apparently in the recent months Adobe and Sony haven't been getting along anymore...

You may be mixing up two entirely different Adobe products.
    1. Adobe Flash Player. Needed to view web pages designed with Flash. Not needed to view PDF files. Not available for Android (not just Sony).
    2. Adobe Reader. Reads PDF files. However, the Android can also read most PDF files without needing Adobe Reader.

  • Does Safari support a interactive PDF with hidden layers? I'm on version  5.0.3 and the interactive PDF displays just fine, but our web development team tells me all the layers display when they view the same PDF on Safari.

Does Safari support interactive PDFs with layers? Through the use of hidden layers and buttons we built in interactivity that allows the viewers to click on buttons to display different content. When I view the PDF in Safari 5.0.3 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 the PDF displays fine and the interactivity works. However our web design firm tell me the PDF displays all the hidden layers when they view it in Safari. Who's right?

Try updating your Safari to the latest version, 5.0.5.
Also check whether the rest of your system is up to date by going to Software Update in the Apple menu.

  • Does Firefox 4 support remote Javascript debugger?

I have used ChromeDevTools Eclipse plugin and V8 debugger protocol for remote Javascript debugging with Chrome browser.
Does Firefox 4 support remote Javascript debugger?
If then, is there a client tool like ChromeDevTools plugin?
    Thanks in advance.

Symantec have made an update for their add-ons to work in Firefox 4, but they only listed them as compatible with Firefox 4.0, they need to update them to let them work in Firefox 4.0.1. • Does iBooks support JAVASCRIPT in ePub2/ePub3?

    Hi,
I know that "iBooks" provides limited support of JAVASCRIPT in ePub format files (As per the document "iBookstoreAssetGuide4_8.pdf" page 27,28,etc.).
    My question is as follows:
I have created a sample ePub with the following functionality:
By default, Image display shows partial portion of the original image (like thumbnail image) and displays the full and original image after clicking that image.
For the above sample, if first 2 pages contain images that works well in "iBooks" properly (i.e Original image displayed after clicking that thumbnail image) and the rest of the pages (which contains images) displays default image properly but after clicking that default image, it shows only white background without original image.
Is it iBook's Issue or JAVASCRIPT issue? (All images work properly in SAFARI and all other browsers)
Kindly advise how to solve this problem. Also advise if some other method available for the similar functionality.
Thanks in advance for all the suggestions and help.
    Regards,
    Raja. S

iBooks isn't a browser. If your code doesn't work, do it differently.

  • Preview does not support the raw file format of the nikon d300s

preview does not support the files and snow leopard does not provide icon previews either.
is there any date when there will be support for these type of files?
any suggestions on how to open the NEF files with preview in the meantime there is an update?
    regards

any suggestions on how to open the NEF files with preview in the meantime there is an update?
Not with Preview, but Nikon Transfer v1.0.1.3005 is so far happy with 10.6.1 and you may see if there is any advantage there. Take the card out of the 300s and use a reader if you have to.
It usually takes from 3 to 6 months before Apple releases a new/specific Nikon RAW related update, so you are at the beginning of that cycle it would appear...all you can do is wait, sorry.

  • HP does not support Windows 8 Consumer Preview

think those who ask questions on why this does not work, that does not work, no Win8 drivers or printers etc for WIN8 need to realize that this is only a consumer review release, not even a beta, you installed it at your own risk as Microsoft says.
If you read the initial posted here by Walin within this forum it says: HP does not support Windows® 8 Consumer Preview...

  • JavaScript required. The browser that you are using does not support JavaSc

I keep on getting this message when I'm trying to log on to Hotmail
JavaScript required. The browser that you are using does not support JavaScript, or you may have disabled JavaScript
And my browser (IE 6) cannot go to any java links. They either don't load or they are blank pages. I tried installing java, enabling them on the internet options, and even installed a new browser it is still the same thing!!!
I'm very pissed right now but I really really need some help. Sorry for the inconvenience.
    Thank you, Zaragon

JavaScript is different from Java. Somehow, security has gotten turn on in IE. If you go to tools, internet options, security, then look at Internet (for hotmail anyway), hit the custom level button, you will see that scripting has been disabled.
