Does publishing as PDF increase file size? Is there a way to manage this?

I am looking for any ways to reduce file size of presentations. We have to publish as PDF for single file purposes. I know you can change settings in Presenter publishing, but does publishing as PDF have any affect on file size and if so, are there ways to reduce file size?

My Mac has 4 mail accounts coming into it, but you are correct, one of them is a POP account, (and unfortunately it is the main @ account, and is the one associated with my apple id, since we've had it for years).  I couldn't figure out how to replace this with the Imap version, short of deleting that account entirely.
Is this what I have to do?
Thanks for your help!

iCloud email supports 'plus' addressing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_address#Address_tags
So your friend could just add '+research' to the username part of your email address, and you setup a rule at icloud.com to put all emails sent to that address into a particular folder.
    For example:
    [email protected]
There's no way to do it without rules on the server though.

  • Adding Bates numbers to PDFs increases file size by 10x - How to keep original size?

I have a lot of email texts that I converted from Word to PDF and then Bates numbered.
However, Bates numbering made each email's file size go from about 50kb to 500kb.
Once I combine these larger files for uploading to a docket, at the maximum allowable file size is 4 Mb, I can put together only 8-10 emails at a time.  What to do to keep the original file size small when Bates numbering?

    Hi paulu40695891,
Yes, there is a significant increase in the file size when one applies bates numbering to the pdf and saves it.
A workaround for this issue would be to save the pdf file again as reduced size pdf. (File -> Save as other -> Reduced Size PDF. )
Does that helps with your issue? Please revert back for any further query or assistance.

  • Acrobat 7.0.9: Optimizing PDF increases file size?

Audit Space Usage in the Optimize dialog shows "Color Spaces" ballooning from 0.8 MB to 22 MB when a PDF is optimized (goes from 3% of the file size to 58%). File size increases from 23.8 MB to 35.6 MB.
What exactly is happening, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks for any info.

    Hey, Jon
    Interesting...
Original file (300 dpi CMYK images) 23.8 MB
    Images 19 MB
    Color Spaces 0.8 MB
Optimize with flattening (72 dpi images, low quality) 68.7 MB
    Images 49 MB
    Color Spaces 18 MB
Optimize without flattening (72 dpi images, low quality) 68.2 MB
    Images 48 MB
    Color Spaces 18 MB
Not sure why color spaces are down to 18 MB from 22 MB, I used a preset that I THOUGHT was the same one I used yesterday. Regardless, it's bizarre that both images and color spaces are getting huge when optimized.
I used Create PDF from Multiple Files to bring in a bunch of pages, but I'm reasonably sure that all those files were already flattened before I brought them in.
I'll file that transparency tip for next time though, you never know when it might come up.
    Thanks.

  • Somehow my calender was erased. How do I restore it? I have time machine. Fortunately it was synched with Outlook, so I still have it there. But Ical does not recognize the Outlook file. Is there a way to restore from Outlook? resi

Somehow my calendar in iCal was deleted. It was not archived. I have Time Machine. How do I restore? Fortunately it was synched to Outlook, so it is not lost. I would like to out it back in iCal but iCal does not recognize the Outlook file.

Thank you. It's all back to normal (took around 7 hours on the late 2009 iMac). Time Machine's become better now compared to the last time I used it to migrate everything automatically (Snow Leopard days). With Maverick's Time Machine, it's almost like a cloning (except for the password) tool now. But it's always great to name the account and maybe the hardisk the same names so can just replace a newly installed OS.
    God bless. Thanks again.

  • (Using Vista 32-bit) Under Profiles there are 2 .default folders w/some large files. Is there a way to clean this up to one default and put limits on sizes?

I have 2 folders under Profiles with many files. The number of and larger files are slowing my virus scans. The 2 folders are 1enhkbms.default and heql0bzl.default. Can I remove one of these default folders and how do I determine which one along with how do I do it? Can I put limits on file sizes too, ie. the urlclassifier3.sqlite file is 56KB in each folder and the scan seems to slowly slug through it.

It may be better to adjust your virus scans so that they do not check Firefox as frequently.
urlclassifier has been involved in memory leaks in the past, but I am not aware it causes problems at present. The file is involved with Firefox's phishing protection. I am guessing that as it has lists of problem sites the file looks dangerous to your AV and maybe because of that takes longer to check than other files of a similar size.
Unless you have reset Firefox, or have multiple versions and thus multiple profiles a default install ordinarily has just one profile. I usually recommend users disable rather than remove any such unwanted additional profiles. Renaming or deleting profiles with profilemanager may be dangerous in that you may very easily''' stop Firefox from working &/or destroy all your personal information (passwords and bookmarks etc)'''
The default profile is called default. The actual folder itself is xxxxxxxx.default, the xxxxxxxx represents a pseudo random string added to make the folder name unique. You should be able to delete one of the profiles, but make sure it is the correct one. (I suggest initially manually renaming it rather than deleting it).
The easiest method of discovering the current profile is to use
    * '''Firefox Button -> Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> <br /> [Show Folder]'''
On the other profile initially just rename it, add ''old'' in front of the name so it becomes ''oldxxxxxxx.default'' Once you are sure it is not needed you may delete it, and the best method to do that is by using the profile manager (remove the old from the name first) and be very careful that you delete the correct one. I suggest opening and trying each one first. NOTE profile names and folder names may not match. The safest method may be just to delete the folder manually.
(There is a file profiles.ini -- which should not be edited unless you know the rules it uses,-- that )

  • Does adding id properties increase file size?

I tend do use the id property in addition to comments as tool to help me view the layout of components and renderers in the outline view of my workspace. I'm curious whether this is a bad practice if these are properties which aren't necessary to the functionality of a given application and if so, to what extent?.
    Thanks,
    ~B

Every id create a [Bindable] variable, which has more expense than a regular variable. It isn't huge, but I wouldn't assign an id to components that you don't need to reference.

Try closing the Scrabble app via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Scrabble app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Scrabble app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If neither of the above fix it then you could try deleting it and re-sync or re-download it via the Purchased tab.

  • Pdf's file size expansion in OSX

New problem for me.  A colleague sends me a PDF from a Windows based machine.  It leaves his laptop as a 4 MB file.  I receive it on my Mac and save it; it's now a 7.6 MB file.  I write a one line email and attach the PDF; it's now showing up as a 9.8 MB attachment.  When I send it out...the total file is 10.1 MB and it blows up the file size limit of the Exchange Server we use.  (I have not been able to verify the file size limit...so I'm not 100% sure that's the issue preventing sending it).  Local Mac store pros have verified nothing unusual about my Macbook Pro (1 yr old), or the file (double scanned for viruses).
When I replicate the identical procedure on my Gateway PC, the file size remains constant at 4 MB.
It dawned on me that the Gateway has Adobe Reader, my Macbook Pro does not.  Could this be the source of the file size blowing up faster than Kirsty Alley at a pizza joint?
Even if Adobe Reader would solve the problem, I'd like to understand what could be happening here.
Cheers and help is very much appreciated.

Thanks for responding.   What are the differences when OSX encodes it (increasing file size 40-50%) and Windows, which doesn't appear to increase it at all. I would not have been surprised to see moderate increases..but moderate increases from both operating system approaches.  Still perplexed.

  • PDF gaining file size when "optimizing"

I have a PDF that I'm trying to reduce the size of, the original size is around 6 MB, when I have "optimized" the size actually increased anywhere from 9MB to 15MB. There were a few attempts that I do get it to a lower size, but along with that there are missing letters and font issues. I've attempted numerous processes, but can't seem to find one that works. Any suggestions on a fail-safe way to do this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
    j o s e f

Getting rid of fonts is a bad idea if you are making it a web document. However, you could subset the fonts. You might also try FILE>Reduce File Size. There are a lot of options in optimize and you may need to play with those a bit. Bill

  • Help!..CS4 IS INCREASING FILE SIZES.

    Hi all
Wondered if anyone has had a problem with increased files sizes when opening a document up in Photoshop? Anything i open up is increased by two thirds  in file size and i've no idea why ( e.g..8MB doc opens as 24MB doc)
What is even more strange is that it won't let me reduce a  file size to anything under 1MB.
Has anyone ever come across this problem?...would appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Bri

    Hey Noel
    Fair Play.
    This is what is happening.
I’ve got a standard JPEG file that viewed in Explorer and Bridge reads as a 2.70MB (2838,796 bytes) file. Pixel dimensions 797x1000. Document size  6.75 x 8.47cm .Res 300 PPI.
When I open it in CS4 it reads 2.28MB. (This is the first thing I don’t understand)
Either way my simple( so I thought ) objective is to decrease the file size.
In the image size box I have re-set the resolution to 72ppi as I just need to post the image on a Website. My before and after calculations in the image Panel reads (was 2.28MB...now 134.3k)
Great! .this is what I want, However..... when I ‘save as’ and the JPEG compression box appears it has suddenly increased the file to 1.8MB Large file...and only allows me to reduce it to 1.7MB small file.
Admittedly this is not my area of expertise....I’m doing something wrong so any pointers would be much appreciated.

  • Using Adobe Presenter 7 when published to PDF video files do not play just a blank page, any ideas?

Using Adobe Presenter 7 when published to PDF video files do not just a blank page, any ideas? I am using office 2010 and Adobe Acrobat 9 on my PC any suggestions would be very helpful as the audio and slides work fine though no SWF files work just a blank white screen
    Thanks

The problem seems to be with Acrobat 9. Can you share any such pdf generated from presenter at [email protected]
Alternatively, you can try to download Adobe Reader 10 http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=JZEFU and try to view the published output usingthe same.

  • PDF reduce file size filters and CMYK to RGB conversion

This doesn't seem to be on-topic to this forum, but I'm hoping someone here has the expertise to answer my question. We have some scripts which take a series of press-quality pdfs and use the "reduce file size" filter to prepare them for viewing on the web. We run these scripts on a 10.4 machine, and the filter works very well, reliably reducing file sizes of all sorts of pages.
When we tried to upgrade the machine, we discovered that the quartz filtering has changed in 10.5 and 10.6. While it's usually an improvement, getting maybe 5-10% better compression ratios, it has become unreliable in that about 5% of my files fail spectacularly -- they blow up to 3, 4, 5, 6 times the original size.
The other thing that happens is that the 10.5/10.6 filters munge the colors up. I found the solution to this -- in the ColorSynchUtility, make a duplicate of the Reduce File Size filter, and add a Color Management Component called Convert To Profile. This allows me to set a filter that converts the CMYK content to RGB. The problem is that there are about 40 choices of profiles, and it's not at all clear what I should use. Many of them have printer manufacturer's names in them, some say "Adobe", others have cryptic codes (probably referring to various RFCs and schemes). I've tried a couple of the ones that don't look like they are for printers, basically chosen at random. They all produce files of slightly different sizes for the reductions that go well, but on the files that blow up, some filters are better than others. (For example, I have a 5MB page which reduces to 1.4MB with the 10.4 filter, but blows up to 27MB with the "sRGB IE61966-2.1" profile, but only 12MB with the "Adobe RGB" profile.)
    So I have 2 questions:
    1) Is there any way to configure a 10.5/10.6 custom profile so that it behaves as reliably as the 10.4 "stock" PDF Reduce File Size works? It doesn't have to be the most wonderful compression algorithm out there, just so that it never or rarely has a file blow up in size.
    2) For converting press documents to pdfs that are going to go on the web, what is a good "Convert to profile" to use of the 40-some choices on the pull-down menu?

    Cathy,
You have posted your question in a forum dedicated to the Final Cut Studio application Color. It is a very specialized program to grade (adjust) the color in video/film images. We know nothing regarding PDFs.
Have you tried posting this on an Adobe support site?
    Good luck,
    x
