Does "Push" just not work at all?

iPhone 3GS 3.1.3.
Our office just moved our e-mail over to Google Gmail. I set up Gmail with IMAP access. Google Sync is NOT set up at this point (I'm an admin for our Google Apps account). I set up an IMAP account in MS Outlook 2003, and it does a great job of keeping everything perfectly in sync on both sides. If I do something in either Outlook or Gmail web interface, the other is nearly instantly updated.
Seems to not be the case on the iPhone. I set up the Gmail account as directed by Google, turned on Push, but I never get anything until I actually open Mail and check the inbox. It's pretty much acting like Push is off and Fetch is set to manual.

IMAP doesn't provide push functionality to my knowledge. Fetch is set to manual by default - at least in my iPhone4/iOS 4. (Presumably to save juice.) You'd have to enable it manually in settings. Fetch is not as cost effective as push, but hey, this is why BlackBerry has so much business.

I have an SG500-52P switch, and a catalyst 3650 switch. I want to connect two links between the switches, and have STP block one of them for redundancy in the event of a link failure. When I set this up, I got a duplicate IP address discovered message in the 500 switch, followed by the network crashing/locking up from what I can only assume was an STP loop. Show spanning-tree on the 3650 before the crash showed that both of the ports were in FWD state - meaning that STP was not blocking redundant paths.
Verification that STP is running and BPDU's are flooding on the 500 can be found below:

from your outputs seems that both switches understand each-other BPDU's (at least via one link!), because SW500A is not root bridge for that segment and accepts SW3650 to be root bridge.

I hope this is correct behavior as SW3650 is root bridge. This means that all ports on root bridge are designated ports and thus are in FWD state.
The switch-port which should be blocked must be on opposite (non-root) switch SW500A.
But be careful in your scenario: there could be potentially compatibility issue as:
SW500A is using Rapid STP (single - common - instance over all VLAN's)
SW3650 is using PVST+ (Per VLAN Spanning Tree)
the compatibility works in this scenario only in case, that all links between SW3650 and SW500A use VLAN1 as untagged VLAN.
That means: to allow Cisco SW3650 switch running rapid PVST+ or PVST+ to form a common spanning tree with SW500A switch running RSTP or STP, vlan1 (the native VLAN) must be configured as untagged on the SW3650 ports connected to SW500A switch.
If this is not met, it can leads to switching loops. And that could be your case.

Why does Mail completely not work?

I've been using Mail ever since I got my macbook.
Got it linked up with both my hotmail and gmail accounts so I have at least a couple thousand emails on it.
And now when I open it, its just not working at all. It feebly tries to retrieve mail.. When I click onto inbox, sent or even trash it shows me no previous emails.. As if its completely empty. Needs to be force quit for me to exit it.
Anyone else facing a similar problem?

Try deleting non-working accounts and re-creating them. Your emails that made it thru should be in your home folder>library>mail>mailboxes>select mailbox>messages, it will be stored as a .emlx with a numberxxxx.emlx, you will have to sort thru them, but they should be there.

I know how to use about:config & have had the usual problems with newtab page tiles but this is more like a bug- using 33.0.1. Doesn't show tiles icon in top right corner just shows a gear that is used to hide the empty tiles that I can't fill with sites. First it would only show 2 rows of 4 columns even though I had it set to 5 & 6 then few days later for no reason they went empty with a serrated line around the tiles & can't drag from the bookmarks---- really bloody annoying!!!!!!! Possibly a setting in the about:config but i can't fig it out?

Java does not work at all upon using the update manager to update to firefox 3.6.10 for Ubuntu 9.0.4

upon updating to firefox 3.6.10, java does not work at all.
websites that use java do not work at all anymore, when they worked just fine before the updating thru update manager. e.g. hulu website cannot play any of the shows.
i can give the folder of bookmarked pages i tried.
how to do that on here, i've yet to see if possible.
i can even give saved text from the terminal concerning certain attempts.
when i updated thru update manager, it gave some weird java plugin that wasn't there before "The IcedTea Web Browser Plugin IcedTea6 Java Web Browser Plugin (execution of applets on webpages)".
i uninstalled this as instructed by an answer found in one of the pages i saved, cuz it was conflicting w/another java program the updater said i needed. right now, i don't remember for sure what it was. it perhaps was realplayer flash or Java itself. w/all the hours/days of searching i put in, it's difficult if not downright impossible for me to remember all the specifics of what i tried.
i've searched throughout many webpages (including many searches on mozilla, ubuntu, java, etc) for instruction in fixing the problem.
oh, and incidentally, on the Java site, when i try the verify test of Java, firefox pops up with that yellow bar right below the slew of tabbed website windows, giving the statement "additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page. (w/link to) install missing plugins ." which is what i do, go thru the requesting plugin installation. it comes up with, guess what, the IcedTea Java Plugin. i click on the 'next' in the "Plugin Finder Service" box that pops up, & all it gives me is "No plugins were installed. IcedTea ...Plugin failed. and the link 'find out more about plugins or manually find missing plugins'". the link takes me to some of the very things/plugins that wouldn't install in the first place. the Java test failure is a LOL funny, as what plugin it is saying is required (IcedTea) is a recommended alternate program to display the very test in the first place.
i followed the given instructions on those many searched pages, in every case (barring what i may have just plain missed), but to no avail.
i've even gone to the point of trying to reinstall the previous 3.5.13 firefox version, from mozilla site. even that wouldn't install.
i've tried installing Java for my sys direct from it's site. nada.
now it's time for me to post the problem & perhaps someone will come up with some kind of "dummy" way to fix it.
until then many sites a regularly use are totally useless to me on this fast puter.
the only way i can get to use such sites, are two choices: 1. use a dinosaur laptop, which is slower than molasses & cannot handle to any streaming stuff, or 2. use an available internet access puter at the library. but useage for ea person per day is limited to only one hour a day. and one can end up waiting for an hour or more ( in the busiest periods) to even get to use one.
so, is there anyone at all, who knows any for-sure working fix for this problem?

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC? Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Have you also worked through each and every single troubleshooting suggestion in this Apple support document?

Firstly, try a hard reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
If this doesn't work, try restoring your device. Put it in recovery mode if iTunes doesn't recognise it, and restore it from there. I have linked to instructions below.

Most likely, water damage.
You can try putting your iPod in a tupperware, half filled (maybe half inch) with rice grains, close the cover for about a week.
If you have done this, as soon as it got wet, higher chances of success, now looks like the water moisture is getting to the LCD screen.
Then you can always bring it to Apple Genius bar, for a an overhaul. (may cost you half the price of a new iPod classic.)

Just downloaded Firefox 4 on Windows Vista 32-bit and its not working at all.

So I just downloaded Firefox 4 on Windows Vista 32-bit, and it's not working at all. I open up Firefox and there is not tab bar, and all the command buttons are repeated 3 times, and are on 3 different bars. This only happens with Firefox 4 and not Firefox 3.6.10. Also, when I go the menu bar and I try to click soething, nothing happens. I'm not sure why this is going on. Help anyone? Here is a link to a screenshot of my browser.

I have this too, but doesn't even startup now? I downgraded to the previous version and all is OK. I also have a 64 bit version of Vista and it seems to work "a-OK" on that machine.
Seems to me to be 32-bit issue.

I just seen a possible answer...Do you have roboform installed (in the taskbar also)? If so, try disabling it or removing it and try to start again. I said above that I have 2 units and on the one (32-bit) I have Roboform installed and it crashes, but on the other one I don't...so go figure.
According to the report I read, if you upgrade Roboform it should be OK, although I have not tested as of yet...I am still at work...

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
-When it says place the iPod in recovery mode use this program instead of the buttons.
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

An external hyperlink should handoff to Safari and leave iBooks.
If that's not happening, perhaps there is something misconfigured on your iPad? Have you manually confirmed those links work in Safari on your iPad?

IPhone 4 Does not charge or get recognized by laptop and the home button does not work at all.

Si, pude solucionarlo hace unos dias, al final me arriesgue y compre el "dock connector", un juego de destornilladores para iPhone 4, lo desarme y lo cambie, y al toque empezo a cargar.
No queria esperar semanas para el repuesto de iFixit asi que lo compre en MercadoLibre, estan 160 mangos, y si no te queres arriesgar a desarmarlo y cambiarlo vos, hay algunos que te hacen la instalacion tambien.
Pero primero averigua bien que tengas el mismo problema que yo, o sea el dock connector sirve para lo q describi arriba. Si tenes otro sintoma te recomiendo que investigues porque capaz es otra cosa y terminas gastando un repuesto al pedo.
