Does QT Pro edit soundtracks simply?

A really basic question before I spend $30....
QT plays videos recorded with my camera in movie mode fine. I just can't do much editing. If I upgrade to QT Pro will I be able to edit the soundtracks separately from the video? (Specifically, can I eliminate stupid things I said while my wife was recording...?)
Thanks, in advance

If you are trying to edit your voice from a soundtrack this is very difficult to accomplish.
If you're trying to replace the whole soundtrack with silence you can do this for free using various editing tools. QT Sync lets you remove tracks from a movie.
I only have a very, very old version of QTPro so I don't know the capabilities of the newer versions. I don't think I could selectively silence segments of a track with QTPro. I would have to take movie, isolate the audio track, then use an audio editing program such as Amadeus or Audacity to silence segments of the track, then recombine with the video.

    hello
i just had a quick question, does quicktime Pro edit movies?? my main interest is in aligning dialogue and scenes. i downloaded a few videos off of google video and the sound is 2 seconds ahead of the picture, so was just curious if this could edit that or if any other programs can me recommended
    thank you!!

I was new to the program and studied the possibilities by doing it.
I'm not aware of a tutorial that explain in detail what to do.

I recently moved and had to disconnect my WD My Pro Edition II 2TB external drive I had been using for backup.
Its been several months (many upgrades to the iMac software during this time), and now when I try to reconnect the external dire (Use a firewire cable) it does not recognize the drive is there.  I also tried "reloading" software from the Western Digital site, but after following all the instructions, it looks like my iMac doesn't support this software (I can't even locate it after I follow all the instructions.
Thnaks,  for anyones ideas on how I can get this working again.....

First of all, you do not really want to use their software; if you want a bootable clone, use either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. If you simply want to drag and drop some files, you don't need software to do that. The important thing on any external drive is that you format/partition it correctly (Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and using GUID partition scheme).
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about WD drives or their software, so I don't have any idea what kind of backup you did. Having said that, it should still recognize the external even if it's outdated. Have you tried mounting it manually in Disk Utility? If you can get it to mount, you could (worst case scenario) just drag your stuff off onto your internal and then reformat the external.

  • Does anyone know how to simply edit the text in the spine of hard cover, 40 page book in the book mo

Does anyone know how to simply edit the text in the spine of hard cover, 40 page book in the book module? I can click into any other text window and edit and change attributes but I am locked out of editing text when it comes to the spine of the book. I spoke to Blurb support and they referred me to Adobe. I spent 45 minutes with support here - no one knew. I am still waiting for a call back with an answer... not holding my breath as it's been a few hours now. HELP!!!

Thanks for your reply John. I have experienced all the fiddly aspects you mentioned - these are attributes and although changing them requires the skill of a surgeon's hand - it's the actual editing of the text I can't seem to access anymore. The box just won't allow me to do anything except change attributes. Does that make sense? And it's only on the spine where I am having this issue. Puzzled! I have even rebooted the program and just now the computer - to no avail.

Video is the magic word for fast CPUs, large screens, maximum RAM and large HHDs.  Ditto what eww says and do not order RAM and HDD upgrades through Apple.  It is much, much less expensive through third party vendors.
    Ciao.
I do some video work myself so I have an understanding of your needs.

Does Logic Pro X include replacement functionality for Compressor, Soundtrack Pro and Waveburner from Logic Studio 9?

No..  You can buy the Compressor (along with Mainstage) via the App Store as a separate download but STP and Waveburner are discontinued products. Some of STP's functionality can now be found in Final Cut Pro X...
Note: Mainstage, Compressor, Waveburner and STP were part of the full version of Logic Studio 2.0 (which also included Logic Pro 9 ) and sold for $999 compared to Logic Pro X which retails at $200...
The Apple loops/Jam packs that came as part of Logic Studio 2.0 now come free with Logic Pro X (and did so with the Appe store version of Logic Pro 9) .. as part of the additional downlaod

  • What does GarageBand have that Soundtrack Pro doesn't?

I'd like to see an up-to-date list of functionality that is available in GarageBand but not in Logic Pro or Soundtrack Pro. Can anyone direct me to such a list already on-line, or name some items? I've seen the old "STP - Logic - GarageBand Compatibility" thread, but it doesn't seem to give the detail I need.
    Thanks.

    Logic has everything
    that GB has even more.
Actually, that isn't true. As mlehmann said, Logic doesn't let you add podcast artwork.
I also believe GB has a feature that automatically records and compiles ichat sessions, with each participant on a separate track.

  • Does Premiere Pro support a "self-record" mode?

Does Premiere Pro support a "self-record" mode? It would record a new video with the source being what you are previewing, in terms of "animation" rather than in terms of the quality seen on screen. I often like to make humorous effects by dragging the time indicator back and forth, and have to resort to recording my own screen while in semi-fullscreen mode, then import that video and crop out the chrome. This obviously is not optimal and results in significant quality loss. Does Pr itself have such a feature built in?
I doubt it does, but it would be extremely useful.

Ditto what mark said. The intended purpose of the project manager is basically to do just as you said. It was a great solution for anyone that wanted to store the few usable minutes of their media and were confident in just discarding the rest. The problem is that, as Mark said, it doesn't handle the trimming of all common file types these days. That's because, in video, 'destructive' editing is always a matter of re-exporting edited versions and project manage simply cannot export every format to any format. The original files are never actually being trimmed down, you're just getting new versions to replace the old ones with. This represents another drawback in the form of generational loss. That's why the Project Trimmer many not be the ideal solution for you even if it is able to trim all applicable formats for you.
I tend to agree with Jim and thing that the better way to go is with Prelude. With that app, you can log what you want before hand and then capture (or, more accurately, 'Ingest') just those parts from the start. Still, it might be a good idea to save the original footage on memory card(s), hard drive(s)s (or , dare I say, tape(s_?). That way if you find out later that you didn't capture (or ingest) all of what you wanted, you can always go back and get it. Also you'll have an additional backup which could easily be re-captured from the original source if you've save the prelude project(s).

  • Will QuickTime Pro Edit mp4?

I own the Madonna: The Immaculate Collection on DVD. I have converted the VOB file to mp4, but it is 62 minutes long. Every video is included in the one file. I want to break the videos down individually for my iPod. I don't mind spending the $30 to upgrade my QuickTime to pro it it will allow me to do this. If not, does anybosy know another program ($50 or less) that will? I've also read some user reviews on QuickTime. Are there a lot of bugs/issues with Windows XP? Thanks.
      Windows XP

    Will QuickTime Pro Edit mp4?
Yes, but it may not be the best solution in all work flows. Converting and then clipping into segments is a viable solution that will save the final product as an .mov file even though the movie is still in its original format. Reversing the work flow, however, and clipping the file into segments first is not very accurate owing to the way in which the sequential blocks of audio and video data are stored in the file.

A cheaper and perhaps better solution would be to dowload the free Windows version of MPEG Streamclip and use it. Since it employs an MPEG based player/editor window, you can accurately set in and out points for the decrypted VOB and convert the segments directly to individual iPod compatible files. In addition, filters are available to change brightness, contrast, saturation, and/or volume, as well as, custom cropping with improved scaling as part of the conversion process. In some ways, it is also easier to use than QT Pro.
I've also read some user reviews on QuickTime. Are there a lot of bugs/issues with Windows XP?
If you really don't want to use Apple's QT tools, MPEG Streamclip for windows will also use the QT Alternate software instead. I personally don't find QT to be "buggy" to any real degree. Most of my problem have been traced to use of the QT H.264 codec at low video data rates. The "predictor-corrector" routines appear to be written for use at higher data rates (my guess would be in the 2.0 mbps to 5.0 mbps range) and so tend to be slow to "clamp" video data rate excursions in excess of user settings below 1.0-1.5 mbps with certain vintage video content. As I use the Mac version, I'm stuck with QT 7 and simply make adjustments as needed for a 100% conversion success rate for the nearly 400 videos currently on my iPod.

  • How much does Premiere Pro and After Effects rely on the hard drive it's installed on?

This may be a really dumb question, but how much does Premiere Pro and After Effects rely on the hard drive it's installed on if all your video files, assets, disk cache, etc are on different drives than the one the program itself is installed on?
The reason I am asking is that I currently have a "relatively" slow Sata II SSD for my C drive that has just my OS (windows 7 64bit) and programs (adobe editing programs, no games) installed on it and nothing else. All of the files used in my projects are saved on either a very fast Sata III SSD or a slower HDD depending on what the files are. For example, disk cache on the Sata III, stills on the HDD.
Being cyber monday I have the opportunity to buy another very fast Sata III SSD to replace my current Sata II SSD C Drive (just OS and programs). Both synthetic and real world benchmarks show a near double in performance. I just want to know if anyone thinks the upgrade is even worth it because for all I know there won't be any increase in performance since no videos, still, cach, etc will be stored on the C Drive.
The alternative is to get a second monitor because I currently only use one 21" monitor.
I suppose another alternative would be to not buy anything on the cyber monday deals and just save money for something else.
Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Alex! I think you are right about not being able to notice the difference between the SSDs. I ended up finding a deal to get about $80 off a great monitor that I've been looking at for a while and decided to pull the trigger on it. I thought about it and realized that there have already been a bunch of times where I want to watch a tutorial on youtube and follow allong in AE or PrePro, but have to keep switching windows. I also frequently want to have my video preview on a separate monitor so I can have a taller timeline window. This monitor will help a lot with that. Thanks again for your help!

Why Does Premiere Pro CS4 Import Only 10 Seconds Of Layered Photoshop CS4 .psd??
I have a 24 second clip I layered in Ps and when I import the psd into Pr THE SEQUENCE IS ALWAYS ONLY 10 SECONDS!
How can I change this?  Why does this happen?  I really need to know as soon as possible.  I have a video project due this Wednesday (granted it's for an AV class where I'm just learning Pr.  But I can learn VERY FAST!)
    Thanks for your help.
    --OSXniCKels

Just in case I wasn't clear in my last line "just Click-drag on the Tail of your .PSD to set the desired Duration," once you have Imported your .PSD (as Footage), just drag it to the Timeline, Click-drag on the right-hand margin (the Tail) and stretch out its Duration, as is required.
Now, if you Imported as a Sequence, open that Sequence's Timeline, and do the same.
I normally will set my Edit>Preferences>Still Duration to about what I think will be applicable, do my Import, and then with the Info Panel handy, just alter the Duration to suit.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • IDocumentQuery.Execute() method throws user does not have edit permissions exception

I'm trying to query a document folder for all of its containing documents. Its a basic query like this:
    IPortletContext PortletContext = PortletContextFactory.CreatePortletContext(Request,Response);IRemoteSession PTSession;PTSession = PortletContext.GetRemotePortalSession();IDocumentManager documentManager = PTSession.GetDocumentManager();
    IDocumentQuery documentQuery = documentManager.CreateQuery(FolderID); documentQuery.SetSortProperty(ObjectProperty.Name);IObjectQuery queryResults = documentQuery.Execute();
When I'm logged into the portal as an administrator, everything works fine. However if I'm logged in as a "regular" user, I get this exception when calling the Execute() method:
Plumtree.Remote.PRC.PortalException: Exception of type Plumtree.Remote.PRC.PortalException was thrown. ---> System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. --> Access denied: Current user does not have edit permission
I'm sending the Login Token to the portlet. Now I've tried giving the user Edit rights on the document folder as well as Edit the Knowledge Directory rights in the Activity Manager, but neither gets rid of the exception. I'm not sure what other "Edit" permissions to check. I don't even see why the user would need "Edit" permission to anything in the first place since the Execute() method simply returns an IObjectQuery that doesn't have any ability to make changes to any objects. I know that I could use the SearchFactory interface, but I wanted the results to be real time. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
    Jimmy

The problem here is that the query is created with default settings to show unapproved documents -- only users with edit access can see unapproved documents. Add the bold line to your code and it will work.
    IDocumentManager docManager = prcSession.GetDocumentManager();IDocumentQuery docQuery = docManager.CreateQuery(iFolderID);docQuery.SetShowUnapproved(false);IObjectQuery queryResults = docQuery.Execute()

Why does macbook pro block and restart with the latest software update?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for crash or panic reports. If you don't see that heading, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". It may be under either of the two subcategories, "System" and "User." A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic".
Select the most recent of each and post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as a hang log — they're very long and not helpful.

  • WD Mybook Pro Edition.......how to get it started?

I bought a WD 500GB w/out Firewire and many people posted I should get the Firewire edition. I returned it and now have a WD 500GB Pro Edition w/Firewire. I hooked it up and downloaded everything.
Im sure this is out there, but how do I save my data (pics, video, and files) onto this hard drive? I was on the WD website but not much luck. I am a new Mac owner and still Windows oriented (but trying to change that). Thanks for any help in getting started for saving my files to my new hard drive. I have a Macbook 2.0 Core 2 Duo. Thanks for any help.

I use a WD and it works quite well. I'm assuming that you do not have your laptop hooked up to it 100% of the time. Are you just using it for extra storage such as backups? Either way, when you plug in the drive via either firewire or usb, it will appear on the desktop. Double click to open, and create new folders. You can then drag and drop, or save to files just as you would any other folder in osx. Without a little more specific info as far as what you want to do, I can only give a limited answer. Hope this helps some. And iphoto does work fine with multiple drives. If you hold down option when clicking the iphoto icon, it asks you what location you want to open. You can then have folders on different drives and still use iphoto. By the way, welcome to mac. Hope all is good so far. These forums are very helpful. Everyone here has always been great to me.

  • Does Premiere Pro 2 use graphics card for playback?

Does Premiere Pro 2 use graphics card for playback? I am using a 350W PSU, so my nVidia 6600GT runs in low-power mode, and my video playback in Premiere is choppy. The same .avi files play fine in a media player, so it can't be a disc issue I guess... Please advise, thank you!

Only the latest CS5 uses SELECTED card's GPU for video acceleration
    >same .avi files play fine in a media player
Playback is not at all the same as editing
Use the FREE http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to find out what codec is inside that AVI wrapper
Anything other than DV AVI type 2 with 48khz sound is not going to do well in Premiere
