Does Quicktime 7.3.1. have capture problems?
Are there still problems capturing video on FCP or Xpress using Quicktime 7.3.1. or later?
I'm using Quicktime 7 which does work, but for some time any newer version of Quicktime would not capture video more than 5 mins.
Has that problem been solved?

It's not certain you will have problems. If you already have FCE 3.5.1 installed, try it on a new project. It will either work or not. For what it's worth, because you're running Leopard (10.5.x), I'd suggest upgrading to FCE4 regardless.
Since you're already on 10.5.5, QT 7.5.5 and iTunes8, it would be painful to try downgrading QuickTime and iTunes to previous versions, so I don't recommend that alternative.

Does Aperture 3.4.1 have a problem with Epson printers?
I bought a new 27" iMac and Mountain Lion and migrated my files from the old iMac. Now when I'm in the Epson 2880 print menu (i.e., Print Settings) the computer freezes when I want to go back and change an Aperture setting ("brightness," for example). I have to Force Quit the program to get out. I didn't have this problem before I upgraded.
Also, the choice of "Advanced Black and White" is grayed out in the Printer settings now, whereas in my old iMac it is there.
Also, the printer utility doesn't seem to work, whereas it worked before.
Also, I frequently get a message when I want to relaunch Aperture about rebuilding or repairing my library because of inconsistencies (I forget the exact verbiage).

I think there has been an upgrade already since I'm now using Printer Utility 4. And here's another thing: I can go to the System Preferences to activate the Print Utility and see my ink levels, but I can't do it out of the Applications menu. When I click on Printer Utility I get this message: "The alias “Epson Printer Utility 4” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found." Strange?
I noticed in the Print dialogue menu a clickable item that is not in the old dialogue: Unsupported PDE.
I'm still crashing if I try to get out of the print menu. -
Why does my MacBook Pro still have disk problems even with replacement disks?
I have a 2008-era MacBook Pro. In January it failed to boot. I took it to Apple and paid for a replacement system board. When it came back they told me the hard drive was also bad and they had replaced it.
About a month later my performance became very bad. A test of the hard disk revealed unrecoverable errors. I reformatted the disk and restored from Time Machine. About a month later, the same problem surfaced. This time I took it back to Apple and they put in a replacement hard drive.
Now here I am about a month after that and the hard drive has asked to be reformatted twice again.
What is REALLY wrong and how do I get it fixed?How does the disk test which checks the drive have to do with corrupted data?
Let me clarify:
1. System gets slow.
2. I run the Disk Utility > Verify disk.
3. It reports data corruption errors and and says to run Disk Utility > Repair Disk
4. I run Disk Utility > Repair Disk
5. It says errors are such I need to run it from the Utilty partition
6. I restart from the Utility partition and run Repair Disk
7. It reports it can't fix the problem. Tells me to erase the disk and restore.
8. I do all that.
9. Now I run Verify Disk again. All is well, and all continues to be ok for several weeks.
So, if the Time Machine backup was corrupt, step 9 above would fail.
Since this is the third hard disk since January, I doubt that the problem is REALLY the disk. -

The 3rd generation iPad runs iOS 5 which is compatible with the original iPad and iPad 2.

I have been trying to burn a CD (tried audio cd as well as mp3) on several playlist that I have used before and keep getting this message:

I do not believe this note is revelant for the following reasons:
1) because i have been using this brand and batch of blank cds for several years. they work great.
2) speed is not the problem as i have tried several speeds including the slowest... never has this issue been a problem before.
3) the disc drive works.
I had my mac book pro repaired (sound card, display and logic board replaced in Feb 2011. currently running latest version of OSX.

Capturing with SONY HVR DR60 keeps asking me to render for audio alone...is there any ways which will not ask me for audio render.....dv is a 'dv stream', much like what iMovie captures. You should be using an FCP (.mov) compatible codec, like DV-NTSC for MiniDV.
What are the full specs on the originally shot media? -
This is issue we've been struggling with for a couple months now, originally thinking that it was an FCP version problem. Now we have been running FCP 5.1.2, Tiger, and QT all at their latest versions still no improvment.
The problem is we shoot a tape with our SONY HDV-Z1U and log the clips in FCP. When we go to batch capture many of about 25% of all these clips have capture problems. Final Cut detects timecode breaks and captures 2,3,4, sometimes 15 versions of these labeling them clip, clip-1, clip-2, etc....
You can actually see these wierd glitches and jumps on the camera LCD and on the FCP capture window. Sometimes the camera will rewind itself over and over trying to find the proper IN on the tape.
It seems like someone out there has had to run across this issue because this is such a common camera and such a common task. I'm almost worried that it's a camera problem and I don't even know where I would go to ask about something like that. I have not been albe to find any documentation that this model camera has TC problems.
Please, help or point me in the right direction it must just add a couple years to my life!!!
Thanks.I have a ZU1 and I occasionally encounter this problem, but it's usually one clip out of say 25 or 30 on a given tape. I'm never sure what causes the problem and if I simply skip the problem clip I can sometimes go back and digitize just that one last clip.
I do know the ZU1 seems to need plenty of pre-roll in the front of the tape, but I'm assuming that's not the problem. You're using new, high quality tape, correct? Have you tried a simple head cleaning on the ZU1. -
Why does Quicktime tell me it can't play certain videos created with my Phantom 2 v3 drone ? I fly the drone and switch back and forth from video to still pics and while I may have filmed four videos , sometimes Quicktime tells me that one of them can't be played . Checking the info shows that each of the unplayed videos was saved in the same mp4 format as the playable ones yet some of my most important videos won't play . It's getting very frustrating .
first; I use Perian, that helps even though it is no longer supported, (must have for avi files)
the apple-cores at apple have gotten very sloppy -- quicktime is a bit finicky and flakey.
example, occasionally (when copy file from quad's card to hard drive) the avi will show up as a 'mov' file and qt plays it no problem and no conversion.
but that is very occasionally, most of the time qt won't convert the file, -- iMovie won't open an avi without Perian installed , I don't know how that effects qt.
qt 7"pro" is no good either, (qt 10 does everything it does and for NOT the extra $35)
I have gone to VLC and MPlayerX for direct playback for drones and cameras. -
when starting imovie I get an error missing quicktime components. To solve the problem I have upgraded to latest version but it didn't help. I want to either solve this problem or get a refund for the useless upgrade.
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:

Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
iMovie does not, AFAIK, use QT 10. -
I have quicktime pro and it does NOT have the screen record mode that Quicktime is suppose to have. Can I uninstall it and go back to an older version that would have screen recording? If so, how? Step by step needed. Thank you for your time.
Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above. -
My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?
I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work). "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon. -

I can confirm the problem you are hitting. The XML test trace does not get recognized at all, and it defaults to Eclipse's basic Open File behaviour. I am not sure if it's because the format definition is missing, or if it's because something prevents the trace type from being recognized. I will open a bug about it.

I did what you've told me, new account and manually copied my files from Time Machine. I had lots of permissions problems, but at the end, almost everything is in order... It seems it had to be with some of the Apple Preferences, but I can't be sure, as most of them were dumped to the trash can.
I still don't have my Mail Rules back, unfortunately, although I did goggled some. It is a pity, as I had around 30 or 40 of them, getting my mail in order to each of its mailboxes, but it is a small price as the rest doesn't show the before syntoms.
