Does quicktime still have to be divisble by four to run well?

I am creating a multi-screen display using two sets of two 20" samsung 1680 x 1050 monitors. The system will run on a custom built PC. The Quicktime movies will play at full screen across the entire width and height of 3360 x 1050.
I want to make sure before I purchase the screens that quicktime will run well - even though the 1050 height is not divisible by 4. Does this ring a bell? I HOPE it's no longer an issue!
Thanks.

Thank you for the clarification. Ok, let me try to address your questions.
1. Because I will be using my older G4 computer as the Host ( is this the correct term ) will my internet or wifi signal have less throughput ( is this the correct term ) then say if I used my new iMac as a host ?
Technically any network client that will share a resource with others on the same network would be deemed a "host" device. With the G4 connected by Ethernet it will NOT affect the throughput of the wireless network. Both your G4 & new iMac have Gigabit Ethernet ports which are significantly faster than that provided by the Linksys router ... so it would be the Linksys, not the G4 that would limit the maximum throughput.
2. I have set up this network with the G4 right next to the iMac to see how it would work and all was well ( except for the drop wifi issue, that I hope the new update has fixed ), however when the G4 is asleep it was not recognized in the network.
The short question is does the host have to be running ( not in sleep mode ) in order for it to be recognized in a network?
Yes.
If so is there a way to wake it over the network.
Yes. Using System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter > Wake for network access (checked)
3. I am using an older router a Linksys wireless - G 2.4 Ghz, can I use the newer Airport Extreme with the G4- 10.4 ?
Yes. In fact with the newer 802.11n AirPort, both Macs (if connected by Ethernet) will have full Gigabit Ethernet support.

  • Patch for Macromedia Director 6.0 Upgrade for Windows - DOES ANYBODY STILL HAVE IT?

    Hello, I am a collector of 1990's multimedia who likes seeking out older, pre-Adobe versions of Director. I have the upgrade version of Director 6.0 for Windows, and it's unfortunately part of an early batch that comes with a corrupted copy of the Projec32.skl stub projector file, rendering 32-bit projectors made with the upgrade version of Director 6 for Windows unusable (only 16-bit projectors will work).
    Macromedia released a patch on their old website to address this issue shortly after the release of Director 6 back in 1997, but I can't find it anywhere on the Internet these days. Does anyone still have this patch, and if so, can you share it with me? (FYI, the filename for the patch is "D6wpatch.exe") Or, alternatively, if any of you still have the full, non-upgrade version of Director 6 for Windows, can you share the Projec32.skl with me? (it can be found in Director's installation directory, normally "C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Director 6")
    Thanks if you can provide any help,
    Ryan
    (EDIT 10/26/2012: addendum about alternative sharing method was added to the above text, since Director 6 and prior versions are getting harder and harder to find on eBay these days)
    UPDATE 11/23/2012: I finally found the solution... after calling Adobe tech support to no avail (they searched, but didn't find it - they said that all the old Macromedia files got lost after they purchased Macromedia a few years back), I managed to solve the problem myself! I manually extracted the projector stub code from a working 32-bit Director 6 projector executable in a hex editor, and saved that code as a separate projec32.skl file. I replaced the corrupted projector stub, and I proceeded to make a 32-bit projector with a small test movie I made. And guess what - it worked! Thanks, everyone, for viewing this post. I hope that helps!

    After countless hours of reading I finally discovered what the problem was. I did not read thoroughly through the support documentation which allows a person to update their IPOD video very easily simply follow the directions "and I mean the entire directions" within the following link. I would also strongly suggets following the area which state to d/l Quicktime separately from Itunes. This completely rveresed my problems, and now I have a great functioning IPOD once more.

  • Does anyone still have problems with Premier Pro on Maverick? and is there any known fix?

    Does anyone still have problems with Premier Pro on Maverick? and is there any known fix?

    I know OSX 10.9 Mavericks introduced a power saving feature called App Nap which is meant to slow down applications that it determins are inactive (or when minimized). This would mostly likely cause problems if you're dynamically linking After Effects comps to your timeline or sometimes exporting to Media Encoder.
    Try disabling App Nap for all your Adobe App files...
    Go to your Applications folder
    Go into individual Adobe app folders (ie. Adobe Premiere Pro CC)
    Right-click on the Adobe app file (ie. Adobe Premiere Pro CC.app) and select Get Info
    When the info window opens up, add a checkmark beside "Prevent App Nap"
    Restart the application
    This fixed all my performance issues.

    Thank you.  I had found the us playlist page you directed me to.  Because I had seen no compilation dates more recent than 2006, I wondered if this was no longer a feature of iTunes.

    Be advices that the newest iMac's are basically SEALED Units and taking it apart in any way, other than removing the Memory slot cover to add more RAM (That is on the 27" model. The 21.5" is completely sealed), will void the warranty on it.
    Not only that but the screen is Glued to the aluminum casing and if you do pry it off with damaging it you'll need new adhesive strips to remount it.
    Not worth the efford or the cost when you can buy mat any other brand computer for less money and do all the upgrading you would ever want without ever voiding the warranty or breaking something in the process.

    I don't think that would apply to the Classics.  The store ought to have, for example, a free Chinese language edition of the Art of War, which can be obtained from Project Gutenberg.  But it does not (or I can't find it).

  • Having bought Aperture, does iPhoto still have its uses?

    I've wanted Aperture for the longest time, planned to buy the box later this year, then the App Store offers a lower-cost download and it's on my iMac. Unopened.
    The Discussions tell a lot, including there's a learning curve and 8 GB of memory is much better than my 4 (I'll disable Face Recognition). What I most want are the editing tools and the separate libraries.
    There's 2540 photos in iPhoto and while it will be great to re-work some, the great majority won't be touched. So my question is, would it make sense to keep iPhoto going -- even continue to use it for simple snaps? Is there a problem with that?
    One reason for my caution is I had big problems with a recent iMac migration and I read of others loosing photos when moving to Aperture -- or not knowing where to find them.
    Thanks . . . Fortes

    You're caution in approaching Aperture is a good thing. While it is relatively easy to get it up and running in a short period of time and to get you iPhoto library into it, it is highly unlikely that you will get it the way you want it on the first attempt or second or third. It's a lot like chess, the moves can be learnt is a short period of tim you'll spend a lifetime learning the game.
    For that matter at this stage you don't really know how you want. Until you have used Aperture for a while you won't know how it works, it's strengths and it's weaknesses. Even reading everything you can get your hands on won't make up for the actual experience of using it and finding out that that elegant plan you had for the library setup fails flat when something you hadn't thought about pops up.
    Here's how I made the switch from iPhoto to Aperture. Knowing that I would't get it right the first time, I made sure I would have the ability to totally blow away whatever I had done and start fresh. This meant having backups of everything. This can't be stressed enough. Knowing that you can go in and try anything you like in Aperture and if it fails you can get rid of it all is very powerful and will accelerate you're learning.
    When I was ready to make the switch, first I froze iPhoto. Nothing went into iPhoto after that, I then created a new Aperture library called +Camera Holding+ which I used to import everything I shot after that date. This library was setup with a very basic one project per shot setup. Nothing fancy just a place to keep my new images until I was sure I had Aperture setup like I wanted. This library was also vaulted to to separate HDs.
    Now the fun part experimenting and learning Aperture. I imported my iPhoto library numerous times trying one setup and then another. I also created separate libraries for the images I was currently shooting and tried various library setups and import strategies with those. I must have spent close to 3 months before I was ready to totally commit to Aperture. And even now 6 months latter has I've used it more I not totally satisfied with my setup but at least at this point its mostly minor tweaks to the structure so they can be done in place. But I still have numerous experimental libraries to try things out in.
    So take you're time and remember the best way to get comfortable with the program is to not have to be worrying about messing up and destroying your images.

  • So I recently downloaded iTunes on a new computer because my old computer got broken. Does iTunes still have all the info I had on iTunes on the old computer on it that I could somehow download onto my phone?

    I had iTunes downloaded on my last computer and it broke. The last time I synced my phone was on that computer. But it broke, so I got a new one and I re-downloaded iTunes onto it and I have no idea if I can get any of the info that was on my old computer. Today, I had to reset my phone so I lost all of my data. Does iTunes save that info or since I got a new computer, does that mean I can't sync anything that was on my old computer into my phone?

    Hi Victoria,
    You can re-download any iTunes purchases by going into the iTunes Store and clicking on "Purchased" under the Quick Links section on the right. Once you get into the Purchased section you can then click on each tab (Music, Apps, etc.) and then click on the cloud next to the item you want to re-download, or click on download all at the bottom.
    You would also be able to recover whatever you have on your iCloud backup to your phone, if you have iCloud. You will need to make sure that if you do recover items from iCloud that you have iTunes set up so that it knows you are syncing those things from iCloud and not iTunes, or they will be wiped when you do sync.
    If you recover photos from your photo stream that are not in your camera roll, save them to your camera roll so that they will back up to iPhoto when you sync.
    However, this is all you can put back into your iTunes on your new computer. Anything you did not back up that is not in one of the categories above is still on your old computer.....and that is the only place it is.
    Cheers,
    GB

  • Why does Quicktime still say "Player" after I upgraded to "PRO"?

    I upgraded my iMac's Quicktime to PRO but I am still unable to access the PRO functions. I need the PRO functions to convert some mpg files to .avi's, but it won't let me. The registration says I am running pro, but the application still says "player!"

    I think what you are saying is that it cannot open most MPEG files, is that correct? I have a video camera that puts them on my hard drive in MPEG format and I need to convert them to .AVI so I can edit them in FC Express. Do I need a different piece of software other than Quicktime?

  • 50+ Hour Movie, does Quicktime Pro have a movie limit length???

    Hi, I currently making a 50+ hour "art" film, and I've been told that since Final Cut Pro's sequences can only be 12 hours long, I would have to stich about 5 x 12 hour sequences together in Quicktime Pro. Does anyone know of Quicktime's limitation's?? Any advice would be great. Thanks.
    Dan

    Does anyone know of Quicktime's limitation's?
    Would assume only you wll likely know for sure as I can't believe too many people would be creating contiguous clips of such duration. In any case, as a "temorary topic of interest," I conducted a basic experiment. Took a feww short cuts, however, to speed up the process. Used a two hour plus (1.5 GB) iPod compatible source file and "stitched" 16 segment duplications together. Total duration for the combined clip was 35 hours, 20 minutes, 18 seconds, and some odd frames and a final files size on the order of 24 GBs. Realize this isn't the 50 hours plus you specifically asked about, but figured it would make an adequate test for the purposes of this forum.
    Would suppose it all depends on what you mean mean by limitations here. QT had no problem creating and playing the target file described above. In fact, I was very surprised that all 544 (16 x 34) chapters in the final file were functional. Took approximate 45 minutes or so to create the file. (Neglected to note exact timing) Since I assume a lot of disk caching was going on during the "set-up" and the actually writing phases of 24 plus GBs of data, this timing seems reasonable. Only real peculiarity noted was the accuracy of file/property info for the target file. While segments in the "source" file seemed to increase as expected as more and more segments were pasted together, these windows were found to be totally inaccurate in the opened target file. Total file (i.e., data) size displayed for the summary track was equal to the data size of the chapter track. Total audio track data size was depicted as zero bites while only the video track appeared to be accurate. Not sure if these inaccuracies represent bugs in QT player or a limitation in readout capabilities. In any case, the finder indicated a total file size of about 24 GBs which implies the audio track was actually about 2 GBs (which sounds about right here). While I assume there will be an upper limit to file sizes created in this manner, I would tend to worry more about disk caching and immediate HDD file storage space first.
    Any advice would be great.
    Not sure the workflow I employed (all at once stitching) would be the best in your case. Might be a better approach to "stitch" one file at a time in case your run into unanticipated problems. In addition, it would give you a chance to see if this process is a linear or geometric progression in terms of time and space requirements. Would appreciate you feedback here.

    Hi,

    Can anyone please suggest if this kind of issues still exist in jdk1.4.2?

    String msg = "Conversion from " + inValue.getClass().getName() + " to " + NFDate.class.getName() +
    " is not supported";
    throw new DateConversionException(msg);
    return ret;
    Thanks much in advance.
    Saikat

    It doesn't look like the format classes will ever be made thread safe. The fact that they aren't isn't a bug, it is a design choice that Sun made. If you need them to be thread safe, then you will have to do the synchronization yourself.
    If you have a finite number of threads for you application (like a thread pool) then you might consider using ThreadLocal so that separate threads will not be trying to access the same formatter.
