Does ram NEED to be installed in pairs

Hey guys, just purchased my Mac Pro about a week ago and I was looking to upgrade my ram. I ordered a 2 gig stick and it arrived yesterday but it won't install. I remember reading ram needed to be installed in pairs but I wasn't sure how true that was. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks

  • Does the ram need to be installed in pairs on a PowerMac G5?

Hi, I recently inherited a dual 2.0 ghz Powermac G5. The computer is in fantastic condition, to be honest it looks new, however, I decided that I want to do some upgrades like the ram, OS and probably add a hard drive. I recently read somewhere that Powermacs need to have ram memories installed in pairs, is this true? I would really like to know before making any purchases to avoid any problems.

    Yes, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2248

  • Starfrfc.exe : Does SAPGUI need to be installed too?

    Hi.
In the context of an interface, we are looking to use startrfc.exe to runa RFC enables function module.
    Now, simple question.
Does SAPGUI have to be installed on the machine that runs the startrfc.exe ? Because at this point, startrfc.exe runs fine only from a machine with the sapgui.
If not, can you tell me what needs to be installed? We would like to avoid installing the GUI on that particular machine.
    Thanks.

just as an update- as it turns out, I did not include the MAX config support installer this last time and my software and hardware currently seem to be working great.  I am now in the process of trying to slim down the services and startup activity to speed up boot time.
Right now my issue is as follows:
After putting my exe alias into the startup folder on the xpe target, it takes almost 5 minutes for the exe to load (including bootup)- AND my hardware does not work.  If I close the exe and re-run it, it seems to run fine.
So now perhaps theres an issue with the order of services/programs executed on startup.
If anyone has any insight or suggestions on how to go about this- I'd appreciate it.
I did manage to get msconfig running on the target as well, but it seems most of the NI services are dependent on one another and if you disable more than one or two, you kill communication between them and stuff like that.
    thanks for any ideas

  • Stupid question - does iCloud need to be installed on the same pc as your iTunes account?

I have Windows XP on my laptop where my iTunes are housed but I have Windows 7 on my desktop...is there anything I can do (other than load iTunes to my desktop?) Or, does it really matter? Will I still be able to sync with the cable from iPhone and iPad to the laptop even without iCloud?

No, Find my friends would need to be installed, you change the device being followed from the find my friends settings. It could be either device being followed depending on the settings, not which was last logged in, you can choose any device to follow from any device, the chanes are then synced across all devices.

  • OAS Instructure Apps server does this need to be installed

In a production BPEL installation do I need to do a full install of OAS Infrastructure or can I get a way with just using the Oracle Application Server Metadata Repository creation assistant to create the bpel schema in an existing Oracle database.
We are not using Oracle Internet Directory but are going to cluster both the Middle Tier OC4J and BPEL and I am assuming I will need to point to the Metadata Repository database to maintain configuration details for these clusters.
My question is do I need the OAS server that is normally installed during the standard Infrastructure install to achieve the above objectives.

For BPEL you do not need the Infrastrcuture environment. But it depends how BPEL is used in combination with other Oracle products.
For example: If you need single-sign-on or you Oracle Portal then these products need to have the infrastrcuture environment, and therefore you can install BPEL that is regsitered to the infrastructure. Or if you have specific requirements on high-availibilty than the infrastricture can help you.
But if you use only BPEL in combination with simple WEB application you do not need the infra environment.

  • Does MAX need to be installed for a built exe to utilize DAQ hardware?

    Hello-
I'm currently working on a program that gets built into an exe and put on a target computer running XPembedded.  Initially I installed MAX support and all the software I thought was necessary.  It seems to slow the computer down a good bit during boot up.
Once the computer boots up, its almost as if XPe hangs for a good few minutes before you can even get the start menu up. I'm wondering if there is anyway I can uninstall MAX and use the "generate code" feature on all of the DAQ task names.
When I go to uninstall MAX the uninstaller tells me it will also remove all of the programs that have MAX as a dependancy (including my program).
Does anyone have any insight on this issue?
    Thanks for any info!

  • Does quicktime need to be installed for Encore to work

I have resisted installing quicktime, but today did finally attempt to download and install it. I haven't been successful so far for one reason or another, (it says thank you for downloading Quicktime, but a search of my computer doesn't show it anywhere)  and want to know -- Is it necessary to have Quicktime installed in order to use Encore CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5? Is there something that doesn't function if it isn't there?

Thanks for the information. I have a couple follow up questions. I am using AVCHD video. When I export from Premiere Pro CS.5.5, I export to media. The summary section of the export window that opens up shows my source as 1920x1080. If I export it as AVI, that of course will go out as 720X480. I will then be bringing it back into Encore later to create my DVD. If I select the "Match Sequence settings" option, my output will, of course, be 1920X1080. This will create a MOV file to be brought into Encore, and as you have told me, will require the need to install Quicktime on my machine. I have a PC versus a Mac. From what I've been told, my final DVD authored in Encore, will be 720X480 pretty much no matter what settings I use to export it from Premiere Pro. Still, It seems logical that I should end up with a sharper image on my final DVD if I bring a 1920X1080 video file into encore to work with, versus bringing in a 720X480 file. First of all, am I correct in that assumption? Naturally I'm trying to get the best quality image I can with a 1 hour video file on a single side DVD.

  • How much hard drive space does Tiger need to be installed?

I have a small hard drive that I want to set up as a boot drive. What is the minimum disk space required to install Tiger? Thanks.

For an emergency boot drive 20GB will work, possibly even a 10GB if you omit several unused Languages & Printer drivers.
While a finished install may end up only 2.5 GB, during installation many temp & VM files are used, possibly as much as 10GB for a 2.5 GB install.
IMO, 20GB is not enough for use on anything but Emergency use.
If you're not going to install from your Optical, how are you going to do it?

Q: I am familiar with SQL Server's .NET data provider, but am new to Oracle. Is it easy to learn to use ODP.NET?
A: Yes. ODP.NET inherits from all the ADO.NET base classes, which is what SQL Server's .NET data provider, SqlClient, is based upon. The ADO.NET constructors, methods, and properties that you use with SQL Server will be the same with Oracle. For many applications, the only notable differences will be having all objects that were preceded with "Sql", such as SqlConnection, be preceded by "Oracle", such as OracleConnection, and accounting for differences between Oracle and SQL Server database data types, SQL, and stored procedure calls.
Q: What are the different ways Oracle integrates with Microsoft .NET?
A: Oracle integrates with .NET in a number of ways. For optimized .NET data access, ODP.NET enables access to all of the Oracle database's advanced features, such as RAC and XML DB, while ensuring the fastest performance from the .NET Framework.
For .NET development tools that make Oracle easier to use, the Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio .NET provide wizards and designers that auto-generate ODP.NET code and can browse and edit schemas and stored procedures. Additionally, it includes a Data Window to modify and view data and context-sensitive help.
Beginning with Oracle Database 10g Release 2, developers can build and deploy .NET stored procedures for their Oracle database.
For application integration, web services can facilitate integration between your existing Oracle and .NET applications.
Q: Where can I find ODP.NET help and sample code?
A: ODP.NET documentation is available from within Visual Studio .NET using Dynamic Help. Just hit the F1 key when your cursor is on an ODP.NET API and a help page for that API will appear right within Visual Studio .NET.
Additional ODP.NET documentation is available both locally installed and from the ODP.NET documentation page.
Sample code can be found both locally as part of the ODP.NET installation (e.g. c:\oracle\<Oracle Home Name>\ODP.NET\samples) and on ODP.NET samples page.
ODP.NET users can ask questions on the ODP.NET discussion forum.
Q: I have ODP.NET installed, but I can't find the ODP.NET Dynamic Help. Where is it?
A: This behavior sometimes occurs when installing new Visual Studio .NET versions over an ODP.NET installation. To enable ODP.NET Dynamic Help, go to Visual Studio .NET Combined Help Collection Manager located in Visual Studio .NET 2002 or Visual Studio .NET 2003. Make sure the box next to the Oracle Data Provider for .NET Help is checked and click on the Update VSCC button. Close Visual Studio .NET and re-open it to enable ODP.NET Dynamic Help.
Note: Because of security restrictions, you may need to copy and paste the links above to a browser, rather than clicking on them. Once copied to a local browser, if you have a Windows service pack that prevents active content (e.g. Windows XP service pack 2), you will need to allow active content to view the complete page. To do this, click on the yellow bar at the top of the Visual Studio .NET Combined Help Collection Manager page, which indicates active content has been blocked. Select "Allow Blocked Content". A security warning will show up. Click "Yes" and you will be able to view the page in its entirety, including having the option to incorporate the Oracle Data Provider for .NET Help into Visual Studio .NET.
Q: What are the new features in this version of ODP.NET?
    A:
    ODP.NET 10.2.0.1.0
Server-side ODP.NET for .NET stored procedures
RAC client-side connection load balancing and automatic connection cleanup
    Database Change Notification
LOB and LONG retrieval - faster data retrieval, InitialLOBFetchSize can be up to 2GB, and full LOB functionality when InitialLOBFetchSize > 0 (i.e. GetOracleClob and GetOracleBlob methods are enabled). These same features are now enabled with LONGs with its respective APIs.
Connection Pool Management - explicitly clear connection pool(s)
Client Identifier property for supporting application context security, such as with VPD
    Input REF Cursor parameters
    ODP.NET 10.1.0.3.0
    Statement caching
DeriveParameters - automatic population of stored procedure parameters
    Cancel long running queries
ADO.Net 1.1 interfaces - HasRows and EnlistDistributedTransaction properties
LOB and LONG retrieval - Entire LOB and LONG column data can be retrieved even if the select list does not contain a primary key, ROWID, or unique key.
    ODP.NET 10.1.0.2.0
    Grid support
    Schema-based XMLType
    BINARY_FLOAT and BINARY_DOUBLE datatypes
    Multiple Oracle Homes
    ODP.NET 9.2.0.4.01
Improved XML DB and XMLType support
    PL/SQL associative arrays
    connection pool validation
InitialLOBFetchSize property to improve LOB retrieval performance
Q: How do I make a feature enhancement request for ODP.NET?
A: You can contact Oracle Support or use the ODP.NET discussion forum to make an enhancement request.
Q: What features will ODP.NET support in future releases?
A: In general, Oracle does not discuss features in future product releases until the release date nears. We are well aware of enhancement requests made through the ODP.NET discussion forum and Oracle support. We encourage Oracle users to continue to make their requests known. Oracle will do its best to fulfill these requests in future releases.
Q: Do I need to install ODP.NET on my Oracle database server?
A: No. You only need to install ODP.NET for running client or middle-tier .NET applications. The exception is if you are using .NET stored procedures in the database server. The server-side ODP.NET provider will automatically be installed with the Oracle Database Extensions for .NET.
Q: Can ODP.NET work with Oracle8, Oracle8i, Oracle9i, and Oracle10g database (DB) servers? Can these DB servers be on Linux or Unix?
A: Yes and yes. Oracle clients can support older and newer versions of the Oracle database. Consult the Oracle on Windows FAQ for more information.
Oracle clients on Windows can work with Oracle database servers on any platform.
    Q: Can ODP.NET be used with an Oracle8, Oracle8i, or Oracle9i Release 1 client?
A: No. You need to use the Oracle9i Release 2 or higher client.
Q: What do I need to have installed on my client machine to have ODP.NET work?
What needs to be on a client machine when running an application compiled with the 10g ODP.NET?
The FAQ states the following :-
A: You will require the following:
Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, or Windows Server 2003
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 or higher
    Oracle9i Client Release 2 (9.2) or higher
Oracle Net Services (included with the client)
Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server, Release 2 (9.2) or higher. This is required for applications using distributed transacations.
This implies that ODP.NET does NOT need to be installed on a client. However, I cannot find OraOPs9.dll on a machine with Client Release 9.2 installed. Should OraOps?.dll automatically come with a Client installation of 9.2 or higher?
Also, if an application is built with the 10g ODP.NET, can it be run from a machine with OraOps9.dll?
I'd be very grateful for anyone who can clear up my confusion.
    Mick

This implies that ODP.NET does NOT need to be installed on a client. However, I cannot find OraOPs9.dll on a machine with Client Release 9.2 installed. Should OraOps?.dll automatically come with a Client installation of 9.2 or higher?
ODP.NET needs to be installed on the client. OraOps9.dll is part of ODP.NET, not the Oracle Client.
Also, if an application is built with the 10g ODP.NET, can it be run from a machine with OraOps9.dll?
If an application is built with 10g ODP.NET, it can be run with 9.2 ODP.NET as long as you do not use any 10g APIs. The new features in 10g ODP.NET are included in the doc and the ODP.NET FAQ for your reference.

(see FCP X)..
    good luck with apple dude..
Where is the Apple problem? I have CS4 and CS5 running perfectly fine on my Macbook Pro. Installed 5 after Lion upgrade. Worth every cent. Adobe did have some catching up to do with Lion but with the CS5.5 update all runs fine. But not yours. So it is a problem with the Lion OS? You say you have been with Adobe since 2005. So you would be aware of all the other issues that Adobe had catching up with past Oss in Mac and Windows then. They get it right, but it is up to them. It is not up to Apple, nor Microsoft for that matter, to run around and check that every software developer in the world is running their business properly.
And what has politics got to do with anything. Some people just have to blame Software for their poor Hardware maintainence of failure of the same.

Great suggestion. You should go with that one, but good luck getting a refund.

  • Does Find My Friends need to be installed to work?

    Hey all,
I have a problem with something that happened Monday. My fiancee was in the hospital sunday night but went to work monday anyways, and her sister picked her up from our house and dropped her off from work. So she didnt have a car all day. She works at a main campus but there is another smaller campus about 15 minutes drive away. We were texting all morning and then at 10:45am she stopped texting. No problem. After 45 minutes I got conerned because she was in the hospital a few hours before. I texted her "are you OK?". Nothing. I called her. Nothing. Another 30 minutes go by and being so concerned, I login to Find My Friends and she pops up as being at this smallar campus. Let me make it clear, she has nothing to do with this other campus and has no need to be there.
After a total of 2 hours of no responses, she texts me back and tells me she was in a meeting at her boses office (which is in the same biulding and floor as her own building). Confused, I login to Find My Friends again and now I see her at the shuttle stop at the smaller location. I watch it as she appears to have gotten onto the company shuttle that takes workers from the main campus to the smaller campus. So it appears FMF was 100% accurate as it was stationary at the smaller campus for 45 minutes, then jumped to the shuttle stop and then I watched the shuttle drive to the main campus through the city.
Now, the only saving grace is that her mom also has an iPhone. However, sometimes her mom would be logged into her Apple ID account (but never her iCloud account). Her mom updated her iPhone about 6 days ago to iOS 5. She created an iCloud account and verified it, but never setup the iCloud section in her settings and never installed Find my Friends on her iPhone. Her mom does work at this smaller campus. So, my question is could her moms deivce have replaced my fiancees device for Find My Friends? Even though she never setup the iCloud settings on her phone and Find My Friends was not installed??
Thanks all for your help. This was an caring and innocent discovery that I cannot stop worrying about.

No, Find my friends would need to be installed, you change the device being followed from the find my friends settings. It could be either device being followed depending on the settings, not which was last logged in, you can choose any device to follow from any device, the chanes are then synced across all devices.

Does anyone know how I install Microsoft office onto an I Mac or if I even need it.

If you need to write or modify documents made with Word, Excel, or Powerpoint, then you need Office. Otherwise, you don't. If you already have it then installation just involves double-clicking on the Office Installer's icon.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)
