Does recovery disc creation use temporary files?

hp pavilion slimline s3707c, vista home premium 64 bit
When I created the recovery discs, 3 dvds 4.7GB each, it appeared to use up about 15 gig of hard disc space. Could this be the temporary storage needed to 'collect files' in preparation of the discs? If so, can this space be freed up?

Hi,
Bad software design, it should clear the temp files after burning 3 DVD's. My suggestion: to be sure, before delete them just copy those files to elsewhere (such as an external HDD), delete them on internal HDD. Wait for few weeks then we can delete files on the external HDD.
Just my  2 cents.

  • 'Use Temporary File' in Receiver File channel

    hi all,
I am facing a strange issue with receiver file channel which I am not sure if somene had already faced. I couldnt find any help from blogs..!
I have configured the Receiver File channel with Write mode as  'Use Temporary File'  with a temporary file name(say tmp.xml)  scheme and Empty-Message Handling set to 'Write Empty File'
When the scenario is executed, its so happening that the temporary file of 0 bytes(empty file) is being created as tmp<msgID>.xml before the actual file is being completely written. It is expected that once the Actual file is completely written, the tmp file should be deleted, but here is not the case. Thus causing both the files being present in the target location. This is not happening often though.
As the receiving application is processing all files from the target direcotry, the file is getting errored out in the target application.
I think the 'Write Empty File' has nothing to do with this as the option 'Write Empty File' is for empty payloads resulting from the message mapping.
Please correct me if am wrong and also provide me the inputs on my issue. Am on PI7.0
    thanks in advance,

    Hi Tilak,
    this is real time interface
real time by using a file... that's a non-sens according to me. You should use a non physical solution (web service, JMS, JDBC, etc...) but a not a file. well... Anyway, you can image that the receiver application schedule the folder every 30s or every 1min, that's almost a real time. Real time is mainly a conceptual view (only synchronous exchange needs really real time). Morevoer, if you really wanted a real time, you should not add a tool like PI (or other) between your source and your target system, the more we have systems, the less it's efficient (in term of delay and response time!).
Even if we propose that the receiver application should have a condition to its script to avoid picking the tmp*.xml files, after a period of time there would be a chance that the *tmp files may increase in number..
No ! coz if my theory is good, if your receiver application does not pick-up tmp.xml, that means this file is not currently treated and so PI is authorized to delete it. So no increase of tmp.xml files in this folder.
Another solution: to create the target file without option "temporary", but to create it in another folder than this one scheduled by your receiver application, and use an OS command AFTER processing, in your receiver CC, which move the created file from the "temp" folder to the target folder.

  • Use temporary file in FTP receiver adapter

    Hi guys,
I'm not getting the purpose of "use temporary file" in FTP receiver adapter. Can you describe any situation, where this should be used?
What is the location of this temporary file?
Is it deleted after "normal" file is created?
    Thanks a lot,
    Olian

    > I'm not getting the purpose of "use temporary file" in FTP receiver adapter. Can you describe any situation, where this should be used?
Some times when you create the file on your target dir then if there is another application looking for same file is quite faster to pick the file before it is complety written on target dir then in this situation using temporary file option is very helpful. What it does, it simply creates the file first by using temporary name once all bytes or bits has been transfered then it creates the original name and the temp file get deleted.
    > What is the location of this temporary file?
Same location, where your original file is suppose to be written.
    > Is it deleted after "normal" file is created?
    Yes.

  • Use Temporary File (File Receiver)

    Hi All,
I have a file format in the file receiver which has a special charecter(#0) that represents the end of the file. but i wanna append more than one message to the same file. if i do so, the content would be added after the end of the file charecter (#0) there by my system which processes these files ignores the content. i think i hav to do something using the option 'Use Temporary File'. but i din't find ample info about it on help.sap.com. Can any one plz throw some light on this?
    Thnx in Advance
    Anil Kumar Veepuri

    Hi Anil,
The functionality of temporary file is that, the receiver file adapter first collects the data of the file into a temporary file before putting it on the server.
This is generally use so that ur target system does not read the file when u are writing it on the server.
Try using File construction mode Append.
    Hope this helps.

  • When to use "Use Temporary File" in receiver FTP adapter

    Hi Experts,
I have nerver used "Use Temprary File" as the "Write Mode" in receiver ftp adapter.
I want to knwo under what kind of requirment we should use this option?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,

    Hi Aditya
Usually it's advisable to use "use temporary file" as write mode when you want to avoid your file to be picked up by receiver while PI channel is still writing it.
Obviously larger the file, more chances you have that this issue could occur.
If you select the "use temporary file", XI will write the content to a temporary file with another name of your choice and only once writing has finished it will rename it to the actual name setup in the "file name scheme".

    Giuseppe

  • Recovery Disc Creation (1TB External hard-drive)

I am attempting to create a 'Recovery Disc' and I had a few questions. I tried doing a little research but I got yes and no answers. Is it possible to partition an external hard drive and make my computer think the partition is a blank USB drive to make a back-up media file? I realize this may have complications... I.E. When it tries to format the drive. Would that ruin the partition on the external HD or treat it as the drive and only format the portion that has been partitioned? It is even possible to do? The external hard drive being 1TB (Western Digital Passport) and I only need to make a ~32GB portion. I am just looking for a little insight before I go buy a new USB just to back up my laptop so HP Support Assistant stops yelling at me.

I wouldn't attempt it. Not sure it would even work, the Recovery Manager 'might' use it but it may also format the entire hdd in the process. Even if it was successful at creating the Recovery partition on it, you will still be faced with the problem of trying to get the laptop to boot from the usb hdd in the event of needing to perform a Recovery.
If you don't want to invest in a 32Gb flash drive to dedicate to this and have DVDs they can be used.Usually requires 3-5.

  • HP Recovery Disc Creation Error

I just bought a new HP Pavilion 500 desktop AMD Elite Quad Core A8-6500 8GB memory 2TB hd, and I am trying to create recovery discs as recommended by the system using DVD+R (Memorex Brand) discs to complete this process. The program comes up, checks the disc I insert and tells me which type I have and that it will take 3 discs to complete the progess.
It then appears to be creating disc number 1.
However after completion, it says it is verifying the disc and then after about 15 minutes puts up an error message.
"An error occured while creating the disc. Try a new disc or choose a different high quality brand of disc and make sure all applications arre closed."
This whole process wastes about 30 minutes. However, I can see in windows explorer that the disc has been created and has files on it. I rebooted, started over and was able to create disk 1. Disk 2 would always error out at the end of the process. I spent hours last night trying 6 different disks until I gave up on Disk 2. Thinking I have a bad PC or drive, I tried ripping cd's and playing movies, all seemed to work ok.
I was really frustrated until I saw that 5 years after this 2009 post people are still having the exact same issue! So it is not just me.
I am giving up on recovery disks because I have already spent too much time and disks on it.
I will try the recovery usb and if that fails move on.

Additional information is below. I was surprised to see so many people with HP products having exactly the same problem. The recovery disk problem is very frustrating because you have to wait so long for it to error (30-45 min.) and it looks like it is working right up to the point it errors out at the end of the disc writing process.
    1. Product name - HP Black 500-214 Desktop PC with AMD Elite Quad-Core A8-6500 Accelerated Processor, 8GB Memory, 2TB Hard Drive, purchased and unboxed yesterday
    2. OS - Windows 8.1
    3. Error Message - "An error occured while creating the disc. Try a new disc or choose a different high quality brand of disc and make sure all applications are closed."
    4. Any changes made - No changes, this was right out of the box after I set up window 8.1.

  • Recovery disc creation and windows 7 upgrade

when i get to disc 3 of recovery disc it shows that it has written the disc but before it cane verify it, it ejects the disc and a screen pops up and says to reinsert the disc, when it is reinserted nothing happens and have to cancel operation, after three times wasting disc to try to get third disc created need a suggestion since seem not to be able to get thru to hp support. also, trying to upgrade from vista to windows 7, after going thru all the things required by the windows upgrade advisor and hp upgrade assist, when windows 7 upgrade disc is installed, get error message that autorun.dll is missing and get error code 0x456 and computer freezes up, and the only way to get disc out of disc drive and get computer to work again is to manually turn it off, and still can't get thru to hp!

    Hi m.tarek,
I doubt that this would possible. Firstly you only ordered an upgrade, that means this version can only be installed on a preinstalled Vista version. Its not a full version that you can install without OS.
Furthermore the recovery files on the second partition (btw, thats an image) contains the Vista OS and not Windows 7. This will not be updated.
Sorry mate, but therefore its necessary always to make this upgrade. Alternative you can create your own image using Acronis True Image or another image software.

  • Help!! New W530 and I have a recovery disc creation error?

Hi, I just got a brand new W530 and got an error when creating the recovery discs.  Now the process won't restart.   Is there a solution?
The partition is still there but the wizard won't start up again so I can't give it another shot.

    Hello and welcome,
There may be a way to re-enable the recovery creation process.  There was with older machines.  I don't know what the current situation is, but others may chime in.
The best course might be to call support and request the recovery media.  I can't speak for Lenovo, but it's common for them to be sent free in this situation.

When I had problems creating recovery media for my T60p I called Lenovo to ask for assistance. After giving the CSR a description of the errors I was encountering and what I tried to do about them, he decided it would be easier for both of us if Lenovo sent me a set of media. YMMV.

  • Lenovo T61p - Product recovery disc creation fails

    Hi,
I tried creating a set of product recovery disc, the process started decently to extract the information/files. Then the process abruptly stops and gives a msg saying "The process has encountered an internal error."
    Pls Help.
    Rgds,
    Sumit

As  lead_org  says, call Lenovo and explain the problem you have encountered, especially the error message, "The process has encountered an internal error." If they don't offer to send you free recovery media, politely explain to them that it's not your fault that you can't make the media on your own. If you're firm and persistent (call back later and try another agent) they will relent

  • Elitebook 8440p - recovery disc creation & booting from an external drive

I have a brand new Elitebook 8440p & I have a couple of issues that I cannot seem to resolve.
    1.  I expected to get some sort of system install, or recovery or repair discs - or the ability to create such disks with this laptop.  Nothing came with it, and I cannot find any place to create some sort of system recovery disks, nor is there anything listed for this laptop on the HP site to acquire them from HP.  I am not comfortable having no way to recover this computer should a hard disk go south.  Any ideas how to create or get an op system disk or recovery discs or something?
    2.  I have an encrypted company/business hard disc inside the laptop for work.  I also have the original hard disk that came with the computer in an external eSata/USB case.  I have configured and installed software on the external drive to include my personal software and programs, leaving the company hard disc inside the laptop for business use only.  However, I cannot make this laptop boot from the external drive if the company drive is inside the laptop.  I have read and tried everything, but if a drive is inside the laptop, it will not boot from the external eSata/USB drive.  If I simply remove the laptop hard drive, it boots perfectly from the external drive via eSata and works fine.  How do I manage to get this laptop to boot from my external drive without having to remove the internal hard drive?
Any help or ideas someone can offer are greatly appreciated.  Thanks very much.

    Hi, Rich:
If you live in the USA or Canada, you can get a set of restore disks from HP for $10. I am surprised you didn't get a set but maybe they only come with the business desktops.
Here is how you order them:
    1.  Write down the part number and serial # on bottom of the computer on the white tag.  The model # is an HP-Compaq 8440p, but the part number will be found on that white tag below the serial #.
    2. Call HP at 1-800-952-7689, option 1 (ordering restore disks is part of the list in the option).
    3. Provide the info asked by the rep that answers the phone. Some just ask for the serial #, some want both, or they will just want the serial number and type of computer (8440p).
    4. Have a Master Card or Visa ready for purchasing. They don't take Discover. You will be charged $10.00.
You will receive the disks by First Class Mail or you can pay an additional $10.00 for FedEx shipping.
Sorry, I can't answer your second question. I assume you have already tried hitting the F9 key at the HP splash screen to select the device to boot from?

  • Shopping Cart creation using Upload File

    Hi
We want to create Shopping cart using the Upload Program in SRM 7.01. We can use the FM BBP_PD_SC_CREATE and BBP_PD_SC_SAVE for this.
However wanted to understand the check points that we need to keep in mind while creating the SC from any legacy system using Flat File. Are there any constraints, precautions that we should take or some prechecks/prerequisites that need to be fulfilled.
Any input in this regard would be welcome.

  • P205 s6267 recovery disc creation

I am experiencing some slowing down and erratic stuff with this laptop and decided it would be best to put it back to it's original state. I looked up the online users guide to see how to do this. Unfortunately i cannot find a recovery disc creator icon, nor anything in programs , as I thought this would be the best way to go.
They do list a HDD recovery option which involves powering up with the 0 (zero button ) pressed. When I tried this it just beeped at me not stop. No recovery wizard appeared. i had to go and do a system restore as it did'nt like what i had done. Any suggestions?
    thanks
