Does reducing image size reduce image quality?

i 'm new to AI and also to this forum.
I know that enlarging and image can reduce image quality.
I'd like to know if reducing the image size (not in pixels, but in actual size),
will reduce the quality?
i have a Ai file that's 600x300, and need to reduce it to 300x120 my websie.
Before I convert it to a web format, I want to reduce this large Ai file to 300x120.
Will i still lose quality even if it's still an Ai file, before converting to web format???
thanks!!!!!

No it is however best to use save for the web to do so for the best optimization.
keep in mind the only lose in quality will be if some one grabbed it off of the website and tried to enlarge it or view it at a larger display size.
What you want to do is the best way of reducing the size.

    Hi all,
    How can i reduce the size of Images in Form,bcoz they are covering lots of spaces in form due to that other items are not displaying in specific order.

    Better you can use Canvas class and using drawImage() function you can show the image. Before that you have to Get the maximum size of your phone screen using the following:
    x = (width/2) - (image.getWidth()/2);
    y = (height/2) - (image.getHeight()/2);

  • Reduce physical size of image with minimal quality loss

    Hello,
    I have to fit high res, high quality, images behind a presentation frame, which is only about 800x600. Everytime i reduce the high res images to fit behind the frame, even with bicubic sharper on, the reduction in quality is really bad. Is there anyway i can maximise quality when reducing the dimensions of the image?
    Any help much appreciated...

    Hi Ed,
    What approximate sizes are you starting from? My hunch is that you are expecting too much detail to remain in an 800 X 600 which is pretty small. As far as I know the bicubic algorithm is the best for reducing images that Photoshop has ever produced.
    You might try an experiment. After shrinking your image duplicate the background layer in the layers palette. On the duplicate layer run Filter > Other > High Pass and set the radius to 0.5. Then change the blend mode of the High Pass layer to Overlay. You may find that you like the subtle sharpening without artifacts.

  • Reduce File Size causes images to be blurry

    I created a document in Pages '09 that contains several masked images, resulting in a really large file size. I clicked Reduce File Size to get rid of the cropped parts of the images. Unfortunately, the images are now blurry. Any way to mask or crop a picture, or use Reduce File Size, without loss of image quality?

    The images are being reduced to 72dpi with no sharpening that I can see and the excess image outside the masking shape doesn't seem to get trimmed. I suspect you then saved to a pdf with a lower quality setting which would have given a 2nd reduction in quality on top of the first.
    So the best option is to take your images into Preview, crop them, reduce their resolution and sharpen them then bring them back into your Pages layout before exporting to pdf.

  • Reduce file size of image a user loads into image field in form

    Hello,
    I'm a Mediadesigner from Germany and I started to work with Lifcycle Designer about a year ago.
    I already made some smaller forms with different fields.
    Now I have a special form with empty image fields, that allow the user to put in his images.
    For the form goes out to so many different people, some of them just take the images as they are, load them into the form and so the filesize of the pdf grows. For your information: the filled out pdf will be sent back to us by e-mail.
    So here is my question: is it possible to reduce the filesize of that images when it is loaded into the fild or when the filled in form is saved.
    For example that I can say: "Take all images and make them 72dpi and max. height 500px"?
    Thanks for your help in advance!

    Hi,
    there is now way to reduce the real file size or dimension of an imported image.
    But you can checkt the file size and show a warning to the users to use a smaller file.
    Here's a sample which describes how to do so:

  • Reducing pdf size - compressing images

    I have a word document with a lot of images. the doc has 2.3 mega but the pdf gets around 8.5 mega; I've tried many settings in Adobe PDF but I cannot reduce the pdf size;
    thank you

    If you are using WORD 2003 or later, you can click on one of the images to get the format menu, select compress in the lower left corner, and compress the graphics in the WORD file. If you want to keep the original, do this on a copy (good idea anyway) and then create the PDF using the Adobe PDF printer. You may be getting the size due to features added by PDF Maker if you are using that.
    Within Acrobat, your options are either FILE>Reduce File Size or the PDF Optimizer. You can also just print to a new PDF. A lot depends on how you created the PDF and you provided no info there. Also, what OS and version of Acrobat?

  • Reducing the size of image and then save that image in a folder

    can anyone help me about how to reduce the size of the image which i received from client .

    use compressionQuality to redue the image size,
    for example,
    bufferedImage = ImageIO.read(sourceFile);
    ImageWriter writer = (ImageWriter) ImageIO.getImageWritersBySuffix("jpeg").next();
    writer.setOutput(ImageIO.createImageOutputStream(result_file));
    ImageWriteParam param = writer.getDefaultWriteParam();
    param.setCompressionMode(ImageWriteParam.MODE_EXPLICIT);
    param.setCompressionQuality(compressQuality);
    writer.write(null, new IIOImage(bufferedImage, null, null),param);

  • Incorrect image size and low quality file (Photoshop CC trial ver. on Macbook Pro Retina)

    At first, I set 500x500 size
    but in workplace, it show smaller than 500x500 (maybe 250x250?)
    I check on "image > image size" it still show me 500x500 pixels
    Save for web
    After that, i got a 500x500 file but It resize from smaller to 500x500 , so... i got a low quality file.
    what's wrong?
    (sorry for bad english skill but i really want your help)
    Ps. it also incorrect when i set resolution as 300dpi

    Pixel is not a measurement unit of length per se.
    If a screen has more pixels per unit of length an image (when displayed as one image pixel per one screen pixel) would appear smaller than on a screen with lower resolution.
    To make sure could you please post an image that is 500px x 500px (according to Image > Image Size) but seems to be too small to you?

  • Lumia 720 image size reduced

    When I got my Lumia 720 still running on WP 8.1 Preview For Developer (pre-cyan), I took a picture with primary camera and Lumia Camera app, the size was about 2,3 mb. Now I got Lumia 720 upgraded to Lumia Cyan and Preview For Developer (pre-denim), I took a picture again and realized the size was just 700 kb. Can anyone tell me which version of OS that brings this change, or it is because an upgrade on lumia camera apps itself?

    Microsoft didn't release the sw to the general public, you must have signed up to the developer preview to get it, in which case you would have accepted notices that it's not yet a commercial release.
    Size of the file is not necessarily an issue, it could be that they have improved image optimisation, jpg files saved by late Symbian phones were smaller than Windows Phone images have been. If the dimensions of the image in pixels is the same and there is no drop in quality then you have nothing to worry about.
    You might want to check in the camera app's settings in case it is set to a lower resolution than before, in which case you can increase to the desired setting.

  • Publisher image size reduced upon pdf conversion

    Last week I submitted a Publisher file of an advertisement for pdf conversion. When I opened the pdf and printed it out, the ad which had been, let's say, 4x7 inches, printed out about a quarter inch smaller in both width and height. When I e-mail it to the magazine publisher, how do they make the image fit the correct ad space? And how can I prevent this change in size next time?

    Check your print settings in Adobe Reader. Make sure have page
    scaling: none.

  • Image size vs image quality/compression ratio Powershot A3000

    Picked up this camera on Ebay because I read some good reviews, but for the life of me I can't get a resolution more than 180 dpi, whether I follow the directions in the manual for setting manually in the P mode for either size or quality. If I want to print something, it should be at least 300dpi. I want my images to have enough pixels for a nice print. Is there something I am not seeing? Does this camera even have the capability of doing that? Thanks for any input.

  • Reduce file size and maintain quality

    How can I creat a file that can be played on Window Media Player full screen that is not pixilated.  I have tried various settings and either the video would not play, the file would be huge and would play or it would be pixilated.  The file that works is 12 minutes of HD video and is 538 MB!  I would prefer a file size less than half of that size that can be viewed full screen without pixilation.

    It seems to be a Windows Media Player issue rather than the file. Can you still play the old videos? If you Google the error code and Windows Media Player you will find a lot of folks with the same issue with different file types... there appear to be some solutions that work for some but not others. Here is one for example:

  • Specify image size on images that have not been uploaded to APEX

    Hello,
    I’m an APEX newbie and have written an Employee Directory application in Apex 4.0.2 which allows the user to click an icon on an interactive report to see a photo of the employee on a new screen. The images have not been uploaded to APEX. Picture sizes range from 250x375, 275x275, 455x455, with several other variations of width and height. Clicking the icon does work, in that the photo is displayed. The problem is that the photos are displayed in APEX based on their size, so that the employee whose picture is 455x455 takes up 25% of the screen, whereas the 275x275 picture takes up far less space on the screen. How can I specify that these images should all display as a specific size?
    The URL specified in the Column Link section is https://prod.edu:8099/wtlgifs/ocp/#EMPDIR_ID#.jpg, where #EMPDIR_ID# contains the 9-digit ID number associated with a given employee. For example, https://prod.edu:8099/wtlgifs/ocp/123456789.jpg is the URL for the picture of employee 123456789.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    "click an icon"—What kind of icon? A thumbnail of the photo? The default IR detail view icon?
    The URL specified in the Column Link section is https://prod.edu:8099/wtlgifs/ocp/#EMPDIR_ID#.jpg, where #EMPDIR_ID# contains the 9-digit ID number associated with a given employee. For example, https://prod.edu:8099/wtlgifs/ocp/123456789.jpg is the URL for the picture of employee 123456789.
    So does this link just switch the browser location to that of the photo (i.e. after clicking the link the address bar contains <tt>https://prod.edu:8099/wtlgifs/ocp/123456789.jpg</tt>)? If so the photo is not "displayed in APEX based on their size": the browser is simply displaying the photo natively at its actual size. There's nothing you can do to modify this.
    To get any control over the photo size you need a different approach, using the IR column link to show either the interactive report or another APEX page.
    If I'm misinterpreting this then you're advised to recreate this aspect of the app on apex.oracle.com to give a clearer picture of what's involved.
