Does Reinstalling Tiger Ruin The XP Partition? Quick Answer Please.

Hi , I am wondering , I need to reinstall Tiger , but I am wondering If reinstalling Tiger messes up The XP parition. Thanks!!

I don't think so, if you select the correct partition for Mac OS X.
But you have to re-install the boot camp assistant to the utility folder, just incase you want to delete the XP partition and make it back to single partition.
I might be wrong, just post this too at boot camp forum to get more answer from more expert boot camp user.
Good Luck.

My iPad and iPhone have the same syncing calendar but my Windows 7 PC with iCloud does not sync/show the same calendar...please help!

iCloud will not sycn a calendar from an external source.  In order to use iCloud to sync it, you would have to move it to iCloud and stop using Google.  I know how to do that on a Mac, but I'm not sure how to do it on a PC.  If you're using Outlook, I suspect you export it as an .ics file to your desktop, then import it to the iCloud account in Outlook.  I'm sure you could use Google to find the specific steps.
However, there's really no reason not to just use Google to sync your calendar across your devices.  Instead, just continue to use Goole calendar on all your devices and they should stay in sync.  Take a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0Jj0KFgbYI.

  • Does reinstalling OSX delete the data on the drive?

Does reinstalling OSX via recovery drive delete any data on the drive? Basically, I think the install of yosemite I have now is messed up and needs to be redone. Safari doesn't open in normal start up mode but opens in safe mode. I figured a reinstall of OSX would help? Does reinstalling it remove all the data on the drive? Or does it detect that there is data there and leaves it alone? Thanks in advance.

    Hey Kpe413,
Thanks for the question. Using the built-in recovery disk to reinstall OS X will keep your files and user settings intact. However, you should always make a back up of your data via Time Machine or manual methods in case you run into any issues. For more information, check out the following resources:

  • FCExpress VS FCP (quick answer please!)

    Hello,
I'm a student in Digital Media at a design school, just finished a 2 month course involving FCP. I'm not financially able to purchase FCP, but Express is within my budget. What are the major differences between them? I cant find anything that simplifies the differences....please someone help me out real quick? Thanks!
    Nick

Most people would probably not notice any differences.
If you need to work with multicam editing, use native HDV or formats other than DV, then you will require FCP.
If you don't - FCE should do everything you need.

  • Reinstalling tiger 4.2 to partition

Have new G5 dual 2.3ghz. Need to partition for ps scratch disks and work volumes before installing software. Just wondering if there are any known problems that I might run in to when re installing Mac OSX 10.4.2 from CD? AND, on old OS9 it was easy with disk doctor (not available for tiger) to defrag and check partioned volumes. How do you do that in OSX tiger? Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If the Mac was released after 10.4.3's release, you won't be able to install 10.4.2 on it.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
Defragmentation usually isn't necessary on Mac OS X, because of its own built-in defragmentation on most small files. Unless you are doing large file editing, you won't notice fragmentation affecting you. That's not to say you couldn't run into a directory issue, but typically fragmentation is not an issue. When dealing with large video files, having a scratch partition to write data to and periodically erase will give you space that is defragmented to write new big files to. Partitioning itself deletes the entire hard disk. There are third party utilities, which I haven't tested which don't require deleted the entire hard disk. The most important maintenance you can do to Mac OS X is backup your data:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
All other maintenance is only there to supplement existing backups, and should not be used in lieu of backups.

  • Tiger Classic-ified the OS9 on the other partition.

    Hi,
I recently bought this G4 QS and a 5-license DVD of Tiger (black disk with a silver 'X'), both second-hand.
Being a newbie to OS X I also bought about 9 bookshelf inches of Tiger books.
I fitted the G4 with a new 140 Gb hard drive and partitioned it roughly 100/40, taking care to put the OS9 drivers on both partitions.
I then installed OS9.2.2 from a gray G4 installation CD onto both partitions (no apparent problems there) and then put Tiger onto the larger partition.
I opted for this configuration because I have several older applications and files on my various older Macs and one of the books advised choosing a dual-boot system because not all older apps will run under Classic mode. I want to be able to be able to access my legacy files in the transition period until I have got more familiar with Tiger.
    Here are my questions:
Tiger has modified the OS9 on the larger partition (which I expected it to do) but it has also modified (Classic-ified) the copy of OS9 on the smaller partition as well, is this normal?
Will the machine behave properly as a dual-boot system?
Did I make some mistake with my installation procedure and, if so, should I try to correct it?
All helpful advice and suggestions will be gratefully received.
    Best regards,
    Pete.

OS X makes modifications to OS 9 to help classic mode. These modifications do not cause problems when you boot OS 9. There is normally no need for a separate partition for OS 9. OS 9 in an OS X partition can be used with OSX as Classic, or can be booted directly. There are a couple of reasons, though, why you might want separate partitions:
    1) You need to run some OS 9 applications that require modifications to OS 9 that make it not work as Classic in OSX.
    2) You want to be able to select OS 9 or Classic at boot time using the Option key. If they are in the same partition and boot is set to OS 9, you can get OSX by holding X while booting, but if it is set to OSX, you have to boot OSX, then choose OS 9 in the "Startup Disk" system preference.

  • Does reinstalling OSX Lion...?

Does reinstalling OSX Lion from Recovery Partition remove my Boot Camp partition?

I think running Software Update is a good idea - I did a fresh install of MLion this last week using the full 10.8.4 installer. After the update SU offered me Digital Raw and Airport Utility updates that I'd already previously installed before doing the fresh install.

  • Can't reinstall Tiger 10.4.6

I previously upgraded from the original Panther 10.3 on my Power PC G4 with the Black retail upgrade disk with the large silver X (v10.4.6) that I purchased from Apple and everything was fine for 2 years. This month I installed a new internal ADA 320 Gb drive (properly using the correct jumper in the back) and installed Tiger on this drive using the install disk. Now I reformated the original drive (60Gb Mac OS EXtended) and can't for the life of me get the Install disk to reinstall Tiger on the reformated drive. It gets half way thru and freezes. The same thing occurs on my 500 GB external LaCie Drive (Firewire). I have tried to install using cutom and just the basic essentials to no avail. I would like to be able to have an alternate drive to start up from but so far have been frustrated. I even reinstalled the original Panther on these drives (performed easily and no problem) so that the Tiger Install disk can do an archieve and install but alas to no avail. Anybody have any suggestions as to what's wrong with my Tiger Install Disk.

It sounds to me like it could be the disc, or it could be the optical drive. You have to reduce the equation to one unknown by using a different drive or different disc to see which one (if either) it is.
Another way to get the OS onto that drive is to do a complete bootable backup clone. Of course this won't be as clean an OS as a fresh installation but will work until you have the issue sorted out.
    Cloning And Backup Tools
A bootable clone is an exact copy of your drive which is capable of booting your computer. Making a copy of your computer which is capable of actually starting the computer requires special copying procedures. Some people just back up data files but if you have problems you have to reinstall all your operating system and all your applications. With a bootable clone you just start up from the backup drive and clone back everything.
To copy files from one hard drive to another hard drive you can use:

  • Does anyone know if the "convert to trial on launch" issue has a solution?

I have CS6 (purchase, not cloud) and have to enter my serial number pretty much every time I open one of the programs. Opening a file is now an 11 step process. I have been patient (though annoyed, of course with the disruption to the workflow) that Adobe will come through and solve this, but as the weeks go by I wonder if it is actually being addressed? I am a graphic design student so I am running these programs every day.
According to this, it was a know issue being worked on. But this was written a while ago:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/64-bit-creative-suite-applications-repeatedly.htm l
This week I decided to try contacting Tech Support. They had me uninstall, run Adobe cleaner, reinstall. The problem continues.
Kim: In your experience has that solved this problem? I know there have been many that have this issue and I did not come across that as a solution. I will try this though.
Subhabrata: Yes, It will be fine after re install.
Kim: Okay, I will try that.
Subhabrata: Because this is an issue with the permission
So do I bother with Tech Support again? If there is no solution yet, I don't want to run in circles trying things that won't work just to pacify me.

    Hi Jeff,
First off thanks for taking a look.
I am running Windows 7 on a fairly new Dell (Oct 2012). Interesting about the 'identifying as two computers'. I do have a partition and it is set up as a dual boot sytem (Windows 7 installed on both partitions) We do this whenever we buy a new computer to create a clean install - since removing all the junk Dell loads in is impossible - we reinstall Windows on the new partition. Once everything is running smoothly we would normally remove the partition with the "junk" install. I never got around to removing the partition and the dual boot. I don't know if this would be related to the problem or not - and CS6 is only installed once on the computer but felt it was worth mentioning. Would the activation be accessing info at the bios level?
Let me know if you think this could be the issue. I can go in and do the partition deletion anytime.

  • Trying to reinstall Tiger but my HD won't mount!

My Powerbook would not boot up. It was stuck at a blue screen after the apple on the white background. Ran Techtool passed all tests and repaired permissions. Still no boot
Tried to run Diskwarrior but it would restart while app was loading.
Decided to reinstall Tiger but the installer is not seeing my hard drive!!! Ran disk utility from installation disk (retail 10.4.6)could not repair volume. Message was directory files should be 2 instead of 3.
Tried to mount the disk but was unable. Said to run utility to repair. Whewwww...
Okay, I have everything backed up, now I just want to start over. Should I erase the hard drive and then try to reinstall? Please help!!!

    iMac G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It looks like you're going to have to do that, since DiskWarrior won't run, so you can't tell what might be wrong with the disk. I'd zero out the drive and then restore from your backup if possible; otherwise I'd reinstall from the OS X install discs, then Repair Disk, Repair Permissions, and then update to 10.4.7 using the 10.4.7 Combo Update.

Always remember to 'de-authorize' you computer when selling or sending for service. If sending for repairs you might not get the same mother board or HD back and some how this counts as an authorized computer against your count.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
