Does reloading OS permanantly delete all of the log files
I'm selling my early 2009 MBP. I'm not that concerned with the hardrive cause there's not much on it and nothing that cant's be seen by someone else. I've never kept any personal numbers or photos or anything. So I'll probably do a simple cleaning and let it go. I do want to make sure all of the log files are gone and can't be recovered. I'm reinstalling the OS will this do it?
The newly-created log files don't contain the data of the previous ones and will be deleted when you erase the entire drive. As long as you've securely erased the previously-created ones, that part of it is done.

Does Time Machine Ever Delete All Traces of a File?
I have a question. I have read up on Time Machine on various articles, posts, and documents across the web and I am having a hard time understanding exactly how time machine deletes files.
When a disk is full, does Time Machine ever make the decision to delete the last copy or version of a file, therefore completely erasing it off the disk forever? I know that Time Machine deletes older versions of files, but will it ever completely delete the last, final backup of a file to make space? If so, I can't imagine using Time Machine as a true piece of backup software. It seems like it would be useful in restoring your computer in an emergency, but as far as backing up files, it seems that it would be catastrophic, because it may choose to delete the last remaing version of a file to make space and you end up losing that file for ever.
Here is an example:
I create a file X.doc
Time Machine backs it up.
I modify X.doc
Time Machine backs up the copy, keeping both the original and the new copy on the backup drive.
I modify X.doc yet again.
Time Machine drive runs out of space. Time Machine deletes the oldest version of X.doc and backs up the new copy.
I create 10 more files unrelated to X.doc
Will Time Macine remove all remaining versions of X.doc to make space for the 10 new files???
I hope I am making sense.Derek Doublin1 wrote:

The worst TM can do is delete all your older copies of files, not the most recent version.
If the drive is full, then it can't accept any more files period.
If you had a full 100GB boot drive and a 100GB TM drive, the TM drive would be a copy of the boot drive with no room for saved states.
If you changed a file on the full boot drive, then TM updates that file on it's full drive, there will be no copy of the previous version of that file.
TimeMachine makes for a poor pernament backup system, because lets say you do a major files addition to your boot drive, TM backs that up and can go ahead and delete files you realized you accidentially deleted just a few short days ago.
It's better than nothing and works ok for newbies, but more seasoned types use many backup methods in addition to TM, because corruption creep is possible with TM as well as malware as it's hooked up so often, in a lot of cases all the time.

How can I delete ALL of the offline files in the catalog?
I have Photoshop Elements 10, and a catalog with over 60,000 items in it.
About 10,000 of those items were on an external drive ("E: Drive"). The E drive crashed, and all of those files are now on a different external drive, the F drive.
On the E drive, they were in a very disorganized folder structure with hundreds of sub-folders. I think the easiest thing to do will be do just dump all the catalog entries related to the E drive and re-catalog them from the F drive, with a better structure.
However, the only way I can see to do this is to manually delete EACH of the hundreds of subfolders.
Any ideas for me?
Thanks!
Mary MillerIf you're willing to directly modify the database, this procedure can be used to change all instances of your E: drive to your F: drive. The images will show in Organizer as "disconnected", but at least you can use "Reconnect all missing files" and point the reconnection process to the root folder of your F: drive. Or, you can use the Thumbnail View to select all the "disconnected" files and delete them from the catalog (but not from disk).
The fastest way is to directly change the values in the catalog.pse10db database. The database is a SQL Lite database, so if you know (or know someone who knows) how to run SQL queries against a database, you're in luck because Adobe did an excellent job of designing a highly normalized database schema.
I highly recommend first trying this on a copy of your database. In general, the procedure goes like this:
Run a SQL query against the volume_table table to see a listing of all the rows.
Note the values of the "id" column for your "E:" volume and the "F:" volume.
Run a SQL query against the media_table table to update the value of the volume_id column, replacing all instances of the "E:" id number with the id number of your "F:" drive. The SQL query will look something like this:
Update media_table
set volume_id = "<your new value>"
where volume_id = "<your old value>"
I use the free Database.Net SQL tool:
http://www.fishcodelib.com/Database.htm
which is simple to install -- just extract the executable file.
Good luck!

i have moved all of my data to an external hard drive should i then delete the copies on my laptop
What are you actually trying to accomplish? Backing up the library, or moving it?
If backing up don't delete anything.
If moving did you move the library files as well? Ideally you would copy the entire iTunes folder out to the external drive then shift-start iTunes to connect to the relocated library. This method makes it easier to move the library to a new drive or computer later and keeps everything together for backing up. Rather than delete everything rename the iTunes or iTunes Media folder first (depending on which approach you took) and make sure the library still works before deleting.

My old laptop appears to be a victim of Bit Rot according to an IT person who was here helping me. All of the support material I've seen so far related to moving bookmarks from one computer to another seem to assume that Firefox can be launched on the old computer (which can't be done in my case). I'd like to figure out how to use the files which may hold my extensive bookmark data while the old computer is still allowing me to access those files and save to a removable thumb drive.
Fortunately I seem to have found and still have access to the old Profile files you're mentioning but I don't know how to make use of them such that Firefox on my new computer can incorporate all the data they hold. Again, I'm not able to open Firefox on the old computer. Any ideas how to use these .sqlite files on the new computer to get myself operable how I had been w. Firefox on the old broken one?

I tried seveal times using different synch options ... all unsuccessful.Hey finterra,
Thanks for the question. With iOS 7 you can now delete your entire music library from your device. Simply navigate to Settings > General > Usage > Music then tap Edit, tap the minus symbol, then tap Delete.

How long does it take to delete all the files in a lost MacBook Pro?
How long does it take to delete all the files in a lost MacBook Pro?
Quite a while since there may be 1/2 million files or more to delete. There is only one quick way, and that is to reformat the drive.

Does a factory reset delete all and make the new copy of OS completely fresh?
Hi all, so I forgot my book's passcode and I reset it from the Recovery mode. All is fine, but I was wondering does a factory reset delete all and make the new copy of OS completely fresh? All the chains, registries and all, just like a fresh copy of Windows ? Or did I mixed up all...
P.S. Strange after the factory reset and the system's downloading I got this as apps (of course some are downloaded by me)does a factory reset delete all and make the new copy of OS completely fresh?
Actually, the "delete all" part is done by your using Disk Utility to erase the partition, as part of your clean install. -
HT201318 Does deleting all of the users work to wipe a computer to sell?
I had an old computer that I was trying to sell and when I went to wipe it out before the buyer picked it up, I deleted all of the users on the device to get rid of my old files. When I went to check that the hard drive was empty, it showed that it was still somewhat full. Is the data still there, If yes, where did it go?

I deleted an e-mail account from my I Phone. Unfortunately it deleted all of the contacts from my phone. Is there a way to restore those contacts?
Add the account back to your phone and enable contacts syncing with the account and the contacts will reappear on your phone. If you want them in iCloud, you'll have to copy them to your iCloud account. If you need assistance doing this, reply back and I'll help you.

How do I wipe/delete all of the data in my Mail App on OS10.10?
I want to delete everything connected to Mail App on my OS X device.
How do I wipe/delete all of the data in my Mail App on OS10.10?
Thank you.Remove your email accounts from Mail. Quite Mail. Navigate to the /Home/Library/ folder. Locate the Mail folder and drag it to the Trash. Go to the Preferences folder and locate all preference files starting with "com.apple.mail" and drag them to the Trash. Go to the Containers folder and drag the two com.apple. mail related folders to the Trash.
Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN.
B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
~/Library
Press the Go button.
Do not re-open Mail lest it attempt to re-populate all that information from iCloud. -

Excahange 2007 Need to permanently delete all emails older than x years
Cant get to the 2007 forum so don't know if this is the right place.
Trying to permanently delete all mail older than 4 years from our Exchange 2007 server. I have worked with Powershell in 2010 (Exchange)
but I cannot run due to some restrictions with 32/64 bit powershell limitations in exchange 2007.
I have searched google and these forums -- there has to be an easy way to do this or someone that can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advanceHi,
In Exchange 2007, you can use the following cmdlet to delete emails older than the mentioned date from a mailbox.
Export-Mailbox -Identity xxx -StartDate "xx/xx/xxxx" -EndDate "xx/xx/xxxx" -DeleteContent
If you need to perform this on a set of mailboxes, paste all display names to a TXT file, name is as "test.txt". Run the following cmdlet.
Get-Content test.txt | Export-Mailbox -StartDate "xx/xx/xxxx" -EndDate "xx/xx/xxxx" –DeleteContent –Maxthreads 4
Hope this can be helpful to you.
Best regards,
Amy Wang
