Does Remote Desktop Work on Mac

I have convinced my father to go Mac. He is nearing retirement from his practice and most of his time is spent messing with pictures of the grandkids, but he is not retiree yet and still needs to connect at night to his offices PC's through remote desktop. I know there is a version of Remote Desktop you can download from Microsoft, but my question is does this do the same thing as the PC version. Will he be able to connect and uses windows through his office?

The version from Microsoft is very buggy and crashes a lot for me. I've had better luck with CoRD (which crashes on rare occasions) and have compiled the Linux rdesktop, which runs like lightning but doesn't have the nice features of CoRD.

  • How does Remote Desktop work if I have different osx?

I have to access a power mac running 10.5.8 (A) from a newer mac (B).
It is my understanding that the latest version of Apple Remote Desktop is not compatible with the older operating system (A).
The question is: do I have to purchase two different copies of the ARD (one for "A" another for "B")?
The quest for the old version has been unsuccessful so far.
Any ideas, corrections or recommedations are welcomed.

    Hi
"The quest for the old version has been unsuccessful so far"
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC172Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
The version in the linked url will install and work for all versions of the OS going back to at least 10.4 (Tiger). It will also install and work for 10.7 (assuming you did not purchase it via the App Store) but you have to follow these instructions to install it properly:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4055?locale=en_US
Once installed run Software Update and the appropriate update should be available for whatever OS version you have installed.

  • Remote Desktop Client for Mac and SSO

    Hi.
We have RDS Deployment (Windows Server 2012 R2) with RD Connection Brokers, RD Session Hosts and Web Access.
Windows clients log on without any issues, credentials must be entered only once (Single Sign On).
But Mac clients must enter their credentials twice (on CB and SH).
Does Remote Desktop Client for Mac support SSO and if it does, what special settings are required?
Mac users use Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.0.13.

Sorry, I have missed important detail. This problem appears when I open .rdp files.
Really, if I create connection and save my credentials, I will not enter credentials. But in this case I can't specify Collection
(loadbalanceinfo:s:tsv://MS Terminal Services Plugin.1.SomeCollection - parameter in .rpd file).
In my case, I open .rdp file, connect to RD Connection Broker, log in to RD CB, RD CB redirects me to RD
Session Host, I log in to RD SH (enter credential second time) and now I connect. In this chain could be a RD Gateway.
When I connect to the same farm with the same .rdp file from Windows client, I have enter credential only once (SSO works).
    So my question: Does  Remote
Desktop Client for Mac support SSO? I know that SSO require CredSSP, is it implemented in Client for Mac?

  • Can i set up remote desktop with my Mac Air and Windows 7 HP desktop?

I am wanting to set up remote desktop with my Mac Air and HP windows 7 home edition desktop.  Is this possible and how do I begin setting this up?
    Thanks for the help!

There is an app in the Mac App Store to use Microsoft Remote Desktop with a Mac: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12
But according to their support site it requires Pro, Enterprise, or Ultimate in the Windows 7 side. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn473006.aspx
If it was me, I would first look into Teamviewer to see if it will do what you need. It does work between Mac and Windows and it is free for non-commercial use. http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

  • Remote Desktop to my mac at home

Hi I want to be able to access my home Mac Mini from anywhere using my Macbook. I was thinking about trying Remote Desktop but I saw on the website it says "instant, at-a-glance view of the remote computers in your network". So does this mean that it only works on the computers on the same LAN?
Can I use Remote Desktop to access my Mac Mini from afar?

Yes, it works over the internet.

  • Remote Desktop Connection for Mac - connection lost after a minute idle

    Hi There,
I am trying to connect from a Macbook Pro to my work (XP) machine using the latest Remote Desktop Connection for Mac.
It used to work fine, and recently it has been dropping the connection if I've not been 'active' for a minute or so.
What is confusing is that it is not always like this. Some days, I can leave it inactive for hours over lunch etc, and I'll come back and it will be fine. And just the other day, in the morning it dropped me out ever minute or so I was inactive, and then the afternoon was fine, and the evening was troublsome again.
Our administrators had not changed anything during that time, nor had I changed anything on my XP machine at work, or my Mac at home.
I connect via a wireless connection.
These problems occur when running on battery and when plugged in.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    ThreeIsles

Since RDC is not an Apple product, you should post your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac version of RDC:

  • Downgrade Microsoft Remote Desktop Client for Mac

Is there a way to downgrade to a previous version of the microsoft remote desktop client for mac? We are experiencing issues with one of our published remote apps (regarding window focus i.e. which window of the open application is at the front of the
users screen) since upgrading to 8.0.9. This application was OK in 8.0.5. Can we revert to an older version?

We are also experiencing similar issues regarding window sizes and display settings with our remote resources, since upgrading. We are using remote desktop application for iPhone/iPad. Upon opening of our Remote App, although we have set the command-line
argument to open to full screen, we see the application resizing 3 times before it finally opens - and it does not open in full screen. Please assist.

P.S. The Mac Pro is a desktop.  The MacBook Pro is a notebook computer labelled such under the screen.  MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control, a network address for networking devices.  Mac is shorthand for both the operating system and the computers made by Apple Inc.
Ok, I know this is an old thread, but seriously?  Just relax.  People are going to be saying iTouch, Mac Store, Oh Es Ex, etc... no matter how enlightened you try to make everyone.  So they capitalized MAC.  It's clear what they were talking about.  Just calm down and don't be that IT guy.  It's people like you who give us a bad name.  On second thought, keep it up. It makes friendly people like me more attractive for job openings.

    Hi,
As far as I know, Java is not required for the Microsoft Remote Desktop client for Mac.
Please make sure that you download and install this App for the link below.

  • Does Yahoo messenger work on Mac?

Does yahoo messenger work on Mac? If not do any nobody know how to get it to work?

    Hi,
It is  along time since I used it.
My Understanding is that it is a cross between what iChat can do and a web feed of your Video and then an audio chat.
iChat can Enter Chatrooms for Text chats only.
These can be On-line or Chatrooms held on the AIM Server
They can be chatrooms held between your Buddies (Group Chats)
Separate to that iChat can do Audio or Video Chats, in some cases with Multiple people.
IF a Buddy in a group Text chat is also in your Buddy list you can invite them toa video chat or an Audio chat but it is not the same as chatting "in the room".
Last time I Checked Yahoo for Mac allowed you to continuously broadcast a Video stream which you can allow Buddies to see.
You then add an audio Chat to that.
As far as I am aware you cannot enter a text chat room and Audio chat with the people there  "en masse".
    Re ds store's link
Yahoo is about to be added to iChat 6 in Lion.
This is likely to be the same sort of Addition that Jabber (And therefore Googletalk) was, when that was added back in iChat 3
iChat 5 can currently Video Chat from a Jabber/Google Buddy List on your iChat to any Buddy also using iChat if they are using a Jabber or Google Talk ID  (It cannot chat across different services)
It Cannot Video to other Jabber apps, including the standalone PC app callled GoogleTalk.
It cannot Video to someone using the Google Plug-in for Web Browser (PC or Mac) when they are logged in to the Google Mail Web Page and using the chat option there.
