Does "resaving" reduce PDF print quality?

After replacing a page and re-saving, my file size reduces 1/10th of size, which is great, but does it lose quality? No changes, just replacing a page. Using Indesign CS6, I export super high res PDF with special settings as it is 4-color graphic  textbook with Corel illustrations. For example, a 1.5 gb file becomes 117 mb after resaving. I'm having huge problems uploading such large files and would love to use the smaller size versions. But cannot lose quality. Any help appreciated. Using Acrobat 9 Pro to resave.

There is no background per se, but there are sometimes four graphics on each page. THis is a quarter of a page. No, I don't want to use any "PDF Optimizer" because the client is very strict, and justifiably so, about sharpness of images so I wouldn't want to do any converting after doing the original export. Hope that makes sense. But above Dave Merchant confirmed that if I just SAVE or SAVE AS, I'll be ok.

  • HP LaserJet 1018 .pdf print quality

When I print a .pdf, the print quality is very poor with a faint print density and imprecise edges.
    I am running Windows 7 32-bit.
    Anyone else have this issue?
Other print requests (.docx, .xlsx, etc.) are better, but not up to the same standard as when I ran XP.

Hello dpop75, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at the LaserJet Commercial Forums.

  • Re: MBP Retina with CS6, does OpenType display at print-quality?

    Preface:
I'm a Graphic Design major. I have to work with a lot of text and with InDesign, obviously. On a non-Retina display, I can't trust my computer's screen to display text at print-quality. This means that I have to potentially print dozens of pages while working with text to be sure the kerning and adjustments I've made will print correctly.
    Question:
I'm considering purchasing MacBook Pro the Retina version, but I need to be sure it's a good investment. I know Retina is suppose to "rival" the printed page. But are Retina and CS6 compatible and designed well enough that I can trust my computer screen to display text at the exact same quality as I would see on the printed page?
    Background:
To give an idea of what I have to deal with on a normal computer screen: If I have InDesign open on a non-Retina display and I type out a line of text, if I then zoom the screen in and out and watch the text closely while doing this, it will appear as though the relative width of some lines and the distances between letters are changing. (You should easily be able to confirm this on your own computer.) For example, the stem of one letter might appear to become fatter than the stems of others at one moment, and then may appear skinnier than others at another moment.
Obviously this means I can't trust what I see on the computer screen when I'm working with text. And that's a serious issue for me.
I assume this occurs as a consequence of the conversion process between vector-to-pixel format for OpenType text combined with the low resolution of the computer screen I'm working on. Going to Retina display may help eliminate one of those issues, but if InDesign CS6 was not designed to take full advantage of the Retina display, then this problem may still persist on the higher resolution screen.

Thanks for that quick response Dendrek.
It is so hard to convince myself not to give in to the expensive temptation of the Retina MBP when I have all but completely convinced myself that I really need it! I probably will go for it anyway - since I am upgrading from my mid 2007 17" Macbook Pro which is currently at Apple Service, awaiting final verdict on whether I will need to pay for a new display, the decision seems to be a lot simpler for me. Will buy the rMBP and hope that the Adobe team catches up soon enough (and that an update to InDesign is part of their "make CS Retina optimized" plan for later this year). Like you said, it is just a matter of ID pixel-doubling everything.
On a side note - Until such an update arrives I was thinking of trying to use my (3rd generation) Retina iPad with Air Display as a second "preview display" for InDesign documents - using the document in "New Window" feature of InDesign, which allows you to have a duplicate view of the same document at its own zoom settings, with live changes. Am not sure if this configuration works as logic dictates it should (since the latest version of Air Display is apparently Retina optimized and should therefore show the document at full resolution), but will give it a shot as soon as I have access to a Mac again. Have you ever tried this setup to achieve the "print-quality" preview that you and I (and many others) want to see? Would need a Retina iPad of course.
    Thanks again for your input.

  • Printing To PDF Printer Driver from within a program

Does the Adobe PDF Printer Driver allow parameters for file name and no display of resulting PDF.  I want to print to it and create a specifically named file without being asked for the filename and with a 'preview' display.  If I cannot do this, what do I need?  Is there an SDK, and if so, is there a run time that can be distributed without royalty along with apps developed using the SDK.  I generally use GDPicture control for this but wondered if I could do it with Acrobat.

Please ask in the Acrobat SDK forum.

  • PDF printer not working, does not create PDF

I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8 with Adobe Acrobat XI.
Whenever I try to print a PDF though the printer function the PDF printer opens for a few seconds and no PDF is created.
Here is an example of the report when I open a file with in the Acrobat Distiller:

    Can anybody help?
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the answere.
I still have the above mentioned problem when trying to print a pdf from a pdf (to reduce size) and when trying to print a pdf out of Indesign ( I dont want to use the export to pdf function because of file size).
When tryiing to print a pdf from a pdf through adobe acrobat pro the printer menue opens. When I click on printer I can choose the option choose 'save as Adobe PDF' but then the error message appears that saving as a pdf while printing is not supported. That I should choose file - save.  Is that the only way to do it? The file gest bigger instead of smaller, even when I use a low resolution for the pictures. Can't I print  PDFs as PDF somehow through the Distiller.
When I try to print a PDF with Indesign the Indesign-printing window appears. When I click on the printer and choose 'save as PDF' the Indesign simply jumps back to ints own printer window and ignores my choice. Therefor it does not seem to be possible to print a pdf from Indesign through the PDF printer?!
    Thankful for any comments.

  • Light print quality from PDF documents

    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Adobe Reader 9.0
After scanning a document to PDF form when I print the document the print quality is very light, not nearly as dark as the origianl document. I have reset the laser printer to "best quality" & "dark" print settings but that improves the print quality only marginally.
How can I scan a document to PDF format then get a printed document nearly as good as the original one?
    Thanks

  • Print Dialogue does not show print quality options on MacBook

I am trying to print wirelessly from my Macbook Pro to a HP 5500 connected to G5. I can print no problems, but I can't control the print quality as this option does not appear in the print dialogue box.
When I print the same page from my G4 powerbook I get print quality options in the dialogue. Both laptops are running 10.4.8 and connecting wirelessly by an airport network. The printer is plugged in the G5 not an airport express.

    Hi there,
As Scapesuiter has mentioned, it would be best to check the HP web site to see if there is a Universal driver for your printer. These are drivers that have been written to work on the new Intel Mac's and on the previous Power PC (PPC) Mac's.
If there isn't a Universal driver, you can still use the older PPC driver, however you will experience problems like you are getting when printing from a Universal application via a PPC driver. Usually you see a line through the option that is not available, but I guess another symptom could be that the option is not viewable. Anyway, for some Universal applications, you can choose to open them using the Rosetta emulator. With the application closed, select its icon in the Finder and do a Get Info (Cmd - I). In the window that appears there may be the option "Open using Rosetta". If there is, select this option, close the window and open the application. Now try to print and see if the option is present.

  • Windows Server 2008R2 running Remote Desktop Services reports printer process does not exist when installing PDF printer

Windows Server 2008R2 running Remote Desktop Services reports printer process does not exist when installing PDF printer, And when Installing network printers from the domain controller it reports it cannot connect to printer.  I can ping all
network devices. I can connect to the internet.
On boot I get a netlogon 5719 error followed by service control manager errors 7023,7001 and a group policy error 1129.
Clients can connect to the remote application and RDP operates to connect to the server internally and externally.
The domain controller is another server 2008r2 box. I have scoured the internet but have not found any solutions that work yet.

    Hi,
After referring to your post, it can be identified that the issue which you are facing is mostly due to some network issue in your environment. Please recheck your network connection issue between computer and domain controller.
Can you able to ping with IP address and also with fully qualified name of a domain controller in the users' and computers' domain. If it fails states that name resolution issue with computer and domain controller. Are you using MS DHCP Relay agent then there’s
available Hotfix for the particular Event ID. Please go through this KB 2459530 to fix the error event ID.
As per the net logon error 5719 which you are facing states that the client component of Netlogon was unable to locate a DC for the domain it was trying to perform an operation against. Below is one of the reason. If this is being logged on a DC and the event
refers to the DC's own domain, something might be preventing the client component of Netlogon from starting a network session (to itself or to another DC in the domain). The following event 7001 & 7023 states start & stop operation service. Please
go through beneath article for more details.
    1.  Event ID 5719 is logged when you start a computer
    2.  Netlogon 5719 and the Disappearing Domain [Controller]
    3.  Event ID 1129 — Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy
    Hope it helps!

  • Why does my Acrobat Pro 9 PDF print driver either lock up or become confused as to where it should store a file when printing a document from within the Firefox browser?

I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 for creating .pdf files on a Windows XP SP3 platform. Firefox 6.0.2 is my browser of choice. This question only applies to the .pdf printing process. All other printer drivers work fine with this version of Firefox.
In attempt to save paper, I choose to print most documents in an electronic .pdf format using the PDF print driver and save them to my USB drive. Before upgrading my Firefox version to 6.0.2 this process seemed to work fine but after upgrading the .pdf print process seems to be experiencing problems. This particular printing process will cause Firefox to lock up when the distiller tries to print the file to what I believe is a temporary folder under the Adobe folder. When it does this I am sometimes able to force it to complete the process but frequently it will only produce a log not a .pdf file. On other occasions the distiller will just lock up mid print without producing any kind of error message. In both cases I will frequently have to use Windows Task Manager to break out of the process which then shuts down the Firefox browser. I don't seem to have any problems when I use Internet Explorer to perform the same function. As far as I am aware I am running the most current drivers as Adobe automatically pushes down updates to me as they become available. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue or is it inherent to the new version of Firefox?

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.

  • Acrobat 7.0 Pro pdf printer does not populate? Error says printer port.

I got a new computer and was installing Creative Suite & Acrobat pro and the Adobe PDF printer does not show up in the Printers. I downloaded the upgrade and Windows says it cannot install.
I am running Windows 7 Pro

Two parts of AA 7 will not install on Win 7 (32 or 64-bit): the Adobe PDF printer and AcroTray.exe. You can install a separate color PS printer (either one from Adobe or possibly one for an HP color PS printer), change the name to Adobe PDF and change the port to FILE. That should do the job, but you will ALWAYS have an extra step in the creation of a PDF. You will have to print to the printer and a PS file will be created (probably with a PRN extension). You then have to open that file in Distiller to create a PDF. From my brief testing, this process will work and the rest of Acrobat and Distiller seem to work (though I did not test extensively). If this is unacceptable to you, then purchase AA XI (upgrade not available from AA 7).

  • Adobe pdf printer does not appear

I downloaded Adobe Reader 9 to my HP laptop, but the Adobe pdf printer does not appear on the list of available printers. My HP says it has AMD Turion (tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-34 and Windows XP (Version 2002, Service Pack 2). Can someone tell me how to get the Adobe pdf printer to appear in the list of available printers? Thanks. dmm

Reader is just for the reading pdf files. It does not create pdf files.
For that you need one of the commercial Acrobat products. If you only
need to create 5 or less pdfs, then you can use Acrobat.com.

  • Adobe PDF Does Not Appear In printer List

My computer runs Windows XP. Acrobat Standard 6 is installed. "Adobe pdf" does not show in the list of printers. I have installed all available updates, but it still does not show in printer list. I have done a google search on this and have come up with nothing. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Try to re-install it, after deleting all folders from previous instalation. If still not works, lets see, are you the adm of your network? If not, may this is a network permission while trying to install a new printer. It can be different versions of acrobats installed at same computer too.

  • How to set the orientation in Adobe X and does this affect whether PDF prints in landscape/portrait

How do I set the orientation for a PDF document in Adobe X?  Also if I set the orientation in Adobe X then does that mean the printer will automatically print it in either portrait or landscape or would that have to be configured on the printer?

Under Document (or TOOLS in AAX) you use Rotate Pages. When saved, the document should retain the rotation. As for the print, I think it will still print OK, but am not sure. Bottom line, just try it (that is exactly what I would do) on a page or two.

The symptoms and possible workarounds didn't seem to apply and a couple of the suggestions (disabling certain services) didn't look right. But throughout the KB article it indicating doing a reinstall of Acrobat using the Help menu to do a Repair.
So, I selected the Repair command on the Help menu WITHOUT doing any of their recommendations and lo-n-behold, the Adobe PDF driver appeared! What am I missing??? It does work but I am suspicious.
