Does researching plugins help firefox recognize them for all users?

I am quite clueless when it comes to computing, it took me ages to find the any key! ;) I like Firefox's commitment to it's users and wondered if researching an unknown plugin would be useful to the community or would it just update on my computer?

If you want to update your plugins and some plugins are unrecognized, they are likely to be automatically updated by software on your computer, or they do not need to be updated at all, as they are not very vulnerable. The point of updating your plugins is to prevent hacking and exploits by criminals, and they will most likely target plugins like JAVA or Adobe Flash Player (which are updated and recognized), so you will not have to worry about unrecognized plugins, anyway. In the case that you do want to update, you can search up the plugin's name online and download its update, if available. (Just avoid shady update websites) For example, to update a plugin like "Windows Media Player plugin", search "Windows Media Player Plugin latest version" on a search engine. (I believe an automated research button appears next to unknown plugins on the update page)

  • HELP - Change cache location for ALL users.

I am in desperate mode here, so I appreciate any help...
I just installed 1.4.2_08 on my Citrix environment. I have a GPO that only allows 30mb of data to be saved in their profile and this is the max that I can make it. The problem is that the website created that uses this version of JRE creates a an 11mb file twice in the users profile. This blows up their session and they are no longer allowed to log off until I go in and clear it off. I've only had about 10 users that I have had to do this too, but I can see it's going to get a lot higher. Basically I want to change the cache location for all users, not just my profile, and redirect it to the users 'My Documents' folder. This way my GPO that then redirects the users 'My Documents' folder can have this folder on their home drive.
    Please, help! Thanks a bunch!!

I had the same problem, but fixed it with this solution:
    I added [deployment.user.cachedir=c\:\\temp\\cache] to the deployment.properties file.
    (located at C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment)
Then i deleted the cache directory.
Now i am making my one Transform file for the deployment of java 1.6.0_05.
Does anyone knows how i can change the cache files etc in my transform file.
    Thanks a lot!!

  • Make firefox default browser for all users without firefox checking for default browser

    Hi,
we have 2 citrix servers in the same farm . We want to make firefox the default browser for all of our users. We also want to ignore the settings that they decide themselves influencing the default browser.<br />
Now the citrix forum suggested that i made a gpo that edits the folowing register keys:
HKCR\http\shell\open\command Change the value in the default key to firefox.exe location.<br />
HKCR\http\shell\open\ddeexec Change the value in the default key to Firefox HKCR\https\shell\open\command Change the value in the default key to firefox.exe location.<br />
HKCR\https\shell\open\ddeexec Change the value in the default key to Firefox
so i did that , and all our links now open through firefox.<br />
However we still get the question to make firefox our default browser while it already is defined as default browser since it opens links using firefox.
the 2nd strange thing we encountered is when we open pdf's using firefox , firefox opens but the pdf's won't open untill we make firefox default browser using the provided popup window when we start firefox<br />
i have googled this for days now without a proper answer . i even tried to run the "firefox.exe -silent -setDefaultBrowser" command to fix it on my personal profile without any luck.that's why i am relying on your answer

Just in case, check this article for the missing information

  • Firefox is crashing for all users on my machine except me. How do I sort?

This morning I had a prompt that a Windows update was available so I chose to update my machine (I don't normally). Once the update was applied, I couldn't start Firefox as it crashed immediately, saying "Mozilla Crash Reporter - Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts". I performed a system recovery back to yesterday and I can now run Firefox fine as my user, but none of my family can under their users (we are all set as administrators). Any idea what I need to do to get them back on Firefox please?

    Signature: Pltfrm.dll@0x1977b

Copying a profile folder and replacing another with it should work ok, but remember that everything is stored there, not just settings. It's bookmarks, passwords, history and all. To access your profile folder, access ''about:support'' in your location bar and click "Open containing folder". Remember that profile folders may be named differently from user to user. If you want to replace them, replace the contents. Be sure to back up your data first, too.
But before you do that, you may want to try creating a new profile ( [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles managing profiles] ) to see if the issues persist. If they do, it's possible that some kind of third party software is hindering Firefox...

Okay, I've sussed it.  I saw a link to another discussion that hadn't turned up in any of my searches before I posted the question above.
My Tosh HDD was formatted to FAT 32 and therefore would not be backed up by Time Machine.  I removed all data from it - nightmare as I hadn't enough space to put it on the macbook HDD, but, after trawling through numerous photos and deleting rubbish for hours, I finally made enough space and copied all data across.  Then, after clearing the data from the Tosh HDD, I used disk utilitity to reformat it to Mackintosh OS Extended.  Chose the option without kournalling because I'm not baking up onto this disk and so don't need it - according to some other discussions I found.
When it was done I check on time machine in system prefs and once I selected options, I was able to remove it from the excluded from backups list.  Hey presto.  Now I'm moving my photo library and my music library onto the Tosh HDD and my macbook should start to breath again.  Hurray.

  • Please quit breaking Firefox 3 Theme for Firefox 4+ Reloaded every time you up-version FF... I *hate* the bland theme that is now your default.

I'm sick of every update to Firefox breaking the "Firefox 3 Theme for Firefox 4+" add-on, and now the "Firefox 3 Theme for Firefox 4+ Reloaded" add-on. I hate the new boring, monochrome theme that was introduced years ago, and have always replaced it with the more usable and colorful theme from FF3, but virtually every time you up-version FF, it breaks the theme. I'm obviously not alone in this opinion, or no one would have bothered to create and attempt to maintain these themes over the years.
Can you please either re-incorporate this theme as an officially supported option into the core product, or just quit breaking the add-ons that people have graciously created for those of us who like the older look and feel. I have not bothered to update to FF26 or 27 because of this, and am sick of having to hack xpi files to fake out the supported version range every time your release number increments break some theme or add-on that I rely on.
    Thanks!

I agree, Mozilla needs to stop messing up the themes. Let the programmers install the Fire 3 Theme for those of us that want it.
And they can leave their insane default theme for those idiots that like
a bland, colorless look. But give the users a choice and don't try to tell me or anyone else that you can not do it or that it has to be "their way" .. That is a sure way to alienate people from your product. It obviously can be fixed without compromising the so called better security of the new Firefox.

  • Why does Firefox 31 change all PDF icons and opening in browser, require a fix using REGEDIT to fix for ALL USERS on a computer?

The solution to use REGEDIT in the question linked below almost fixed my trouble with PDF files on over 30 computers, with several users on each computer:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1013642
But I needed to fix it for ALL users on a computer, without logging onto each account, on each computer. My fix was to logon as administrator and change the following system-global key instead:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.pdf
    Name: Default
    Type: Reg_SZ
    Data: FirefoxHtm
Changed the data from FirefoxHtm to AcroExch.Document.11
I use Adobe Reader XI on Win7 Pro, 64-bit machines.
The problem started when I ran a downloaded file to install the new version of Firefox on the computers.
Why would Firefox require me to use REGEDIT in this manner to fix the problem?

This only happens when you set Firefox as the default browser and Firefox thinks that there is currently no application the handles PDF files.

  • How can I set the default home page in Firefox 4 for all users that login to a PC on a Win 7 PC?

I work at a community college in upstate NY.
We use Firefox as the default browser at our institution and we have always set the default homepage to be our homepage for all users that login to the PC. We had a procedure to to that that worked with Windows XP and FF 3 or earlier
    We would do the following:
    1. go to: c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\FireFox\Profiles\<profile_name>\prefs.js
    2. Add the line: user_pref (“browser.startup.homepage”,”http://www.genesee.edu”);
    3. Copy the Folder
    C:\Documents & Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla
    To
    C:\Documents & Settings\Default User\Application Data\Mozilla
    4. Restart the computer
We're going to Win 7 and Firefox 4 and things seem to be different in terms of files and file structure. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?
    Thanks in advance.

Making customisation from the default profile is generally considered poor practice and quite often doesn't work out as planned. (If you're interested in some more information on this, [http://mockbox.net/windows-7/227-customise-windows-7-default-profile.html see here] see here)
This article should help you with developing and deploying your customised Firefox 4 installation (without touching the Windows 7 default user profile):

  • How do I completely disable initial "Checking Compatibility of Add-ons" pop-up for all users on a Citrix server where the FireFox was upgraded to 29.0.1

I have a set of Citrix servers, we need to upgrade the FireFox on them to 29.0.1
When I have done this, and a user runs FireFox, now the users are being presented with a pop-up "Checking Compatibility of Add-ons" which delays the start of FireFox.
I need to prevent this so users just see FireFox start up without any delays.
    I have installed the add-on that re-enables extensions.checkCompatibility and tried various ways of implementing it like pref("extensions.checkCompatibility", false);
However we seem to have a situation where the add-on that enables the setting is not loaded yet so the setting is not implemented.
How do I solve this for all users?

You can try to set the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone pref to ignore on the about:config
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone
You can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to specify new (default) values and possibly lock prefs.
Place a local-settings.js file in the defaults\pref folder where also the channel-prefs.js file is located to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
These functions can be used in the mozilla.cfg file:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

  • How to make custom append search help tab default for all users?

I've implemented my own search help append and I need to make the F4 search help to display my tab as default for all users. I know that search help stores the last tab used by the user in memory and when user uses the search help next time the last used tab is displayed but I have to make the system display the tab od my search help append always as default tab. Any idea how to do it?

    hi
    <b>Enhancement using Append structures</b>
Append structures allow you to attach fields to a table without actually having to modify the table itself. You can use the fields in append structures in ABAP programs just as you would any other field in the table.
Click on the append structure tab and opt to create new
    structure.
Append structures allow you to enhance tables by adding fields to them that are not part of the standard. With append structures; customers can add their own fields to any table or structure they want.
Append structures are created for use with a specific table. However, a table can have multiple append structures assigned to it
Customers can add their own fields to any table or structure they want.
The customer creates append structures in the customer namespace. The append structure is thus protected against overwriting during an upgrade. The fields in the append structure should also reside in the customer namespace, that is the field names should begin with ZZ or YY. This prevents name conflicts with fields inserted in the table by SAP

This issue can be caused by the Babylon Toolbar 1.1.8 extension
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Activate plugins for all users on a web-site

    Hello,
Is there a way to activate or whitelist plugins for a specific web-site, for all users on a Windows computer? Each time a user logs in and visits the site, they have to click three prompts to enable content. Aside from being annoying, most folks aren't that tech-savvy to understand what is going on and that they need to do it. All they want is for their content to run in the browser.
    Thanks

There are plugin.state prefs for each plugin.
    *plugin.state (0:Never Activate; 1:Ask to Activate; 2:Always Activate)
You can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify new (default) values.

How do I set Firefox to be usable for all users on one computer?

I would think the about:config entries discussed are ex-factory set to values each user has to change individually, after the installation has run its course. The solution could be to have patched files ready to install post factum:

  • HELP needed on Remote Management set to allow access for all users

my mac mini snow leopard server runs in a data center and i use screen sharing to interact with it. i played with the sharing settings remotely yesterday and changed "allow access for" to all users. i was disconnected immediately and i couldn't logon again. i have no luck changing to other users. i don't want to make a special trip to the center to change it back to whatever it used to be. i can still use afp to connect but the screen sharing option is no longer available. what does "allow access for all users" mean anyway?
    thanks!

As its name implies, allow access for all should allow any valid user account to access the server. I'm not sure why it's no longer working. It almost sounds like the ARDAgent crashed.
Either way there's a command-line interface to the ARD preferences:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/ki ckstart
man kickstart discusses the options, including examples of how to enable access for specific users.
