Does resetting your ipod mess with your songs/videos?

I have a movie that freezes at the same point every time i try to watch it on itune or on the ipod, and I've gotten the suggestion to reset the ipod--will this affect/delete my songs and videos?
Is resetting the ipod even a good idea?
Thanks,
Abby.

Yes, this is exactly the thing to do in your situation since you've got an iPod that's video freezes; reset the iPod.
Resetting the iPod is simply like restarting a computer, which does not loose it's data if everything goes normal (which it does, unless a really weird error happens).
So is the iPod. Resetting is probably the first troubleshooting step that Apple recommends with any iPod issues, and is simply is used to restart and refresh the iPod. It often cures minor little freeze ups or little glitches in the iPod's behavior.
By the way, the data on your iPod will be safe and unafffected by resetting it.

if i got a new iTunes and it doesn't have anysongs on it and my ipod does, will my ipod lose all the songs, apps and etc. i have on it if i sync it with the new itunes?

If you transfer any iTunes content to the iPhone from an iTunes library on another computer, all iTunes content on the iPhone will be erased first with a warning message provided indicating this beforehand.
Authorize the different computer with your Apple ID with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, right click on the iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Transfer Purchases. This will transfer all apps on your iPhone to the iTunes library.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
    Restart..  Reset..  Restore...
Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the iPod Off... ( if it isn’t already )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the iPod On...
If that does not help... See Here:

What does resetting your settings mean?

If you mean using Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings this causes all settings to be returned to iOS defaults. It will also clear stored WiFi hotspots.

Does resetting your iphone wipe out everything on your phone? My phone shut off tonight and I can't even restart it - it's locked in the off mode.

A reset should help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • I have an older Ipod shuffle with many songs loaded on it. How can I transfer these songs to a new computer since the old computer is no longer available

I have an oder Ipod shuffle with many songs loaded on it. How can I transfer ths songs to a new computer since the old computer is no longer available?

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

  • IPod Won't Play Songs, Videos Reset it, and it's Quite Sluggish

I have a 30GB video iPod (the old version). Everything was working fine until a few days ago, when the power on my iPod ran out because I fell asleep while listening to it. The next day when I turned it on, it said "Connect to your Computer, Use iTunes to restore" So I promptly did that, and it worked fine until I tried to play a video on it. It showed a blank screen, so I reset it by pressing the Menu and Center buttons. Then it showed the "Connect to your computer" screen again. So I restored it, and it would be fine until it locked up again and showed the "Connect to your computer screen" again. I left it alone for about eight hours, and when I tried turning it back on again, it was back to normal.I've seen that screen probably 10 times in the past 4 days, and I've restored it, just as many times.
Here's the list of problems I'm having:
    - the iPod won't play some songs when I click on them. It will show the Playing triangle in the upper left corner, but I hear no sound and the seeking bar doesn't move. I'll often have to click the Pause button, then hit it again to Play it, and then it will play the song.
    - The iPod is extremely slow. When dealing with songs or videos, it often takes a minute or more for the iPod to respond to my button clicks. Its hard drive isn't full, though; in fact I'm only using about 2 GB.
    - Videos lock up the iPod. Just about any time I want to play I video on it, it will show a blank screen and won't respond. Then I have to reset it and I get the "Connect to your computer" screen again. These aren't videos in the wrong format or anything, these are the same videos I've been playing on my iPod before with no problems, until recently.
    - Battery life is horrible. Although it hasn't been fully drained yet, judging from the power meter and how long I've been using it after it's fully charged, I'd guess it would only last about 2-3 hours. I would think it should last considerably longer, as the iPod is only about 3 months old.
Has anybody been experiencing similar problems, or know what I can do to fix it?

I've still had the same problems, but now when I try and turn on my ipod, it tells me to restore. When I do go to restore, itunes says that it cannot find the file needed to restore my ipod. The ipod itself also tried resetting itself, I guess, made it to the menu that asked what language I wanted it in, and then restarted again. This went on for an hour and a half, and I could't do anything. Is my ipod a lost cause?

  • Reset my Ipod and all my songs are gone - and I can't get them off itunes!!

I recently reset my ipod because it was frozen. Now I find that most of my music - the stuff I purchased from itunes is no longer on it. Even though my laptop is authorized - and the only computer I have that's authorized - it won't let me update my ipod with all my purchased music. Please help I am freaking out because all this music is for my reception at my wedding!!

OK, you need the iPod 101 course.
But....if you connect your iPod to your laptop, things should be back to normal.
If you want to hook your iPod up to more than one PC you have to set it for manual update....which is not the default. The default is automatic update.

  • I bought an IPOD that already has songs/videos on it. How do I ADD my songs

I bought a 60GB Ipod that has some music and some movies already on it. I have about 240 songs that I want to add to the IPOD. So resetting the IPOD or replacing the library is out of the question. How do I update to add the songs to the IPOD. Help will be very apppreciated.
    Thanks

All, you have to do is open up Itunes, go to file , add file, or folder whichever you prefere. If your files are all in one place click on add folder. This will add to your Itunes library. After that all you have to do is high lite the file you want to add then drag them to the icon that is labeled as your ipod. It's real simple. One thing you want to do maybe after is to make sure that Itunes does not update your ipod automatically cause it will wipe out any songs that are on the ipod that you bought, and replace it with the songs in your library.

  • Sync ipod version with HD version (video)

Hey, I'm new to the Apple forums sorry if this topic has already been covered however I have no idea really on what I could call this.
I have a bit of knowledge with video and I can produced high quality video for my iPod touch 8GB and my 20" iMac. My question is that can I produced two video files one optimized for my iPod and its resolution and comparable bit rate and one respectively for my iMac and have iTunes sync relevant data between the two, such as play times, position with in the video that I have watched etc.
I am aware that I could optimize the iMac version that it could be playable on both platforms however the file size of the iMac version is considerably larger than that of the iPod version and it just isn't efficient to use these files with the iPod.
If there isn't a current solution for this problem, could this be possible via a third party plugin? and does any exist yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did restore on both classics and it worked...

I yea reset it but now I cannot use it because I forgot the apple ID I used for it

Is there a way to find my Apple ID Name if I can't remember it?
Yes. Visit My Apple ID and click Find your Apple ID. See Finding your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
On a computer look who is signed in by going to Settings>Store>View Account
On an iTunes purchase, right click on a purchase and then go to Summary pane. The purchaser will be listed.
In any event yo have to enter the Apple ID and password used to previously set up the iPod in order to regain use of the iPod
