Does resetting your phone to factory settings delete your photo streams

I want to sell my iPhone 3GS but have created photo streams to save my iPad will I loose them if I reset my iPhone 3GS to factory settings?

No, as they are stored in iCloud and not on your device.

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • I have recently sold my iphone and the new owner says he cannot use my phone without my apple id and password.i reset the phone to factory settings before i sent it.can he run up a bill using my id?cheers.

I have recently sold my iphone and the new owner says he needs my id and password to use it.i reset the phone to factory settings before i sold it but wanted to know if he could run up a bill even though i no longer have an account with my phone provider?

You did not follow the proper procedure when selling the phone before resetting it to factory settings. You must help the new owner deactivate the Activation Lock or else he will have the same issue over and over when he upgrades the software or sells it to someone else.

  • I have a restriction passcode that I have no idea what the passcode could be. I know that I need to reset the phone to factory settings but how do go about doing this without losing all of my contacts and other info, etc? (mainly contacts)

At some point, I don't even remember doing this it must have been so long ago, I set a restrictions passcode on my phone. This has become a problem now because I have so many apps that I do not ever use that take up so much space I can no longer take pictures or put more music on the device. I have read that I need to restore to factory settings but that once I do that I cannot restore to a backup because restrictions passcodes are saved in backups. Is there any way for me to restore my phone to factory settings and then get all of my contacts and perhaps as much other data back as I can? I have tried every passcode I can think of for the restrictions passcode (24 times! to the point that ever time I try and fail I cannot try again for an hour. To say the least, this is quite frustrating as is limits what i can do with my phone on a daily basis, whether it be music or taking pictures and videos etc. Can someone please help me solve this problem without losing minimal data? I have already backed the phone up to my computer as well as iCloud. Even the woman at the apple store told me I had to restore it to factory but was too busy to get further into it and I didn't have a genius bar appointment. If all else fails I can make an appointment and go in there. I just thought I may as well ask on here first to see if there was a way I could do it myself. Thanks for reading and hope you can help me!
    -Mike

You can't. Restoring new means everything is erased. If you have a backup made before creating a restriction code, then you can restore that backup, but none later.
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • I recently used iCloud to back up an iPhone 5S to the Cloud and then in iTunes reset the phone to factory settings. Where do I find the contents that were backed-up especially the photo's?

I recently used iCloud backup on my iPhone 5S and then restored the phone to factory settings in iTunes. The contents of the phone is "somewhere" in the Cloud but I don't know where to find it on my Mac Book Pro - accessing my iCloud account just shows all the devices that are backed-up but not where the contents of the phones are.
Specifically I am trying to locate photographs.
    Any help will be appreciated.

A backup to iCloud is not designed to be accessed or viewed -- it is designed only for use in doing a restore to the phone or iOS device. Following has instructions on how to do that http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977
iCloud Photo Library (beta) iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support does support storing photos on iCloud and accessing them from a web browser from your Mac (and likely in the near future from a new Photos app on your Mac) but that is something different than an iCloud backup.

  • Reset the phone to factory settings or wait???????

Hi.......Have a 3gs with a problem....since i upgraded to ios4 my gps wont work any more. What do you think...should i wait for the fix (4.1) or blow the phone clean and set it back to factory settings??

First, all readers should be aware that any issues whatsoever involving iPhone 4.0 software update, no matter which model iPhone you are using, all issues are backed by 90 days free tech/phone support.
Second, I had a problem wherein the iTunes could not back up the iPhone because of "unable to initiate session". I called and spoke with Apple tech and re-installed iTunes. When the problem still was not solved they suggested restoring the iPhone to the original settings. Because I had already had all of the information on my iMac, Apple tech walked me through the process and I restored settings. It worked perfectly, and the automatic sync put all of my photos back. It also restored all of my apps. Solution-restore to original settings, and be aware that any issues whatsoever involving iPhone 4.0 software update, no matter what iPhone you are using, all issues are backed by 90 days free phone support..

  • HT201317 I reset my phone how do I restore my photo stream

Help me fix this please I lost over 900 photos very precious to me

Photo stream only keeps photos for 30 days, even though they remain on your device (up to 1000 photos) until you delete them.  On photos added within the last 30 days will stream back to your device from photo stream.
Camera roll photos are included in your iCloud backup.  If the photos were in your camera roll when you last backed up, restoring the backup to your phone should recover them.

    Hello marie196,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You do not necessarily need to restore the device to factory settings, but rather sign out of the four services that utilize your Apple ID: iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and iTunes & App Stores. Once signed out, you can sign in with a new Apple ID. For more information, see the following article:
Using your Apple ID for Apple services
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895
Additional Information: You may encounter an error regarding a 90-day limit. For information on this, see the following article:
