Does running any Office prog. kill the overall speed of your computer?
It seems like whenever I run other UB apps concurrently, be it 10 programs or 1, the computer is SO fast and runs nicely. But once I open Word the whole computer goes into crutch mode, where everything seems to slow down. I check RAM, but it doesn't be seem to be fully utilized. What gives?
Check and see if your font book is set to load all the fonts you have.
I activated fewer fonts in font book and Word speeds up opening.
Separately, have you gotten the latest Office 2004 update?

Buy an external optical drive such as the Apple USB SuperDrive that is made specifically for that model.
Use the optical drive of your old MBP to clone the DVDs to USB flash drives, then install from the flash drives.
Connect both computers to your local network and then share the optical drive to install the software. -
airport stops detecting wi fi. it gives a message that some other computer is using the same IP address, change the IP address of your computer, how does one do that?
I am having the same issue too. It looks like many more people are having it as well. I called Apple Support a few times, but they use their standard naiive response: "we have never heard about this issue".
It is an issue of DHCP implementation on the Apple OS. My windows PCs and Printer are not having these issues.. -

What Encrytion does your Router/Modem use?
This might mean your Mac is set to a Static/Manual IP instead of using DHCP to request an IP, or another device is starting up with a Static IP & kicking your Mac off the Router.
If this is Wifi/Airport with little or no encryption,it could be somebody outside causing it.
How many things are connecting there? -

BrandonTough question that depends on several factors. First is how full was your old drive, the closer it comes to capacity the slower that makes your computer. As a general rule of thumb OS X should have a minimum of 10% free disk space to operate OK. Next is the RPM speed of the drive drives, you can buy hard disks that spin at 5,400, 7,200 & 10,000 RPM, the faster the RPM the quicker the input/output. Theoretically if you replace a 7,200 RPM drive with a 10,000 RPM drive that will speed up the input / output.
So if you are replacing a drive that is currently filled to 70% capacity that spins at 7,200 RPM with a larger capacity 7,200 RPM drive then no you probably won't notice any difference in performance. However if you are replacing a drive that is at 90% capacity that spins at 7,200 RPM with a higher capacity 10,000 RPM drive then yes you will probably see some performance increase.
Bottom line, not simple question to answer.

This problem has been occurring for a while now.
The Internet works on my iPad, iPod and even my parent's computers.
I am writing this from my iPad.

That's an odd address for such a conflict. IP addresses are normally allocated from the low end of the range, so a value such as 10.0.1.3 would be more likely.

In general, yes. Is your computer configured to obtain its IP address via DHCP or is it declared statically?
You might try this: Launch AirPort Utility, enter "manual setup" mode for your AirPort unit, select the "Advanced" pane, then click on the "Logs and Statistics" button. In the resulting window select the "DHCP Clients" tab. If the offending computer is using DHCP, you should see it there. If it's only identified by MAC address, you'll have to do a little research to determine which device has that MAC address.
In which case, that would make sense, as my AEBS is acting oddly at the moment. It crashes and requires regular restarting - I've posted regarding this, but no suggestions so far.
Could the two issues be related?

If you can connect via wifi, there is no file size limit.

Since installing Yosemite I am kicked out of the network on a regular basis. Originally this only happened when on Skype which is bloody annoying but now it happens all the time. Each time I receive the error message:

Is there anything I can to to fix this. For example I cannot find which other device is doing this.

PPIf it on DHCP its a bit odd that you get that message(that your router rejecting giving you the IP its giving you kind of thing or your mac seeing another machine( a ghost)-which would be consistent(after all it nearly that time of year) There is a long thread on here with several wifi resolve solutions including the SMC reset(which people had to do for Mavericks so its not really something new. A lot of people seems to have been able to reset things and get a stable wifi and everything settles down for them.

Airport Express: error code another device on the network is using your computer's IP address
I have set up the airport express now I get an error reading 'another device on the network is using your computer’s IP address 192.168.1.64. ' and I am unable to access the internet. Any suggestions?
The modem is fine, it's just not designed to work with a router without some re-configuration.
Connect the modem directly to your computer using an Ethernet cable
Pull up your browser and enter 192.168.1.254 into the address bar and press enter. That should pull up the modem configuration pages
Look for an Advanced tab on the left. You may need to enter the modem access code when you do this. It is on the bottom of the modem
Click the PPP Location Tab
Change this setting to "PPP is on the computer (or router)..... or, if you do not see this setting, there should be a setting for Bridge Mode.
Make your selection and click Save or similar and modem will restart with the new settings
Important....if you need to get back to the original modem settings again, you will need to first hold the reset button in on the back of the modem for 10 seconds, then let it restart. That will get it back to original factory settings if you need to get back to those settings.
With the AirPort Express powered up, hold in the reset button on the device for 10-12 seccnds and then release the reset button. Allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart at which time it will slowly blink amber
Connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the AirPort Express
Make sure you are logged onto the wireless signal for the AirPort Express. It provides a temporary network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. Log on to that network. There is no password.
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab/label located just under the row of icons to assign a name to the Express, a device password (write that down) and adjust Time Zone settings
Click the Wireless tab next to the Base Station tab
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Your choice
Check mark next to Allow network to be extended
Radio Mode = 802.11n 802.11b/g compatible
Channel = Automatic
Security = WPA2 Personal
Password = Your choice
Confirm Password
Click the Internet icon
Connect Using = PPPoE
User Name = probably your email address with your provider
Password = password with your provider
Verify Password
Service Name....Leave this completely blank
Connection = Always On
Disconnect if Idle = Never
Click Update at the lower right and allow 40-45 seconds to restart. You may see a message about "setup over WAN". Click to ignore.
As soon as you see the message in AirPort Utility that the settings have been stored...Close AirPort Utility.
Wait for a green light on the AirPort Express and then click the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the computer screen to look for the new network that you just named. Log on and enter the password.
You should have an Internet connection.
If not, power everything down. Start the modem first, then the Express, then your computers -

Apple tv is giving me a meesage that says... There is a billing problem with a previous purchase. Go to the iTunes Store on your computer and click Purchase History to resolve problem. I have gone to my purchase history but can't seem to fix this issue.
You can contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department at no charge using the form on their Support page (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find an "Email Us" button) and explain your problem to them.

ThanksHave you paired your Apple Tv with your iTunes account? That's how rentals and purchases are billed. If, however, you have already done that it is possible that there is a glitch in the system. I've had that happen occasionally and it usually goes away if I reset Apple Tv. On one occasion that I didn't work so I had to go to iTunes and deauthorize and then authorize this computer. Also, check to see if your Home Sharing is on (under File in iTunes). Hope that helps.

AirPort requires that your computer is running Windows 7 SP1 or newer, AirPort requires that your computer is running Windows 7 SP1 or newer
