Does safari on iphone 4 delete history itself?
On my ipod touch my history on safari stays there untill i delete it myself .. for months on end . Im wanting to know is this the same with safari on iphone 4 ? will it keep all your history unless you clear it yourself?

As far as I can tell on my device there is no pre-determined span of time that Safari will keep the back log of search history. So my answer is yes however I have changed devices in the past 3 months so I have no way to test the time span.

If you deleted your Safari history, you may not be able to restore using TM but give this a try...
Go to ~/Library/Safari
Look for the History.plist file.
Best to not use third party utlities such as CCleaner. They tend to do more harm than good. -

I can delete history in safari but when i tap the Google icon on home page, it doesn't work
I have Safari on the Home screen and it opens to Google. I never use that icon. There is also a separate Google icon. I want to delete all history and cookies from Google. I found instruction online for how to delete history from Safari which i did successfully. But when i touch the Google icon on Home screen, the history still is there. I just don't know what to do. There must be a way. btw, i don't know why i have both Safari and Google. I might have added Google when i got the iPod or perhaps somone else did. i'm not sure it was there when i bought it.
I really need to delete the history. There must be someone out there who can tell me... and I would truly appreciate getting a solution. Thanks loads!!!I retraced my steps to how i got the Google app:
App Store icon on Home Screen > Search, at bottom > entered Google
The first Google App on the screen appears:
Google logo small g in blue square: Google Search; Open (because it is already installed). Below that is a picture of the iPod with the usual Google Search screen. I have never inserted a link into a discussion group so i hope you can open this.

Hi my husband has iphone 5 and has so many phobos on his deleted history.they can either have 3 or 4 numbers in front of them.are they certain websites or are they down loaded picture messages.please help as i would like to know why so many are on his deleted history when he has only had the phone 5 months.i can send a sample of 1 with a number infront of it if that would help at all

Songs can be removed from your iPhone by tapping 'Songs,' then swiping the song, then tapping Delete.
Remove a song from iPhone. Tap Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

I have run into a peculiar problem with the Safari browser on mobile platforms (IPad, IPod, IPhone) which I hope I can find a solution for in this community.
I just launched a new website where I sell products with certain variations, for example please view this link: http://www.finerribbon.com/aegean-single-face-satin-ribbon.html
On this particular product, the product variants are supposed to work in such a way where:
If you select the value "1/8" from the "Choose Ribbon Width" field
THEN
The only options active and available to choose from in the "Choose Roll Size" field should be: 500 Yds, 20 Yds & Sample Swatch
Now, if we browse to the above link in Safari using a desktop or a laptop, there are no problems at all, but if we browse to the above link using an IPhone or an Ipad, then we have a problem where all the options are available regardless of the values chosen, basically the above functonality does not work.
I was told that there an issue with Safari in Iphones and Ipads where it does not recognize option disabled="disabled" tag properly, is this true? Can anyone advise me if there is a solution to this problem? I would sincerely apperciate it.

If restoring using your backup didn't work, you'll have to save as much of your data as you can (import your photos to your computer, sync your contacts and other data with iCloud, email things like Notes and Voice Memos to yourself, sync with iTunes to transfer all your purchases, etc.) and then restore it as new without using your backup.

To recover deleted data on an iPhone, users normally just perform an iPhone restore in iTunes or iCloud, restoring the device to how to was at the time of that backup.
If you don't have a backup to recover from, or you wish to retrieve your deleted call history for legal reasons or to save and refer to later, you can use smartphone recovery software to recover all deleted calls contained on your iPhone's database. -

If it was on your iPad when you last backed up then you can try restoring to that backup - you will need to restore the whole iPad, you can't just restore a single app. Otherwise no, you can't recover it

Delete history/cookies on closing Safari
I can't be certain, but I seem to remember there was a setting in Safari for deleting history and cookies upon closing the application automatically. I can't seem to find that setting. It appears to me that the only way to do that now is manually at the end of each session.
The problem I am having is that each time I open Safari I have all the previous tabs from previous use opening if I haven't manually deleted their history before closing Safari on the previous use.
I know this works in Firefox, which I use frequently. I am using Safari to record online streaming audio via Audio Hijack and I sometimes end up with multiple tabs open and am getting multiple audio sources. Audio Hijack has a timer that opens and closes Safari, but no control over the history that is created in Safari.
I would appreciate some help if anyone is so inclinded. Thank you.Old thread I know, but in regard to clearing cache and history on exit... that never has a good answer from what I have found. Since there is no way in the app or with any extension I can find to do this, the only method I see is lock down the files it writes to.
First, open Safari and clear the history, the quit.
Delete the contents of ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Webpage Previews
In terminal remove write permisons (chmod a-w) on these files:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Webpage Previews
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Caches*
~/Library/Safari/History.plist
Get info ~/Library/Safari/History.plist and check the box to make it locked.
Now Safari will show history while it's open, but can not write it out when you quit so it will not be saved, and the hundreds of megs of page preview caches will not be saved.
I haven't tested cookie blocking, but my assumption is you remove write and lock ~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing.binarycookies. -
I want to remove ''old History'' in the Location bar.
I am using Firefox 3.6.13.
"Clear recent history" does not remove the old History in the Location bar. And changing the setting to only show "History" does also not remove the old history.
Pressing "Delete" on single lines when opening the list by clicking the arrow to the right in the location bar, remove the entries temporary. But next time you type in the location bar, the same suggestions are there.See:

Entries in the location bar drop down list with a yellow (blue on Mac) star at the right end are bookmarks.<br />
You can remove such a bookmarked item that shows in the list if you open that url in a tab and click the yellow star in the location bar.<br />
This will open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and you can click the Remove button to remove the bookmark if you want to remove such a bookmarked entry. -
From time to time when I click a searched link the color of visited links does not change. It works fine after I delete history and cookies. Can I fix that. I am using windows XP. Thanks
Here's the error message I get.
Note the TC is connected to my Airport Extreme via ethernet and my iMac is also connected to the AX via ethernet so it's not a wifi issue.
I can see the TC in the finder so it's not 'gone' from the network either.
Also note that just then the TM system pref pane was claiming a backup error, citing my 'network password' and still refusing to backup. I waited 5 minutes and did some tidying of my office while I pondered this and then tried again and voila it worked ok.
